its super chill, i use it to wind down on a stressful evening, the story line was surprisingly funny and having to remember certain customers orders actually made it feel more personal as you learn little details about each person you meet... ohhh and the drama at times its willldddd
Very cozy, if your looking for something, to just sit and relax with, this would be a good pick, I wish there were more interaction besides making coffee, and clicking through the chats. Very story rich, and I'd say it could be cheaper, I don't usually play visual novels, but it has an engaging story, so if your into that kinda thing, give it a go.
This game was a good casual option for outside of the other games I’ve played especially the coming from action-type games.
Very chill and relaxing game. It's got a VIBE, man. The stories are fun to hear and the metaphor that it portrays in contrast to our reality is certainly not subtle (but not forcibly beaten over the head). It's definitely like 90% visual novel / 10% running your coffee/tea shop so definitely go in with that expectation. It a shorter run time (about 4-5 hours) which is perfect for a cozy weekend game.
This game got me through a rough patch of loneliness and depression and I feel like I owed it to the game to get 100% achievement completion. Everything about it brings relaxing vibes and helps ground you in reality and come to peace with things. The music is a fitting cozy lofi track, each character has a heartfelt and emotional story to tell, and the pacing/gameplay allows you to enjoy the game stress free however you please. I also had a lot of fun discovering all the different drink combinations. For anyone looking for a good narrative, some life experiences to gain wisdom from, and a cozy atmospheric experience, this is a perfect game.
This is one of the coziest games I've ever played. Listening to patrons and serving drinks was so soothing for me that I had to look up games similar to this one after I finished playing. I'll probably revisit it in the future when I need a doze of peace and tranquillity. It brought me a tremendous amount of peace and I loved getting to know all the patrons and following up on their lives. The perfect game to play when you would like to take your mind off things and just relax and chill listening to the calming soundtrack and everyone's stories.
As much as it's called Coffee Talks, sadly, the game didn't speak to me much. The only thing it did was try and serve me a "depresso," which felt stale and lacking in depth of flavor. The characters are well-designed and appealing, as is most of the game's art. However, when it comes down to actual gameplay or story, the game is subpar.
The game has its aesthetics down visually and musically, though the music is such generic coffee house music that it never really stands out. It fits the vibe I felt they were going for and thus performs its role, I guess.
Overall, this game isn't very long and can't muster up anything of greater interest or connect you with its characters within that time. As much as it pretends some of them are your regular customers, who you are already well-acquainted with, it falls short.
I'd pass on this game and recommend trying out VA-11 HALL-A instead, as it is similar in concept but far better in execution.
was feeling pretty rough the other day and playing this short game helped me calm down
i love aqua
wish the steam achievements werent bugged though
I agree with some here that the game is incredibly boring. You barely interact, and the interaction you get to make is frustrating and unrewarding. The Latte art game-play element is so poorly designed and hard to control, and characters do not react to it or even give any feedback whether you did it or not- not even a gallery to save your creations, simply a meaningless game-play element, why even have it? I've been waiting so long for something to happen in the game or in the story, but it gives me nothing. It's built on boring stereotypes and the political statements they are trying to make are so bland and old, all it's saying is prejudice = bad... Come on!
I loved the story, characters, expressions, animations, and sounds. It was great even to replay :)
Welp, that was underwhelming to say the least. I got this game with perhaps (too) high hopes - ever since playing Strange Horticulture I've been looking for games in a vaguely similar vein and this one got mentioned on the interwebs a lot + has so many positive reviews, so when it was at a half price sale, I thought to myself - I might as well try.
Well, reader, I did not think it was worth it. The play time I currently have is ca. 4 hours, at least some of which will have been from trying to gain some achievements outside of the normal gameplay time, which I'd estimate to be maybe 3, 3.5 hours.
So it is a short game, a very short game in fact. And not only is it short, I did become bored enough each time that the 4 hours were collated across 3-4 different game play sessions?
Having very linear + predictable stories, with very little ability to change anything (as in the only choice you can make is whether to serve someone the drink they requested or something else) and absolutely loveless writing (which honestly, is the thing that could've knocked this out of the park, but instead rammed it further into the ground, because the writing was poor. Short sentences, simple grammar, no differences in character voices, still full of stereotypes, but not in the way they wanted to draw attention to, I don't think..? - if it wasn't written in English, maybe this is at its root a translation issue, rather than the entire writing, but in English the experience remains poor).
