Not really sure what's going on with this game, But I liked it when I first got it. Set it down for a bit and wanted to pick it back up. After re-installation and launch of the game, It absolutely freaks out, automatically opens an endless supply of browser windows to the discord page and the game is unplayable as each time I switch back to the game screen it automatically redirects me to a new tabbed browser. Not sure what the fix is for this as I have uninstalled/reinstalled this game multiple times.
I would leave a positive recommendation, however this is the only game that acts this way for me. Sadly I won't be picking it back up.
If you enjoy a heavily strategic game, Starport Delta is the game for you! It will take many attempts to complete the more difficult levels, and learning new strategies is key. The campaign serves as a great tutorial, and the challenges are very, very challenging. It may look like like a "place and wait" game, but it's actually very hands on, with many events happening to try hinder your progress. You may encounter the odd bug, but they are ones you can play around, and the developers are very open to communication to try and improve their game.
Not a well-made game. Buggy, boring, and rather annoying at times. It will happily start you out without what you need, so you have to restart multiple times until you get RNG in your favor. They will ask you to do something without showing what it is they even mean. Half of your game play is reliant on you clicking through your station modules looking for some icon to be different than others for the 20th time. It's less about placement and more about finding stupid icons for random scraps.
Just.. not enjoyable at all.
Honestly, don't buy it, grab it at like 80% off or something. The game is unstable as hell. Money and resource yielding is frustrating. Yields aren't calculated at the end of the turn, but rather have the timing on the turn based on when they are built. Have $500 with positive cashflow? Guess what, you just got charged $510 and the AI sold a building in an unknown location to repay the debt. While I understand why calculations might be done this way, in practice it made it too frustrating to manage resource flows.
I was done with the campaign within 2 hours, played a bit of sandbox mode, but still was done within couple of minutes.
This game is absolutely broken. When a game shows that you have a positive resource flow yet you are losing said resources every single tick instead of gaining them - then the game is broken, END OF.
I've been working my way through the campaign and I'm really enjoying it so far. It reminds me a lot of some good board games that encourage you to think a few steps ahead, trying to plot out how you want everything to come together, all the while someone or something is busy trying to interrupt all of your plans. Much as I'm enjoying the campaign I'm looking forward to trying out sandbox mode as well and seeing just how far I can build my space station.
While I've still got a bunch more to get through, I'd definitely recommend it if you want something that's got some solid strategy to it but not as intense as some RTS' or management sims.
Starport Delta is a platform puzzle space station builder. You must gather and manage resources and build your empire while space and horrifying invaders try to kick it down.
The base rules are simple. Plant your resources to support life and then build living quarters and try to find harmony between the populace who bring income and the equipment that keeps them alive. Its a simple concept and seems easy to do but space, pirates and general maintenance have different ideas. Get ready, about the time you have things in order meteor showers or Pirates have different ideas and Pirates don't care if you Just survived a meteor storm. Maintenance costs may overwhelm you, but you really do need that extra laser and shield generator.
All of this is incased in beautiful backdrops, fantastic voice acting and an easy to understand UI. An absolutely beautiful brain teaser of a game with ambient music and several different ways to challenge yourself from the Campaign to the Sand box.
See how you stand up to your peers by checking your place on the leaderboards!
I’m a sucker for games from the Sims franchise and Starport Delta does a great job at giving me my fix of world building, IN SPACE! The tutorial was easy to play through and learn the ropes, while the campaign turns it up a little and goes more into depth with what can be done with buildings, resource management and environment mishaps. Besides the campaign there is a way to just run wild in a sandbox, try your hand at some challenges, or play custom games and play at your pace. Each one was fun, but I preferred the sandbox mode. It was nice to see how large I could get my base, and also helped me figure out placements for upgrading buildings.
The characters, buildings, and environment designs are really vibrant. The voice acting sounds good and the dialog is entertaining. Also, let’s talk about the soundtrack, it is EPIC! Made playing the game for hours pleasurable.
I also love when a development team utilizes discord to reach out with their audience and work together to create a really great game.
Overall, if you enjoy resource management genre games, anything space and want to rock out to an amazing soundtrack, then this game is for you.
This product feels more like in early release than a completed game. In this game you can build a total of 8 types of buildings, buildings is built in a hex tile (similar to civ). You NEED a minimum of 7 types of buildings; divided into +population and +metal (mine). So in this game you can either build housing to increase population (which increases $), or increase metal via mine. That is all to it. Every once a while (on a timer), there will be meteor shower and space pirates. This will generate space rubbish in which one of the 7 buildings will slowly clean up the rubbish. This makes expansion or building new buildings a big hassle, as by the time the rubbish is cleared, a new batch of rubbish will form making people who like to plan their cities like Cities skyline or simcity feeling very very annoyed.
Good:
- Under the impression this is a space port sim (which isnt)
Bad:
- Tried to get refund - failed
- Annoying and very tedious process to build buildings
- Only 2 main buildings , housing or mine = boring
- Feel and look is to me is very Alpha
- No proper mission or tutorial. Yes they it but it felt like a rushed job and feels very incomplete
I saw this game at PAX, played it and couldn't wait for it to come it. The premise was super fun. Unfortunately, I am putting the game down fairly quickly and not making plans to return.
I can't play above regular speed because money and resources aren't calculated correctly. Despite positive indicators, as days pass, the amounts decline. When I pause the game, ships still attack my buildings and destroy them.
Money and resource yielding is frustrating. Yields aren't calculated at the end of the turn, but rather have the timing on the turn based on when they are built. Have $500 with positive cashflow? Fun space station management game. Great graphics, voice acting, humor. UI is really polished.
