I should have listened to the other reviews. It's been abandoned a long time ago and needs a lot of work. Has so much potential, but falls short.
I have bought every wolverine game released - i think they make very attractive looking games
and yet this is the only negative steam review I have ever made. only 2 courses? no ability to even buy more. no ability to downloads mod courses from others. how popular would the PGA be if it had two courses. absolutely makes no sense
I wouldnt play this game if it was free - complete abandonware. too bad it had a real fun concept - but terrible follow through
Not the best management game around for sure but still worth a few seasons to give it a putt.
I personally had some fun
Broken, unfinished and abandoned. I have no idea why Wolverine didn't take the time to at least beta test this game. It would almost be playable if the end-of-year penalty was removed-- The core of the game is actually really good, but the issues make it a useless train wreck.
Saves get corrupted, some times mid-game.
Your character can only get worse. No amount of training or practice can over-come the year-end tax.
On higher levels of difficulty the pros shoot 32 under par for a weekend. Try to beat that.
Only two courses. You are told that more are available, but it is not true.
I could have liked this game. I even hope they make another like it. But my faith in Wolverine games is gone.
Hate to do it, but I agree wholeheartedly with OldFatGuy. Broken, since the 'progression' from season to season is merely a downward spiral. Disappointed in DDS as they are usually quite good about supporting their products and many are enjoyable (E.g. College Basketball) but this is a dreary grind.
Come on DDS... what happened? Can't you fix this game??
I like the game but it supposedly comes with 2 courses built in (nowhere near enough!) It claims to have more courses available on the website as well as user created courses to download in the forum but I can't find either so I'm sorry but this game is going to become very boring very quickly with only two courses to play a whole career on.
This game looks like the game I want to play. But it's so broken and there is no content.
Do not waste your time or money on this game. It apparently has already been abandoned as there is no evidence of any patching or even discussion in over a year as far as I can tell and it was just released a year and 3 months ago (Jul 2018... as of this review it is Oct 2019). And the game is unplayable in it's current state..... Well unplayable isn't really accurate as you could play it... but on certain settings you will never be able to compete and move up in rankings and tours.
You see, if you play on normal or above difficulty (haven't tested on easier settings as perhaps those may not suffer from this "glitch") you will find it literally impossible to improve your ratings. On normal or above settings, your beginning balance to purchase rating points leaves you with ratings that are very poor in general and you will not even be able to make the cut in the lowest tour available. In fact, breaking 80 is a rare feat. But that's okay, I thought, as that's part of the fun, staring out with little talent and improving over time with practice and hard work.
And you will find during the season you will improve. It can be a tough grind, but typically at the end of a season you will find that your ratings have improved somewhat, perhaps by as many as 10 points. Then you start a new season. And you discover that you lose more points from moving from one season to another than you gained during the season. And this repeats.... every.. single... season. I've tried over a dozen "careers" with as many as a dozen seasons in some of those careers, and not once, not a single, solitary time, did my golfer improve from season to season. He would always lose more rating points in the transition from season to another than he would gain from his in season training and practice.
At first I thought man I must be playing this wrong... and then noticed this was a theme in the discussion boards both here at Steam and at Wolverine Studios. So you could technically play the game... you will always only find your golfer getting worse from year to year with no way to compete in the tournaments and really earn some rating improvements. Now I don't know if the game suffers this fate on easier difficulty settings, as perhaps you start out with such improved ratings that you can actually compete and make the cuts in some of the tournaments earning money to buy more ratings improvements and thus improving more during the season than you lose in the transition from season to season.
I also don't know if you could overcome this "glitch" by playing with the 3-click mouse method of playing out your tournaments as I only simulated my tournaments. Since using the 3-click method results in your golfer's performance being more of a result of your "skill" at clicking the mouse at the right moments than on your golfers ratings, I suppose it's also possible to compete and make cuts this way and earn money to purchase enough ratings points each season to overcome the season to season losses and thus improve over time.
But if you just want to play a career on normal (or above) difficulty and have it unfold based on the golfer's ratings rather than your skill at hitting a button, then you will find it literally impossible to ever improve and compete. Best leave this one alone until at least there's some word on whether this will at some point be looked at again. As I said above, it appears to me as though the game has already been abandoned.
It's too bad too as the game does appear to have some very interesting RPG type elements and would be fun if it worked correctly.
don't waste your money crap
I'm not in love with this game. I had issues with crashes almost immediately. I'm all for giving the benefit of the doubt, but no game should be crashing in the area you're creating your profile.
When it gets to actually starting the game, again, I suffered a few crashes but persisted.
After I figured out the navigation system, and, roughly, what I should be doing I realised it was over a year before I could attend any competitions. I had to click through weeks and weeks, until it got to the actual tournament. In that time, you're able to train your player, but this isn't very well explained and I just ended up using the auto-select feature.
After clicking through probably 40 weeks, I finally got to a tournament. This part is okay, you have pretty decent control of your golfer and they act in line with their statistics. I'm all for long drawn out progression for realism.
The main issue I'm having with it though is that on the surface the game looks like it could do so much more! On your home screen there are quite a few tabs and pages to flick through, but few of them offer any real options to modify or fine-tune your experience.
In my opinion, the game still needs a lot of work, and I'll begrudingly give it another go at some point over the next few weeks. This could really be my kind of game if it's done right.
Should be noted, I did not play for 24.9 hours, it crashed whilst I was working on something and couldn't get the game to exit, so I just let it run in the background. It doesn't smash your CPU to pieces, at least.
It's an okay game. It would have been good at 9.99 $ but it'S not worth 18 $. Still enjoyable if you like golf sims.
