Good strategy game with ability to win on either side. Tracks historical scenario well and you realize how closely run WW2 weally was,,,
Good game but if the game could be improved I would add different bot difficulties from the weakest to the strongest than the current one. Because after playing several games I am stronger than the bot and it is too easy to win the game. It would be a better game if there were bot levels that we could choose.
A classic! A little different from the board game but worth learning the differences.
Played this game as boardgame for years.
Glad to see there is an online version
I very much enjoy this product. The online version mimics the board game which I played growing up in the late 1980s and early 1990s. However, the game needs to have special weapons development. There were 6 of them (super subs, long range bombers, etc.) and added a further dimension to game play. Moreover, it is adds a sense of realism as technology develops over the course of time.
Unless I'm mistaken, this does not exist in the current state? Is there an option to add this in, either for free or a payment?
A good game for learning strategy and operational art (i. e., operational art is a way of making a given strategy work better). There is no time pressure, so you can take your time with the moves. if you played four or five games as a kid, you can get hundreds of games playing online. Standard of play these days is pretty high, it will take some work to get to "gold" level. Similar to chess as a game that has a lot of possibilities and takes some real knowledge to play well.
Overall gameplay follows the traditional A&A board game. Scenario is slightly changed in that it starts in Spring 1942 (instead of 1941), number of units and placement of units has changed. This version does introduce new units: cruiser, destroyer, artillery. Some special rules around transports too. This version also introduces several new countries (IPC regions), providing more definition for Europe, Asia, and Americas. Enjoy!
Unfortunately, there are no ways to adjust the game.
The original PC game was much better than this one and were it updated I would much prefer it to this.
Why didn't the designers add in mod options like the original?
Very fun game. All the updates have made this so similar to the board game that we stopped playing the board game entirely.
Great game because no one will play OTB with me anymore after I brought a real samurai sword to my last game
I've seen dice rolling programs that cheat to win, but this piece of garbage game takes the cake. The list of things wrong with this game would be a long one.
Pretty close to the original board game, and easy to use UI. AI isn't very smart, but I'm looking forward to playing PVP.
Great game but the computer allies suck and I lose every time becuase of them
Great strategy game. Variance of play leads to always having to change your game plan.
Have you ever played a game that makes you sooooo mad that you want to break your controller? Well, this is one of those games. This game is SO rigged that you will quickly feel like the game hates you, the developers hate you, your mom hates you, and even your dog hates you now. This game is one of the most frustrating games I have ever played in my life. I would not recommend this game to anyone with behavioral disabilities, there is a good chance something will get broke. I remember playing the board game when I was young, and this game is nothing like the real thing. You will quickly realize the dice favor one player or the other. The game is also so broken that it won't even let you "kick" inactive players. Since the dice are the main factor too the game, playing against rigged dice will nearly make you loose your sanity.
Tried it for 20ish minutes, not worth the money. The UI is just bulky and really cumbersom compared to other alternatives.
Hoped it would be a viable alternative to the free options but it just isnt.
very fun i made 68 infantry and dominated the globe as germany
great game. no chat feature tho. also, should allowyou to move back amove during your turn.
There's no research. They add the extra units of cruisers and artillery but no Italy or China. Can't recommend this when the free version is better. https://triplea-game.org/
OK here goes, like the board game yes. Clunky to play and AI with game sucks. Die rolls do suck and the AI takes too long to make its turn. I think its the programming that is clunky.
However if you are just looking for something to take your time and mindless fun it beats solitaire. So I do recommend it.
Rules are different, took some getting used to. Too many steps to make each move but I like having artillery and cruisers and destroyers. Can't figure out how to save my game.
i love this game- sham you cannot discuss it with other though. Tactics are interesting- some times i rush things too much, but it is always a learning curve.
Why the game is not good and why the game is good (Facts and my personnel opinion all way below)
{spoiler alert - my decision on the last paragraph}
No - The reason why is below -
1. ONLINE is an issue nobody actually plays online like nobody at all it's dead online now some people will play online but they never make there moves in 24 hours they just forget so ONLINE is worthless if you want try play online
2. The game itself - The game is great but the issue is you won't be playing a lot a games because as I said Online not great and playing with friends on just 1 computer is kind of crazy so you won't be playing that much games a lot for sure.
Why the game is good in some ways -
1. The graphics - The graphics are good like if someone was going to stream this then they have a great showdown on there screen and the game graphics are cool as well but kind of the same to the tablet but little better with new features and easy controls.
2. Price & instructions - the price is great believe me paying a $60 board of Axis & Allies isn't that great compare to the screen version I would love to use this than place the pieces that take forever to do and the rules are ridiculous to read compare just find the game your way on the screen so in that case that's a green light for me.
What would be my opinion on this game!? | Is it a yes or no?! |
This game is a great strategy board game but would I buy it on a Computer? I say NO I would not want use this on a PC since no-one plays online and playing with friends always passing the computer to each other one by one wouldn't be the way to go.
I think if you would want this game I would recommend an IPad instead and the reason why is because it is only $10 dollars and if you ever wanted to play with friends you could just pass the IPad to each other than paying $20 but If you don't have an IPad but your friends let's say have computers and have this game then it wouldn't hurt to just buy this game but this game is only good for friends.
