It's peak
Play please, its fantastic and going in blind is best
А когда фины и адекватные игры
This is defo one of the best games I've played this year
The artstyle is really unique and both the stage/enemy designs are really interesting. The soundtrack is just something else it's insane how good it is, really gets the blood pumping.
The gameplay is the usual stuff you would find in a normal shoot em up but with a neat twist (this being the secondary mech mode in later stages, useful for doing a ton of damage or avoiding bullet barrages) that makes it really refreshing. Difficulty-wise is pretty fair but if you want to get a proper 1cc you're going to really work for it. It has lots of replayability and a few aces up its sleeve so you'll have a blast.
At a first glance the story looks a bit plain but it really caught me by surprise later on, it's actually super cool once you get going a bit.
Overall I really loved playing ZR and for just 12€ it's worth your time
Shoot'm up
IS THAT THE VIC VIPER
Stop looking at the reviews and play the game.
You're already this far down - so you're interested.
Don't look anything up, don't spoil yourself on anything, just pick up the game and stick with it all the way through to completion. It invites you in very warmly and very lovingly to clear it, and makes no attempt to baby you but is also very encouraging inherently with it's mechanics and progression.
To System Erasure:
I bawled my eyes out upon finishing, which is not something that happens very often with games for me. I think there's something to be said about the emotional weight of knowing you can do something, knowing you can get there, and then really trying your hardest and exceeding that. Thank you for one of the best games I have ever sunk my time into. I'm looking forward to what else you make.
Few have mentioned how you cannot skip much of the game's dialogue or cutscenes due to this game's narrative focus (which Shmups don't need, along with 'lore'). I find this very frustrating as the game is in favor of the 1CC mentality and I can get behind that. This game references a lot of Shmups, and that's cute, but the Shmup genre does not need any more love letters, it needs good games and we don't need more people thinking this is the pinnacle of the genre or anything like that. At the end of the day its a very middle of the road shmup-like art project that's rather pretentious.
Do me a favor, if this was your first Shmup and you went on to 1CC some other game, let me know.
Incredible game. Even if you're a complete novice to shoot em ups like I was, this is worth investing your time into. If nothing else you should play it for the incredible soundtrack and fantastic sprite work, but there's a really fun actual game here too with a lot going on under the hood. Step outside your comfort zone and experience a real gem.
From what I understand, no one has mentioned how you cannot skip much of the game's dialogue, scripted segments, or moments of downtime due to this game's narrative focus. This is SO frustrating, as this game prioritizes and is in favor of the 1cc mentality - no further elaboration on that without spoilers - meaning that you will most likely be completing many repeat runs of this game's levels. These unskippable moments botch the pacing of ZeroRanger like crazy! They artificially lengthen the experience by nearly 1.5-2x of how long a run in this game should've been. After experiencing most of the story in a previous run, I just want to play through the damn game and retry that true final boss...
Due to my interest in shmups being newfound at the time of this review, I am a somewhat inexperienced player of these type of games in general, with at the time of this review only having played through a few Touhou games on Normal difficulty. That being said though, I simply believe that this game wasn't entirely for me for a few other reasons:
• The game's inherently "transcendental" and forced upon narrative not doing it for me and obstructing the moment-to-moment gameplay itself.
• The game's visibility being somewhat of an issue regarding the reading of attacks compared to other shmups due to its two-color palette. The actual pixel art itself is great though.
• This game's VERY frustrating yet bold game design decision that encourages 1cc play for newcomers. I personally think said decision could've been implemented more gracefully through a more encouraging means, but I do not exactly know how at the time of this review. Maybe just omit the decision in the first place, and have an even better optional ending for if you were to 1cc through means that do not create setbacks. I am admittedly not great at this game though despite beating the true final boss, so this criticism could possibly be due to lingering frustration and lack of skill.
Shooting shit will never not be fun though, and in the end this game is pretty good at letting me shoot shit, so take all of this with a grain of salt honestly.
One of the best examples I can think of in blending narrative, theme, and game design, comparable to something like Undertale. Criminally underappreciated.
Extremely fun. High replayability.
