Ryan George Style Pitch Meeting
Publisher: So, you have a yuri visual novel for me?
Game Designer: Yes, sir, I do!
Publisher: Alright, hit me with it.
Game Designer: Okay, so the game is called The Wilting Amaranth. It's set in a mysterious tower where you play as a character trapped with two witches. They’re not friendly, but they’re also not not friendly? It's complicated.
Publisher: Ooooh, a tower? Super atmospheric!
Game Designer: Exactly! One witch is cold and distant, and the other is a little snarky, but in that "I secretly care" way. There’s romance, emotional tension, and a lot of unclear boundaries.
Publisher: Very considerate! So, what’s the gameplay?
Game Designer: It’s your classic visual novel. You make choices, and the witches are kind of mean... like, they’ll say things like, “I didn’t think you’d survive that... surprisingly competent,” and you’ll be like, “Did I just get insulted or complimented?”
Publisher: Oh my god. So they’re like, emotionally manipulative?
Game Designer: Oh, subtle, but yes! Nothing too in-your-face, but you’ll definitely question your life choices by the end. There’s also potion brewing, and maybe a cat gets involved, but not like in a traumatic way—more like a mysterious way.
Publisher: What? So a mysterious cat?
Game Designer: Yeah, but it’s mysterious in the sense that it shows up at random, doesn't do much, but you get the sense it’s probably plot relevant somehow.
Publisher: Wow wow wow. Wow. 13 endings? That’s tight. So the witches just ruin your life, but, like, nicely?
Game Designer: Exactly! It's all about subtle manipulation, bad decisions, and maybe some death... but not directly. We’re talking more like, “Oops, that happened,” and then it’s just awkward silence.
Publisher: Very considerate! So, is the player actually supposed to enjoy all of this?
Game Designer: Oh, totally! It's like that feeling when you’re gently drowning in emotional chaos. Super fun!
Publisher: What’s the tone? Is it tragic or more comedic?
Game Designer: It’s like a weird blend of tragic comedy, imagine if your therapy session turned into a romantic drama... but, like, in a tower, with witches, and a mysterious cat. I mean, it's mostly tragic, but there’s also this awkward humor where you just don’t know if you’re supposed to laugh or cry.
Publisher: A cat? That’s a bold move.
Game Designer: Yeah, right? It just sits there, watching you fail... which somehow makes everything feel worse, but also, kind of... better?
Publisher: Wow. But what’s the gameplay? More potion mixing? More cat-staring?
Game Designer: Absolutely! The potion mixing is like a weirdly tense cooking show, but you never know if you’re actually making a healing potion or some weird curse that will ruin your life forever. You get no feedback, just chaos.
Publisher: Very considerate! And the witches, are they super mean, or just like, “I guess you can exist near me”?
Game Designer: Oh, they’re mean, but in a subtle, backhanded way. One witch might be like, “You did that... surprisingly well,” and you’re like, “Wait, was that a compliment? Was that... an insult?” They’ll never fully tell you. It’s just... this slow descent into madness.
Publisher: I’m intrigued. But what happens when you make the wrong choice?
Game Designer: You get one of the 13 endings, which range from “Oops, you’re stuck in the tower forever” to “Oh hey, a witch just straight up poisoned you,” but all of them involve feeling bad and wondering why you made that choice. It’s an emotional rollercoaster.
Publisher: Very considerate! So, can we throw in a mini-game? Like, maybe a witchy dance-off or a spells and cooking challenge?
Game Designer: Oh, absolutely! You’ll have a baking simulator where you try to bake potions, but nothing comes out right. Or maybe you accidentally brew a potion that makes you more emotionally unstable. And the witches? They’ll just laugh at you.
Publisher: I love it. It’s like The Witcher, but with more emotional manipulation and slightly less sword fighting.
Game Designer: Exactly! Less combat, more soul-crushing decisions.
Publisher: I’m all in. So, are we putting in a cat petting system too? Or is that just implied?
Game Designer: Oh, the cat’s a concept, not a pet. But, like, you can imagine petting it... while everything around you burns. Metaphorically. It’s super artsy.
