Lazy and shabby mix between the original VN and the anime adaptation, manages to be the worst of both worlds.

This game was my introduction to Steins;Gate and not gonna lie, the first few chapters are pretty boring. It takes a while for it to fully hook you in, but oh man it hits. I'm glad I played through the whole thing. One of the best visual novels I've ever played hands down.
One of the things I don't like about it is the lack of a chapter select that you could use after you beat the game to help you with achievements, auto-save works but it has a save limit and it can delete your old auto-saves if you take too many tries going into chapters and chapters. So manually save often, that's my best tip for this masterpiece of a game.
As a bonafide Steins;Gate otaku I really wanted to recommend this despite its flaws, but I cannot. It's passable if you've already experienced the original VN, but only barely (I'd honestly rather just rewatch the anime than play Elite). The phone system (a central mechanic to the original VN) has been entirely gutted and is replaced with a pretty intrusive full screen pop up that forces you to look at all texts and calls. Even worse the entire story has been gutted to fall in line with clips from the anime. How gutted you say? An entire character removed from the game. There are also direct references in all of the other VN's that you will not understand because they weren't included in Elite or the anime. Let me also share just how gutted Elite actually is.

They seek to sedate the mind with flashy animations, to distract from the raw, unfiltered power of the original's text based brilliance! They think they can control how we experience the divergence of world lines, but Hououin Kyouma will not be so easily fooled! The original VN is the true path to Steins;Gate! El Psy Kongroo.
