this game is great but it is genuinely ruining my life, I spend way too much time per puzzle in the higher tiers
The UI is a mess. It's more of a puzzle to figure out HOW to play, than it is to actually solve puzzles.
sep 2022 edit: halloween dlc out with 102 new puzzles, plus base game and dlc prices got raised. for all the content it's still not bad but the game+2dlc used to be 7ish eur until now.
infinipicross 2.0 is one of the best nonograms on the market. to be fair, there's not much competition on steam, as most games in the genre lack all sorts of necessary features, and while this isn't perfect either, at least the developers know what makes nonograms fun to solve.
they know nothing about designing a remotely acceptable user interface though. the puzzle shouldn't be figuring out what the icons do in the goddamn menu. you know your game has a bad ui when a random player has to write an entire manual for it, so skim it and configure the game to your liking. after choosing a pleasant color scheme with the paintbrush icon and some practice with the controls, you're golden. the too small ui in the top left corner won't really be an issue either, all you need is the mouse and a few hotkeys for bigger levels.
speaking of size, the base game has 304 puzzle between 5x5 and 100x100(!), and 3 pieces of dlc are available with about 100 more levels each. it's worth noting that not all are divisible by 5, so there's 23x30, 14x18, etc. which is always a bit confusing. either way, that's 600+ levels and a seed-based level generator (if random pixel noise is your jam, between 3x3 and 100x100), much better value even at the new price set in september 2022 than those fancy-looking, often overpriced nonograms with barely any content or basic functionality.
what basic functionality, you ask? in no particular order: mid-level saving for individual puzzles, the selection stays in the current line (very handy for marking really long sections), numbers show how many cells are selected, undo, redo, timer toggle (only with the whole upper left section of the ui, which you won't really need after a while), number clues fade out one by one, and no mistakes counter, level reset or other nonsense, just pure nonogramming. there are also hints if you get stuck, solving a random square, and they keep recharging every few seconds.
what's missing is marking a cell as maybe and confirmation before level reset. no pause either, but progress is saved when you quit, so might as well do that if completion time is that important, but it's not even shown on level select, which in turn can be filtered by vertical and horizontal size (small by medium, large by small, etc.). pretty cool, and solved levels can be hidden as well, but thumbnails are so tiny it's hard to see what's on the pictures sometimes. oh, and once a level is complete, you can switch between the grid, the colored grid and the actual image, then load the next puzzle without visiting level select again.
with such huge levels, zooming and panning are just as essential. my understanding is the first game doesn't have them, which is baffling, but that one only has boring random levels, so what do I care? both can be achieved here either by clicking tiny icons in the corner, or with the mouse and keyboard. mouse wheel goes up/down if the puzzle is zoomed in, ctrl+mouse wheel zooms, caps lock switches between mouse wheel up/down and zoom, and if you pan with mouse wheel held, there's no need for the keyboard at all, but wasd also works, +/- to zoom, etc. it's a bit fiddly to get the sides and corners closer to the middle of the screen, as you can only move the level to the right and down until it hits the edge, but it's doable with some zooming and moving around. or you can solve stuff off-center, I just find it less convenient.
there are toggles for current line and row highlights, and another really handy option, especially for levels that need to be zoomed in: coordinates in the bottom left corner. e.g. '5.15' means the cursor is in column 5, line 15, and number clues for the current line and row are also visible, solved sections faded out as if you were looking at them on the sides. it's extremely useful and makes solving gigantic levels a lot less painful. never thought I'd have the willpower or patience to do a 100x100 nonogram, too much of a good thing, no need for anything bigger than 50x50, but it was really fun with the way things work here.
audio is just a bunch of ambient noises (bird sounds, fire, wind, water, etc.), can turn them on/off and adjust their volumes individually. I didn't bother, just put on my own music. vsync and windowed mode available with a resizable window, and many color schemes, as mentioned above.
while most nonograms don't offer basic functionality and however promising they look, they're worthless, this one makes an awful first impression, then puts most other games to shame by offering everything that makes nonogramming fun. it's not perfect, but pretty damn close, and that's with the abysmal ui. if you're even remotely interested in one of the best puzzle types ever (and my personal favorite), take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the controls and you'll be set for a long time. many thumbs up! (and a few down for the ui, I mean come on...)
The game has really bad controls and the UI makes it hard to play
Very basic picross game, missing basic features you would expect. Does not save progress, so if you don't finish a puzzle, you have to start over each time. For the larger puzzles, it does not highlight the rows and columns so tracking the numbers is difficult.
I do love Picross - however, the UI in this game is pretty confusing. There are a ton of icons and no explanation/tool tips for anything. I'm reluctant to give a thumbs down but please devs, provide some descriptions/explanations.
Edit to add: Since posting this review a couple of days ago devs have indeed made improvements to the helper in the lower left of the screen and are working on clarifying options. Very nice!