Coffee making can be frustrating, and it is far less of a puzzle aspect than I would like (or that I guessed it might be, based on what others said). It also seems to have rather less of an effect on story telling, than would make it interesting, because there's barely any narrative...
tl;dr
: if you enjoy short, on the nose stories that are cozy and uplifting with at best middling writing and playing around with coffee/tea/flavour combinations, this might be the game for you. If you enjoy more or less mindlessly producing these variations, again very great, chill, game for that.So far, it's really not been the game for me, unfortunately, and that's why it is getting a thumb down for the moment.
chill game but i might not play it without voice over mod
This game goes so much deeper than it seems on the outside. You just make coffee and talk right? Well YEAH, but your responses to your customers basically decide on what everyone’s outcomes are! Highly recommend this game. It’s super duper chill to play with the Lofi beats in the background. It’s crazy how just serving the right or wrong coffee order can impact someone’s life in this game.
All the content in it makes me feel very comfortable while playing it. The story is very good, I really like it.
I'm very late to the table on Coffee Talk. It's been a heavy indie hitter to the cozy community for awhile now, but due to ADHD choice paralysis, it has taken me a loooong time to download it and start.
So glad I did!
It's one of those bartender/barista story games. You listen to your customers talk about their lives and brew them drinks they ask for or describe. Similar games I've played to this include Vallhalla, Tavern Talk, Hookah Haze, Red String... I enjoy these games.
Out of those games, Coffee Talk excels at writing diverse characters. I loved the urban fantasy settings, which mirrors our own society and its issues. Each character was beautifully designed and I found myself wanting them to be successful-- whether that's a romantic relationship, their work, or their family life.
I particularly enjoyed Hyde and Aqua. Wish we'd seen more of Hyde. I'm a sucker for dry humored vampires.
As with all these type of games, there's a drink making mechanic.
It was fun to mix and match and play with the different options, though I think Vallhalla and Hookah Haze have this one beat on asmr sounds and satisfying brew mechanics. The collecting fiend in me did enjoy acquiring all the types of drinks in my little brew app.
We shan't speak of the latte art. I failed. Glad the game doesn't punish you. Art being subjective notwithstanding.
The whole game is a vibe!
I'll definitely be picking up the sequel when it goes on sale.
I loved reading about what a modern world would be like with paranormal coffee drinkers. The casual conversations and everyday problems of living together in a big city was so much fun.
Coffee Talk is a comforting, compelling, and cozy experience with vibey art design and a beautiful lo-fi soundtrack. I enjoyed everything about this game (except for the spelling and grammatical errors which were far too frequent for a visual novel). Although the narrative includes less-than-original themes, the ending reveals a surprisingly meta concept. I recommend this game to players seeking a casually immersive experience that pairs well with a café latte.
Beautiful Story, can't wait to dive into Episode 2
8/10
Would have been 9/10 for me if I would not need to grind Achievements in Endless Mode for Achievement completion. So I stick to Story Mode so far, but what a great expereince.
We tried this as it seemed like a nice cozy / chill game to play on the sofa in the evening. The vibe looked very promising but we were expecting interesting stories and unfortunately the content was just incredibly boring. It's mostly just mundane dialogue between coffee shop patrons about their daily lives. If that's your cup of tea (or coffee) then you might like this game, but I suspect you could hear more interesting stories just by sitting in a real coffee shop and listening to small talk.
There's also no gameplay other than selecting three ingredients to make the cup of coffee you're asked for, it's purely dialogue-driven.
We read for about 30 minutes or so, progressively skimming as it became obvious it wasn't going to get more interesting, and then gave up and got a refund.
Bought and started Coffee Talk on a whim after hearing good word of mouth about the series and being very intrigued by Coffee Talk Tokyo.
For me, it certainly was worth the hype! This made for a very charming couple of evenings as I went through this delightful anthology of modern fantasy short stories: the characters were charming, the writing compelling, the lo-fi music soothing and the art style chic and retro.
If you're a casual gamer, you're in for a solid 2 to 5 hour experience, depending on how fast you read. If you wanna 100 percent the game , it's olly a little bit more time than that to do so. Either way, the cost of entry both in time and in money is low, so I can highly recommend this experience!
Coffee Talk is an enjoyable visual novel with good art and objectively lovable characters. The main story took me about four hours to complete and was decent, though not quite to my taste.
The only real criticisms I have are about the lack of any choice (which isn't a bad thing for everyone) and the not-so-subtle discussions about modern problems, such as racism and discrimination. The direct nature of the dialogue could be needed for the people who do their best to ignore these societal issues.