Publisher: Wow wow wow. Wow. 13 endings, a mysterious cat, a baking simulator, and emotional chaos. Genius!
Game Designer: It’s everything you didn’t know you needed. And more.
Publisher: Well, okay then, let’s put it on Steam! Great job.
Game Designer: Awesome! It’s a complicated mess, but it’s a good mess.
Publisher: Alright, I’ll be emotionally damaged in no time!

Forever Dream of the Witch
So long in this cold tower,
Through spells and awkward stares,
Alone with Isolde's glare,
(Where Priya's plotting dares)
How do I know which witch is which?
This one’s casting hexes near,
The only thing I hear,
(She's brewing potions here!)
This tower's cursed,
Between the secrets and the dark,
Exiled to a place so stark.
Reignite the heart with me,
Is it you or just your tea?
Will you stop being so mean to me?
Woah-ah-ah-ah-ah!
Reignite the heart with me,
Is it you that I will see?
In your potions, I find no peace,
Forever dream of the witch's lease,
Forever dream!
We'll forever dream.
Transcending weird potions,
And a long-forgotten rhyme,
Awakening from a curse so prime!
This tower's cursed,
Between the secrets and the dark,
Exiled to a place so stark.
Reignite the heart with me,
Is it you or just your tea?
Will you stop being so mean to me?
Woah-ah-ah-ah-ah!
Reignite the heart with me,
Is it you that I will see?
In your potions, I find no peace,
Forever dream of the witch's lease.
(Forever)
So long in this cold tower,
This witch who's kinda rude,
The only thing I see…
I reach for love,
Through broken spells and sass,
Trying to break free from this,
But nothing works, alas!
Nothing works, alas!
Reignite the heart with me,
Is it you or just your tea?
Will you stop being so mean to me?
Woah-ah-ah-ah-ah!
Reignite the heart with me,
Is it you that I will see?
In your potions, I find no peace,
Forever dream of the witch's lease,
Forever dream!

The Wilting Amaranth: A Poem
In a tower where shadows whisper low,
Two witches wait, their hearts half-glow.
One cold and distant, the other sharp and sly,
Both hiding truths beneath their watchful eye.
The air hums thick with magic's spell,
Potion-brewed chaos, where secrets dwell.
A cat’s silent gaze, watching from afar,
Its presence a riddle beneath the stars.
They tease with words, soft yet cruel,
Their compliments a veil, a dangerous duel.
You wonder if love could ever exist,
In a dance so fragile, in a world like this.
The witches, they twist, they pull, they push,
Each choice a thorn in the silent hush.
Is this love, or just a game they play?
In this tower, will you lose or stay?
A bond forms slowly, through laughter and silence,
In every soft glance, in the air’s defiance.
You trust, you doubt, you fall, you rise,
And in their eyes, you search for your prize.
Healing comes in moments, quiet and small,
In the weight of the touch, the rise and the fall.
A heart unravels in the tenderest way,
As the witches’ words lead you astray.
In the stillness, the tower becomes your home,
A place where love, like a flower, can grow.
The Wilting Amaranth whispers so true,
That healing begins when you face what you knew.
The journey is slow, but love can be found,
In every choice, in every sound.
In their care, both cruel and sweet,
You find a place where broken hearts meet.
And in the end, what’s left to say?
Love’s healing touch, where shadows fade away.
Through all the twists, the pain, the strain,
You’ll find yourself whole, again.
Never thought a short Visual Novel would make me this happy, I'm glad that I bought this Game.
The dialogue for Priya is really.... I mean, the first thing you tell the dark skinned character is "why don't you speak like a woman should" it just comes off as sus my dude.
A quite short novel, but still interesting.
SPOILER:
I started Priya's route and found out later that she was a hypocrite and I was like "fuck that bitch!"
Giving this game a go was actually pretty worthwhile. You may call the graphics crude, at some point merely more than a sketch (but the cute chibi illustrations make up for it), and the music had some kinda repetitive tones to it. BUT! This game has a HUGE amount of endings and you'll never quite know which path you're on since betrayal and unforeseen events happen at every corner.