Good puzzles, they're not too easy, but all are solvable. I've yet to come across any puzzle where you'd have to start guessing to solve it. The game doesn't lag or crash even with really large size puzzles, which I've found to be an issue with other games of this type. The zooming works well enough, although the numbers in the lower left corner are so small I can barely read them. The settings are rather difficult to understand, but when you do manage to figure them out you can customize the experience pretty well. I would wish that the devs make the settings options more clear and provide size options for the lower left numbers and hints thing.

This is the ultimate picross game. For a puzzle type that's practically as old as video games itself, this is definitely one of the best. The original was already pretty dang good. Now, I've found the perfect replacement for that version. I happily paid for this on sale and I would've been equally as happy paying full price. Hopefully with this review and many others it can get steam trading cards and what not. Overall, I'd recommend picking this up over any other picross game on Steam.
A good picross game. Other than being picross, this is the one of rarer games with lots of settings with no text. Yes, there are icons only, so there cannot be a language barrier for anyone.
The control are good, no issues noticed, although you are forced to draw in lines.
The UI size is too small on 1080p resolution, but you won't use UI too much.
The color schemes are all either too bright or too dark. No ability to properly customize colors makes it somewhat difficult to play.
Must buy if you are a picross fan.
It's cheaper than nintendo's picross and has more puzzles, so it's pretty cool.
Quick review of my first impressions!
I really like this game and there's been some improvements from the first edition but still I was left wanting more.
Even with the longer cons list I would recommend this for players that wants to do bigger than 25x25 grids. That's the biggest reason that I used to play the first edition and will continue with this one.

- Actual pictures/patterns which weren't in the 1.0 version
- Able to see the pattern with colours after compliting
- Easy controls
- Mechanics
Cons
- There's a guide for how to use the settings.. Yes you will need it
- UI is complicated even though it looks (or tries to) simple. Buttons with no clear indication what they do.
- Pictures/patterns should be simpler. Couldn't figure out what some of the patterns were even with colors
- For me I don't like the fact that there's odd number grid sizes like 23x29
- No continue button when completing grid
- Visuals and colors used in menu and in the game in general doesn't give me welcoming feeling
Awesome game. I love the new improvement from the last version.
Great game with great puzzles. I encountered a bug for this game upon purchasing, but the developer could not have been more helpful and indefatigable in tracing the issue and making sure I was fully satisfied with my product. I recommend this game and developer very highly. The customer service was unparalleled, that alone would make this a 5 star review, but it doesn't hurt that the game is great also. 5/5
A vast improvement over the original InfiniPicross, this game brings the classic puzzle to new heights. Infinitely replayable random puzzles, and greatly satisfying picture puzzles keep me coming back for more. Not to be missed for both Picross veterans and players new to the genre.
I love these kinds of puzzles. Picross is great on Nintendo DS, and I've played some similar games on my phone, but it's so much easier to play the larger puzzles on a larger screen. The random puzzles give endless replayability. I definitely reccomend it for anyone who enjoys logic puzzles.
I love the 2.0 version of this game. The newly introduced zooming and panning makes this a lot more usable and user friendly than in the first version. I even got the 100x100 achievement which sadly was kinda impossible in the first game due to its smallness. I also really like the non-randomness of the picture puzzles (some may call this the classic picross). It's very rewarding once solved, as well as the puzzle selection screen when you see all solved and unsolved puzzles.
Very solid and polished picross puzzler, well worth the money.
