Описание

Blade of Acrimony is a Psychological Horror RPG made by me, Frostnoble, where you take control of Sora Loyalar and follow her on her downward spiral into insanity.

In a time long forgotten, a sinister sword falls from grace into the mortal realm, screaming for help for thousands of years. One day, a travesty occurs! A young woman of faith finds the blade lodged in the earth. The vile weapon speaks to Sora, tricking her into believing that he is her Lord, and that she must “save” the mortal world from sin by becoming the new Savior. She agrees and the journey starts.

Features:
-Classic turn-based combat where every choice could mean life or death

Really fun game, nice and dark with a really fun, challenging combat system. The gameplay is really solid, with a decent progression curve and there's only one move that becomes kinda redundant late game, the rest are all situationally really useful. It really encourages you to think about every move you make, and I really got engrossed in playing it. Boss fights feel really epic too, with really rad soundtrack!

Plot wise, I'd say it's pretty good overall. The initial leap from the protag being a harmless nun to a cold-blooded killer does require a bit of suspension of disbelief, but the way her character changes over the course of the game is really interesting to watch. There's a cool amount of lore and the characters are interesting to interact with.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this game. For the price you're paying, you're getting a fun, challenging, deliciously dark experience with a soundtrack that I would honestly pay to get.

(On that note, creator, if you were to put up the game's OST for sale on Steam or somewhere, I'd absolutely buy it.)

Hey people from Steam, Sea Raider here with a new review.

Today I have something special to review, a game from a member of the RPG Community instead of an old game, so let’s go.

Blade of Acrimony is a JRPG styled game with LOADS of symbolism and using delusion and insanity as a main subject. You play as Sora Loyalar, a nice Christian girl that by some coincidence found an evil sword that is actually a fallen angel reduced to a possessed sword.

The game itself takes a nice twist on the “remove all evil” plot and the Sword makes use of this; by making Sora think the sword God via curing her wounds and gifting her armor.

Your first encounter is the poor dog you have adopted (that would make Dio proud) because “God” keeps telling to Sora that the dog is a sinful soul. Sora after killing the poor dog, she’s then guided to her next target, and so you go on your crusade.

The gameplay is fantastic, the normal attack is standard but the way you use your movements is what leads you to victory, for example, blocking is ACTUALLY useful for once, it recovers you MP and significantly reduces the damage you take.
The powers are nice, multiple slashes, lightning strikes, life absorption; on top of that, you have a “tragedy” that only shows when you have full MP meter, and you get other cool powers from that, like multiple lightning bolts that stun all your enemies. Of course, the attack itself is crap since the sword it’s dull, so you’re practically bludgeoning your enemies and doing crap damage until you level up.

The level design is pretty good, the layout is nice, the town, the military base and everything else looks great, you don’t get confused because of the good level design, and it’s quite well constructed, plus, you get indicated on your obligations.

Talking about leveling up, you level up, not by EXP, but by consuming souls that level you one level, by doing this you get awesome things like more resistance, damage, powers and “tragedy” powers.

I had a solid experience by this game and I liked the characters and detailed graphics.

This game gets a 9/10.

That’s all; I don’t want to give spoilers or nothing, so I give this non-spoiler review.
Thanks and farewell.

Played a demo for this a while ago and for whatever reason it popped into my head yesterday. Curious to see it's progress I googled it and saw it was finished. So I bought it, beat it and here's what I thought of it.

The mechanics were pretty interesting. You cannot grind resources in this game so you have to defeat enemies with whatever you currently have, and most enemies are more powerful than you. Luckily your character has an arsenal of status effect moves to level the playing field. Blinding, paralyzing, silencing, and so forth. These moves cost MP which you regain by attacking, being attacked, and blocking. So the heart of the game is building up enough mp to use one of your game changing moves before getting killed. It's an interesting system with a lot of potential but a big problem is that blocking is the fastest and safest way of gaining MP. So you barely have to pay attention to what the enemy is doing since your always blocking. I beat the final boss by blocking and using wraith of lightening over and over; not great. I think it'd be more compelling if blocking didn't restore any MP, this would force the player to take more risks. Something to think about for your next game Frostnoble. Also maybe give the player the option to retry battles since some of them open with oneshot kills. I only needed to see Zander's cutscene once thank you very much.

As for the story I'd describe it as grimdark power fantasy that's maybe a little underdeveloped. Some parts needed to be cooked a little longer I think, like Alexander is not very convincing as god which makes Sora look like a complete fool, hard to sympathize. Sora generally feels underwritten which is disappointing since there's a lot of narrative potential here. And the world building is thematically all over the place. There's a lot of moments that make up for this though like the dream sequence and the final encounter with Jace and so forth and so on. I'd say the good outweighs the bad.

