Axis and allies 1942 online is such a superior game compared to other world war two games. It is simplistic but also requires a lot of strategy. I really do recommend this beloved game
Perfect updated version of the original boards game, easy to sync up and play with your friends at your leisure or taking your turns all at once. worth the buy.
Excellent rendition of the board game. Loads of fun competing against people online, including a ranked player competition for those that choose to partake. Highly recommend if you enjoyed the board game.
Can't get all the controls to work. Multiple plance wont got to battle territory. Ruins a large portion of the game. Liked playing the game on my IPad, but now it won't load afer some updates 3 months ago.
Please fix the problems.
A faithful recreation of the physical board game of the same name. A.I. is pretty competent as well. Not a push over. If you're a fan of board wargames and A&A, then get this. You won't be disappointed.
Easy to learn, difficult to master. Loads of strategic depth.
It has its flaws and is essentially an unfinished game. But it scratches the axis and allies itch, and is genuinely a fun game to play despite the changes. If you are a diehard global 40 player, this might not be your thing, but if you can get past the missing mechanics, this game can be very rewarding.
It's alright but still need more features like bidding sides/extra units and able to use other units in transports. Would be nice if there were: theatre operations like (Guadalcanal, Stalingrad, battle of the bulge, normandy and north africa). Also 1941 (basic), 1942 (anniversary edition) and global 1940 (europe/pacific).
After purchasing units you have to click the (end phase) button to progress to combat. Well the (end phase) button does not work now, it worked the first time I played but it won't now. I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. Same problem. Makes no sense, and there is no recent patch.
Fun and helps you learn the boardgame rules because the computer prohibits illegal moves. Would like Harder difficulties and the ability to change the players midgame. I'd like to make all of the turn 1 moves myself and then choose a side or a country and let the computer play the remaining turns. Also, Britain and America always do the same tactics in the Pacific. Why doesn't Britain attack sea zone 37? Why does America always abandon the Pacific and do a KGF? Why doesn't the game do a KJF? I think the Russian and Germany AI play very well, the Britain AI plays ok, the America AI plays Atlantic well but Pacific poorly and the Japan AI is the worst player of all. I had a game where I played Germany and I lost in turn 16 because Japan AI did nothing! It didn't take India so I had to take India. It built a fleet but just parked it in the sea of Japan. It didn't attempt to take Hawaii, Australia or anything.
Game was linked to an old email with no way to fix it.
Seems the probabilities are off.
Am I sure? No. Does it seem they are off? Yeah.
Why bother sorting it out? Get a less questionable game.
Fun to play with friends and not overly demanding with 24 hour cycle for online play.
Just like the board game. AI seems ok. Took me a few games to win as America on the allies side.
Dice are unrealisticly against you. Dont bother wasting time trying the other dice modes. Play HOI4 instead or play A&A in person for better results.
Its a classic, I do miss technology rolls, but aside from that its awesome. Sometimes the AI is a little slow and not to smart, but against other players, its a must have.
This has been so much fun! I've played 422 hrs lol...I hope they come out with MORE EXPANSIONS!
My only critique is when playing on regular dice mode it seems like the Bombers are hit with 1's a disproportionate amount of times? Is it just me? It genuinely seems like the computer rolls 1's more than usual when I have a single bomber attacking a factory! And then it gives me a pretty decent victory somewhere else after that! Like it's making up for it! Is it just me that thinks that? is it programmed to "compensate"? I am suspicious! Nevertheless, it's greatly enjoyable. Wish the computer was a bit harder though. some of it's moves are sus
Asynchronous digital play creates a game that is amazing for studying an impressively close to balanced mildly asymmetric game. The asymmetric starting positions is terrific for highlighting the mechanics of unit position/movement combined with territory value/position.
Truly what the game needs though is a replay feature. I wonder how far the meta game would advance if you could easily review how the effect of choices or bad luck reverberate through the turns, by being able to faster see how multiple games went.
It's a pretty straight forward adaptation of the board game. But rating it as a video game I have to say it's mediocre. So many quality of life things they could have added. Simple things like when you hover over a country or territory it says it's name and what units are there and their names. Little things like that... because it's a video game. So make the UI slick and helpful. I don't like the combat either.
Strange dice play on any setting, but just as I remember.
Great table top game. I play this game since early 90s. This is just a very poor and frustating version of the game. The original is sometimes depending on luck an sometimes on skill. This one is just unfair.
It's a solid implementation of a great classic board game.
For those who enjoy the tabletop version it is a nice conversion.
This is a great adaptation of the board game, I only wish it was slightly bigger map wise.
Truly the best way to play the board game: no set-up time, keeps track of everything. Beamdog has done a solid job of making all the pieces and moves "readable"--seriously, attack moves make for a busy board, and I've only had a few occasions where I discovered I had miss-clicked after the fact. Pleeeeease keep developing, and make more of these, and give us a map editor. TripleA is okay, but there should be an official place to play ranked, and share custom set-ups and house-rules mods.
