Описание

Burden of Proof is a hybrid genre game that combines elements from third person exploration games with a Visual Novel presentation. Inspired by works such as Ace Attorney and Danganronpa, Burden of Proof offers a fresh take on the courtroom drama by allowing you to explore the crime scene in 3D. Understanding the layout and details of the crime scene will determine whether you can complete your case in the courtroom, and whether you will succeed in this new adventure!

Crimes have been running rampant in this city, and the cases are piling up. As the legendary attorney Conrad Cross, you'll be tasked with exploring the crime scenes and tracking down leads as you uncover the mystery behind a series of murders that are somehow connected. Ominous organizations, spies, and rebel groups are all after a seemingly harmless piece of computer hardware that holds a deadly secret. As the situation develops, you'll have to use your skills in logic and reasoning to outwit the criminals who want to escape your grasp of justice.

The burden is on you to present what you've learned in the courtroom, and to counter your opponent's statements with smart remarks. The Judge has acquired Counselors who have a say in the verdict, each with their own personalities. To succeed, you must not only convince the Judge, but these new Counselors as well! Cross-examinations are vital to drawing the truth out from witnesses, and your evidence is key to developing the court's understanding of the crimes you face. However, the culprit won't always go quietly. In moments of panic, you must shoot down faulty reasoning with contradictory evidence in order to bring the Counselors and the Judge to your side. You have the power to choose whether or not to object when a controversial statement is made in the courtroom, and your choice could either help or harm your case. Choose wisely, and demonstrate your understanding to the court in order to get the verdict in your favor!

  • Complete challenging puzzles in the courtroom that test your deduction skills
  • Play as both a prosecutor & a defense attorney
  • Choose when to "object" and when to remain silent
  • Face a variety of opponents with unique strategies and personalities
  • Explore the crime scene in full 3D
  • Branching paths that allow you tackle the case how you want
  • Duel your opponent in a series of rapid-fire questions regarding the case
  • Demonstrate key mechanics of the crime to the court
  • Full Visual Novel experience with over 15 hours of story
  • Cross-examine important witnesses & discover the true culprit
  • 4k screen support & runs at any framerate

There's something really charming about this game; the graphics are simple and adorably nostalgic, the characters have little funny and/or cute quirks about them, and the game is self-aware (I really enjoy finding the little hidden dialogues and easter eggs sprinkled throughout). I'm not much of a gamer, and maybe that makes my opinion baseless to some. But truly, from the bottom of my heart, I think this game (and the developer) deserves more recognition. The fact that this game has been made by one extremely passionate person is enough of a reason to give it some praise, but I also believe that Burden of Proof is just a delicious bite of what the developer can really accomplish with a little more time, money, and possibly some more help. And that's why I'm also excited for the sequel to come out!!

Give Burden of Proof a try; if you're looking for an alternate approach to the Phoenix Wright series/courtroom dramas and want that similar ~charm~, give this game a shot! The emphasis is not on mind-blowing graphics and extremely complex storylines; it's on telling a story that's both thought provoking and enjoyable :)

anyway Cross is my zaddy, PERIOD.

I feel bad for not recommending this game, but there are issues that showed up in case 1 that make me want to not give the rest of the game a shot.

The first reason is the graphics. I don’t need 4K super polished models. I like N64-looking games, but they have an appealing factor. This game just looks bad and doesn’t do anything to hide it. There’s a wide shot early in the game where you see so much of the city, but it looks bland, empty, and lifeless. Character poses look awkward and unfinished, with very little style to them. Characters have the most uninspired designs I’ve seen in an Ace Attorney-like game, with gray muted colors everywhere. I’m fine with low budget games, but low budget doesn’t mean it should be boring to look at. That said, I could overlook it if the writing was amazing.

I only played Case 1, but the writing was at best fine, but at worst, bland and disappointing. This is because the characters are bland or annoying. The first witness, Rebecca, just keeps saying she’s late for everything, but no reason is given. She just says it all the time, and it wasn’t funny the first time, and stops making sense. The culprit is just a cocky jerk, which is fine, but lacks anything else. I can’t even remember their reason for the murder, and I’m writing this review after finishing the case. And finally, the protagonist is just bland without any of the charm or wit to carry the case. I know it’s only case 1, but it left me unimpressed. I did like the mystery on paper, but a mystery needs characters you enjoy watching to be enjoyable, and Case 1 didn’t provide them.

