Overview
Can you imagine having other people live inside your head? The protagonist of this story, Dorothy Watson, is a 14-year-old girl who just started middle school. From the outside she looks like a normal teenager but she has scars and pains that most children don’t have. Dorothy experienced trauma as a child and developed dissociative identity disorder, commonly known as multiple personality disorder, which split her into several personalities.
Alice, who’s as innocent as a child but sees things that others cannot.
Gretel, whose blinding rage makes her wary of everyone.
Cindy, always positive and outgoing, who doesn’t really like Dorothy for being an introvert.
If you don’t help her, Dorothy might not be able to adjust to her new life.
Fortunately there’s still hope. You have the power to talk to the different personalities including Dorothy, when Dorothy is asleep. In her Dream Space, you can become the counsellor for Dorothy and the other kids. Use your power to integrate the split personalities into Dorothy.
But do be careful! The personalities are very sensitive to your questions and answers. One wrong answer can drive the wedge between you and them, tearing the kids apart beyond repair. Dorothy’s life is in your hands and your choices will have direct impact on her.
Remember only you can save Dorothy!
How to play
You will become a counsellor and talk to 4 personalities once per week in Dorothy’s dream. Counselling will begin after Dorothy tells you about the events that happened to her in real life during that week. When Dorothy’s story is finished, you can choose who you want to talk to. When you take your pick, the personality will start talking first and then you can choose how you want to respond. Real life events as well as your responses to the personalities will determine Dorothy’s stress level and the personalities’ integrity level. Your goal is to max out the integrity level for Alice, Gretel and Cindy before Dorothy’s stress level maxes out. This game has 6 endings in total. When you finish, you’ll get an illustrated cards for each ending that you can save and view in the Archive. Play again to collect all the cards and discover all the unique real life events that happen to Dorothy and the kids!

Very emotionally involving, if frustratingly hard vn with lots of replayability. I've played it so many times and finished all endings, even now I kinda miss it, even if I had to read the same dialogues over and over.
Dorothy is the name of the lucky girl from the Wizard of Oz. But our heroine Dorothy in this story was plagued and tortured by the trauma of her childhood, so that she split into many different personalities.
Alice, a 6 years old girl who is childish and innocent, she could see fairy things that normal people can't realize.
Bloodthirsty Gretel, who is always aggressive and nasty, she wants to protect Dorothy.
Cindy, the popular icon among students, who hates "useless" Dorothy.
Together with the melancholy and timid Dorothy herself, the four girls took turns, shattering the supposedly peaceful and beautiful 14-year-old life of Dorothy.
The story begins with a visit to Dorothy by the counselor "I". During the repeated consultations, we need to keep a balance between Dorothy's pressure and the integration of other sub-personalities.
The four personalities are evenly matched and have distinct personalities. Each personality has its own Good End and Bad End. Heaven or hell, it all depends on your choices.
Only if you reach True End, you could totally understand who you are.
I was initially intrigued by the claim that this game is about a person with D.I.D., but was very dissappointed to find that it largely just presents really bad tropes about the dissorder. The core mechanic and goal of the game is interesting on its own, but this is not what D.I.D. is, so it shouldn't be called that. Also, the story lines often end up making no sense because of how the mechanics work. I might keep playing just to satisfy my curiosity about all the endings.
While I did enjoy this game, I only purchased it because it was on sale... and I would recommend others do the same. The story and characters were interesting enough to keep me engaged, but not enough to not buy at a discounted price. However, the art was very pretty, I just feel that the story could have been expanded upon a bit more.
Art: 8/10
Gameplay: 7/10
Story: 6/10
Characters: 8/10
The art is beautiful and the mechanics are interesting, but I find it hard to recommend a game that perpetuates such negative stereotypes about people with mental illness. DID is already a heavily stigmatized diagnosis, mostly because of sensationalized depictions like this one which don't bear much resemblance to reality. Ironically the game mentions several times that the main character is afraid to tell her friends, family and teachers about her struggles because of the stigma against DID, so the creators weren't unaware of this problem when making the game. I wish they had put a little more care into their depiction of such a sensitive issue.
Who am I was a really touching and unique text adventure. It makes good use of fairy tales to express Dorothy's trauma. I don't know if it is an accurate portrayal of dissociative identity disorder or not but it was a fascinating approach to the subject.
It is challenging without being frustrating to balance Dorothy's feelings and those of her three other personalities in order to get the ending you want. The truth of her past is revealed little by little throughout each story path so it really is worth it to do all of them.
A short, sometimes sad but also beautiful little game.
