A short little interactive fiction experience with drop-dead gorgeous painted graphics. From what I understand, it is a sort of epilogue to The Kite. I thought the first scene of this game was a bit of a letdown, but every other screen flowed smoothly for me. I enjoyed the art, music, tone, and general vibe of this brief encounter with bleakness.😊
Too short and bad game about a post-soviet alcoholic who likes to make a lot of morasltic speeches and ALWAYS decides to make what we don't want to. :
-You don't want to call to his ex, because u know it will be waste of time? Too bad, he will do it anyway and eventualy lose a coin
-You don't want to stop the robber, because u know it won't end well? Too bad, our hero decided he won't leave until he helps the cashier. After that they all regret that, but hey - we don't decide anything, we just find items and put them in right places, we have no free will.
-You can't pick or use items in advance, so you gonna walk back and forth until some scripts are triggered and u finally can take the bowl, for example.
And this annoying dream-maze. Oh, it was so annoying...
The art sometimes is good (only when they show that blondie), there's at least some voice acting, but damn... it's so much linear. If the developer Anatolii Koval didn't do that, the game would be okay
A short game that deals with human nature and a person trying to do something to set things right. The art style is great with a hand drawn look and music fits what is going on. The game is really short, but if your willing to live with that, it's something you can spend some time playing for it's story.
another game that you guys need to stay away.
Very good point and click game, low price, don't hesitate.
Actually I'm confused after playing the game. This is a good visual novel. But it is so short that I didn't figure out what does it want to tell. That makes me feel this story is not completed. And some puzzles are very meaningless for I think there could be better solutions. I didn't feel embarrassed until "I" planed to cut off the power. "I" just walk by the cashier and he seems to be blind which makes me feel unrealistic. Sometimes you need to talk to the people then "I" could know the following plan. I think this makes sense. Because the player totally know and is able to infer what will happen, while "I" don't know. But what makes me more confused is "I" decided to take the place of the girl into jail for redeem myself. I don't think so. In a short word, this is a confusing game.
Not worth your money. Very small game with just 4 locations and no puzzles.
repentant is set 3 years after the happenings in little kite, and features the least likable character, drunk hubby oliver, as its protagonist. well, it's ex-hubby now.
the entire thing takes place in a mini market, it's similarly dark and short (2 hours tops), but voiced now. not very well, but there you go. at least there's more punctuation in this one, though subtitles don't always match the voiceovers, which is always annoying. some of the puzzles are pretty convoluted as well, and dialog in the labyrinthine dream sequence (not too bad) isn't voiced for some reason.
the unity launcher provides resolution options and windowed mode, there are separate volume settings and a few languages. still no manual saving, but autosaves happen frequently enough in such a short game, and they're all separate saves, so they double as chapter select afterwards. the most baffling design decision was putting a limit on using the hotspot indicator. why would you do that?
it's not bad overall, but definitely not something to buy at full price and best to play after little kite, though it stands on its own well enough.
nice, but short followup to Little Kite. You need to play that game first, to get the full story
I enjoyed this game it was short and sweet but to use an analogy, id compare it to a donner kebab rather than a gastro meal, meaning you felt satisfied for the price you paid. The graphics were beautiful, the voice acting id say was a bit wooden and the puzzles put you in mid of a sort of hidden object/point and click, however they did make sense. I wont spoil the game by going into too much detail but for me the storyline was good, well executed and run well.
Would i recommend this game, yes if you want something to get your teeth into.
Eh yeah. I dig it but suggest getting it on sale.
Not worth the money. I bought it on sale but still feel it was to much for this game. It's extremely short and pretty vacuous, so would not recommend it.
I start to play this game and really enjoy the story and art!
GOOD game, but sadly I think price is too much for this game
Upd. Complete the game, the game is quite short, but art and music is still amazing
I hope developer will make next part of this game
I love games like this, where the main focus is on the plot. Some puzzles seemed a little illogical to me, but in general, the impressions are like after watching a movie.