It's a good way to pass some time on Zoom meetings while under lockdown :P
Zen mode is pretty chilled out, great if you want to skip the destruction part of the mechanics and just want to muck around and build a cool station.
Also, it has well-executed (HDR-based) bloom. Love me some bloom.
Please watch You Tube or Twitch to see if you like what you see before you buy, I think people are buying the game and jumping into sandbox, getting hammered then leaving a negative review. I played most of the campaign which makes for a pretty good tutorial, and it still took a while to get the hang of sandbox, but very rewarding when you do. The Devs are working hard at updating the game and are active on discord, will not be surprised if this game becomes a classic like Sim City.
Would recommend this game to anyone looking for a new base-builder/management game.
The visuals are clean and polished, with well detailed models and the music adds another layer to the immersion of this game
The developers also appear to be keen to take on feedback and add improvements which is always a bonus for a game.
Starport Delta is easy to learn but difficult to master, a good challenge to keep you busy.
Though there are some bugs to work out which they have been more than responsive to the community it's a good game if you are looking to just chill and build a space station probably not the game for you there is a learning curve so plan on restarting 10 times or so before you get the hang of it Just spent a few hours in Zen sandbox I would say play around in there if you are having issues with the mechanics of the game that way there is not the stress of the events that will destroy your whole station if you are left unprepared This has been on my wish list for a good while I would like to see a bit more content such as more buildings, research, ect. but it was worth the more i paid for it and has kept me entertained it was just lunched so some bugs and issues are expected
An enjoyable and pretty rewarding game, perfect for eating up the hours while under COVID-19 lockdown.
This game can actually be quite calming, looking out into the depths of space, which lulls you into a false sense of security right before a meteor shower or raging space worm crash through your precious buildings!
The visuals are an obvious highlight, but the music also adds a depth to the atmosphere that I didn't expect.
Simple yet challenging, took me a few goes to get the starting strategy sorted, now managing to build a decent sized starport.
I've been having lots of fun with this, on the leader board and everything! I should've been cleaning and doing other productive stuff today but this was too good to quit. It has that really addictive, "Oh I'll stop right after I do this thing," which you do then keep playing for another 2 hours while you should be sleeping. I did have some feedback for the developers (my humble opinions on things I'd like to see in the future) and I was really surprised how quickly they responded and asked me for more details and additional feedback on my experience.
Be prepared to lose all sorts of time to this one. Now I'll just go build one more thing before bed.
9/10 - The tutorial was very easy to understand and surprisingly short but informative for such an advanced game.
One of my favourite features would have to be the air lock mechanic where players can get rid of security threats by throwing people, infestation and radioactive material out the air lock instead of removing them in a professional manner. I wish more city builders had more small comedic moments like this.
One thing I would like to see in Starport Delta going forward is the implementation of a major pop-up that tells you what building was destroyed when buildings automatically get removed to save cash. I'm sure the devs will continue to do a great job and improve the game.
EDIT: I've come to realize this game has much more depth than I originally thought. There's not a right way to do things, but there is a way to do things right. Lots of variables in the way you design the space station but you still have to balance your economy -v- growth. Don't be afraid to disassemble some buildings if necessary, especially when starting a scenario that has a pre-made spaceport. I'm looking at you Scenario 4 of the campaign.
This is a great game with great dev's.
I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming form. Certainly there's a learning curve, but not one that's all that difficult to "flatten" out. The Dev's are on the discord channel to answer questions if you need help and take feedback on the game.
Graphics are great, just make sure you adjust the gamma to suit your taste.
There is much sarcasm and silliness from the AI computer and the trainer who will guide you through the tutorial. Mostly directed to an NPC who is promoted beyond his ability and constantly finds ways to put you into situations where you can learn how to fix his screw-ups while learning the game.
I find it refreshing the tutorial is done this way and I hope other game companies adopt something similar as the tutorial is included in the normal flow of the game and provides much humor while climbing the learning curve.
I also really like the simplistic style of the UI and how it uses that simplicity to provide you the needed information. To see it in all it's glory click on the buttons at the top center of the screen. These turn on colored bits in each hex that tell you what services that hex is currently receiving. It works wonderfully.
Good game, great polish, the basic gameplay loops are there. It is true that there isn't much to it yet beyond those, but it works for a casual few hours. Devs have slated that changes would soon be coming (more variety of patterns, quality of life changes as to reposessions and security scans, etc)
Having said that, sometimes less is more. You only have 9 buildings but as your base grows, planning becomes increasingly chaotic. The games economy can be challenging and the difficulty goes up with disasters - which is where the game really starts to shine and every event becomes a test of your proactive planning (not much point in Zen sandbox mode, IMO).
The campaign has an interesting story (if tutorialy and with some terrible pins) but I haven't played much of it. Early campaign is for people who really don't play RTS games.
There are a few minor problems with the polish that are being solved (i.e. lighting in some environments.) and Security Scans aren't that compelling (but they do keep you out of a bind!), though again, this is slated to be overhauled in later updates.
So all in all, it is true that it is, at the time of release, a bit of barebones for now - though with a very solid foundation (no feature creep!!) and a lot of avenues for it to grow. It doesn't feel like one of those early access titles where you know the game is already abandonware or where feature creep means any sort of completion is unreasonable. The devs are very committed and engaged with their community, and the price is actually very reasonable too, so tbh I still recommend it, for now or for down the line ( enough that I'm actually bothered to write a review so take that as you will lol )
At first I was like "yay tutorial! This is awesome!" And then I was like "there is no time control, this is slow and tedious!"
I skipped tutorial 2 to go direct to single player mode. Slow.
Then I went to sandbox mode. Also slow, but unlocks more buildings.
Eh, trying out new games is fun, but this one didn't hold my interest.