Credit where it’s due, the gameplay is fine. It’s basically Ace Attorney without pressing witnesses. Nothing to complain about. I think the puzzles were fine. But gameplay only works if the rest of the game works, which, for me, doesn’t. I don’t need case 1 to be perfect, I need it to make me want to keep playing the rest of the game, and it didn’t.

Burden of Proof is a really enjoyable game that can be perceived as a marvelous homage to Ace Attorney.

The gameplay and style are similar to those in Ace Attorney so that fans can be delighted should they enjoy such elements.

The story was quite a surprise as I found each case to be well written, accompanied by a coherent main plot. However, there are a few flaws in terms of rhythm or forced meta comments but in general the game is excellent story-wise. Especially since it should be noted that it was developed by a small team and it is rather rare to find such amazing stories by ultra small teams.

The graphics are obviously not the most awesome ones to find yet they developed a certain sense of fascination in me for this style since some textures were well applied.

The music has definitely a certain charm where the gravity of the scenes is represented by the music such it has been done in Ace Attorney. Furthermore, one of my favorite part of the game is that certain characters receive a distinct music track which enhances the aura that they project. Another well applied element by the developers.

Sometimes when discussing the pros and cons of a game one tends to keep in mind the magnitude of the developers' team which can influence the reviewer's choice whether to recommend the game or not. This is the case for this review but the game was so good that I sometimes forgot that it was made by an independent developper. I really had a great time playing this game and I find that it is an amazing tribute to Ace Attorney where the developers have shown a great deal of creativity.

A Conrad Crossover - "Objection! The Case of the Underrated Game!"

Phoenix Wright: (pointing dramatically) Your Honor, I would like to present my evidence, Exhibit A, the game "Burden of Proof."

Miles Edgeworth: (raising an eyebrow) "Burden of Proof"? I must admit, I haven't heard much about this game.

Phoenix Wright: (smiling) Exactly, Edgeworth! It's an underrated gem, a solo project that's been flying under the radar.

Maya Fey: (nodding) I've played it, and it's got a lot of charm. The characters are so relatable!

Apollo Justice: (leaning in) I concur, Mr. Wright. "Burden of Proof" has a unique storyline and memorable characters. It's a game with great potential.

Franziska von Karma: (cracking her whip) Potential? Potential means nothing without evidence! What makes this game so splendid?

Phoenix Wright: (presenting a game trailer) Your Honor, if you take a look at the trailer, you'll see that "Burden of Proof" has all the elements of a great legal drama. Intriguing cases, well-written dialogues, and a protagonist you can root for.

Miles Edgeworth: (watching the trailer) I must admit, it does look promising. A solo project with this much effort put into it deserves recognition.

Apollo Justice: (nodding) And it's not just about the potential. The game has heart, Your Honor. It's evident that the creator poured their passion into it.

Maya Fey: (smiling) Plus, the soundtrack is amazing! It really sets the mood for each case.

Judge: (stroking his chin) I must say, it's compelling evidence. "Burden of Proof" may be an underrated gem.

Franziska von Karma: (grumbling) Very well, I suppose I shall reserve my whip for now.

Phoenix Wright: (smirking) Thank you, Your Honor. "Burden of Proof" may be on trial today, but I believe it's proven its worth as a splendid little solo project that deserves more attention!

Judge: (bangs his gavel) The court acknowledges the game's potential and charm. Case closed!

Explosive Justice: Torgue & T’s Wild Courtroom Adventure! 💥⚖️

[Scene: Mr. Torgue and Mr. T sit in a dimly lit room with a massive screen, controllers in hand. The game "Burden of Proof" is on the screen, and intense music is playing.]

Mr. Torgue: (Flexing his muscles) Hey, you badass gamers out there! It's time for an EXPLOOOOSIVE review of Burden of Proof! I'm Mr. Torgue, and this is my good buddy, Mr. T!

