Here is what we are working on, with estimated timeline of each feature. About the Software
Desktop Mascot Engine allows you to have a character mascot live on your desktop and interact with it in real-time and have it respond to your interactions. If you remember those old Stick-Fight videos on youtube, where the stick-man's were fighting on Windows Desktop, thats pretty much how the character/mascot looks on your desktop. Think of it as a living Game/Anime/3D-Model Character that overlaps over Windows and other apps. For now we are adding diverse variety character models as mascots with some animations to allow you to relax/fiddle with the mascots to distract yourself from stress and stuff. ==================== This is the early access build. Interaction/Control is only possible directly when clicking (left mouse button) on the character/mascot. 1. To change the characters, press and hold mouse button 1 (left click) on the character and press left or right key to toggle through the initially available 4 characters. 2. To change the animation state of character, just left mouse click on the character itself. Animation change is random and sometimes its possible same animation plays, if so, left click again to change to different animation. 3. To change the mascot size, left click on mascot and use mouse scroll wheel to increase or decrease size. ======================= ~~Coming Soon: The AI Assistant~~ ======================= Further down the road, we will be adding AI to it to make it a semi-assistant to perform tasks for a variety of pre-defined things. We will be adding character packs of different themes/genres which will allow you a list of things via voice or input command like a Ai assistant would. We are looking for more suggestions and input related and unrelated to the AI/Assistant part, what you would like the mascot/character to do, what features you would expect and what particular characters/genres you would like ? This app/software is basically dead, developer last update was nov 13th 2019 which was just him saying he is gonna rebuild the app from the group up and such. The 3D animations you see don't exists, there is a few basic presets and you cant make your own 3D, only 2d pixel art. App had high hopes but now its just a grave
it really needs more work, it is too huge in my 4k screen by default.
mascots seem sorta limited but i liked watching my mascot dance across my screen it was a cool feature to add to my wallpaper
there are a few mascots that you choose from, and that is it. Been out for a few years now and just sad there is not much to it.
40% CPU + 43% GPU usage for using Desktop Mascot Engine.
One of the most serious reasons for Negative review.
When I wrote this review , I had a GTX 1080 and a i5 7500 with 16 GB RAM..
The quality of the animations are lame .
If you choose the option for big size Mascots , you can see that some frames are missing, also , all Mascots are 30 FPS only .. ( seriously developer ? what year is it ? )
I regret for buying it and I forgot to refund it
For those who wants to make their Desktop looks better , you can use Rainmeter which is for Free , or Wallpaper Engine , which you can find and buy here in Steam for low price as well
This program doesn't allow you to use it on other monitors if you have more then one of them.
I would wait unit the developer make it so you can move from the main monitor to other monitors
This Software made me say "nope" after ten minutes of Tinkering, would be freaken awesome to have a pretty cool interactive Buddy on your screen, but let me put it this way, The Pre-made Mascots, are terrible, just looking at the examples in the video tells exactly how well programmed they are, i mean the Sword Art Online inspired mascot doesn't have physics to it's skirt, and it just does random animations for no reason, but i got this to make my own mascot, BUT! you can only make 2D Mascots, and just by the Examples i saw in workshop, all their Behaviors are so bare Boned, like all they do is wonder around the screen, and the best you can do to interact with em is just pick em up, Hold them til they spin than fling em, or just drop em, that's it, and the All Might Mascot on the workshop is probably the most advance of them all and he's got so little Frames to his animations, so yeah, 10 minutes of tinkering, and i'm already asking for a refund, you're better off saving up a few more Cents for Wallpaper Engine, that's my advice, you're welcome
Right now, this program is janky as hell and seems to have been programmed with a couple of paperclips and a roll of scotch tape. The UI is disgusting and tacky, animations lead directly into one another with no transition, clicking the character will teleport them away from your mouse, and the app uses some of the most annoying voice-acting and sound effects for responses, including some memes that are so dead that not even a phoenix down could bring them back.
It was 3 bucks, but honestly, that's really not even a fair price for this buggy piece of junk.
They advertise using missing models, and their roadmap is about 2 or 3 months back. We still don't have even the slightest bit of workshop support.
Don't.
Instead of working on putting up the steam workshop, they just have made their own.... and they arent even that good. Will remove when they get the steam workshop working.