I've only completed the storey once as it did not hold enough interest for me to go through a second time. I recommend this title to enjoyers of stories and visual novels with minimal gameplay.
A cozy game that requires little braincell usage and perfect for unwinding.
Coffee Talk is pretty decent overall. The art style and music is a wonderful fit for the atmosphere the game tries to provide and I do not hate the world Coffee Talk is trying to build. While the concept of fantasy in the context of realism is not a new one, the game at its core is a visual novel. Unfortunately, as a visual novel, the writing of the game is its main vehicle for exposition as well as its biggest failure. Dialogue between characters is awkward and lack distinction. It sounds as if a single voice is speaking through different masks which is not desirable especially for a game that promises variety in its characters. And if that isn't bad enough, there are so many weird and frankly, unacceptable grammatical errors. So yeah. Good idea, but it requires refinement.
3.5/10
cute game. sometimes customers order something with a name that i have never heard of, that's a little frustrating but then i just google. worth the money i'd say
Like the other reviews say, it's a pretty awesome game. Heard so many good things about this game for so long, I decided to try it when it went on sale. Very comfy game, nice to play on a rainy night at home.
Only cons about the game I would say is 1. some dialogue is just a teeeny bit cringey, and 2. the game is very short :(
I bought it on sale so I think the price is pretty fair for the gameplay (main storyline).
This game feels like a haven for workaholics. After a long day, it’s the perfect escape, letting you dive into a storyline that unfolds with a relaxing pace. The ambiance is unique—almost like unwinding in a calm, late-night café setting. I nearly fell asleep from how soothing it was! Before I knew it, I had completed the game with 100% achievements—something that’s rare for me. Indie games like this really have their own audience, and they serve it well. I’d highly recommend it for anyone exhausted by the usual high-energy games out there. Always here to support our local game industry—keep it up! And since this game has a sequel, I’ll definitely be playing Episode 2 sometime soon.
The game is pretty good so far. It's very relaxing. Love the lofi music and chill vibes. very cozy. I highly recommend it if you want a game to help unwind after a stressful day.
LOVED this game!! Really interesting characters and stories with a cute twist you can fish for at the end. Loved the mini game as well and I can't wait to play the second one!
i love playing this game after a long day especially to just chill and to relax to. the background music is also lovely so yes would recommend.
it's actually so cute and lovely to play every once in a while; the only thing i'd wish for is to be able to quit the level before reading the next day's newspaper but it's a simple concept and the stories are quite fun
Bought it on the ps4, played the entire thing, bought the second game there instantly when it came out, got my pc and then bought the game again. This is one of the best storydriven games I've ever played, and it's not for everyone, with very little gameplay aside from just passing on dialogue and making drinks. But for those who it is for, it is amazing, if you seem like the type that would enjoy a game with nice characters and a nice story, then go for it!
I have taken an interest in visual novels lately and this one was pretty good.
I think it definitely had potential to be fleshed out in it's worldbuilding but on some level I respect the decision to sort of sprinkle it in
The writing is VERY on the nose, this is not a story with a lot of subtext. The allegories are obvious, the themes are very clear, etc etc. Know that going in. I think the characters kind of lack "unique voices" I wish they had more diverse styles of dialect and slang and such. They DO have them, I just think it could be... more.
Ending feels a little abrupt, but it's more satisfying if you go for the God of Caffeine achievo
The characters are very likable, my personal favorite is Aqua.
Art is good, and there is a lot of aux media, like the comics and Freya's short stories. I liked those parts a lot
light recommend
this game is a lovely relaxing visual novel i would highly recommend, it does have some commentary on things like discrimination and family relations but its shown in such a way that its not polarising or takes away from peacefully managing a cafe, i spent the time to 100% the achievements in this game because i enjoyed it but its not required at any point to actively seek out secrets or achievements to enjoy it, also i would recommend reading the newspaper before the start of the day and read the stuff on your phone as they diegetically add to the experience without encroaching on the regular story telling told through your interactions with your customers
I could not reccomend this game more it was a cozy respite in between horror games for me off to go play the next one
I would like to take a minute to express my appreciation to Toge Productions for making this game. It's excellent work from people who can actually do proper writing, and doesn't go unheard in the windy city.
☕
A cozy point and click pixel game. The character stories were touching and complex, mirroring the real world in its good and ugly. I adored the autumn café atmosphere, that mixed with making coffee and meeting these characters was just so lovely.
I also found the surprise in the end, taking us into deeper lore about the MC, a cool twist that kept me thinking about it for weeks after.