Mr. T: (With a nod) I pity the fool who doesn't enjoy a good courtroom drama! (Adjusts his signature chains)

Mr. Torgue: (Slamming his fist on the table) That's right! This game combines two of the most epic things in the world - explosions and justice! 🧨⚖️

Mr. T: (Smirking) Explosive justice, indeed! And you get to investigate crime scenes in 3D! It’s like if a detective movie and a theme park ride had a baby—thrilling and slightly nauseating! 🎢🔍

Mr. Torgue: (Enthusiastically) And explosions are all about precision, right? Just like presenting evidence in court! Precision, baby! 💣📚

Mr. T: (Nods) True, true. The courtroom sections? I pity the fool who tries to outsmart us! It’s like facing off against a villain in a cheap action flick! 📚🤨

Mr. Torgue: (Laughs) Exactly! And you get to choose when to "object." It's like, "OBJECTION! Your argument is as weak as a salad with no bacon!" 🥓💥

Mr. T: (Grinning) A salad with no bacon? Now that’s a crime worth solving! I mean, who even does that? That’s just cruel!

Mr. Torgue: (Excitedly) And Mr. T, how 'bout you join me? We could be a tag team, like Mr. TNT! 💥💥💥

Mr. T: (Raises an eyebrow) Mr. TNT, huh? That does sound intriguing, but I’m all about those chains. Ain't nobody got more bling than me! (Clanks his chains)

Mr. Torgue: (Laughs) Fair enough! But seriously, folks, Burden of Proof has branching paths, like choosing between different flavors of EXPLOSIONS! 🌟🔥 You got your fiery blasts, your silent-but-deadly bombs, and the classic boom that wakes up the neighbors!

Mr. T: (Nods) The dueling opponents part, where you answer rapid-fire questions, is a real test of your skills, just like trying to remember your Wi-Fi password after a night of gaming! 💪🎤

Mr. Torgue: (Pounding his chest) And don't forget, Mr. T pities the fools who cross us in this game! We’ll bring ‘em to justice like a pizza delivery guy who’s an hour late! 💥⚖️

Mr. T: (Confidently) Justice will prevail, just like the A-Team! 🚁💥 You know, the only thing missing is a catchphrase for when we win a case.

Mr. Torgue: (Fist pumps) That’s right! In conclusion, Burden of Proof is like a high-octane action movie mixed with courtroom drama. It’s a blast, just like my EXPLOSIONS! 💣💥

Mr. T: (Nods) So, if you want justice, explosions, and a good time, pick up Burden of Proof. I ain't gettin' on no plane, but I am getting on this game! 🎮

Mr. Torgue: (Excited) And if you see Mr. T in the game, be sure to say hello, 'cause together, we're like a dynamite duo! We might even explode with laughter! 💥🚀

[They both high-five, and the screen fades out with their laughter and the sound of an explosion in the background, along with a random cat that somehow ended up in the shot, looking very confused.]

This game was... interesting.

First, unlike some silly people up on here, we need to establish what a review is: it's more than just liking or disliking a game, it's a critical way of seeing the game, especially based on its very intent. This game's intent is not to have great graphics, so please don't judge it solely on that.

With that out of the way...

This was quite the unique experience. An ace attorney game that felt very connected and trimmed all the fat off. In AA, there is a LOT of side banter, and the investigation can sometimes take forever... this game really trimmed the fat, which made the game feel a little better. I think that for an investigation based game, it's better for most of the mystery to be solved in the court; if solved before, you're in for a slog of a court, where you already know all the answer.

Even though I mentioned the models and all being off, the creator did do some jabs with it, with messages like "the dev hasn't done anything in that direction", which I thought were fun. It's good to be self-aware. And it's important for consumers to respect that not every game is gonna be a triple AAA in the graphics department. It had some quality animation as well, so the effort really needs to be noticed!

Overall, really fun characters. I enjoyed all of them. I want to kiss Double Daire. While the model may sometimes backstab the character's personalities, you'll still notice some effort there, with each character having nice unique poses and expressions. This is an aspect I really enjoyed.

The mysteries were quite interesting. By the end of the game, you're not even sure if you made the right decisions in all the chapters. But that... it goes into the final point, the ending.

Oh... boy. The ending. Big mixed feelings, but a lot of dislike for it. But me not enjoying that ending does not mean the game is bad. Spoilers ahead!

So, Cross ends up becoming a criminal, and sending an innocent person to jail. This really felt like a stab in the gut. This isn't like... Danganronpa's Perjury mechanic, where you lie to reach the truth. No, straight up, you get a character doing something fairly horrible, and hiding the truth, and coping about it. Not to mention that sword was never explained...

