Amazing game, hoping for new levels

DON'T DIE! is a browser game/web app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a fully fledged PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy web/mobile developers. The mobile/browser app is a lazy, craptastic 2D top down stealth/action "puzzle" game for mobile phones and web browsers where you put your finger on your touchscreen to drag yourself around a dark room. There's a zombie and a key. Collect the key, avoid the zombie and get to the door. This is pure garbage even compared to mobile app trash.
From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's an ugly screen filter meant to make the game look even more obsolete... like the game looks bad enough already, but they actually went out of their way to make it look worse. There's no way to turn this off.
There's no options to change the resolution for the mobile app or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this mobile app is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this mobile app will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality mobile phone graphics.
The mobile app only displays in mobile phone style ultra-pillarboxed aspect ratio. This is just one of many indications this was developed to be a mobile app and not a serious PC game. It's not acceptable for developers to dump garbage like this on Steam when it's not even formatted or designed to run properly on modern PC gaming displays, to the point that this could be considered insulting.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the mobile app unplayable for differently-abled gamers.
Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.
Some of the defects in the mobile app can be attributed to the choice of using the Construct 3 game engine/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's worse than GameMaker Studio!). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine.
The very poor quality of this mobile app puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2023 (and this was released not so far back in 2019), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware.
These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this mobile app is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected.
Once more we see greedy devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $1 USD, but it's free to play on the web (and was free on app stores until Google removed it). Web developers must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free browser game just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are?
I think the game is made for mobile? I couldn't find anything in the Playstore or Appstore and I don't know why the developer is releasing this game for PC? I mean it's not a bad game for in-between, but for mobile it would make more sense. I honestly don't know how to rate this game. It's not expensive or bad, but is it worth the money for the PC? Idk. You definitely shouldn't expect too much. It's a game without challenge, after 10 minutes I've already completed over 40 levels.
10/10 best gaem
Great for killing time.
Good at killing some time!
Just... don't get kill, okay?
I got this on sale for 54 cents. It was worth that.
Not ready for prime time -- game is has trouble starting (simply doesn't from desktop icon), and even more trouble shutting down (have to force close it by shutting down steam).
Add to this that it was quite apparently designed for mobile, but is only for PC -- so the controls are wonky, meant for touch but hacked into mouse.
There is no reason to buy or play this game in the current state, sorry.
Fun game with great novelty concept. Perfect to play in small bites. Up to level 37.
