Death Crown

I loved this game. The aesthetics are fantastic. Very short and simple, which adds a lot to the experience. However, it can get very visually overwhelming as the game progresses and the map gets busy. I would not recommend getting it if you get eye strain easily or struggle with high contrast, as I had to stop a few times.

Pretty short but there is "domination mode" which is similar to an endless mode
I only paid 99 cents for the game and I don't really have anything to complain about

Its pretty simple with there being 3 buildings to place
But I still found it enjoyable and not too easy or hard

Some have issues with the art irritating the eyes
You can try changing the color scheme in settings

If nothing else there are good things in the steam points shop from it

Art style is fine, but your eyes will hurt. You won't be able to see sh** and will fail miserably because of amount of pixels blinking around. There's no balance or rock-paper-scissors mechanics and without colors it's worth to play campaign only, thought it's too small.

I generally don't like RTS games. I'm not good at them, I don't understand them, my brain just doesn't work in that way. Death Crown overcomes that by stripping everything back to the purest distillation of the genre. No tech trees or elaborate build orders, just three types of building - money building, troops building, defence building. Your troops march out at a steady rate without needing your input, kind of like in a MOBA - all you need to do is build the relevant buildings and set a path for them.

Matches are short, compact and bloody. Death Crown is almost like an arcade version of an RTS, and for me that works a lot better. It feels ferocious and close-quarters, like a knife fight in a phone box. It does still offer you choices as to how you want to tackle your opponent, but I get that the people who like turtling and gradually building up their ideal army composition might not enjoy what this is doing. For someone who doesn't normally like RTS games, though, this might be the one that works for you. It is for me.

You are death and you're here to unleash it

Above all, this is a game about aggressive domination. Attack, conquer, leave no quarter. You must be aware of your defenses, but winning means being just as brutal as you'd expect the reaper to be. There's no advantage to be found for the cautious. Usually I'm more of a careful, strategic player, so I really had to adjust my strategy here. I had fun, but, if you get stuck, you may want to peek at one of the strategy guides. Realizing the strategies to push forward is simple, it's more about the mindset shift.

'Bosses' have unique mechanics sometimes change how you need to approach a map. Sometimes this made for pretty fun challenges. Other times, I just brutalized my enemy before I understood what the 'boss' was doing. Either way, when you do win the tougher battles... you're rewarded with more of the gorgeous stylized art you saw in the trailer.

I had some small gripes with the game. Checking each area in the human campaign was kind of annoying. Sometimes battles end and you just get an upgrade crystal or two, along with some small map changes... and, at times, some mechanics felt in danger of overstaying their welcome. But it didn't cross that line for me.

The game includes co-up and 'versus' modes, a few additional 'event maps' and a free prequel DLC to play past your first 'main story'. I almost thought the first campaign was all there was, which would've been a little disappointing, but you just have to go back to the main menu to find the other content. I can't speak for how good multiplayer is, aggressively-fast PvP isn't my jam, so I wasn't interested.

Speaking of the story.. (skip past this if you don't want any spoilers, but I'll only touch on the themes) I felt from the first campaign that you were a destructive force bringing balance to the world. A mad king hopes to undo the natural order and you're here to bring him low for his delusions of grandeur.. that seems to be how your MC sees things... I was so very wrong to believe this on its face.



TLDR:
If you like the art from the trailer and enjoy aggressively-paced strategy games, you'll enjoy this. I'm really not the target demographic as I was not 100% sold on the graphics and I normally enjoy more methodical strategy... but I still managed to enjoy this. It's good, it goes on sale for like a couple bucks, but, I think it's worth the $10 price tag. If the relatively short hours bother you, wait for a sale. I did. But you don't see a unique, stylized game like this every day.

fascinating project, simple in appereance but funny and engaging ..