It's a cute and wholesome game. While talking to the girls it challenge you have to think about the choices you're making while talking to them. Tbh, some of their faces creeped the heck out of me.
I took some time after completing this game because I wanted to make sure my review serves this amazing game justice.
This game is a fabulous look at the inner workings of a young girl with Dissociative Identity Disorder (Split Personality Disorder). Even without that fact it is an amazing exploration of a troubled girls mind. By exploring her life from four separate views you are able to piece together on your own about the truths of her life. The main narrative is laid out but the storytelling is so deep that you can discover so much more about Dorothy and her life (I actually love the whole literary theme as well. It is very well implemented).
I'm not going to lie, this game made me cry. I was so invested in Dorothy's success that when she finally finds happiness I could help it.
Going through all the options is rewarding even after you've finished the main story. There's so much to explore especially with the price tag.
I only had one off moment in the whole experience and it was solved within the narrative so it isn't even a complaint as it was intentional.
This game is unique in both style and content. It's really inspired me as a writer and I would highly recommend this game to anyone wanting to explore a rich and rewarding story.
I have every intention of writing a much more detailed review of Who Am I: The Tale of Dorothy once I have more time in the game, but I chose not to delay communicating my immediate impressions for even a day. This game is simply fascinating, and very challenging. Some players might see this is a personal journey. Others may see it as a very human oriented puzzle game. (And some may just be bored and confused, and they may be the ones that will benefit the most from this inexpensive gem.)
Dorothy is a 14-year old girl inhabited by several very divergent personalities, and you are a psychologist who can only communicate with her during dreams. Obviously, each personality must be dealt with in a very specific manner, and saying the wrong thing might shut down that conversation entirely. Each day Dorothy has experiences that effect how the various conversations might best be directed during that night's dreams.
The goal of WAI:TTOD is to find peace for Dorothy, but very carefully and cautiously. Not only is integration with every personality required fro successful completion, but Dorothy must be carefully protected from too much shock and surprise without adequate preparation and time.
An interesting, heartfelt and challenging game at a remarkable price, even when not on sale. Please, at least take a look and see if it might be a game to help you gain understanding of delicate human interaction, and of the pain that all humans suffer within.
Thank you.
Well presented interactive story that is over very quickly. It takes 2 or 3 attempts to work out how to "talk" to the personalities and get the "right" ending, but after that first 30 mins you are only really "working the system" to get all the available endings and achievements.
The negative review is slightly harsh because of the originality, but If there was more content, or more stories it'll be worth it, but it's slightly overpriced as it is.
This is a game qbout a 14 year old girl named Dorothy who had a very troubling childhood and has DID. The main objective is to help Dorothy and talk to her other personalities in her mind so she can can adapt better in life.
This is a rather short game (3-5 hours once you have an idea how to beat it), which is ok since the price is also short. Despite being short though I found it to be a rather sweet game, The concept of wanting to help a teenager try to live her life.
I also liked the mechanics of this game, including the fact that how you respond to Dorothy and her other pesonalities can affect what ending you will get (and there are a total of 6).
Overall, a short, nice game. I'd recomend it.
It may seem odd to have this amount of time in a game I am not recommending, but it's because it's nigh impossible. 5 out of the 6 endings are bad and you constantly get locked into death spirals. Having to note every response to make it to the good ending was more than a little tedious and frustrating. I can't speak to whether it's possible to improve DID by counseling in this manner, but achieving the good endings was WAY too hard.
Final Verdict: Buy on Deep Sale Only
This is text driven Virtual Novel (VN) with some dialogue choices to make that do have consequences. There is some nice artwork, but just portraits really. There is no voice acting or any cinematics. Ostensibly, you're a dream therapist who is out to help your patient with a multiple personality disorder.
You have limited turns to ask questions to your patient and her split personalities. Your job is to choose the best dialogue choices to get a desired outcome. One playthrough took me 36 minutes and, although I tried to get a good ending, I ended up getting a bad ending.
I liked some of the concepts in theory, but in practice they were not fleshed out. You do get a sense of what happened as you ask questions and by the end I kind of knew what happened to our patient. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the correct choices to get a desired result. I really have no interest to do another playthrough because I just didn't find it all that interesting depth wise.
Sale Price Rating 6/10. This VN touches upon some very serious adult issues and actually does a nice job of presenting the issues, but once you get past that, there's really not much else there.