Anyways, two quality control issues I wanted to mention on my way out.

when Commander Kyson blows himself up there's a typo. "he drew his last breath...and them." I assume it's meant to read "and then."

During the time stop boss the game crashed because my download was missing the bgm "Disturbed - The Night." Not sure if something went wrong with my download or if this a problem with this version. I got around it by renaming a random mp3.

Overall not a bad experience and I'll be sure to play your next title Frostnoble. Good luck and Godspeed!

A game with some amazing ideas, interesting lore, and wonderful custom art held back by some poor design choices and execution. Attentive dev who is STILL trying to improve the weak points. Recommended.

In Blade of Acrimony, you play as Sora, a young woman who finds a cursed sword (which is actually a fallen angel being punished) in the forest. The sword convinces her that it is a physical representation of her God, and that all the world is full of sinners and it is her charge to make sure they get into heaven. How, you may ask? In the most literal sense: you need to kill the sinners to ‘save’ them. And on that, I love how when you attack it says ‘save’ instead of fight. Nice touch.

There is a lot I can say about the combat, but many negative aspects have already been addressed by the developer as I live-streamed it, and after the fact as we both discussed certain things that worked and did not. SO I will only mention that success is still tied to trial and error. The only decent tactic, even after the positive adjustments, is figuring out if you should be counter attacking, or muting, the enemy as soon as you have the resources to do so.

The game touches on some pretty heavy and dark themes, which DO make the player feel something.Like when you kill your best friend and get two souls for the deed. Yep. She was pregnant...but it isn’t always what I think the dev WANTS the player to feel. I felt mortified by some of the story, but it didn’t make me question my morals, or wrestle over what had just happened.

This leads us to my main issue with the story. It suffers by being the victim of convenience. Things happen just to happen, and ONLY to move the plot from point A to B, with no real character interactions going on. I mean, you pretty much KILL everyone you interact with. And whatever dialog before hand is either about revenge, trying to stop you, or cowering in fear. It makes for a flat story overall. Plus, there’s no real explanation for WHY Alex wants to wage war on god, or why Sora is suddenly so gungho on killing, even though she was a pacifist when this all began. These reasons are actually locked behind one of several endings that you can achieve playing the game. While I love mystery and intrigue as much as the next guy, I have issues with games that hide ALL their exposition and a majority of their story behind endings that are somewhat convoluted to get to, or don’t really give a clear resolution. The endings themselves vary wildly, and the player is given no indication which is the actual ‘cannon’ ending. So even after achieving all of them, you’re STILL left with unanswered questions and confusion...but not in a good way.

Also, just a note...while it is one of the bullet points on the steam page, I don’t really agree with calling this a psychological horror. Sure, there are horror elements, but the story lacks the gravity of psychological torment, especially since the main character kinda falls right into killing easily.

+Excellent, Custom Art
+Good Price Point
+Intriguing story
+Super Awesome Final Boss

=Hard to Tell Enemy Weaknesses
=Have to Eat Souls to Level
=Skill resources can accumulate rather slowly.
=Ending ‘extras’ are hidden behind artificial challenge increase
=Super Awesome Final Boss hidden behind certain ending conditions

-Battles can get frustrating, fast
-Enemy Health Pools are too large
-Waits Too Long for Character Motivation
-Story just...Happens

In the end, is it worth attempting to overthrow the Lord, or should you just accept your fate of being a sword for all eternity? Blade of Acrimony is a game made up of great ideas, with poor execution. It has a number of major flaws, but, at the same time, it also has a lot of heart. This is a dev who not only has made a TON of custom artwork for their game, but has incorporated an interesting world of lore as well. That said, large chunks of story and lore are obfuscated behind the multiple endings. So, in the end? I’m going to barely recommend it. I want to support this dev, as they are not only fixing the current game, but using what they are learning in their NEXT game. However, if you are less the forgiving type, it’s better to just pass on this one.

I love this game. I like games where the character is an anti-hero or straight out villain with challenging gameplay and great art, music, characters, and story.
This is a great game and I hope Frostnoble makes more like this one :D
I haven't finished the game and it's been 2 hours so it's not a short game at all which makes it much better than many of the super short games in this genre :)

The pace of the story could use some work, but overall the game was awesome. I loved the story despite a few cringy parts here and there. I felt like Luca Blight from Sukioden 2 when I was chopping up groups of well meaning heros.

I bought this game when it was on sale, but it isnt worth 10$, more like 5 or 3$.