The ending was something I did feel was a little... rushed, maybe. But this doesn't tarnish the experience being pretty great.

Try it yourself. The ending may be a bit of a letdown, but it's not a badly written ending, but just a sour ending that may not resonate with everyone.

An indie game that wears its roots in Ace Attorney on its sleeve, Burden of Proof is an excellent adventure if you're willing to look past its rough models and animation. As an Ace Attorney fan that has been starved of new entries for years, it is always nice to see a competent copycat. While not as polished of a story, I was impressed by the developer's foresight in not punishing the player for pointing out an inconsistency slightly differently than the game "wants" you to do it. That is an issue in Ace Attorney games, but perhaps due to the shorter nature of these cases, the developer foresaw and avoided those pitfalls in every case I encountered.

I have played the game all the way through, and I really did enjoy it. the story was great and I liked how all of the cases were connected and had a common theme throughout the storyline.

as an ace attorney fan myself, I enjoyed the fact that you get to not only play as the defence lawyer, but on the very first case, you get to play as a prosecutor. to be honest with you, I really didn't see that coming.

another feature I liked was that you could investigate the crime scene in first person or third person mode. it made the experience feel more authentic.

there are other good points about this game that I liked too, but now I would like to get to the negatives.

my first issue with the game is the graphics. while I understand that this is a 3d game and that can and indeed does take a lot of work and time to make, I still feel as though more work should have been done to make the graphics more realistic with regard to proportions of the characters, but I am probably just nitpicking here.

some of the places on the game just seemed incomplete to me. also, outside of the Prosperity bank, there seemed to be an invisible wall blocking the way to the courtyard, and I had to go right to the edge of the curb to get to the bank courtyard.

#spoilers

what I really didn't like though was that Conrad, who is the protagonist of the game, had actually had to become a criminal in order to put a stop to Naile's organization and he had to break laws and even kill sarah to pin it on someone else.

to me, this was not only unlawful, but cowardly. the situation could have been resolved in other ways. that's my opinion anyway.

overall, I rate this game a 7 out of 10. its a good game. thanks for making it.

I am brutaly honest: Seeing those crude models and animations, I expected this to be a complete trash game and only bought it because I was desperately looking for a Ace Attourney like game. And boy, was I wrong, and happy about it. I can say in all confidence that this is a true gem.

Many characters are clearly inspired by characters of the Phoenix Wright series; there is your new Maya, Gumshoe, a combined Edgeworth and Mia, of course you, Phoenix Wright, and even a Iris Hawthorne. Fortuanately, they left out all the spiritual and supernatural stuff, which never felt right in a series about -- you know? -- evidence. Generally, the characters are still over the top, as they should be; but they toned them down a bit, so they are nicer and more reasonable than they are in Ace Attorney, which makes it much more enjoyable. Also, the court proceedings are much more civil and less frustrating, as the court doesn't just make up new rules and isn't so much biased against you, the defense. Also, much less outlandish moon logic is required.

Remember how frustrating the sections between trials were in Ace Attorney? Good thing they didn't repeat this error. You still have to look for evidence, but you cannot leave the area without finding all clues. You are not expected to revisit locations in a specific order to trigger events. Also, you are not barred from progressing because you fail to show some very specific piece of evidence to a specific witness, which often just turned into a trial-and-error process. The emphasise of this game is clearly towards the actual trials and visual story telling.

And about that story: It is seriously good! The story telling makes up for all the bad graphics. Yes, the plot is a bit outlandish -- how could it not be? But at least it is not completely unthinkable like the supernatural BS of Ace Attorney. It is touching and tragic and the author can clearly wright. I sincerely hope to see a BoP 2.

Disclaimer:Scroll down to the end to see a funny description of the game.

There's quite a lot i want to talk about with this game but i'll try to only speak about what i NEED to speak about, so lets start out with the minor things, ALSO I WANT TO STATE THAT I WISH STEAM HAD AN MAYBE OR A NEUTRAL RECOMMEND OPTION BECAUSE THAT'D FIT MY OPINION OF THIS PRODUCT BETTER.

Minor Pro
______
the music is surprisingly good, not really a bad track in here, nothing i'm going to remember out of the game mind you, but the music does a good job at setting the tone.

