This is the developers of Think Inside the Box writing a cry for help.
Our beloved game character, an experienced doctor and farming enthusiast, Bedford went missing. He was last seen by a woozy cow at his farm (located in the lovely place of Bummertown), raking dead rats on his porch.
- The red circle marks the spot where Bedford was last seen. Ignore the upside-down bird, it’s not a glitch, only a photographic illusion.
This is what the cow had to say:
"Yeah I saw him, standing there in front of his hut raking something. When all of a sudden the usual glitch* occurred that pushed Bedford's rake out of his hands and into the sky. All I remember after that was Bedford's red face, his barrage of curses, and him walking into the woods."
*We, as the developers of the wonderful Bummertown, do not agree with said statement. There are no glitches in this town.
- The cow that saw it all (not the glitches though, as there are none).
We are searching for brave souls who are willing to go head first into what maybe a dangerous* journey.**
*In reality, it won’t actually impose any danger to the player at all.
**Technically, it’s more of a task than a journey.
If you think you have what it takes to find Bedford, then it’s likely you’ll have to do the following:
- Collect items and use them as needed.
- Talk to imbecilic characters.
- T̶a̶l̶k̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶e̶l̶l̶i̶g̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶r̶a̶c̶t̶e̶r̶s̶.̶
- Solve puzzles.
- Talk to animals.
- Start a bar fight.
- Search for treasure.
- Watch an old lady dance in a bikini.
As creators of Bummertown, we can confirm that it is a magnificent place, filled with joy and happy faces everywhere you look; it’s a digital heaven. You’ll most certainly enjoy your visit. Also, there are no glitches anywhere in Bummertown, everything works fine and dandy. Yup…
In order to find Bedford, you’ll also need some information regarding his appearance:
- Name: Dr. Bedford.
- Weight: 30 kB.
- Height: 28 px.
- Width: 15 px.
- Outline: 2 px.
- Eyes: Black.
- Hair: Balding, has some gray patches on the back of his head.
- Unique signs: Smells like a combination of dirty socks and expired meat.
-Some recent photos of Bedford.
If you manage to find him or have gathered any valuable information, please let us know in the comment section below.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Bought it on sale for like a dollar off, and like most of the reviews stated, it never really rose above 'something to do'. I didn't even really find any of the jokes funny, it was all just standard self-deprecation on the developer's part. There are lots of other, better games that you can be playing for $3.
i thought it was kinda funny
That was pretty cute, haha! Very enjoyed.
THE BEST GAME EVER XD I literally enjoyed the game, and giggled a lot while playing this.
Thanks a lot for devs' humor sense ahaha
I have no memory of playing this game at all, which either means someone took control over my brain or that it was really mediocre. Do with that information whatever you like.
Easy and fun Meta game. Oh and I didn't request a refund. It has been too long I'm sure.
this gave me the same effect as toy story and wreck-it ralph did and now i don't know what's real lmao. funny game though, lot of dumb jokes (that are still kinda funny), though i'm still confused about the cave area.
i also had a bit of an interesting moment with the starting achievement because i got this game in like december 2020 or january 2021 and finally started playing it like... on the 24th of october 2021. i literally had "open up this game and play it at some point" on my to-do list so that just makes the whole thing even funnier.
pretty fun game, dunno about its replayability yet but still an interesting game nonetheless. i'd call it the most sarcastic fourth-wall-breaking game to ever exist.
Just a fantastically funny game overall! I 100% recommend it, so give it a play. I promise it's worth the cost. :)
just didn't click..
puzzles too easy, and jokes aren't funny, and your actions are soooo limited.
just a bad interactive visual novel.
A short but fun little adventure game, with some fun logic puzzles and a few good chuckle moments.
The only *real* issue I have is that the dialogue needs another pass through the editorial process as grammar mistakes are all over (and no, those aren't part of the game's "aesthetic", as they get in the way of some of the actual jokes).
I wasted two hours of my life on this game. Don't be like me, skip it.
Seriously, Welcome To Bummertown has at a glance a bit of charm, but its a stew of snark and corn that has you continually run from one end to the other, solve bitty puzzles and frankly finish the game BORED. Even at a discount I cannot recommend you buy this one. Can't even say A for effort on it.
For how cheap this game is it's still gotta be one of my favorites. The shtick is hilarious (fourth-wall-breaking jokes are exactly my sense of humor so I guess it just clicked with me) and the puzzles are fun. I do wish the decision to add a female character option felt less like an afterthought (both the player character's "AAAAAHHHH" voiceover and the dialogue referencing the player character's gender seem to have been forgotten, which is almost more annoying than not having the option at all) but that's the only thing I don't like about it. Just super chill and goofy and I love it.
Crude graphics, but an intresting story, likable characters, and pretty decent puzzles. the final stage has loose controls but its plenty fun anyways.
That game isn't awesome but it's not terrible.
