I would stay away, I purchased this to see if I wanted to spend for the more expensive newer version, I will tell you I do not want that newer version. This was HORRIBLE for sim football, recruiting was a joke with their drop downs and no information, setting lineups sucked and didn't work, I attempted to coach the games. I started with one of the best in the game, and promptly started 1-5. I was up in every game by 14 or more points in the first half, the second half the other team, no matter how bad, couldn't be tackled and couldn't miss a tackle and none of my WR would catch a pass. I was up 35-0 in a game starting the second half with the ball. 3rd and 5 I call a shotgun pass, and the de is in the backfield before the snap even happens, gets the sack of course. Then same game mind you, now I am up 35-21 in the 3rd quarter and they have the ball with 2 minutes left. I call a nickel D on 3rd and 17 after a stop and sack pushing them back to the 40 from the 50 (roughly). The computer put the WR on MY 20 yard line then at the snap BOTH my safteys, even though we are playing deep zones mind you, rushed the line of scrimmage and the CPU threw the ball immediately 40 yards down field caught the ball and scored. I lost that game 49-35, I had 0 catches out of wr I had 4 fumbles 2 by my qb 1 on a play that was a designed dive play for the rb, and negative second half yards. Oh btw I was playing an 0-6 team that was averaging like 14 points a game and giving up 50. So unless they can confirm a SERIOUS upgrade to this game, I would recommend everybody ignore this and go find something different.

TL;DR

3/10: A video game about (American) Football in which teams can successfully kick field goals from their own one yard line should tell the reader everything they need to know about this game's match engine.

Overview

Are there any abandonware aficionados out there who remember the (American) Football coaching game Super Sunday? The developer of Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018 hopes you don't, because Super Sunday was made in 1986, could be played on computers with less that 256k of RAM, and still had a superior match engine to Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018!

In addition to on-field play calling, Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018 also involves managing an American College Football program with one of the many likenesses of real life schools. Training schedules for individual players can be set, and of course, scouting and recruiting next year's batch of players from (real life) high schools all across America. (The player may even see a potential recruit who goes to their old high school!)

Graphics and Sound

Invocation of the saying "you get what you pay for." Graphics are an early copy of the Football Manager games from fifteen years ago with dots running round on a field, only these dots do not accurately represent what's happening in the game. Much like Super Sunday, Quarterbacks almost always throw the ball for the same distance, but how much the receiver runs after the catch determines how many yards the play went for. Everything else wrong with the graphics (which goes hand-in-hand with the stupid match engine) will be discussed later in this review.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1977882712

Sounds are limited mostly to two effects: One type of cheering when the home team scores and a different (and less loud) cheer audio file plays when the away team scores.

Positives

The recruiting process is the best aspect of Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018. While there is the powerlessness aspect of which school a high school player will ultimately sign with, there's no national signing day like in real life, so the player won't have to find out at the same time on one critical day if the player succeeded or failed at signing a high school recruit.

To compensate for the "IQ of a brain damaged butt monkey" excuse of a game engine, games in Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018 can be reloaded until the player gets a favorable outcome for a game.

Players can be retrained to learn new positions, which is helpful for managing player surpluses and shortages at whatever positions. (Ol' Il Pallino helped bolster his Linebackers by taking a surplus Strong Safety who was strong and a good tackler but otherwise deemed too slow to play as a Safety, and retrained the player.)

Negatives

Everything, LOL! Alright... The absolute worst thing about Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018 is the match engine. Like in Super Sunday, Quarterbacks almost always throw balls to Wide Receivers for the same distance. It doesn't matter if the play is short pass from the Spread formation or a long pass from the Shotgun formation, the only difference is how many yards the Wide Receiver runs for after the catch. (The length of passes thrown to Running Backs, Fullbacks, and Tight Ends has slightly more variety, but the player only sees yards after the catch.) Another common occurrence is that a Wide Receiver will appear to be wide open, then the pass will be incomplete, and the synopsis of the play claims a defensive player broke-up the pass despite no defensive players appearing anywhere near the offensive player.

Another problem with the game engine, is that players in passing plays (especially Wide Receivers) do not behave anything like what the diagram of the passing play infers in the play selection screen. The worst part is that Defensive Backs (especially the Free Safety) in a 3-4 or 4-3 defense behave nothing like their real life counterparts, and if the player wants any hope for stopping another team's passing plays, they better best be prepared to use Nickel and Dime defensive schemes much more than what teams employ in real life.