Minor Con
_______
the graphics aren't remotely good, thankfully graphics aren't super important, but i'm mentioning this because i'd love for this game to have looked better.

fair enough right? so lets talk about the bigger stuff about the game.

Major Pro
_______

The Trial Writing is fairly on point for such an genre, nothing felt like a leap of logic, i can't state enough that this game's Trial Writing is on par with an actual big name studio's and i feel like this is something that the developers should take pride in, but also seek to go even further with if they do another game like it.

Major Con
_______

notice how i said Trial Writing in the above mention? yeah that's because a lot of the non Court writing is kinda ridiculous, i feel like the biggest issue that this game suffers from is that its comedy aspects clash with when the game WANTS to be taken seriously. Instead of other big name company productions where they manage to strike a good balance of Drama and Humor, this game fails at that aspect, while sure the game can provide a chuckle and engross you in its story, it rarely manages to combine both for great effect.

I guess a better way to say the above is the Game's efforts of Comedy and Drama are like Water and Oil, they are fine on their own but they don't mix well together and this kept taking me OUT of the experience over and over again, any game that can't keep a player immersed, will be remembered less fondly than a game that can.

this might be the biggest issue with the game, i did enjoy my time playing it but in the future i'm going to be remembering this game for the wrong reasons due to this.

OVERALL
_______

I really enjoyed my time spent with the game when it wasn't taking me out of itself, i feel like with more polish this could've been a fantastic budget Ace Attorney, but as it is now its just alright, honestly i'm tempted to put this game into the "So Bad Its Good" category, sure i still had fun, but a product doesn't have to be good to find entertainment in it.

Would I recommend it? I have to give it a hard MAYBE, it all depends on how much your starved to play another game like Ace Attorney and such, which i admit i was pretty starved myself, the game is very much targeted for those kinds of people so you might want to check it out. But on the other hand, 15 dollars is far too much to buy this game for if you aren't a die-hard enthusiast, i bought it for like 5 dollars when it was on sale and felt like that was more than a fair price, i'd say i'd even go up to 8 or 10 dollars even, however due to how steam reviews only has "Yes and No" for recommendation i have to give it a soft "No, do not buy" unless your really thirsty for more games like it, if a sequel ever comes out i might check it out to see how much its improved.

And lastly here's that funny description i was mentioning.

This is some "what no pussy does to a MF" shit except in this case it's No Ace Attorney

This was fun. I have yet to play Ace Attorney but I found some of the remnants of Danganronpa in the game. The story is like a pulp fiction story. It is not perfect but it is fun and therefore likeable. The gameplay is fine. Graphics can not be a determining factor while playing this type of game. The story and drama are to be focused on and in that department this game is fine. The game was simple yet fun and not too over complicated. Worth a shot if you like detective, adventure, point and click type games. I would like to see more releases from these devs and more interesting games than this one. Not that this wasn't interesting but I think the devs have potential of making more fun and engaging game.

Okay, first things first, the graphics. You can tell by the screen shots what they are like and you get what you see.

As for the rest of the game, it's alright. Nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done if you need some off-brand Ace Attorney. There were only 2 or 3 times I ever felt truly stuck, and over all it wasn't too hard. There are some good twists and overall I had a good time.
As I said before, what you get what you see, so it's up to you to decide if you want to play this or not.

Great game. Very similar to Ace Attorney games, but also is different enough to be its own game. I'd recommend this to anybody who likes the Ace Attorney series. Also, the Ace Attorney references are great. (Looking at you, suspicious-looking nooks and crannies)

Doesn't even resemble real courtroom action or investigative work. Ridiculous leaps of logic, absurd storyline and idiotic characters. The interface is annoying and the screen shake is just stupid (at least it can be disabled in the options.) I finally got sick of the stupidity in the 2nd chapter and quit playing, a complete waste of $15.

The screen will shake after every finger snap/forehead smack, and the text scrolling is not only too slow, but the sound is very annoying. These may seem trivial, but they really keep me from enjoying the game. Please offer an option to remove text scrolling and the shaking screen; they literally give me a headache. I don't know if the game is worth playing or not; I can't continue playing it until these issues are patched.

Just posting this because the game deserves attention.
If you can look past the graphics and play it for the gameplay/ story its really good.

