1. Sadism. With jokes.
2. An addictive throwback to 1980s text adventure games.
3. A one-of-a-kind retro-styled comedy puzzler that pits your pitiful brain against brutal deathtraps in the pursuit of freedom.
4. An adventure with a deep hidden story you can only unlock through skill, patience and exploration.
5. The kind of thing you can send to your friends just to make them very, very angry.
6. The exact opposite of an open-world game.
7. Like Fortnite, but only in the sense that it’ll make you want to kill.
With over three-and-a-half hours of recorded content, plus profanity, comedy, body horror, puzzles and warped logic, this is the Dark Souls of text adventures, the BDSM of RPGs, it’d be a walking simulator, but only if you were walking through a minefield.
Level One has 60 minutes of specially mo-capped dialogue and performance, while levels 2, 3 and Darkest give you even more, and will bring you the true story of Darren. Your money goes into making the game bigger, louder and more dangerous!
The Dark Room is the videogame adaptation of the interactive stage show of the same name from comedian John Robertson. So play this, then, when the show comes to your town, gather with the other survivors. Just remember - YA DIE! YA DIE! YA DIE! YA DIE!
Pick up the game while it's in Early Access and help us create the full Dark Room experience!

the game is nice and simple. Plus you can play this game for hours getting different deaths.
A good laugh if you're alone and an even better laugh with friends, definitely is an enjoyable experience even if you have not seen the live show.
You awake to find yourself in a dark room! based on John "Robbotron" Robertson's stage show the dark room is a fun adventure game based on the text based adventure games of the early days of computing just with better graphics lol. i love this game and if you have ever seen or are a fan of the stage show then defo pick this up.
I'm so glad I found this game by total accident!
The humour is incredible, the play style is great, the motion capture and style of animation is somehow very mesmerizing to me. I love how even the simplest action that you don't do has big impact on how the game will play out
It took me a good amount of trial and error but I made it through.
Very addicting and I will recommend this to anyone who has patience or just wants a good time!
Good for a laugh, great atmosphere and writing with a very promising direction so far. However, the game is not very long in its current state and updates have become very scarce and there is little to no communication from the devs on any new progress. At full price of ten pounds I cannot recommend it as anything more than a proof of concept until it has more content outside of the same lines and routes from the live show.
A hilarious, charming, yet brutal puzzle game! I love the interaction with the Narrator, and all the funny ways there are to die! I will admit, there are three big flaws right now: 1) The game gets really repetitive (if you die and didn't reach a checkpoint, you start over from the beginning), 2) There are two achievements that are practically impossible to complete (apparently people HAVE gotten them, but it's less than 1% for each I believe), and 3) It's not fully finished story-wise. Regardless of these downfalls, though, I would still highly recommend this game! Good for an afternoon of fun, and then you come back every now and again to find new paths!
The game is currently in early access and as such the graphics need to be finished (though they could simply chuck them in the bin, its a text based game ;) ) and there are a number of bugs. It is however early access (version 0.11 atm)
That said. As a fan of The Dark Room in real life, this game is great and good for a chuckle. I'm just waiting for night to truly fall before continuing. I do however wish they could let John off the hook a bit more (or have a option for Late Night Dialogue ^_^)
Ah, now this game brings back memories.
Having had played the Youtube version of this game, naturally I was intrigued to try this out when I found out about it. And I wasn't disappointed.
So The Dark Room is a multiple-choice comedy/horror adventure game, with a very limited visual element to it. Sounds simple, right? Not so much. With so many ways to die and so many choices that loop back on each other, it's a labyrinth of bad decisions and pointless ventures. Finding the light switch isn't so much a challenge as finding it without dying in the process.
As far as games go, this one isn't so much serious and might frustrate you after a while... but for a quick bit of fun, it's definitely worth a try. And if you don't feel it's good enough a premise to pay money for, I recommend at least checking out the 2012 Youtube version (of which there seems to be a 2016 remake as well).
Excellent good fun and it’s always entertaining to get yelled at by budget Sephiroth
Accidentally activated hard mode twice A+ will play again
You awaken to find yourself in a review with Sephiroth's drunk cousin and YOU DIE, YOU DIE, YOU DIE! I really shouldn't have grabbed that gorillas balls but it was totally worth it. I am not sure what to say about this game. It is a great one for short bursts of entertainment. If you like really cheeky humor and being more frustraited then playing hardmode on a roguelike then this game is for you. Expect not to win the first time or the 50th.
Sometimes, something comes along. Something so different, so amazing, so hilarious that you are just blown away.
I purchased it based solely on the trailer and I was NOT disappointed.
It's like every Infocom game you played in the 80's but instead of a text response, someone is up in your face telling you what a stupid dickhead you really are.
This IS the genre for [current year].
Hopefully, next version we will be able to type/talk to the smart arse and get real time responses.
The future of gaming suddenly looks brighter again.
Buy this game. You won't be sorry.
Darren.
DARRENS! If you are indifferent on getting this game... DON'T BE! (unless you have a social life and have little time as boy this game sure does use up a lot of it) I will speak of no more, but good luck, escaping THE DARK ROOM and winning your flamboyent potato!

