Im finding the game to be interesting so far. Replacements are done good. Ive only played a couple of missions ;however, So good so far.
Doesn't do anything new, or even do anything old at all well. Absolutely no reason not to just fire back up Panzer Corps instead of suffering through the inferior graphics and sub-par implementation of the same old game mechanics (same except done worse).
I'd have played more if only to get more grist for this review, but 1) I became aware I was having no fun at all and was therefore wasting my precious time on this earth and 2) I wanted to make sure I got my refund request placed in time.
A good distraction. Not too complicated and not too simple. Very enjoyable game play.
Sorry, but no.
AI dumb as bread.
Stupid air combat mechanis.
Supply/logistics extremly simplified.
No combined arms benefits.
Slow AI turns.
And finally: RNG as hell.
Sorry, but no.
Overall a good game. In several scenarios (e.g. 9,10,11), bad balance of forces. AI (Germany) produces a lot of units and if it decided to counterattack, the American forces would be broken in a few turns. You need to be particularly skilful in deploying and operating your anti-aircraft forces. This game is absolutely amazing. I think that the graphics and game play system is really great. The game is really fun to play and was really quite easily to understand. I give it 7/10 Score.
I wasn't sure which way I was going to go on this review. Ultimately I'm giving it a thumbs down. The graphics are decent, and the sounds are decent, but this game seems to have some bugs. My game would lag and run poorly at times on my laptop which has an RTX2060 in it. Surely that card with an i9 processor should be able to run this game....but not so much. Also, after the Berlin mission, my game crashes as it was attempting to go to the next mission.....and I can't get it to work. Oh well, i was getting tired of it anyway. If you've played any turn based hex based ww2 game....then you've already played this game. There is nothing new here. There are some annoying mechanics involved in the game as well....for example, there is no benefit to any combined arms attack. If your ground troops are supported by nearby air or artillery, it doesn't matter. There really is no supply issues to worry about or negatives if your units get surrounded. Another thing that annoyed me was that you could not place air units on a hex that was already occupied....tell me how an airplane cares about what is on the ground...especially if it's simply an infantry unit. One last thing, the AI is dumb as hell. There were times when the AI had so much air power built up that they could have crushed my attack with a swarm of aircraft....they didn't do it....often times just flying off for unknown reasons. Anyway, there has to be better games out there.....get one of those.
Having played this game for 87 hours so far, I got my moneys worth, however I would not recommend this game to others. It was continually crashing with the new updates, I reinstalled and it fixed the issue. The interface is a little awkward for unit interaction and seems to run slow and clunky.Ultimately, a game like this being turn based, WW2 and strategic, it just falls short. One of their recent bonus scenarios for example "Metz" is frustrating and poorly done. Like most scenarios you are the allied attacker however you immediately feel like a defender. Attacked by unrealistic waves of Luftwaffe. German Superbombers in fact, Interesting enough, the USA attacker has NO airfield or aircraft. Don't test me on history, but it is 1945 the US has Pershing tanks and still the Germans are outnumbering my forces 5 to 1. The scenario feels like I'm attacking a hugely more powerful opponent and strategy really goes out the window. You lose unit after unit and its all about overcoming the initial onslaught then forcing the idiotic AI into attrition. Should the scenario not be more about a very defensive axis force dug in, mixes of conscipt like troops and veteran and elite troops, with a very depleted Luftwaffe? This is in a nutshell what the strategy is, overcoming waves of mindless attacks, then counterattacking and forcing the AI to submit as you slowly force them into attrition by increasing your economy and increasing yours. In other words, increasing your buying power for units while starving them. That may not sound terrible except in a strategic game where rock paper scissor is the emphasis, the AI does not factor this. They suicide all their units and then when the majority of their forces are depleted. The AI just sits there and waits you to pummel them. I am not exaggerating. Its just poor design, clunky and monotonous.Although I played it lots, which is: I gave it very much attention... I never payed much for it... I'm not JUST tired of it. Its just not fun as a strategy. If you like games like whack a axis then maybe its for you. I'm uninstalling and making room for a game I will like to come back to play again and gain.
Recently I purchased Panzer Corps and got my a** handed to me on Corporal difficulty twice, which was enjoyable since most TBS WWII games are fairly easy to roll over the AI without much strategy involved. The only issue I had with PC was that the graphics were a bit outdated (colorless) and it wasn't very immersive.
TOEC has filled that gap quite nicely! I wouldn't say it was as difficult as I found PC to be on the Corporal setting, but it was challenging and fun. The AA shooting down my planes forcing me to yell "fuuuuuuu" repeatedly was the best part of the game and taught me to stop sending in a lone plane.
The added abilities on units was also pretty damn cool. The dive bomber ability is very useful and really packs a punch. I found the misses to be just right and at the right times, like when I was somewhat behind a mountain yet the opponent piece was in view or there was a structure between my enemy or when they were using their special ability to shield themselves. Nice touches!