Achievement Completion: 100%
Coffee Talk is a visual novel game following the story of several characters as you stand behind a counter and work as a barista. Whether it's the people or the sweet aroma of a fresh brew that brings these characters together, much like the many drinks you'll make things can turn out bitter or sweet and it's up to you find out where these roads will end up as they twist and turn.
The gameplay of Coffee Talk is really just my cup of tea- er, coffee if that's more to your taste; Calm atmosphere all around, great music choices and well written characters that really do feel alive and unique. In my opinion there's nothing more satisfying than seeing things work out for people or being able to assist in offering any advice that could be potentially beneficial so this was a game that I could both let my brain and heart relax.
Sit back, grab a cup of your favorite brew and enjoy what this game has to offer.
one of the most chill games i know. Just serving coffee ( also tea) and listening to the customers' lives. I should really become a barista in one life.
Coffee Talk deserves a soft recommendation from me. It has an engaging style that works most of the time, but I cannot help but feel that some of the writing is so "on the nose" that it detracts from the subtle moments that do mostly work. I think when you write social commentary it's always better to have a "show, don't tell" sort of approach. Coffee Talk likes to, well, talk to you about things. Again, as a simple slice-of-life piece that's peppered with a little metacommentary, it sometimes works. However, there were other times where I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
Loved this game and I loved the attention to warm beverages from other countries especially south east asian ones that usually don't get represented. But these are places with big tea cultures too! Excellent vibe and a fun direction with the plot at once you get the true ending :)
honestly this was so much fun to play on a late rainy night, the game itself is laid-back and overall a pretty good story game. i highly recommend you guys to download the VO Mod on the workshop since it greatly enhance the overall experience of the game itself. 10/10
calm and chill but a great storyline. loved it
The general themes and aesthetics of this game are really nice, I like the premise of making coffee and hearing people's stories. However, the story feels weak at times, boring even. I was rather disappointed in the queer baiting that happened. They include characters with obvious romances but the only love story's that happen are the hetero ones, and the story's revolving around queer relationships are not touched on. They were too afraid it seems to have even mentioned the queer relationships that were alluded to. The only character in the story that was of other gender was made an alien who didn't understand how gender functioned as a role at all, which made it all feel very numb to me. Disappointing to say the least.
If you're looking to read cozy stories, this is your game! Love the coffee mechanics, and the characters are relatable and rootable-would totally recommend to anyone who just wants to chill and listen to people talk about their lives:)
This is such a good game. I would highly recommend it if you need a chill and cozy game to relax and destress with.

its very wholesome and chill game...
the greatest game ive found so far for relaxing. i make coffee, and practice my language skills. characters are unique, weird, and well-designed. i also really like the phone format!
everything in the aesthetic of this game works.
Honestly.. I had great time playing this in my bed, on a steamdeck, being cozy and such. I love all the characters, they feel human. (funnily enough, most of them aren't.) Interesting stories and you can definitely tell how much love was put into this game.
I'm gonna take a break for a while, but I'll definitely come back to finish the game 100% and learn more. Cheers!
I honestly love everything about this game! It's just so unique and all of the drinks are really creative. It's also calming in a way with it's lo-fi music and just calm style. the game is just good all around, so go play it! :)
Kinda disappointed. Thought this would be right up my alley and it probably would've been but the writing was more juvenile than I expected. Really gave "video game writing" as in kinda forced and not really natural. On top of that, moralistic and heavy-handed in a way that gave "this is for a very specific audience whose world-view needs to stay cozy and innocent". Itty-bitty babies that need to be protected. Which is odd considering the mature conversations clearly intended for an adult audience. It should be of no surprise then that my favourite character was Hyde. Another thing that kinda sucked was that I thought this would be more of a barista simulator than it actually was. I thought these conversations would happen in between or threaded through a constant stream of bustling customers. And that the drinks would effect the environment more than they actually did. So the combination of the unpleasant writing and the fact that this isn't a barista sim made this basically a visual novel with a really tedious time travel loop.
Actually upon second thought, I'm really disappointed. Especially since none of this improves with the second game (thought I'd get it to give it chance, as I tend to do with indies). Would rate 2 out of 5.
NOTE: The game entirely relies on reading so half my gripes would be fixed if the writers sorted out the juxtaposition in tone. Why are we having adult conversations in tones written for children, and why are we telling adults (the intended audience for the game, I presume, considering the subject matter of some of these conversations) what to think in a game that's supposed to be "deep" and "philosophical". There's no abstraction. Every character is a mouth piece for the same message and there's no real room to think. (An even worse problem in the second game.)
