Fun shoot em up in VR. You can grab powerups as they float by and build up a fleet of ships.
Game doesnt support quest 2 controller,cannot control the ship properly ,concept is good but they need to add more support to the story mode also
I own a Valve Index and I think that the knuckles controller aren't supported with all buttons. It says there is Fire A and Fire B button but I couldn't figure out how to use the Fire B button.
Core features like Modular Spacecraft Building is bugged. Expantion modules do not drop the majority of the time so I'm left with my 2 basic weapon slots, which means that I can't pick up all weapon drops.
I do not recommend buying this game until these bugs are fixed.
Well this game looked soo cool i was well excited however this game is a complete mess
1. Audio controls menu is absolute aids turn down the music which is by default deafening this does nothing because the music and the songs have different menu whats a stupid idea, so you turn down the songs and that only works for in-game music, the start menu is still deafening and cant be turned down
2. the lack of a tutorial makes it's unbearable, it says grab here but anything you grab is permanently stuck in that one hand so if you left-handed and accidentally grab the wrong thing you're going to need to start fresh
3. friendly AI says "HELP ME" but you can't move the shit in order to do so, so you just have to watch them all die
First things first you need to fix your audio this is insane then add a tutorial or a control menu something so we can see what the hell we are doing
The Gameplay is great truly looks incredible and plays nice the other two things make it just unbearable
1) shoot down aliens while trying to save stragglers, also while trying to grab every gun and ship mod that floats by, and also trying to avoid blowing up
2) spend a solid 20-30 minutes building a massive 20-gun behemoth, cackling with maniacal malevolence, proud of your genius manifestation of wanton destruction
3) watch all your hopes and dreams of galactic domination get obliterated by a single mega multi-laser field of doom, as if you were but a wingless fly on the wall
4) repeat
This game is pure VR entertainment. It's cheap, it's fun, and it's got laser that go pew pew pew. You won't be disappointed.
No variety, not enough immersion or tension to make me care when I get hit, and overal boring+awkward. Got it on 50% sale but honestly I'll never play this game again so it's not worth the library space. Refunded.

Retro graphics are great with a retro difficulty to match
Has a R-Type/ Macross/ Gundam immersion - very pleasing to the eye

Limited controller support with the Index controllers - no remapping
You are more reliant on the tracer fire to aim
Great space shootem up like old style Nintendo games like Life Force. Only you control the ship with your hand and bullets come from everywhere in 3D space and not 2D plane.
Ship building is great, your ship can get gargantuan and have a lot of firepower. I recomend leaving flaks and lasers to companions.
Ah yes, companions, you not only build your ship but also rescue colony ships which join your fleet and you can upgrade them. Don't rely on them too much though, as they can get lost or destroyed.
And a small problem. If you want to experience the whole story - in spirit of Nintendo hard games - when you die - you start the game from scratch. No checkpoints (or at least I havent seen those). Story seems engaging and tangled just right for a space shooter. Dialogs are kinda easy ignore in a heat of battle.
If you like shmups and old school arcade ones, this is for you. Solid shooting mechanics with added bonus of building and managing your ship and multiple guns and components. I played the demo and loved it, the full version is addicting. Great Game.
Most VR games are really VR experiences, and this is not an exception. However, IMO, all VR experiences have a "best game for it". Space Pirate trainter is the best of the wave shooter with sci fi guns. In Death is the best experience with bows. And, Nightstar:Alliance is the best game for the experience of holding a spaceship on your hand. Similar to Xorter, from The Lab, but with added complexity and gameplay. Really recomended.
Got it from -50% sale. Worth every 4 euros. Wouldn't succeed much in story mode, but arcade kept me on game longer.
Pros:
+ Atmosphere (graphics and synth soundtracks played well together, possibly little FTL nostalgia for me from that combo).
+ Pretty easy to get a hang of on basic level
+ Good time killer and not pricey.
Cons:
- Missing tutorial /info page about different guns, expansions, items (fixable).
- The delay of picking up weapon and arrows showing up which slots are free. You end up sweeping the weapon module all over your ship and hope it attaches (fixable).
- Ship being offset from your hand feels weird and sometimes when you near edge of your play area, you hit things. Make it adjustable? How to end up edge of your area? When you want to shield your other ships, you have to come several steps forward.
- Pretty high difficulty curve on story mode vs arcade.
I'm recommending this game despite all its problems and imperfections because it's a great concept beautifully executed for VR.
If you want the specifics, check out other reviews. For me it's a must have for VR.
I will just focus on what I think could be improved, hoping the devs take note for future patches or sequels:
- I love the concept of adding parts to the ship, but when you lose a life you should be able to choose keeping the current build. I've closed the game a couple times because it felt too overwhelming to rebuild the ship from scratch. It felt extra pointless since you see so many parts and very few weapons. Going back to a hard stage in these conditions feels pointless.
- You should be able to exchange parts for turrets (for example, as many turrets as slots the part has). Almost 100% of the time I end up with a mastodontic ship with more slots than I can ever fill at the current turret drop rate. Needless to say, the supporting ships rarely get a turret from me, which feels as wasted potential.
- Please add some save system. At the very least, give me the chance to quit the game and pick it up from where I left. I don't want to waste a good run if I have to stop playing for whatever reason. Many roguelike games already implement this system since it doesn't really give you any unfair advantage.
Now here's a couple bugs I've encountered:
- Once I took a screenshot while warping, which made the brightness act weird for the rest of the game. At some stages it was a tad too bright, at some it came back to normal.
- At one point, I got stuck in a stage where the same 4-5 ships were spawning in an endless loop. Sadly, I can't remember what could've triggered that.
Other than that, just thank the devs because this is some of the most fun I'm having with my VR set. I can't wait to see how much can you refine this concept and how far can you take it in a second installment. Great job!
The level of polish and fun on this game are through the roof. looks good, feels good. There are some things i don't like, such as having to try to upgrade while dodging lasers and basically the slap on nature of add ons. there's no time to really think about how you want to upgrade your ship. Your ship is not very customizable either.
i'll be honest, xion is probably a more deep game than this, but the open space and the little ships and the graphical fidelity and everything makes this a very fun game as well. I recommend this game, but be prepared for a challenge.
Zero persistence in any game mode. You start over from the beginning every time, even in Story. Only difference between story and arcade is arcade has lives and more variety.
Upgrade system is annoying in the way it snaps pieces to places you don't want instead of highlighting first and snapping when you let go. It makes it annoying because your driving hand is in the way of the maintenance hand in real space as you hold the ship steady to change a part.
Gameplay is addicting though. I'm glad the ship is not entirely attached to the controller.
Just needs more development in those areas for me to recommend it.
Pretty cool game. Finally somene did the whole ship in hand and shoot forward thing right, though the ship isn't directly in your hand and kinda sways with your hand movement - which I like. You get allies and can throw extra guns you find on your ship or you allies ships. It's a pretty cool space / action game and after trying out like 3 different ones, this is by far the best and my favorite. Has a little bit of that Star Fox feel.
Awesome VR game and tons of fun. Like other reviewers have said, it feels like a modern day StarFox 64 / Lylat Wars. Once you've worked out the progression system the game really shines. The atmosphere is great, I desparately want a soundtrack release, and the VR controller use is really well designed.
Highly recommended VR space shooter, at an excellent price!
Very fun game, reminds me of a mix between Star Fox and Gradius but in glorious VR. I was expecting more of a Xortex style game but I am happy to have something completely different! You aim/control the ship with one controller and pickup weapons with the other. You don't need a huge room-scale setup as objects fly towards you which works great for smaller vr spaces. Don't hesitate to pick this up if you like spaceship games similar to Gradius, Star Fox, or R-Type.

