Maybe it’s not too late to turn back now.

Blackout is a non-linear interactive fiction game set in a dark modern universe, influenced by White Wolf’s World of Darkness, H.P. Lovecraft and weird shows like Twin Peaks.
In Blackout, you have 3 attributes that will change during the game: Courage, Sanity and Fitness. These attributes will also lock or unlock choices or paths, as will some items you may acquire along the way.
Blackout is a game about hidden monsters and hidden fears, and ultimately about overcoming the worst adversary: one’s true self.
You play as a man who finds himself lost in a dark street somewhere in the city of New Wenders. It doesn’t take long before you start having flashbacks and regaining your memory. Something terrible happened, and you were part of it. This event somehow opened your eyes to a whole new world that has been hiding beneath the shadows.
As the player, you have the choice to dig deeper into this unspeakable deed or try to leave it all behind. Blackout is a game about choices, every chapter of the game takes place in a different location, and the order in which the chapters take place will change based on your choices. Even more so, the path you take inside each chapter varies greatly, and the effect of your choices could ripple across all chapters, meaning you could have a very different experience on a new playthrough.

Badly written as a horror VN. Wastes too much time on animation. Starts with cold open, only to lose pacing with the flashback retrospection and puzzle. Sorry, I already recognize tricks authors used to extend the game length. Quick spotlights on the fragments of the one picture, only to repeat showing of the full picture? Slow showing of line-by-line fluff text?
Nope, no dice. I do not have time for a VN that does not value my time to provide meaningful narrative.
The art is really well done, and the writing is alright - the descriptions and atmosphere setting are pretty good, but some of the dialogue isn't.
I did run into some a few non-sequitur scenes during my gameplay, unfortunately, a problem that is all too common in Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style games. None of those were particularly bad, but they do break the immersion a bit.
Still, easy to recommend. It's a short but entertaining adventure, and one could easily play it more than once to see missed details and routes - I most likely will do, as I'm curious about at least one other possible ending.
Very nice little adventure game. Could have used a few more soundtracks and the implementation of the story branches was a bit clumsy: in some playthroughs I received the same flashbacks more then one time and Will introduced himself more then once if I recall correctly. But overall it was fun wo experiment with the different outcomes. I hope you will make more horror themed choose your own adventure games in the futures
This is a visual novel with 'choose your own adventure' features. I recommend it. Those who are interested in the game can watch the gameplay video from the link below:

Usually my rule of thumb is that "1€ paid must equal 1 hour played". I just finished my first playthrough of this partially comic-book style visual novel in less than 70 minutes and got the first of six endings, so Blackout falls a bit shy on that rule. However, there are different endings and choices matter, so there is still some game to explore. I will probably return to the game to get some more endings, but I still wanted to drop a short review -- considering the game has been out for 2 years and only has a dozen reviews, it sure needs the attention.
Overall I would consider this a decent visual novel with an interesting premise and execution. It is quite short, though, all things considered, so you should only get it on sale, even if you are willing to spend additional playthroughs to get the whole picture.
As I wrote initially, I have not done that yet but am probably going to, but I also know from my own experience that not everyone likes multiple playthroughs. So, just consider that you are only going to be playing for 60-90 minutes or so before seeing the ending.
A very good choose-your-own-adventure gamebook, with some interesting writing. As you play through the game, there are some nice touches with comic-style panel pictures, a few character stats - that effect choices, some jig-saw puzzle solving, and a couple decent synth-tunes.
The game expects multiple playthoughs - each taking a couple hours. I saw less than half the game content on my first attempt, yet, I did not play through the game again. It will be a while before I play through the game again, because it is too slow paced for me to read through that the same story.
I enjoyed learning about the "man in a hat" on an ubuntu linux desktop computer. I had no technical issues.
The game itself is pretty fun, I think I would recommend it. The story is well written, the art is cool and the gameplay aspect is intriguing enough.
Would appreciate optional hints (maybe be able to see a vague hint in the gallery from the menu) for pre-requisites for missing interactions in locations (as in, what must I have/do before entering this location, so I don't have to constantly replay to get those few missing ones).
A super cool games with more than 1 ending . Its a really replay and know more about the story and get a different ending. 10/10
Enjoyable choose your own adventure game.
The art/design is well done and fits the vibe.
There are quite a few paths to take, so re-playability is good.
The music and sound effects are lower quality than the rest of the game.
Some of the paths do become a little compromised, continuity-wise, for example mentioning things later that you didn't experience earlier - so depending on the path you take the story can be fully coherent or a little incoherent, this isn't a major problem for most paths.
Overall, it's a very good game, I always love a good choose you own adventure, and if you do too, you will likely enjoy Blackout.
Cool game if you like choose your own adventures.
Spent two hours of my life very satisfactorly. Will sure play an other run to try to reach an other ending. Really makes you wonder.
It has my recommendation for solid writing and an intriguing little mystery, but the emphasis is on little.
Maybe this was my bad luck, but I happened to get to the bottom of the mystery on my first playthrough, about 40 minutes in. I've played through it a few more times since then and while it's possible I've missed some side stories, and I haven't gotten a halfway "good" ending yet, without the central mystery to drive the plot my willingness to keep playing is mostly gone. Most branching narrative games in this vein lock the True Ending type story behind a few playthroughs for a reason.
Again, good writing, solid characterization, neat locations, polished presentation and a nice mystery at the core, but if you're in it for the story you can be done with it in half an hour. If that sounds like it's worth it, by all means buy this game!
A fine example of the genre. Well-executed and polished.
A choose your own adventure with a nice look, interesting plot, and variety of choices to make.
Good replayability with the ability to skip through puzzles you completed on previous attempts.
If you enjoy reading it is a must have. It does a good job of tracking what you've done in previous paths to help you experience different things a long the way. The art is nice.