Repentant is a graphically very appealing game. It is not very long (1-2h playtime) but the story is interesting and the puzzles of medium difficulty. There is pixelhunt but I don't mind that very much. The only downside I see in the inventory items not having any label which could be confusing when you return later to the game. I didn't play Little Kite before, now I will definitely also play that one.
I was expecting more.....much too short for the price.
If nymn reads this, chat von ZULUL
I do not reccomend this game. Even if you buy it on sale, it's not worth the price.
Pros-
1. The art is the only thing I liked about this game. The environments are pretty well drawn and are what initially enticed me to buy the game. Even so, there's places where the characters are drawn in awkward-looking positions and for me, it breaks the immersion.
Cons-
1. The price. This game is 7 dollars US. It's not worth even three dollars as an experience. Here's why:
2. The dialogue is stilted and deadpan. I'm not sure if it's due to the inexperience of the actors or the translation of the script, but no one in this game seems to completely sell their emotions in any scene. Christina's character is the only one which comes even close.
3. There is pixel-hunting in this game.
4. The solution to any and every puzzle is finnicky. Some actions are obvious, like cutting the straps to the barrels, but we're not permitted to do so until the game tells us to do it. There are other instances in which this happens, where we need to prompt a spoken piece of dialogue. It basically becomes an exercise in trying every item on every interaction before moving on. If they're not obvious and blocked off, then they make little sense.
5. One more problem with puzzles, there is a puzzle near at the end which nessecitates the use of an object mentioned in the first ten minutes. It looks identical to everything else in the room and if I had not specifically made note of it, I would have been stuck on this dumb solution.
6. The story in general. Oliver's problems are predictable and handled badly. His need to call his wife, during a robbery and then an assault, is just ridiculous. He even says he could call his business associate/crime buddy to stop this problem. His actions with the cashier are cringe-worthy. The phone call in the beginning implies Oliver is a criminal, we don't need him to tell us he is, and apart from some behavioral problems, he never comes across to the audience as the lost cause the game wants him to be. The plot here is too irrational to be taken seriously. Why have the sexual assault plot point at all when it affects nothing? It's tasteless and it was not presented in a respectful way. Overall, the story just tells us that... crime and alcholism is bad? Oliver never gets help for his addictive problems and Oliver's covering up the murder is presented as just for his guilt and actions. The plot overall, is just a mess.
7. The dream sequence lags constantly and has no reason to do so.
8. The audio mixing sometimes covers over spoken dialogue, even on default settings.
9. There is no flavor text on items in your inventory, if you ever needed to get up from this game and forgot what all of them were, you would not be able to determine what some of them actually are.
10. Lastly, length. I spent 2 hours with this game. If I had not had to fight the walking speed and the event triggering-dialogue, I would have completed this game in one.
If you value your time, don't buy this game. It is too serious and poorly handled for it to be anything other than a money sink.
Honestly, this was disappointing. One location, consisting of four screens, and one other location where we only walk around, and that's the whole game.
Since the main location is a grocery store, the graphics don't get a chance to shine, never rising to Little Kite's level.
Some puzzles in LK were very well-designed and cleverly integrated into the events, not just serving as roadblocks. Repentant has some of the most contrived puzzles ever.
There are issues with how those puzzles are implemented too. I tried to open the locked door, which did nothing. Turns out I had to do it later, when trying to open it causes a response. Just clicking on an object (an empty bottle) does nothing, and there is no indication that something else is required; instead, we're expected to use an item from the inventory on that object, then the object gets taken.
The location where we walk around has very choppy scrolling, LK had exactly the same issue, and it hasn't been fixed.
The writing is also way below the level of LK. LK's story was simple but serviceable. Repentant is preposterous. And the actors are obviously struggling with their lines, because people do not say things like "She was always smiling, with her naive and childlike optimism."
There are many point and click games, but none are very realistic dealing with real life issues. Until now. Obviously some of the events wouldnt happen on a normal day but in this game you can kiinda understand the scenario a character is in. I recommend this game. I had a great experience. I recommend you check it out. here is my first 15 min gameplay of it.