NIGHTSTAR: Alliance is stunning. Its sleek visuals, spectacular soundtrack, and superior sound design immediately mark it as a strong contender. Before gameplay even enters the picture, on the basis of its solid aesthetics alone, Nightstar sets itself up as a unique entry in the slog of unpolished games that plague VR.
But the gameplay? Oh man.
Nightstar is an arcade-styled shooter with appropriate difficulty. Play revolves around you controlling a ship with one hand and a maintenance drone with the other hand. Ships come at you, you shoot them, and they drop stuff that you pick up. Simple. The fun of it comes in the absolutely hellacious time of it you'll have trying to manage your ship's weapon modules while you're being shot at by nine trillion enemy fighters. The difficulty curve is a little steep, but it's three hundred percent worth. Mowing down hostile fighters with your armada of heavily-armed allies feels plain satisfying. The explosions, lasers, ships, and everything in-between are vibrant in every way - spectacular both visually and auditorily. It's a grand time, from start to finish. Replayable ad infinitum, and fresh for just as long. If anyone wanted 3d VR badass Galaga, here it is.
There are some minor bugs occasionally, but every one I've found and mentioned has been promptly fixed by the developers. Whatever small gripes I rarely have with some aspect of a tiny flaw with the game are immediately overshadowed by the.. literally everything else, so it's fine.
And it's $10.
That's only like half the price for a good onahole.
Wow! This is realy well done. The music, graphics, style, everything is really cool. It's quick to pick up and brings me back to some awesome classic games with the blocky retro style. As you control the ship with your controller you can use your other hand to add upgrades, but it's all real time so you have to move fast. My only quibble is the intro and tutorial are a bit long, and I don't really want to skip it as it's part of the story, but just felt like getting to the action quicker. So if you find it taking long, just stick with it as the action will be all the sweeter.
UPDATE AFTER RELEASE: I just tried this game on Story Mode and it's borderline impossible. The first time I wrote this review I got to the first boss and beat him. WHY IS THIS GAME SO HARD NOW ON STORY?
I like this game. It has little pixel art people with dialogue with a simple story and has an arcade feel. It starts off relatively slow with just a few weapons and a trickle of enemies. It quickly ramps up though. I've only gotten to Chapter 2 so far and at the end of Chapter 1 there was a boss battle where you wreck a giant ship. It's awesome!
This is a significantly more complete game than I imagined for an early access game released on 6/18 aka yesterday as of this review.
I really like Xortex, Xion and Spartaga. However, this game feels a bit more slower paced due to the fact the ship is remote controller by you instead of being an exact replica of the controller. That is not a bad thing though. The enemy ships have shooting patterns that understand this so insane manuevers are not required, but definitely help. I really think this system makes the game feel more unique as well since not another spaceship shoot em up game has that mechanic. I really like this game and honestly think it's well worth the price since I only played about 30 minutes and then got destroyed in chapter 2. According to the achievements there are 5 ships planned? I was only able to get the first ship upgrade and now I have to start from the beginning since it is arcade-like.
I would say there is a good amount of time to play and beat this (once all of the content is there since I'm not sure how far it goes) since once you die it starts all over again.
