The puzzle battle gameplay works as follows: each of the 25 tiles on the field is a certain color. When you correctly reveal a tile, a number will be displayed inside that tile. This number tells you how many of the 4 surrounding tiles (North, South, East, and West - NO DIAGONALS!) are that same color. When you incorrectly guess a tile, you will be hit by the monster you're currently battling. Different monsters have different properties, effects, and so on. Throughout the dungeon you will find equipment which will aid you in battle, for example by allowing you to regenerate hit points or have armor to reduce the damage you take from enemies.
Conveniently, the game auto-saves after each battle. You can exit out of the application and resume later. If you enjoy Picross, Sudoku, or Minesweeper, you will love this game!

stylistically very cool but the actual gameplay is too reliant on RNG. the brief moments where you can actually apply logic are lovely and you can very clearly see something special here that would eventually be evolved in tess elated and jubilane. would love to see a sequel to this that fixes up the RNG stuff tbh
Logik And Puzzels
It's a minesweeper game that runs at a super low resolution and gets old after your first run. It looks like it took less than a week to make. It won't stay on your hard-drive longer than 30 minutes.
Don't let the description fool you! This is all Minesweeper, requiring guess after guess (including the first square of *every* puzzle), and not a bit like the logic-driven Picross or Sudoku. Also, key interface items are never explained and the game displays in a teeny tiny window with no way to run it full-screen.
I've played the mobile version of this game before and this version is every bit as good! The game itself is a twist on the minesweeper concept. The number and color of a tile on the grid gives you an indication of the color of the adjacent tiles and it is your job to figure them out correctly. This basic game mechanic is wrapped in a dungeon crawler aesthetic, where every board you must solve is actually a battle you're having with some kind of enemy. Mistakes you make are interpreted as the damage you're taking in the battle. This gives a surprising amount of motivation to keep on playing and progressing to see what new things the game has in store.
Things that confused me;
The tutorial, as I wasn't thinking Minsweeper, even though it states in the blurb that it's part minesweeper... (you see, I'm a bit of a moron, reading's not my type of a thing apparently...)
The "gold digging" giving you ten tries, I thought it meant ten "clicks" but you get to miss gold ten times, every time you strike gold it doesn't count.
Me thinking about anything, that always confuses me...which has nothing to do with the game...
The game, what is it?
It is what it says in the blurb, basically minsweeper but with different colour mixed in to both make it harder but also easier du to knowing 0 means 4 squares around this has 0 of this colour - which makes all the surrounding being of the other colour...unless you have three colours to choose from. (unlike minesweeper this game doesn't care about diagonals, no "block" can ever show more than 4 surrounding of the same colour)
You also get some items like healing potions, you encounter some gambling along the way (click heads or tails when the graphic shows the one you're clicking) and people selling you useful items.
This is a very nice casual type of game, I don't have any form of a major complaint about the game, I just wish I was born with something resembling a brain... (the dev. seems like a very nice bloke as well, which always is a nice bonus)
I played this game a TON on mobile. A minesweeper/dungeon-crawler makes for a brilliantly addictive combo. It's well worth the $3 asking price.
Cavesweeper is a weird combination logic puzzle / RPG battle game that hits this weird sweet spot in my brain. The logic puzzle is exactly the sort of Minesweeper-like constraint-solving mechanic that I can just sit and play with endlessly. But as the game progresses, the puzzle's difficulty is ratcheted up such that it can't be completely solved by logic alone, and you have to make tactical decisions about what risks you're willing to take to gain information. I don't get sucked into a lot of games, but once I start a Cavesweeper run I gotta see it through. I was pretty sad when Apple broke the iPhone version after an upgrade, so I was super excited to learn it had made its way to the PC.
Hoping Bonkey Trek gets a re-release next!

Once you start, you will not be able to stop - the gameplay is addictive AF.
Great artwork, scintillating music, fun decisions to make. I get a huge dopmaine rush when the coin toss event happens.
If you aren't playing the PC version of Cavesweeper, you are missing out *BIG* time.

It's a great take on Minesweeper but obviously better. Must play for dungeon-crawler fans.
I have been a fan of bankbank since I played Four Winds Fantasy. He is one of my favourite indie game developers. He has great ideas and an unrestrained style. You could say, that he is a big inspiration to me.
Cavesweeper is one of my favourite games by bankbank, and also one of my favourite puzzle games. I am very happy to see it come to PC, originally having been released on smart phone (highly recommend grabbing it on that too for cave sweeping on the go). This 'reframed' and updated version translates well to the big screen, and being able to listen to the mesmerising original soundtrack by the man himself in FULL 4D AUDIOIC TRANSCENDENCE is a real treat.
This game is a great challenge, fun and addicting, a treasure.