YOU AWAKE TO FIND YOURSELF IN A DARK ROOM!
The Dark Room is a game developed by and published by Stirfire alongside the help of The Fear Corporation. Having seen The Dark Room myself during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I just had to get this game!
I'm not going to spoil anything when it comes to the game as the story and gameplay is very story and choice defined heavy. However, the developers managed to bring an exact replica of the show into videogame form which is absolutely awesome
Some things which kinda bugged me which will hopefully be fixed during it's Early Access state is that sometimes the choices you make happen to repeat and you end up on a loose cycle, repeating the same stuff over and over and over again
There are a few glitches here and there and the subtitles are horribly coded sometimes coming in with a massive delay and not coming up when The Guardian speak
Another issues I'm faced with is this... the show is a one time thing, it's real, you're sitting in a literal dark room with a crazy Australian guy screaming and shouting, and although that translates very well into videogame form, certain parts don't and this game is horribly repetitive. Especially when you die and having to either restart from the nearest checkpoint or from the start and the game only has Level 1 for, imagine how insanely repetitive it will be when the full game is released
I'm just hoping that Stirfire Studios will add new gameplay mechanics to the mix that are probably never seen or will ever be done in the show's version
Overall, The Dark Room however pays a wonderful homage to the great classic Edinburgh Fringe Festival and everyone whose seen the show should definitely purchase it, if you've never seen The Dark Room, watch a version on YouTube then decide
YA DIE, YA DIE, YA DIE DARREN!
RECOMMENDED :)

Portable version of the live show, brilliant. I hope that eventually he ups the AI so that it knows how many times you've picked an option and can respond with something like "God's sake Darran, If I didn't know any better I'd think you didn't even want to play the game properly", but maybe I'm asking for too much, who can tell. GAME ON
I've seen the live show twice (and watched multiple youTube recordings) so I mostly got this as a fan, but I think it stands up as a game in it's own right. It's especially entertaining if you have multiple people around who you can have run through it as you see so many more paths (and deaths) that way. It had me laughing out loud repeatedly, which is pretty much exactly what I wanted out of it.
If you like absurdist humor you will probably really enjoy this. I love the novel concept and the level of polish is really impressive. So much animation! It didn't take me very long to finish level one but I'm looking forward to going back and try some of the other paths so I don't miss out on any of the hilarious jokes. Hopely they can put out level two soon.
The Dark Room is a hilarious all death game where you can act on impulse and die or try the logical tactical approach and still die! The game is hours of fun and a rollercoaster of emotions! I’ve seen the live show many times so to be able to play the video game version is amazing! I’ll be playing this game for a long time! Roll on Level 2 and 3!
The Dark Room, as a whole is amazing. The show, and the game. When I heard that an official game was being released, I was overjoyed! The game is somewhat buggy - Though, this is to be expected with a game that is in Early Access. I definitely recommend playing it.
I saw the live show of this game at The Fringe this year and have been waiting for this since, was so happy when I got the e-mail saying its out. This game was worth the wait.
Very entertining and intresting paths you can go down. Even if you get to the end of the first level make sure you've experienced every other option or you will be missing out. 100% worth the purchase I love it
Do you like games Darren?
Do you like being repeatedly killed Darren?
Do you think you can find the light switch?
If so, then czech your pockets, abandon hope, remeber your flamboyant potato, and prepare to enter THE DARK ROOM!
The game is obviously not complete yet, but what is done is hillarious and I'm sure what's coming will be even better. It may not be a long experience, but it's certainly a worthwhile one.
As excellent as the live show, with new content, new paths, and unexpected changes. Off to a marvelous start. Fantastic, bleak, absurdist humor, and a steal at this price. Well-rendered and well-produced, with solid graphics and excellent sound design and audio. Very polished for an Early Access Game and well worth a look.
For those familiar with the Dark Room live show - this is just what you'd expect; if you liked it live, you'll like the game.
For those unfamilar with the Dark Room - this is a game based on the widely known stage show of the same name (a live action text based adventure game), a cult favourite across the globe, created and performed by John Robertson. Everything's gone full circle now, and the simulacra has spawned a simulation.
I envy you newcomers, because you get to experience the Dark Room for the first time. And if you enjoy this, you can live with a sort of euphoric dread of knowing that somewhere out there, this is all being performed live, and if you ever have the chance, you can go see The Dark Room live onstage. How many games can boast that?
