I'm not really sure if Hidden Paws is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself.
This is a very simple hidden object game where you view a few low poly, jaggy looking scenes and click on various things once you find them, typically cat themed. This plays very similar to the Unity asset flips from the Russian asset flipper, Hede, although the level of polish is slightly higher (there's an options menu that Hede usually doesn't bother with). Still, when one is competiting with Russian asset flippers in terms of gameplay content and value for gamers, one might reconsider if one is adding value to the gaming industry with these products.
The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game.
On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers.
The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with.
The controls and game handling are notably very clunky, sluggish and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?
Hidden Paws is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Very difficult to know whether to give it a thumb up or thumb down, it all depends on your health situation, such as motion sickness, or have an hand disability. I wish there is neutral option. I have to give it a "do not recommend" review just to give the devs the feedback and I hope they will improve on the camera movement for their future projects.
So my review would be neutral. Thumb up to the devs for 20 great levels and with some difficult hidden cats and yarns. The biggest let down is the camera movement, and constantly moving the mouse around, the swirling motion when turning left or right, instead of just straight left or right, make this more difficult to control. I do not recommend this game if you have motion sickness. I also don't recommend it if you have hand disability, I don't have hand disability but it feels like it is giving me hand arthritis, the camera movement with mouse is very difficult to work with.
The hidden object game in itself is great, if you are a puzzle lover, hidden object lover, cat lover, do not have motion sickness, do not have hand disability, and won't mind bad camera movement, then this would be great for you.
Other thing is the hint, one of the train level, the hint for a cat say train, but the cat I was missing was NOT on the train, it was closer to a tree than a train so some of the hints can be misleading. Sometime the hint show a house, but it does not mean it is the same house layout as in the hint. So take the hints with a grain of salt, if it says a house, then just look for all houses, not the one that have specific layout, and if it says a train, just look both inside the train or look along of the track rail lane.
Please do improve on the camera movement for the future games, devs.
I would enjoy this a heck of a lot more if I didn't find the navigation so awkward. No matter how I tweak the settings it's difficult to navigate and takes away from the experience.
I felt compelled to write a positive review as I noticed several negative reviews for this game. This game, and Summer Paws, hold very special and wonderful memories for me. I enjoyed my time with both games VERY much. If you are a cat lover who enjoys hidden object games, I think you'd love these games.
They are simply delightful, wonderful cozy games and I would recommend them to anyone. I'd love to see more in the series by this developer. The Paws games are lovely and mean a lot to me.
I love the silly low-poly quality and the variety of maps and atmospheres this game offers. The hint system was a bit frustrating, though—the cats could still be found eventually using sound cues, but locating the yarn was a completely different challenge. That said, I really appreciated the Steam guides for saving me from endless yarn-searching sessions! Overall, a fun and charming experience.
A cute and charming game. Once you figured out where the cats/yarn liked to be hidden, it was generally easier to find them. The Christmas levels were fun too and a nice change of pace. Easy to get 100% in achievements and on the first play through. I feel like it has potential and was fun enough, but it could have had a little bit more.
Like most others, I found the controls confusing and difficult; once I stuck to pretty much only using the mouse it wasn't as bad, but this was probably the most frustrating part of the game (and there were some tricky cats to find!). The hints often weren't helpful, for example telling me that the cat/yarn was near a penguin in the level that has like, a hundred penguins... It took me two hours to complete the game, I did it mostly on my own and only referred to the helpful Steam guides a couple of times to get the last cat/yarn, so not worth full price in my opinion - buy it on sale if you're still interested.
Only marking as a "not recommend" due to price and time to play, especially once I spotted that those Christmas levels were a free added bonus!
What would have been a chill game was ruined by the awful controls.
A hidden object game where you embark on a quest to find cats and colorful balls of yarn across 20 snowy islands. Hidden Paws, with its cold winter night atmosphere, is visually appealing and creates a cozy ambiance. The game offers over two hours of gameplay, which, while not extensive, is perfect for a casual gaming session.
At first glance, the graphics are fair; they do the job but don’t particularly stand out in the crowded genre of hidden object games. One major highlight is the soothing soundtrack, which really sets the mood—although it’s unclear whether the tunes are original or sourced from elsewhere. Finding hidden felines and yarn amid cleverly crafted environments can be both entertaining and challenging, especially since they are often tucked away in unexpected spots like car trunks or behind piles of logs.
However, the game does have its downsides. For players prone to motion sickness, the camera controls can be a significant drawback. Although I eventually got the hang of it after about an hour, the camera movements felt cumbersome and made me a bit sickly, making the exploration of each level a tedious task. Searching around multi-sided buildings for hidden objects can also be frustrating, as you'll find yourself constantly readjusting the camera for a proper view.
In conclusion, Hidden Paws is a cute game with a lot of charm and hidden surprises. Yet, the frustrating camera mechanics hold it back from achieving its full potential and it made me give this game a negative review. If you can tolerate the camera controls, you’ll find a fun experience waiting. Otherwise, it might be worth keeping your eye out for other options in the genre.

The hint system is the only thing I found frustrating, the cats could still be eventually found using sound cues but finding the yarn is a whole different story. Controls of the camera are a little tiny bit weird, but nothing that would make it unplayable.
The game is cute and all but the camera movement is so bad. Clumsy and uncomfortable to use around. If they'd fix that the game would be perfect.
The camera control completely ruined the game for me; it was a struggle to 100% the game. There should be a fixed camera option instead of this horrendous swirling camera motion. As someone who has vertigo, this made me really nauseous and dizzy. Also, with the controls, I found myself stuck pretty often and could not zoom out.
Great idea game wise but execution is poor.
Fun little game if you want easy 100% and I like the music.
