Boring
this game is pure garbage. the controls feel clunky and attacks feel weird. this could be skill issue but special attacks dont hit most of the time due to the enemies sudden movements. the grinding is hot garbage, even though you do level up faster than the enemies. it somehow feels so grindy like your attacks arent hitting hard enough, most of the game is also filled by walking segments. not only that, the platforming is god awful. the player's movement feel like you're on ice but also lifting the fucking sun on your shoulders, you lose your in game money when you fall. this game's only like 15 hours maximum but damn, it felt like pure hell. the ending felt so good, knowing I don't have to touch this game ever again by pure obligation because I forgot it for more than 2 weeks and can't refund. anyway, 4/10. pick up this game if you need anger issues.
Fun little Ys clone with Touhou characters. Got almost every achievement (I will not grind to lvl 99)
(+) bosses are fun
(+) interesting gear and rpg mechanics (it's not that deep but I actually enjoyed it)
(+) story is cheesy but enjoyable
(+) super cheap!
(0) Short game but if it were longer I would probably have dropped it
(0) Gameplay is simple but engaging (in a way). Did not get stale as the game is short
(-) Very easy
(-) maps and traversal are quite boring
It's pretty good. It's very easy to get sucked in to this and spend a lot of time on it. There are still a lot of little things that make it seem rough around the edges, and I want to emphasize this even though I like the game. There's a ton of items I can find and sell and make money, and it's very easy to get a lot of money fast but there doesn't seem much good use for it. The shop is pretty bare and they don't even have basic things like health potions. There is also a very silly plot point where Remilia gets some special sun protecting spray so she can go out in the daytime without burning up - and this isn't represented visually in any way. It's like they really really wanted these levels to happen in the daytime and thought of this plot point at the last second to justify it. what happened here?
There's also some hit counter thing onscreen that will say "1HIT!" "2HIT!" and so on as you keep chaining hits. In the font they chose for this, the 5 looks even more like an S than usual and this makes me laugh every time I notice it.
I could go on and nitpick a ton of things but nothing is gamebreaking at all and the core gameplay is totally satisfying. It's pretty much all combat inbetween dialogue, and it doesn't feel too easy or two hard. The bosses especially seem to be just the right amount of challenge where it's not insurmountable but it still feels really satisfying to defeat them. There's a lot of bullet hell style formations of projections than work surpisingly well in 3d. By the way, don't expect to be able to control the camera with your mouse or right joystick. The camera follows you, similar to a 2 1/2D game, even though it isn't one. it surprised me at first but then quickly became second nature.
Softcore 2.5D Touhou that even non-bullet-hell noobs like me can do, I enjoyed, except those armor golem creatures though, fuck those.
Awesome little game, love the art style, love the music, love the skill variety and the equipment mechanic. I would consider this game more as a souls-like rather than a bullet hell, because it puts emphasis on well timed attacks, since you can't stun enemies, and it is rather difficult to dodge everything with the hit boxes and the speed of the game. It is an engaging game, though it is slightly repetitive regarding the map towards bosses, but it compensates for with amazing landscapes and music.
I wish there was a mechanic where you could slow your character down and make your hit box smaller like the danmaku games.
All in all, would recommend!
actual peak game, bosses are cold too
Played it and completed all of the achievements in this game, overall satisfied for this game so I can add my completionist arc for the Touhou games that I purchased on Steam.
[Opinion, Positive, Negative, Mixed]
For me, it just a really simple hack and slash RPG game:
(+) No hard puzzles, just a peak hack and slash (grinding) game till you reach Level 99.
(+) Artstyles are great
(+) Soundtracks are straight up banger (Thank you Hachimitsu-Lemon)
(+) The grapich and visual just makes me chill, kinda remind me of something nostalgic...
(-) It confuses me where to go sometimes, a LITERAL MAZE! But, it's not that problematic. (they should add in-game map for each level)
(?) I have a mixed opinion about the simplicity of the game, especially about the combat mechanic. (Hit 3x > Skill 1 > hit 3x > skill 1 > hit 3x > skill 2 > Skill 3 > Repeat!)
[Conclusion]
That's all, the conclusion is I obviously like this game, but the gameplay is too simple. (good for chilling tho) 8.7/10
I loved playing this it reminded me of the legacy of goku series but touhou i hope to see more!
Remilia is the main character.
10/10.
I bought this game to sit in the library and listen to lo-fi beats voile mahou toshokan with Patchouli.
It was really fun, but it could get a bit grindy sometimes, and the labyrinth was pretty repetitive, but that's more of a nitpick since it's probably designed to be like that. The bosses were fun, and not too hard for more inexperienced players. I had a lot of fun with bullet hell mode since it was much harder, but not too much to handle for more experienced players. I've maxed out both Sakuya and Remilia, but personally I think Sakuya was more fun to play as. Also, good soundtrack. Overall great game.
This is the weirdest Ys game I've ever played. There's not even Adol, just some little girl and some chick with knives that isn't Karna.
... All joking aside, this is a serviceable ARPG with 2hus in it. A bit basic and rough around the edges, but if you enjoy either of these things, you'll probably enjoy this.
Now, rough around the edges, I say? Why yes. The platforming as Sakuya, frankly, sucks. Remilia has the ability to slow the descent of her jumps, allowing for more precise landings, but Sakuya does not. Often, I'd find myself either overshooting a jump or just landing on an edge, only to slip off. There's also knock back from enemies, meaning that you can land a jump, then get hit and fall off anyway. This even happens in areas with narrow paths that you can fall off. Now, the real annoyance of this, other than having to redo things, is that you lose money. Granted, money isn't that important until end game, and by then you can get lots, but it's still annoying to go broke because there's a jump or five that just suck because you picked the wrong character.