One problem with player recruitment, is that a high school player who has a high attribute for their Values Playing Time statistic cannot just look at a school and see which players are graduating (or how lame the current bunch of players happens to be) and give the inside track to a school who has a critical need for a talented player in their position.

Apart from the in-match AI being so flawed, the AI used to automate the team's depth chart and the recruiting process are also horribly flawed, and the player better be ready to sit down and go back and forth between their roster and depth chart to determine which players are the starters for each position. Admittedly, ol' Il Pallino is too scared to see what automating the recruiting process would do, but it's safe to say the AI isn't going to recruit players according to needs or take into consideration which players are graduating.

Conclusion

Players should save their money. Ol' Il Pallino went over the two hour limit to make a good faith effort to play a game the Angry Video Game Nerd would describe as an "essload of eff." (The individual dealt with by ol' Il Pallino in getting a refund rejected the refund, and didn't care that a good faith effort was made to enjoy Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018.) There's later editions made to Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018, but players should not take the chance.

Edit: More proof of this game having the worst match engine ever made: Nobody other than offensive linemen were ever known to have been penalized for chop blocks, and somehow my quarterback managed to commit one... How in the world is this possible?!

Football Manager (Soccer) and OOTP Baseball but for College Football

The game is by no means polished like the titles i listed but they release yearly versions that move the game further and further along. If you love simulation games and Love College Football, buy it.

If you are a huge college football fan like I am this is a must own game. This is only the 2nd year it has been released so the developers are still working on things but are very active in listening to the community. There are mods so that every team's mascot is represented. I'm currently in an online dynasty and it is a lot of fun. You do not actually play the game like you would in NCAA Football that no longer exists. Rather it is more about strategy and every little thing matters. Each player has several personality traits as do the coaches. You have to set training schedules, playbooks, formations for certain down and distances. Also recruiting is extremely in depth. Each player has to be scouted to unlock their main interests that could be anything from distance, to how much you win, to how loyal your coaches, etc. It's not easy and there aren't a lot of guides out there to help you but the members of the community are very helpful. IMO it's a must have for any college football fan.

I really enjoyed the game. It is similar to Bowl Bound but much better graphically and the player ratings make a lot more sense. I cannot recommend it though because it crashes. I get a unpacking error where I cannot load my current league. I have not been able to finish one whole season before this error occurs.

Very fun game if you love football sims. I wont recommend it because my game keeps crashing after finishing the first year. I dont know if others are having this problem but if they arent this game is great.
Edit: Crash fixed itself so maybe it was an uncommon occurence. I'll recommend it but be patient if your game crashes and try and figure out what it was.

This is dissapointing. I really enjoy DDS College Basketball and was hoping to jump into something with a similar style, but this game is in desperate need of a UX designer. There is no contextual help in the game. Not even rollovers. The recruiting isn't in depth at all. You assign a number of scouting points and recruiting points and move on. You have to select them from a dropdown 1 by 1 and even though the game will let you type the amount of points, it wont save it. I can't set my lineups and sim. If I want to set my lineups I have to sit through games that would take hours each. There isn't a list view of recruits like DDS CB, instead it's lists of cards with too much info. Who knows what 'hidden' means? You can't change recruiting difficulty and training was a total wash without instructions as to what I'm doing. Not sure if the developer is even working on this anymore. DDS CB was addicting, this is just annoying. Would not recommend spending money on this unless it was $5.

I was looking for a more graphical version of Bowl Bound College Football and this fits the bill. It's just as much of a deep strategy planning game, with some more modern touches. After playing a few seasons I haven't had any major technical issues and everything seems to run well on Windows 10.

If you're interested in this, I recommend watching a series of Youtube videos by Ragin Cajun. Also, on Wolverine Studio's website you can download a demo version to try before you buy.

There is an active community at the dev's website, but I haven't seen so much as a single discussion here on Steam. I believe this is the first review here, too. I dragged my feet on buying this, not wanting to be the first one, but in the end I did and am happy with my purchase. It's not for everyone, but if you like Bowl Bound or similar sports management games you may want to check this out.