The two non-player characters are certainly uniquely designed and have depth to them which immensely changes depending on your choices. At the end, you'll probably hate Priya and have fallen madly in love with Isolde, and I got the hunch that's what the designers tried to lead you towards. Just be advised that you're not going to encouter lots of actual romance in this game; it rather excels in depicting angsty, socially troublesome behavior and trying to cope with that. The way in which the protagonists are uncertain about pretty much every feeling they have is a fresh take on the genre.
The Wilting Amaranth won't be the brightest star in your collection, but I believe most fans of our beloved yuri genre will be able to enjoy this cute little game.
I regret buying this there are a lot of black screens, not really adult, more pg 16 rating, Very disappointing over all, however the art work was very good for those who enjoy this type of stuff. 2 out of 5 stars.
A princess gets trapped in a tower with a witch and her prisoner. That's pretty much the whole plot. The choices you make decide if you end up with the witch or the prisoner (or neither).
Before The Wilting Amaranth I played Ne no Kami, which has a boring story and bad voice acting. The Wilting Amaranth has no story and no voice acting. which I guess is preferable?
The two 18+ scenes were fine, but nothing special.
If you're just looking for some yuri entertainment to keep your entertained for a couple of hours you could do worse than The Wilting Amaranth (like Ne no Kami). It's not good enough to give it a thumbs up, but it might be worth picking it up during a sale if you're a huge fan of the genre.
Loved this Yuri VN Game It was Good First off You can write your name in it Well Any Name haha Second some girl Got Locked in cell and you had to get her out Witch Cast spell on you You can burn the Witch and Many other things Mostly Yuri though I mean who doesnt LOVE Yuri right haha still Short easy Game And it was nice ^^ Def recc it to People Well Who Love yuri.
Worth the price asked.
The endings provided were each unique and somewhat fulfilling.
Of course its a short game with a completion time of no more than 5 hours but, at least its enjoyable.
So yeah, if you've got a couple $$ lying around and you're bored I recommend giving it a shot.
Like devs said, it took me 5h to get all endings.
PROS:
- price
- yuri
- unexpected endings for sure
- Isolde's route sex scenes were VERY good written (Priya's were not my thing so maybe that's why I didn't really enjoyed them)
- for some people can be important so: game is uncensored
Little cons:
- backgrounds were little bland, even if action took place in the tower some rooms could be more colorful (library) or detailed (kitchen, dinning room)
- it's kinda sad that we weren't able to see characters in other poses
Bonus:
Everytime I got Priya's ending I was scared even more XD
~~Check my curator's page!~~
I can not recommend this.
This VN would be better if the only characters were the player-character and the witch Isolde. Isolde is an adorable character who is likable and shows what a life of persecution does to someone who doesn't at all deserve it. Her half of the game is spent getting to know someone socially awkward that just wants a friend.
The other character spends the other half of the VN murdering her.
I like the art. I like the music. I like the writing. I really like Isolde.
I hate this game.
Introduction
The Wilting Amaranth is a short anime visual novel with adult themes and a fantasy setting. It's the only game that I've played from the developers, Reine Works, but they have a few others on Steam already.
This yuri story concerns a beautiful young witch living in a tower and her two female guests, one there of her own volition and the other by the witch's hand, and the love triangle that is formed by their actions. There's a free, but entirely optional, adult DLC available from the Steam store page. I've only played the game with this DLC installed, so can't comment on the "all-ages" content specifically, but with the DLC the story includes a number of erotic scenes, each with non-censored CG images and rather explicit writing.
Story and Writing
The Wilting Amaranth's story is very short and told from the point of view of Amarante, a young woman who is magically plucked from her upcoming marriage preparations and finds herself in a small bedroom atop a strange tower. She soon meets Isolde, a witch and the owner of the tower, and Priya, a prisoner there. There are two core paths, one focusing on Priya and the other on Isolde, but the game includes plenty of decision points and about a dozen endings, both good and bad, so there's a fair bit of variation. The save and skip systems make it easy to replay from the different decision points, but I'd expect a reasonably literate person to be able to get through all of the game's offerings in two to four hours.