Extremely good.
In general, the assets are not of extremely high quality detail, which is completely reasonable considering the production of this game, which seems to paint a misleading picture of the game's quality in screenshots and trailers; I at least thought the game didn't suffer much from it. The plotting, characters and sounds are extremely well done, and the gameplay is generally very good too.
The exploration involves 3D movement, which I found very enjoyable, and I believe it justifies the use of 3D visuals even if they overall are required to be simpler than hyperrealistic AAA models that can be found in high production games.
All of the characters are memorable, and most of them are likable; I did think a couple of characters (one in case one, one in case two) seened a bit shallow and annoying, but it isn't much worse than the worst of the characters in Ace Attorney, or any unimportant character in Professor Layton. I really liked the main recurring characters in particular, which is good since that is where the characters should be best (although the assistant, while not bad, probably wasn't in the highest tier of characters that this game has).
There were a couple of minor things that I disliked about the system, though these are overshadowed by the general quality of the game, but they are probably worth mentioning here briefly. The lack of a skip text feature (as far as I saw) is a little annoying, though there aren't all that many situations where text will need to be reread. For a lot of scene changes, the cursor will be moved to the centre of the screen, but since the mouse is best to be used a fair amount anyway, it only requires the mouse to be moved slightly back to the original location. There are a few grammatical issues, though generally it is at least obvious as to what the meaning is. Also, the way to advance text with the mouse is only through clicking within the area around the arrow at the end of each line, so clicking elsewhere on the screen does not advance text (I personally just used the space bar to advance text instead anyway). And another, very minor "issue", is that I think the save files store a portion of the script or something, which is probably why the save and load features can take a few seconds to operate (from what I remember, it was still probably significantly under 5 seconds maximum, there are many similar games that have much longer save times), but it means that if one is stuck, they are discouraged from vastly abusing trial and error at a great speed, though still a lot faster than Ace Attorney or most such games.
Despite these, the plot is excellent. There were a very nice level of twists and turns to the plot, more than I would have expected. In the final cases, I began to not really remember everything that was happening in the case, but that was mainly due to how I spent some periods of time between playing; it shouldn't be an issue for everyone but the later ones do sometimes have quite a lot of plot points to them.
I unintentionally left the game idle at some times, so the amount of time it says I have played (31 hours) is a bit skewed, although the claim of "over 15 hours of story" in the description is certainly true.
The difficulty, I found, was of a very nice level, not too difficult but also not exceedingly easy, though there are quite a few plot points that may be predictable (though generally not to the point that predicting such an event equates to knowing for a fact that it will happen). However, there were a couple of cross examinations in the fifth case that took me a while to work out, and I'm pretty sure there won't be a full guide to the solutions yet, so for now at least, if you can't solve part of it, then you will either need to guess, ask someone else, or try really hard to work it out.
Overall, I really really enjoyed this game, I would highly recommend it (the price is a lot more than I would normally spend on a game, but I actually haven't ended up regretting it).

-FEELS JUST LIKE ACE ATTORNEY-
When I discovered a high school friend of mine posted a trailer for a 3D Phoenix Wright-esque game he was working on almost single-handedly, I couldn't believe it. One year and change later, having played through his work to the end, I can say with confidence that this is one of the Must-Play hidden gems of Steam.

The trials give players who played Ace Attorney that sense of familiarity of piecing together complex truths seemingly story-boarded by one of Capcom's own. The mysteries of each case are fleshed out precicely enough that the player feels as if they're really solving in-depth cases without being held by the hand. The characters are memorable with a dash of witty humor that never feels forced. For a game practically programed and rendered by one individual, the models and animations are more detailed and fluid than your average stilted 3D indie game.

You want to know what the best part about a Phoenix Wright tribute game is? T H E M U S I C

So much devotion has gone into every aspect of Burden of Proof that I can say this is a real game, with 10+ hours of multi-mystery that deserves to be played and shared by those who love a good story. Personally, I hope many people find out about it and see for themselves a game made by someone willing to devote himself to the bone to create what might just be a masterpiece.

From what I've seen so far, Burden of Proof is a very well made game akin to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. It has some kinks, but generally is a great time and I've really had a blast playing it. If you're a fan of the attorney or detective genre of games, I recommend this game.
