Game crashes in the graphic-glitched section (in dark rooms with red ambient light). Tested on two different PCs, all crashed. This game has some interesting concepts, but I couldn't recommend it as the game fails to run in order.
At first I though that it will be a very short game but I make purposely the wrong answer and everything gone wrong ( good wrong) I'm glad that I played this
The effects used in this game is just too much. It blurs my vision and hurts my head. The idea of terrifying people with the minimal jump scares was great but this alternative approach of the horror game was not impressive enough. It 'feels' like it has some creepy and deep undertone but the quality of the game makes it hard for the players to focus. I was hoping to turn the game off while playing this game, the level of annoyance was unbelievable. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. Just watch the replay video from Youtube if you are curious about how this game goes.
Finally finished, but short and boring than I thought when I didn't ever play.
i jumpscared myself with a stationary object. 8/10
I didn't realize a half-hour game could be this boring and repetitive.
A decent 4th wall breaking experience
The context in which I played this game has a huge impact on my recommendation: I was looking for ANYTHING to take my mind off some anxious thoughts. Not knowing what exactly I wanted to play, I was going through my pile of shame - short indie games I bought at some point and never got around to playing - and started _dive without checking what this exact game was about again.
If I had only read the one sentence in the description, I would have known that escapism was something that this game would deconstruct rather than giving me a distracting experience. However, because I just started it without knowing what to expect, the experience was like a wake up call to me and I guess I'm gonna go and deal with my issues now before I try to immerse myself in some other virtual world again.
Nice little game, though pretty ironic that it works best when you don't know what you're getting into but at the same time you should be open to these kinds of experiences. I guess my recommendation is to follow my lead: buy it, keep it in your library so long you forget what it's about and then let your mind be blown once you pick it up again.
_Dive is a progressive experience that demands you to logically use your eyes, ears and respond to a test before being granted entry to a hypothetical VR experience. For those who don't enjoy games like The Stanley Parable you're better off avoiding this because it offers over 5 minutes+ of repetition before any serious changes start to happen and by then anyone who is after a quick fix brain switchoff will have given up on this within those 5 minutes
The controls and visuals are simplistic, either arrow keys or WASD to move alongside Left mouse or Spacebar/Return key for interactions while the graphics are an intense almost hospital-like whiteness in the early stages of the game with a shining white path to follow towards screens that feature a 2 buttoned console to make choices from.
There can be stages of motion blur especially as the game progresses so those who suffer motion sickness
be wary
The concept behind _Dive is of Awareness of the potential dangers of a VR world that, through daily use (much like regular MMORPGs do in say Elder Scrolls or myself in Mobius FF) becomes an accustomed habit that, with most daily activities, lead to a dependency.
The Awareness message is when we surrender our daily social routines to a fictional AI driven world what becomes of us when say the AI becomes corrupted & our real world had already disintegrated into a lonely, anti-social, blind denial of what's really around us.
The premise behind that is to be respected but with one drawback, escapism has happened for many decades now firstly through music, then TV and now the Gaming & VR advances that we see today. Anything is considered acceptable in moderation but wherever you look escapism is never practised in moderation even those who watch TV!!
What fell down for me throughout that Awareness message is that, throughout the game, it felt to me that this test would've worked effectively as a twist showing the player as recovering from a head traumatic accident and the gradual progression was the player becoming coherent with what had happened. This, for me, would've added sense to the direction being taken through the stages of the test and the revelation would've made this a less bitter pill.
Overall, I am genuinely uncertain if I can recommend this mostly due to the slow-burning repetition of the test before it starts to show more drastic alterations, the wide-reaching scope escapism falls under making this a far-reaching phenomena NOT specific to the upcoming VR world and the overused 'psychological' testing that could only ever have so many variations before it went from puzzling to extremely exaggerated making this limited to a one time playthrough.
That's not to say there won't be players who won't enjoy the heck out of this and for those players who enjoy a puzzling, psychological mystery please try this you probably will love it!!

awsome game for 2$ a must pic of for a quick scare or to make your friends worry about jump scare the entire time
Pretty cool game
worth the price and gave me goosebumps throughout the whole thing.
Short, but sort of interesting.
Just a great psychological horror with 25 minutes of pure gameplay.
very nice game short but cool
A nice little ultra-minimalist horror piece that shows off some of what you can do with very little. Kind of like what you'd get if you combined Stanley Parable with Pony Island and then deleted it.
Well at least, I overcome my anxiety.
_dive is a great short game but don't trust the tags and take seriously to warnings in description. (EDIT : Thanks for adding the tag "Psychological Horror" !)
I got this game on sales but I think it's worth for the starting price.
When taking a look at _dive on the store page, it seems relatively benign. Maybe it's some sort of first person puzzle game or one of those games that asks a few questions and does whatever. So I decided I'd give it a shot - if anything it'd be cheap Youtube content.
So what did I get? Well - are you happy or sad? Answer the questions and it'll take you on a journey that's a bit more trippy than it lets on.
_dive is short, buggy to some extent (the buttons are a pain to press), but it does a decent job of worming its way into your head. The progress in the game is slow at first but starts ramping up pretty quick and things change quite a bit. So if you're into games that'll mess with your head a bit and keep you on your toes, this may be right up your alley. If you get spooked easily or don't care for that kind of stuff, then it's an easy pass.
There are only two cons about the game. The first is a big issue and that's the problem of pressing the buttons necessary to continue the game. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not (as in a way to mess with you) but it's frustrating. The second issue is relatively minor, but the price, while not ridiculous, might be a bit too high for some people for a relatively short experience - 30 minutes or so. Yes, I realize the $2 isn't much at all and I don't mind paying it. But I can see where others may take issue with it and would prefer it around the dollar mark.
Oh and the cheap YT content: https://youtu.be/53ZiiKKD4d4