Last but not least my friends but if you want have this game on a screen or device of some sort I just prefer it to not be on a computer just not that worth it but if you want this on a screen I just prefer an IPad instead since it's less expensive and you could pass the device around and stuff to your family or friends this will be a better option so hope you enjoy this review and I tell you if you want on a PC either way I don't think it would hurt to buy it but your choice your decision have fun with this game CYA!
love the faithful adaptation of the game and enjoy the high level of competition great work everybody
if you buy right you will have chance to win Both sides have win potential the Axis needs a short game the Allies win the long ones. Rolling seems to favour the Axis slightly. We always play the second option vs the out of the box version because it is truer to reality
I am a Triple A Axis & Allies player and I have never really been interested in this application, I am also a board game player and I can tell Axis & Allies fans that this game has all the characteristics to be able to search for a development in our game, it is quite complete, it could clearly be improved like any game, because I think the anniversary version would be much better than this one because there would be more complexity and balance at the same time, but I don't think there would be a problem for it to be incorporated in the future, this application should be highly recommended and I do not share the negative criteria because it is evident that they are not Axis & Allies players. Thanks for the work and keep improving.
Nothing like the game. You cannot designate your hit but the computer can. You do not even get the chance to roll the dice during any combat you did not initiate. Even when you have the sea bombardment you are not allowed to use it. Steam is doing a terrible job with old boardgames.
I like playing this game, I play against the AI and you have to out think the computer's strategy because the dice rolls more in it's favor, I haven't tried against people online, maybe someday I'll give that a try, just not sure I want to commit to that type of situation. Thank You for creating this old time favorite!
Does a good job at adapting the board game into an online experience.
My main criticism would be how jumbled the screen gets when moving troops. You may accidentally forget your land troops when trying to invade America and entirely lose the battle. There's certainly some visual elements that need tweaking to make the experience better.
This version of Axis and Allies is a great digital adaptation of the board game. The rule set has been faithfully translated and offers a very streamlined way to play the game. Visible dice rolling to resolve combat, increased visibility as you zoom in and out of the map and the ability to review previous turns via the log all combine to offer an excellent quality of play. Managing the unit selection for combat takes a little getting used to so I recommend playing a couple turns solo to get a feel for the particulars of the interface before diving into a battle with your friends. The shining feature of the game is online asynchronous play which allows you to experience the game in a very convenient, multiplayer format.
Awesome WW2 war game! Heavy emphasis on strategy and outlaying your opponent. While luck plays a role, it isn't so heavy as to outweigh careful thinking and planning.
very addictive game, lot of strategy invovled, but luck too. Although the game is good, I would say the developer doesn't seem to care to make many critical fixes or updates. For example 1/ In Windows on certain machines, there is a problem of the map going completely black and having to restart the game that costs players several minutes of their time. Despite 100s of users flagging the issue, for over 2 years there is still no fix. Fortunatly I moved to Mac where this is not an issue. 2/ On Mac, they still don't have an ARM native version which can drastically increase performance. Given it's been over 4 years since Apple moved to ARM you would think the developer would offer that, but yet there is only x86 version available
It would be great to see axis and allies made by a professional gaming developer one day. This will have to do in the mean time.
Great graphics, but way too much computer control of the game play. It's just missing specific levels of interaction needed when playing a board style of game. Everything these days is about the look and not enough about the play. Love the board game but not impressed with the computer version.
Great Fun, ASynch is fun also as you can do your move and come back a day later for the next one. Never had it crash.
A great, if simplified, game for the whole world of WW2. Good job by Beamdog making it electronic, with a reasonably smart AI.
i think its something for someone who wants study WW2 but in a more fun way but I have fun playing it both online and first handed
Don't let the dice rolls ruin your day and have fun! lol
A great adaptation of Avalon Hill's classic! Great stuff, excellent gameplay, really easy to learn (literally learned the UI in one sit). Great adapatation to the online space as well!
Sadly, no customization, mod support, etc. to make your own setup. It's just the original ruleset for second edition and Larry Harris' ruleset for hardcore tournament. I'm not A&A competitive player, but that's neat, as well as the ranked-only multiplayer.
Worth every penny, especially if you get it on sale!
Axis and Allies is IMO the best board game of all time. This is a great rendition of it.
A perfect recreation of the board game.
Honestly its awful. Ive never had so much BS in a game since XCOM. Enjoy the 95% chance to hit and missing 10 in a row. the mechanics are somehow more unbalanced than the board game version. honestly wasted so much time and it is all my fault because how could I expect anything else from a game of axis and allies. Fuck this game.
way to many cheaters, they can purchase more units than their budget
Great game, played it a TON as a kid.
It's pretty good. The fact that you can't move between non-combat moves and mobilization is pretty annoying (makes it easy to make mistakes that you can't undo) but other than that it's a solid digital adaptation.
great strategy game classic
its ok. I miss the super powers tho.
A wonderful way to play my favorite board game with my buddies from hundreds of miles away
This game is very good for beginner war gamers.
Can be glitchy, especially when attempting to do a bombing run, and the dice can skew, but otherwise a good game overall