I'm quite impressed by most of the writing in the game; it's much better than most indie games I've played recently and better than many visual novels I've read. The sex scenes are also written better than those of many more mainstream adult visual novels; I didn't find them cringe-worthy at all, tthough they're more explicitly raunchy and less endearing than those in Highway Blossoms. There are a few errors here and there, though, as well as at least one dangling participle (oo-er!). There's also a consistent grammatical error in the writer's (or perhaps writers') misunderstanding of the difference between the intransitive verb, "to lie", and the transitive verb, "to lay". While this may seem minor, even in a game genre in which the writing plays a significant role, I found it particularly glaring because the rest of the prose was so well written.
Presentation
The game is made using the Ren'Py engine and if you've played any other visual novels in the last few years then the interface is exactly what you'd expect: large, occasionally animated 2D "paper-doll" anime sprites over static backgrounds, with the story presented through the text box at the bottom. Options include text speed, skip settings, a history, multiple quick- and regular saves, etc. There's also a small CG gallery that unlocks as you play, with the adult DLC including a second, even smaller one. I don't think Underwear Mode is a Ren'Py standard option, though. :D
Graphics are cartoon-like with only a small number of backgrounds, each of which could easily have featured in a Saturday morning cartoon years ago. That's not to say they're bad -- they're definitely not -- but rather that the style is a fairly simple one. The character art style is similarly simple, but quite attractive for the most part. It's a bit of a shame that there are so few poses and expressions, though, especially considering there are only three characters.
CG images maintain the same style and are mostly good, fitting the story well, but I thought a couple of the images showing Amarante in her underwear didn't quite look quite right. I believe the adult patch adds only retouched versions of some of the images from the all-ages version: removing underwear and that sort of thing.
I enjoyed the in-game music, though I think it's only a couple of tracks played over and over. The end-game music track was far too "heavy" for my liking, though, and didn't seem to fit the game at all. Sound effects are minimal, but that's pretty normal for the genre. I'm sad to say there are no voices.
The game also includes Steam Achievements (mostly hidden, but there's a guide already) and Trading Cards.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
+ Simple, but mostly lovely art
+ Free adult DLC / patch
+ Main music is nice
Cons:
- A few errors in the text
- End game music is a bit too 'heavy'
Verdict
The Wilting Amaranth is a good yuri visual novel with endearing characters; simple, but lovely art; mostly excellent writing; and a free adult patch available easily through Steam. Though the game is rather short, even with its many choices and endings, it's also priced about right for the content.

This is a nice little visual novel with yuri romances. There are two routes you can go on, which one of the first choices will decide the path you go down. From there, there are good endings and bad endings. With the free patch, those good endings include a bit of... explicit action.
Fully recommend.
Oh huh? I never wrote a review for this yet? Coulda swore 100% long time ago I did, lols I remember this game kinda now, oh right I never ever did get to have a relationship with the prisoner girl, the one that is kissing in the game thumbnail lols, cuz I ran into half a dozen ways she kills me and I lost interest in her the 1st time she killed me cuz I trusted her for an escape, actually I got along very well with the witch cuz we are both witches so it made more sense to play a few ways on that path, but naw I don't think the thumbnail pic here is possible cuz I have gave it a try and died many ways to the prisoner lols! But good game for sure and Recommend for sure! Now I hope I'm not going crazy and this review stays up lols cuz I was 100% certain I made a good review here, I haven't played this in awhile so just off of memory so kinda sorry I'm foggy and hazy on this one but I will play this game withing the running week for sure at latest 21st so yeah I will update then cheers!
I do not get much internet access so I often play games on Steam in offline mode. This tends to make the amount of time I played a game on Steam wrong. This is a complete play through review.
This is a short story that takes fairy tale elements and adds some female relationships to the equation.
Cons:
They kind of ruin one of the characters roles in the story very early on with her endings. Each girl has different endings and one of them you start to hate more and more as you advance further into her story. They could have made some of the bad endings for her later on to allow the readers to believe that their friendship could actually blossom. This also kind of makes it so that you really do not get any good endings with this character and you have to play the other girls story to actually get a good enough ending.