Remilia and Sakuya, sadly enough, share a lot of the same equipment. Weapons are unique, but they can, will, and do, share a large number of armors and accessories, though each one does have some uniques. The issue with gear is that they're all random, stats wise. There's little rhyme or reason as to what item has what stats, and you can run across items that totally tank most, only to have massive HP boosts, or attack, or any other stat.
Granted, it's perhaps better than just having an objectively best piece of gear, but it's a bit troublesome if you want to have at least decent stats in everything. And again, because it's random, it could mean you will grind for hours just to find something decent. You could go whole maps finding nothing but trash, or waste all of your money from end game boss grinding on buying stuff that is objectively worse in every way.
This is why the end game item dispenser is a gacha machine, because it's all a gamble. And at 40,000 a pop, it's a big gamble.
So what's actually good? The music, of course; this is a 2hu fan game, after all. The combat is also good for what it is, with each character having a decent number of skills with which to use, though the spell card selection is pretty slim. However, you do not level these skills, instead you just earn them via leveling... and, well, it can lead to some skills just being objectively useless as time goes on. Especially with Remilia, as some of her newer skills are just straight upgrades to previous skills.
The plot... well, it's a 2hu game. Especially since the Scarlet Devil Mansion gets destroyed, so it's totally legit. It's not that super deep or compelling, but it would fit in pretty well with the franchise as a whole, and it's very low stakes (Gensokyo isn't really in danger, there's no Lunarian plots, Yukari isn't fooling around), but still enjoyable.
This game has a level 99 cap. You do not actually need to go this high, but you can. It involves a lot of secret boss grinding... and you will come to hate her track, even if it's actually good. I've heard some people claim that Remilia is stronger than Sakuya, but if anything, I think it's the other way around. Sakuya, outside of the terrible platforming, feels like easy mode, especially when she gets her final skill. It shreds the secret boss pretty easily, and only gets easier with more levels. Remilia, on the other hand, I found has a harder time with bosses, and her final skill isn't nearly as good as Sakuya's. But she does have the better spell cards, so...
But if you want even harder mode, just turn on bullet hell. Then cry.
So yeah, this game is pretty good and you should get it if you enjoy ARPGs and 2hu.
Remillia kin
got all of the achievements under 13 hours. once you get used to the game, it's relatively simple and fun. a met a few bugs here an there(screen froze, had to restart the computer), but this game auto-saves, so i didn't lose any progress. the graphics are really nostalgic, remind me of games from early 2000's, and the music is also quite nice. cool challenges, fun farming. an awesome game overall
I also love Remi
Stupid little oni goblin brat. Correction needed.
A good fun game.
Story:
Following either Remilia or Sakuya, barely any difference aside from dialogues from Remilia or Sakuya. The Scarlet Devil Mansion was attacked, and so one or the other set off to investigate the rumors. This is due to them being blamed for the for the monster.
System:
A simple hack n slash type, with a leveling system to it. Reach the right level and you'll unlock either a regular skill or an ultimate.
Remilia:
Remilia is better at platforming, and faster movements. Her attacks are more wide range, but on a smaller scale. She is typically one on one though, which can make battles slow.
Sakuya:
Sakuya now, is the better out of the two, far better. She is both fast, and decisively attacks both one on one, and a massive range. Her attacks are devastating, making short work of enemies and bosses.
Difficulty:
Main story is pretty easy. However, post story content is more difficult and provides more of a challenge. That's really when the projectiles starts to get quite a lot.
Art Style:
Pretty good.
Music:
Amazing
Overall:
Really good game, but Remilia needed work, her style is very tedious. Sakuya is much more fun to play.
dont like the all fighting little dialogue formula but i enjoyed the models and vibes
Not a particularly hard game. It was pretty fun, but I wouldn't buy it at full price.
The game is pretty jank, combat feedback can be a tad rough, and the last achievements to 100% can be somewhat tedious.
I did enjoy it though which is why I could 100% at all, kind of simple as that.
Made for a great Steam Deck game.
Pleasant experience
This is one of the games I managed to 100%. I already finished this game for like 3 months ago, I just decided to make a review right now.
Do I recommend this game? A bit hard to say tbh, I'll just mention my experience and let you decide if you'll purchase this game or not.
At first, I almost quit this game when I was like 30 mins in since I didn't really like the gameplay, it feels very repetitive, the gameplay feels dull (you can change the skills as you progress in this game but the gameplay is still not engaging for me), the stages and camera angle can be frustrating.
This game is known for its OSTs and visually appealing 3D environments, the main reason I managed to play this game is because of these two things I mentioned.
I recommend this game if:
- You want to try a 3D Touhou platformer, there's only a few 3D Touhou platformer on Steam.
- You think you can enjoy this game even if the gameplay has a lot of issues. If it helps, like I mentioned, the OSTs are really good.
[*]You're a Touhou fan, EoSD fan, or a fan of two playable characters (Remilia and Sakuya). If you're someone who would still buy only for this reason (mostly if you still want to have this game in your library even if you didn't enjoy playing this game) then at this point just buy the game only when it's on sale, that's what I did.
great game
neat
Not a bad game.
I love Remilia.
Very fun game! It's a little bit janky, and there aren't really such a thing as i-frames for most things so it gets a little difficult to remember that, but it's definitely not impossible or unfair by any stretch of the imagination and I enjoyed it enough to do the post-game stuff too.