The animations add a lot to the game and the cemetery is a funny addition on the dead infantry. Much better than the pieces just vanishing instantly. At first I was wondering why they ships can't shoot further, but soon realized the game would be pretty unbalanced if they could. Any piece that gets into their range is greeted with instant death.
It took me 2 hours to finish the first mission and it was a blast to play. I can't wait to get into the next missions. Some of the reviews had me a bit worried about purchasing this game, so I waited for the sale and I'm thoroughly pleased with my purchase. The game is well worth the full price and there's even more to come, which is a bonus for me. If you enjoy WWII TBS games, definitely give this one a shot!
like the feel of the game . it's fun to play!! gives you some trouble when flak guns knock out your planes and AT guns pick off your tanks. wish the ships could move . good value for the price .
Scenario 9 begins on turn 3 and there is no way to win it. After making only three moves it reports that I've lost already.
I really wasn't sure about this game. I mean, the American Commander that appears in-game has a beard that is not in any form or fashion like any worn (or authorized, for that matter) in the US Army that I was in. And the narrator is the same one that narrates probably 80% of all PC games that have been made in the last ten years...yes, THAT narrator. Hearing his voice in game...well, it was irritating me to the point that I'd seriously consider refunding any game that was narrated by that monotone, droll voice of his. He must be improving, because I didn't refund this game. Yes, the game...it is actually quite good. The game play is most interesting and, dare I say, "fair." By "fair," I mean that the AI suffers drawbacks and his tactics can backfire just as much as my plans can. The AI also lets me know when I screw up by capitalizing on my mistakes. The graphics are pretty good, as well. Hard core wargamers that want every detail to be historically accurate may be disappointed with the liberties that the game takes, but I am really enjoying it. I recommend this game to the casual gamer looking for a war game that is easy to pick up and brings satisfaction where smart moves pay off and doesn't tax their brain as if one were playing Spock in a game of 3-D Chess.
This is a fun game and I recommend. Wasn't sure what to expect since this game is in development. Developers are very responsive. I am an amateur gamer, playing mostly single player games. I enjoy strategy war games that present a challenge but are not so complicated where there is a large learning curve. Tank Operations: European Campaign reminds me of Axis and Allies in many respects. There is plenty of action, strategy on deployment of resources, movement and supply. I've played scenarios twice now, trying different strategies to see how the AI reacts. I find the AI opponent is very crafty but not infallible. It knows how to capitalize on weakness but is not invincible.
A really likable game that doesn't get too bogged down in the details. If your looking for realism this is kind of meh but it doesn't detract from the games charm. Supply plays a role in the game which is kind of expected but there's also some base building elements and repair of damaged vehicles. So far haven't had a lot of difficulty winning scenario's as you can usually win by grinding away at your opponent and eventually swamp him with units but the game does make you work for it. Definitely worth looking into if you enjoyed Panzer General or Panzer Tactics HD.
If you give this game a chance its really fun. it does kind of combine verity of units and a turn based game with out being rushed with the countdown. At first i had no idea what to expect but giving it a few hours of it i got to like it very well. You can use whatever force and what ever methods of attack to accomplish a mission. I recommend it, its a challange, a time killer and over all a fun game to play. Well worth the 12 bucks. Check out some Youtube game play if you still are deciding.
At these early stages, it is already a very fun and good game to play. Of the planned 12 scenario's (Except possible DLC's), there are currently 4 (5th coming this month) in the game. Besides the expected easy tutorial scenario, the others quickly pick up pace in difficulty and last several hours each. There are lots of unit types in the game already and the maps are really beautifull to play on.
Besides that, the developers are highly active on the forums and actually listen to the community. I definitely see a bright future here and recommend picking it up if you're into strategy and WW2 games.
8/10
What a cracking game this is !
It is a simple and fun game to play. The AI is a bit dumb at times and there are a few holes here and there but there are some great features. No micromanagement or complex manoeuvring and everything is kept simple. I like the supply and repair trucks which help to keep the game flowing. OK, will I be playing this next month, maybe not, but for less than £10 I am having a lot of fun !
Update 28th Aug
Still playing, still enjoying. AI is tougher than I imagined.
A turn based linear c+c style game, $=spam units
No lack of quality hex games out there so no reason to not refund this
plays like some FB game ported to pc
AA just clears the skies in seconds, balance is terrible
After playing Tank Operations: European Campaign for close to 60 hours,
the games really a work of art but its a raw jem just polish it
make it axis or allied sides to pick and add some more ways to buy troops as well as add a map editor or easy/MEDIUM/HARD feature other then that good way to battle the NAZI hoards now 😁...!
Too early. The map looks really nice graphically, but it is really obvious that this isn't just Early Access, its Really Early Access.
I'll give it another shot when it matures.
Edit in response to the developer: I will keep my honest opinion here, but change to Recommend, based on this: The game deserves a fair shot. These devs are responsive and working hard. If you want to be part of something that looks like it'll be great after more work, this is a great title for that, because the devs are communicative, responsive and sound motivated.