The humor might work on some people (it didn't work on me).
Graphics and story are alright. Pretty original.
There are multiple minigames. Minigames are really classic and fairly easy to beat.
Yeah, it was a fine game.
A love letter to old LucasArts point and click games. Loved it.
If I could give it one negative - there's way too much back and forth walking around. Fast travel would've been appreciated, but it's a $3 game, it is what it is.
Makes me sad for what could have been with My Neighbor Who Once Was a Doctor but Then Became a Farmer.
The game concept looked like something else that would've been right up my alley.
Devs shouldn't be so hard on themselves though, it seemed like too big of an endeavour for two guys with likely no free time.
This game is about a generic player who has to beat a generic storyline. You're brought to bummertown to complete some random quests. The game is quick, fairly easy, and slightly entertaining. It tries too hard to break the fourth wall most of the times, making it somewhat boring, although I can respect the attempt to be entertaining. Because of its focus on making the game seem bad, it really lacks some enjoyable play, and makes it more like a task. If you have to kill some time, sure get it. If you have a million games in your library and want something really good, maybe move on.
What a purely delightful game! From the technical point of view it's pretty much a few hours long chain of fetch quests with some minigames and puzzles here and there, but somehow the game's style makes it work perfectly. I'm sure the self-conscious humor doesn't amuse everyone, but I really loved vast majority of it; from the fighting game developers and glitching birds to the characters who straight up tell you not to talk to them until you've completed the previous quest. The minigames were also surprisingly entertaining and puzzles had really well balanced difficulty levels, as you do need to actually think what you are doing but not for so long that it would turn tedious. All in all I found the game absolutely worth my time - however it does kind of live or die based on if you like its style of humor or not. Fortunately there is a free demo available, so if you are not sure if the game is for you or not, you can always start by checking that out.
I wanted to try something so I purchased the game and actually had fun.
Its your typical fetch quest game but over done a little.
Some will dislike the game and others will like it.
The puzzles are a tad challenging but if you pay attention you will get through it.
The way Denzel puched George and Mack had me dying
非常异于同类游戏的解密向游戏,感觉自己就像上帝一样自己继续创造游戏的剧情,和NPC交流,还要从他们手里获得线索,去找到那个你需要达成的目标。创意值得肯定,只是——
It'll be better to have a Chinese translation!
Before playing the actual "game",reading through the instruction page on steam can add up to your experience in enjoying it somehow.
The game is a well-developed...mixed vegan stew, I guess. All puzzles and walking around and checking stuffs. There are NPCs telling you it sucks, and it truly sucks in a humor way after all to make the whole “piece” kind of a good game. Not for Bedford, as he was having a bad time there. I enjoyed it, and decided not to ask for refund to support the dev team a little bit, at least they can buy some soda(NO ALCOHOL) with a few dollars. Had a good time playing it and digging every dialogue and details. Thanks you guys, nice try in making a meta game.
Still, I don’t trust in games that separates the player and the protagonist too obviously, it is interesting to build up a character recognize the forth wall, but abusement of such settings can easily leads to uncomfortable feelings from players. But still as I said, nice try!
I really enjoyed this game and I'm not someone who typically likes adventure games. I thought the characters were funny and the gameplay was mostly interesting. When it wasn't, the game dev's were aware and made a joke of it.
I feel like it was a bit expensive for the amount of time it took to beat it. (2.5 hours) but I enjoyed it so money well spent anyway!
For full transparency, I refunded Welcome to Bummertown, but my final conclusion is that it is a fairly well made short experience with some great dark humor. I was actually really enamored with the artwork right off the bat, but the fetch-quest is too strong in this one. Again, it doesn't really do anything wrong, but the core gameplay is a bit bland. I really did enjoy the humor, although the dialogue gets a little long-winded at times.
Pros:
+Good price point
+The artwork is quite something; I love how it mixes crisp pixel art with photo realism
+The humor is great
Meh:
=The minigame puzzles such as the sokoban, logic, and sliding picture puzzles could just as soon be left out for me; it's just overly standard stuff
Cons:
-The whole thing is a series of fetch quests and it isn't well hidden
-I don't know, it never rose above 'mildly fun'
-I wanted it to go full dark like Pony Island, but I was 3/4ths of the way through the game and the weirdness you got out of the gate never escalated
-D-pad doesn't work on the controller unless you mess with bindings, and so that meant I had to use the keyboard for several of the puzzles (really, both the stick and d-pad should work to get the best controller support)
Sure, it's interesting enough to spend an afternoon with, but I think it could have gone a bit further and strayed from standard mechanics.
Cute little game. Short, but cute. Your typical fetch quest game, but cleverly done with some funny details thrown in the background to keep it from being too boring. Worth $5? Eh. But it was fun an enoyable while it lasted.
Will I play it again? Probably not, as there aren't multiple endings or achievments to unlock. Just a very straightline game that's hilariously aware that it sucks.