Extremely fun and in-depth strategy game with fun play against robots and fun online game play with reasonable turn limits. While the game has some minor bugs they don't really impact game play. The discord community is also very active and fun, I would highly recommend the game.
Good adaptation of the classic board game. There is currently a large online community with a good ranking system for even match making. It's like chess on a world map. No two games are the same. The AI is good enough to learn the rules but quickly becomes too easy.
Allot of players use battle calculators which are pretty much a requirement to reach the upper ranks. There are some good calcs online. This is probably the best:

With close to 1000 hours played I still find myself drawn to playing "just one more game" !!!
Good strategy game. Find it quite theraputic!
This is a very nice online version of axis and allies 1942, it is best suited for people who love the axis and allies series or just like strategy games in general.
One small issued: when you load an anti-air on a transport and try to unload for an amphibious assault, instead of giving you message saying that it is not allowed, the game crashes with an error message.
Almost (like 90 per cent) as good as the Board Game Experience. Never use that standard setup, always go with Gen. setup if you want a good game. Game mechanics are fine, the dice are not always your friend. The AI is not impressive. Especially the AI Allies seem very un-coordinated, and Ally Coordination is key to winning.
Great way for me to play with my brother who is overseas. we can log in and feel closer together. AI is good enough to practice or learn against.
Whatever AI is controlling the computer play is not good enough. Whether you're playing the axis or the allies, the opponent (AI/system) has no idea how to properly utilize their navy. Makes the game too easy to win.
You can play over and over, and it is never the same game. Like Chess. The game is also competitive in computer mode as well.
Faithful representation of the board game. AI is ok for single player.
Not a terrible game and mostly plays as the board game. As a defender, I want to choose my losses. In an online multiplayer game, I can see how the current system works, but when I play a solo game, I should be able to choose them. Some locations, I may value ground troops over air, but with a default losses selection, every combat does it the same.
The game is a mostly faithful adaptation of the board game, though it seems to lack a lot of polish and refinements to make it a great experience for someone not familiar with the board game. I would say that if you love Axis and Allies you should certainly pick this up (especially if you can get it on sale) but if you are new to it, you may want experience the board game version first.
Just like the board game, but without the set up time.
Love this game, Well converted from board to screen
Like the board game but way faster. I love the "low luck " mode. You can also go into the save files and custom set up the game how ever you like, not too hard to do. Only thing I dont like is sometimes it is hard to see if your units are going where you want to and It might be nice to have a ROUND SAVE, or UNDO after you find out a unit did not move or can be placed .... possible throwing the units away and having to restart the game.
Fantastic game. It holds true to the gameboard version.
Great fun, once you get used to it. Very much a game that's difficult to put down.
Already a fan of the board game, I found this much better as I don't have to worry about my cat jumping on the board. A few expected quirks, but great overall.
I haven't loaded this game in years, and when I went back to it today it says I am banned. No explanation, no remedy, just screw me I guess. Do not waste your money on a game that will arbitrarily ban you when you aren't even using the software. Garbage product from a garbage company.
Axis & Allies 1942 Online is a fantastic digital adaptation of the classic strategy board game, delivering deep, tactical gameplay with all the complexity and historical flavor that fans of the series love. Whether you're a seasoned Axis & Allies veteran or a newcomer looking to experience one of the best turn-based grand strategy games ever made, this version is a must-play.
The game faithfully recreates the 1942 Second Edition rules, offering an experience that stays true to the original board game while streamlining elements for digital play. The turn-based mechanics ensure that every decision matters, from deploying units and planning attacks to securing vital supply lines and executing long-term strategies. The balance between economic management, military positioning, and alliance coordination makes for an engaging and rewarding experience every time you play.
The online multiplayer is where Axis & Allies 1942 Online truly shines. Being able to play against friends or challenge skilled opponents around the world adds an entirely new level of replayability. The async play option allows for long-form games that can be played over time, making it easier to fit into any schedule. The AI, while not perfect, provides a decent challenge for those looking to refine their strategies in solo play.
The interface and visuals are clean and well-designed, making it easy to track battles, territories, and unit placements without feeling overwhelmed. The addition of undo buttons and automated calculations for battle odds eliminates much of the bookkeeping from the board game, allowing players to focus on strategy rather than math.
While the game is still evolving with patches and improvements, the core experience is already excellent. For those who love grand strategy, historical wargaming, or just enjoy the challenge of world domination through tactical planning, Axis & Allies 1942 Online is a must-have.
Rating: 10/10 – A faithful and polished digital adaptation of a classic strategy masterpiece.
Great for fun simple strategy gaming. It's a great fit for beginners in strategy board games.
Pros: The Game is Awesome! Game play is also Awesome!
Cons: An alternate Map, Icons, and Color Scheme need to be created that make it easier to tell the countries apart. The old PC game map and country Icons would be great to have back.
A&A fans will enjoy this game. There are a few differences between the table top version and online. So temper your expectations to a 3.5 or 4/5 rating. It seems they have stopped patching or improving the game for the last couple years, so I'm not sure we can expect more improvements in the future.
i have the original PC game both discs 2 two disc system unfortunately my disc drive broken