This seems like a small project that this group was trying out and I think they did a decent job with it. It is kind of hard to really say bad things about new companies starting off with smaller projects. They are limited in their supplies and fund and pretty much have to work with what they have. So do not expect a lot of music choices, changes in scenery or voice acting. Yet these things should not deter readers from trying this title out.
Pros:
I actually really like the character design and the few scenery designs. Even the text box and menu kind of have an old kind of rustic feeling to it. These added touches really help the reader feel like they are in the story and playing one of the roles of the characters. While there are a few moments of partial nudity, they do have a tasteful appeal to them and do not cross to many boundaries. Though the options saw “All Age Gallery” and these scenes are posted in that gallery. I think they may need to fix that. Yes I know there is an adult version of the game, but some parents would not be happy to have their kids seeing these partial nudity scenes.
The story is actually decent and kind of reverses the roles of the good and bad guys in fairy tales. They make the witch a well-liked character and make her the good side to the story, while the rogue hero has been made devious, hurtful and bad. These changes up what most people think of when they read a children’s book, and give a new perspective on the idea of good and bad. The witch pretty much gets the good endings, if you can call some of them that, and makes people think that not everyone different can be a bad person.
This was a fairly enjoyable short read that made me think differently about how stories could be told. As a small project it is not going to be the best and will have flaws, but it does give a stepping stone for future projects from this group. I would gladly recommend for the yuri lover out there and possible for some people who want to just try out something different.
A hidden tower, a solitary witch, a gallant thief, and an innocent princess, is this the beginning of a fairy tale or a hot yuri story? ^^
It is with this premise that begins our history, accompanying the young Princess Amarante, an innocent but persistent princess, who lived quietly in her castle until without any warning to be invoked for the tower of the witch Isolde, a beautiful witch who due to the fear of others ended up isolating herself from the world, making it a bit difficult to relate to her at first, but over time she is opening up to the young princess. Completing the trio we have the thief Priya, who tried to steal something from the tower but was not very lucky and was caught by the witch, yet nothing can take away his good mood and his mania to be saying romantic words to the princess. ^^
The game has a rather short story for a VN, only 3 to 5 hours depending on your reading speed and also if you want to see all the endings. Speaking about the endings, the story has a lot of them, there are 13 in total, some good, some bad, and two of them very sexy, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. ^^
On the art part, the VN may not have the most detailed or beautiful art of all, but it is very cute, especially in their chibi arts. From the beginning it is possible to see that the scenarios are somewhat simple, without great details but manage to convey the sensation of being inside a tower. The characters however are all three well done in a style that makes their beautiful curves very clear, especially when they are wearing only underwear or how they come to the world due to a certain patch. ^^
A curiosity about the VN is that even without the use of any patch the game has a very interesting option called "Undewear Mode", when activated except for the CG, at all times the three women are only wearing their intimal clothes to cover themselves. When the patch is activated it changes two scenes in each route, in the scene of the kiss, taking off the clothes of the characters, and in the scene of the women having fun with "pure" things, in which it makes the scene longer with one choice, the choice affects only the text, the art is always the same regardless of the choice. Adding 5 new arts to each route for a total of 10 new "totally innocent" arts. ^^
The game also includes 17 achievements on Steam. 4 of them can be achieved during the game, the other 13 are one for each of the end of the story. As promised if I could get any news about the achievement I would update the analysis, so here I am to review what was communicated to me by the studio and it worked for me. ^^
"You can try the following, but keep in mind that your gallery and "read text" progress may be reset:
1. deleting the game's save folder (right-click The Wilting Amaranth in your library > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files... > game > saves)
2. delete TheWiltingAmaranth folder in %appdata% > roaming > RenPy
3. following the same steps as suggestion 1, delete the "cache" folder instead
4. steps 1 & 2 or all steps at once to cover all of your ground"
To finish, The Wilting Amaranth can be a VN and not stand out so much among so many others available in the store. But if you like "pure" stories of love between women also known as Yuri and do not have much time for something longer is without doubt a good recommendation, because you will have fun to those who know how to fall in love with pure love between women can be. ^^
The premise and storytelling are good enough, but the execution of characters overall is poor. It's a short game so there's not time for real development, which is fine, but there's an overarching sense that most decisions are either good or bad, and that is definitely reflected with most endings being death or abandoment. With the shortage of overall interactions available, this repeatedly reflects poorly upon a particular character, when typically the charm in these Visual Novels is picking your favorite, rather than the narrative shoving one "correct" route down your throat.