I hope in the future we can browse millions of mascots, the available mascots atm are very lovely and cute indeed. Hope more features to come since this is still in its early age, Recommend because of how fun yet simple it is.
Update 2020: It's been 2 years... Nothing happened. Could've been a great program if the devs actually wakes up and started making new features to this. Especially "Creating" your very own mascot. Workshop is still dead, you can create 2Ds but not 3Ds and its animations. For now i'll stick to the "I recommend this software" because it's cheap and a little entertaining.
Very nice i love this idea, you should make a workshop where we (the consumers) can create and post out own characters, that would be hella cool. But the problem is still in beta face , many bugs are occuring so i need to refund & wait for some new changes/updates in this application .
So this app seemed cool from the screenshots and stuff and i can see it has a lot of potentail but right now it sucks, alot.
here is some reasons why i say that:
1. Main UI interface doesnt even work when you click on it and it also sometimes closes randomly or freezes/crashes
2. Character/mascots are buggy and they are annoying as hell as in they wont shut up, like they will randomly play really loud music or voice clips like every 5 - 10 seconds that you cant mute unless you mute the app through your system sound mixer
3. No workshop as of yet, so your stuck with like 10 generic unity asset characters to use. (Yes i know workshop is coming but still)
4. Screenshots in store page show 3D/2D characters that arent even in the app.
Honestly your better off spending your money on something like wallpaper engine, cause its better then this as it is at the moment, you can even get mascot buddies on WE too that are a million times better then this app.
I will keep this in my libary and check on it every now and then to see how this app develops, then I may change this review when it gets better.
As for now, this app uses 48% of my processor which is i5-6600k and 500mb of RAM, which, for such a small app, is TOO FKN MUCH! Bought this app because I already own Wallpaper Engine and love it, and hoped this would be as nice. It may look promising, so instead of refunding it I'm hoping for future development. Also, as for now, there are only 15-ish characters with really strange behaviour, hope it'll get better with time as the workshop will be launched, i hope at least.
Overall - Useless for now, waiting for future updates and keeping my fingers crossed for it!
bought this to support the developer. Can't wait for more mascots.
And also, add a mute option, I dont want to hear a teenage girl's voice every 30 secs.
Add more settings as well like: the option to pick if we want to have random animations or just a couple

- plz set Master Audio volume 0%-100% and not 10%-100% (yes I could mute ME in win sound mixer and I'm doing it
but it's better to manage in ME itself.
- improve music reactivity
- improve mascot textures [mainly anime girls]

I know, that's a lot of "improve", but I'm not saying that it should all come right in the next update. More a long-term thing

The video they show is misleading; there are a few mascots that you choose from, and thats it. You cannot make your own charecters. There are no 2D mascots like in the video, and there are no guides or tutorials given by the developers on how to create or add mascots through file directory.
However, it is only 2$, so its still worth its value, but the video is misleading.
I actually feel MORE alone
Edit: I use it while streaming and editing more than I care to admit. Inspirits me while editing, entertains the boys while streaming. Once it can verbally degrade me and my following, I'll be COMPLETELY SATISFIED. Much faith in the devs. They understand.

I love it. It's small and cute. Characters are cute and well done. Animations are well made swell. Although, I would love it if it had more features to it. Of course i know this program is under development, but few suggestions won't hurt.
What I'd love, is if you could add characters to your liking. For example, make packets of more 3D or 2D animated characters that can be installed and used. So the people owning it could choose one for their licking, without the program taking too much space.
Also, audio interactions would be amazing too. As i read from one review, they said that if it was connected to Discord, and every time you'd get a message, a character would say/act in some way. Or that the character could react to music being played trough Apple Music or Spotify, for example.
Also, what I'd find SO adorable would be if the character would react to watching videos by sitting down and looking at the screen, or something like that.
And i also think that people would love it if they could animate their own character to this.
A mistake that i spotted; On the dragons, when they jump they get out of frame. If that could be fixable, that'd be amazing. On other characters I've not spotted any mistakes (Yet).
But the program has amazing progress on it already, and I'm highly looking forward to it.
The basic idea is very cool to see a cute creature sitting/standing/sleeping somewhere my screen

But first of all, I bought Desktop Mascot Engine at the day of the release, so there will be alot more improvements, but the main idea behind it is very ingenious!
Improvements:
- More animations :D.
- Workshop for many more characters would be awesome.
- After I closed settings menu and want to do something else, my steam activity shouldn't say:"In use with Desktop Mascot Engine", rather it should say -online-, as I closed it (like Wallpaper Engine), because the time I'm -in use- with it, it counts the play time.
- Hotkeys for certain animations would be cool.
- An Amazon Echo likely function with the the microphone that they open for example the task manager if you speak to them.
[*]Add compatibility for 2 monitors.
Many things will be added and improved (some are probably already in work), because it was, as I said, just released today.
If you improve the software like that it would be an 11/10
It seems like it could be cool if it was just something that would help you with basic computer functions, like if you got a discord message it could just come from the corner of your screen with its own sound and show you have a message. or maybe make it like your own computer siri where you have a mic and it will answer based on what you asked with its own personality. But as it is rn, might as well since its cheap but it doesnt do much if you dont know enough about unity