This was a nice surprise. It's small indie story driven game with simple mechanics but a deep and touching plot that present some rather mature themes. I got this game on sale and wasn't really expecting much but it turned out to be very well written. From the gameplay perspective, there isn't really much to it but it works fine: you act like a therapist for a girl with dissociative disorder and her three other personalities (representing anger, vanity and immaturity). On each session, you are given some background of what has happened lately and you chat with the girls accordingly. Since there are different lines of dialogues to chose from, there is much replay value (it took me less than 4 h to get all endings), and, since the story of why the other personalities came into existence is pretty interesting (it deals with depression, anger, psychological abuse, delusion, etc., but the story is better off left unspoiled) I would really recommend it.
Pros:
+ Interesting story (I liked the way they were presented in short bits of dialogue, and not in order)
+ Mature themes are addressed correctly
+ Replay value
+ Nice artwork (although there are few different images)
Cons:
- Limited gameplay mechanics
- No way to speak multiple dialogues
- Short (although it seems to have the right length)
I enjoy this game a lot. It really challenges you to think about your choices as you talk to the different girls. You might think a choice is good only to find out it's the wrong one. But not in a way that's frustrating. It's in a way you can understand after you realize it was the wrong choice. I like the art and I like the UI. The only thing that's a con for me is that the music doesn't loop well and it's a little annoying. But it's the only flaw in an otherwise very interesting game. I hope this developer releases another game.
Addictive and engrossing! I got really absorbed in her story and different characters, and in trying to find the right solutions for different endings. It was fun to work out how the game works and to slolwly learn new aspects of her background. Really in-depth and thorough story. Highly recommended!
I tried this game with great trepidation owing to my own relationship with DID, as well as childhood trauma. I'm a survivor of child abuse who developed DDNOS (not exactly full DID, but close), was married to a woman who developed full DID due to similar (though worse) childhood experiences, have studied DID among other mental illnesses and known a few people with it both professionally and personally. So I'm not new to this rodeo. With that in mind, I bought the game with trepidation, fearing that it might project the extreme stereotypes used by some members of the psychiatric community as well as portrayed in the media. Yet I also bought it with hope that it would be more informative and supportive of we who experience this first hand.
First, let me deal with this as a game. While it is relatively simplistic, the narrative and characterization is relatively good and the art style captures what is being described (while being overly cartoonish in some cases). If I was recommending this product simply as a game, therefore, I would recommend it as a good piece of entertainment for the price.
However, I cannot view it in that way as it deals with a small part of the population few know anything about and what most think they do "know" is at best very poorly described. In this light, the game sadly fails us badly. While for many multiples, ultimate integration of different personas has been successful, for many others it is dangerous and has caused severe harm. However, the game portrays the idea that the ONLY way to go is rapid reintegration and anything else spells absolute disaster (working with the protector, Gretel, to is so badly done, for instance, that it results in her murdering her entire family - a trope that is particularly prejudicial against people with DID and sadly prevalent in society). No option is given for helping the alters to communicate, rather it is shown as impossible. However, many multiple systems have found ways of doing this - either hearing one another or journalling individual alters needs to name but two methods. Also, any integration that DOES occur within a mutliple system needs careful handling - the kind of rapid persuasion used in the game pretty much always causes mere temporary change, and can result in a more difficult situation than existed before. For these reasons, among others, I can never recommend this game. It builds on stereotypes and the worst of mental health treatment, is likely to increase misunderstanding, and will likely be extremely offensive to many multiples.
In summary, if it wasn't for the potential this game has for causing further problems for a small and misunderstood part of the public, I would recommend it as a visual novel. As a multiple, who has known others, and studied the issue, I can only voice my opposition to the piece however. If the authors can learn from this and perhaps provide a more supportive narrative that offers the successful possibilities of BOTH integration and successful system work and doesn't rely on oppressive stereotypes, I will be eager to reevaluate it.
I love this game! I played several times to get the right ending and I'm still not done trying to get the others. I felt happy when I helped Dorothy and bad when I hurt her. The game isn't difficult or tedious, but it's a fun, light challenge that isn't overly repetitive.
I was doubtful about this game at first because I've played many that looked similar and ended up being disappointing. It was really amazing! I grew to care about Dorothy and her mental health, and also understand the different personae and how they developed. I enjoyed how Cindy was there as 'the perfect girl' who could be helpful but also dangerous, and Gretel is the greatest threat but underneath lie good intentions. It's a fine balance between keeping up Dorothy's self esteem while forcing her and her alters to face hard realities.
Just wow. This game will grab a hold of you in ways you didn't expect. It's deep and forces you to consider the weight of your words. I'm not talking about Telltale's style of story-telling "the story is tailored to the choices you make" deal. I'm talking about "you jest at scars that never felt a wound" deal. And when it's all over, you feel bad when things go bad, and you feel joyous when things go right for the girls. Highly recommended for those who like to play games for the stories. Thumbs up!