Another major gripe I have is a very clearly broken achievement that otherwise would've been gotten early on in most playthroughs, which prevents 100% completion, and the devs being aware and inactive towards a solution regarding it for apparently several months, which is telling of their (lack of) commitment to the community at large.
I wanted to like it more, but it has too many problems. The most important being that, for a yuri story, it doesn't elicit any emotions or romantic feelings whatsoever. I, as many other VN fans do, read romance VNs in order to feel a simulation of romance. If that element isn't present, then what's the point? While the story can be interesting at times, it didn't even come close to developing the characters enough for me to care about what happens to them. If I don't care about the characters, then I'm not going to care about when they finally kiss (among other things).
Another problem I had with it was the problematic behavior of both romantic interests, particularly Priya. When not accomplishing a happy ending with Priya, her routes always end in yandere-like behavior and/or death of the protagonist. I know that some people fetishize the idea of someone like that lusting for them, but something like that belongs in a hentai, not a story presented as romance. Psycho behaviors are not romantic.
The story can be interesting and the art style is cute, but I just wish it wasn't presented as a romantic yuri story, when it barely meets that criteria. You'd probably like it if you're into the whole yandere thing though.
I will give this game a positive recommendation, but just barely - it's a very cheap, short and simple yuri VNs with some fairly mild 18+ content, that looks and read well enough to give you your money's worth.
The story and characters, however, are serviceable at best - I would put them at the same level as Winged Cloud Sakura VNs, even if the focus on sex and fanservice is nowhere as big. The protagonist, Amarante, is rather consistent and interesting enough - a rather clueless, young princess who's been told by her parents that her attraction to women is a passing fancy and got forced into a speedy wedding after confessing to one of her maids.
Amarante is, however, probably the best part of the experience - the plot is bare-bones and the romanceable heroines are rather one-dimensional and unconvincing. The Witch, with her over-the-top shyness and stuttering gets old really fast, especially because her attitude only slightly changes when her romance scenario progressess - even by the end, she offfers little coherent dialogue and we barely know anything about her. The second heroine, the "rogue", switches between simply being selfish and abrasive to acting like a complete psychopath, with little consistency between endings. We also, once more, learn very little about her, without even being able to differentiate between her actual backstory and the lies she comes up with to manipulate others.
In the end, while the game isn't poorly produced or plain bad in the storytelling department, it's not really satisfying either. With around 4 hours of content, it might be a decent-enough, light read for a lazy evening or two, but don't expect anything more than that - it's not a story that will leave you charmed or deeply moved in any way.

Adorable and short (4-5 hours) yuri visual novel based on a fairy tale. Has great art, a great story, and great characters, plus an 18+ patch that unlocks some steamy scenes/art. Immediately replayed it like 10 times to get all of the endings and artwork.
My only small complaint was that I wish the music was more varied since you end up hearing it for a good few hours.
Overall, 10/10 would let Priya break my heart again
Cute, for people, who like, Yuri/Girls-Love :D Has quite a lot of Endings, funny ones/surprising ones too :) I played them all ^^
Just finished The Wilting Amaranth, a rather multifaceted fun little visual novel, that’s very hard not to love. It’s a written as a yuri fable, and with an 18+ patch, it succeeds in spades! The art is whimsical and cute, and certainly one I found to be very pleasing. Music is its weak point. -Considering there’s at least 4-5 hours of play, if you’re going through all the roads and avenues, a bit more music would have been nice. In all I’d say that The Wilting Amaranth is a great addition to Steams yuri offerings, and one I would recommend in a heartbeat.