Amazing shootem-up,
i HATE this STUPID chud game it SUCKS
I ain't well versed in Schmups but hey, this was quite fun
Not much to say here other than what you see is what you get.
It's a quality schmup with a striking green and orange theme that's forgiving enough that I think most people can get into it.
Soundtrack rocks, fights are satisfying, it's really nice. I only have one debatably negative thing to say and while it is a spoiler it does not have to ruin the game, it's well worth trying regardless.
The True Final Boss is one of the most cruel things I've seen in a while, though not in your typical "tHiS iS tOo HaRd" kind of way. The game warns you that you only get one shot if you decide to attempt it, and it means it. Failure means total save file erasure, meaning if you die it is back to the very start with you. It's completely doable despite the curveball it throws you, but do expect this to add extra gametime, never give up.
Short, sweet, well worth your time if you think it looks interesting.
The game's quite short but it has a few reasons to replay it, but if you have no problems with that, it's a yes from me.
If you heard about the save deletion, ITS OKAY, the game is pretty easy on a second and third playthrough and youll end up beating it in no time. The final final boss is balanced around the concept that you've mastered the game thoroughly as well.
Just a little tip though, you can wait it out and its power will greatly diminish.
i've never played a shmup before but after playing this i suddenly have the urge to buy a big freaking drill and kill god
amazing music, game is very fun even as a beginner
def recommend doing multiplayer if you have a friend to play with
It's peak, cinema, actually gourmet.
Some asshat difficulty spikes, too bad I forgive anything Trigger related.

Also buy the OST, all of them.
Coolest final boss of all time.
this is the greatest game of all time
unironically
i will die on this hill
no game released in the remainder of this century will top the masterpiece that is ZeroRanger
failing the end deletes your save. i dont care if its thematic. i want my time back. this has happened twice
Play this game. Please.
Great game which made me more interested in shmups
This is the story of a Beet who wanted to beat...
Zer Oranger
I am become...
Zero Arranger
Go buy ZeroRanger Arranged Album -GREEN ARRANGE-~
I'll be Voiding my Stranger until I can Zero her Ranger.
ZeroRanger is a perfect entry point for the shoot em' up genre.
It has tight controls, forgiving hitboxes and gives you many chances to learn enemy patterns.
It doesn't try to reinvent the genre by adding new stuff but it services the genre really well by capturing everything the genre is known for perfectly.
I recommend everyone interested in shoot em' ups to give ZeroRanger a shot.
A marvel in game design. Zeroranger combines the ease of console gaming and the gameplay density of arcade gaming in one smooth package.
genuinely incredible ost, art, story, mechanics, gameplay, etc. criminally underplayed. have a feeling the only reason its not super huge on steam is cause its on itchio as well. bought steam version just to leave a review + support dev. its literally just that good. if you like shmups, especially of the snes genre, for the love of god play the freaking video game
Best way to start getting in to shumps. It does a great job of training you on specific type of enemy and bullet patterns, while still being incredibly fun. May you achieve enlightenment.
RETRO 16 BIT MUSIC
BUDDHISM
non linear story
arcade 2d shooter
yes it works
gorgeous SHMUP with rad as hell music, art direction is superb and is good fun for entry players and veterans! <3
Soundtrack goes absolutely crazy
Very forgiving shmup (More continues with each failed run) with fun weapons - uses it's gameplay effectively as a story telling device, awesome stuff all around, music, sound, enemy design. Great game for anyone interested in the genre. If you're into the genre already this one is similar to radiant silvergun (each weapon being linked to a different button with some fun close range tools) but wholly it's own thing.
Good shmup. Buy it and play it.
This game is amazing. As a person who does not play this type of game, I still managed to get through it, and had a lot of fun.
It's one of those games where the less you know - the better. It's short, but it's worth the price if it even slightly interests you.
An amazing example of a game delivering an idea and a story though almost nothing but gameplay, and with actual fun gameplay.
With all that said - if you *really* suck at 'shmups' or just *really* hate them, then maybe get it on a sell. It's totally approachable to newbies but by the end it does demand you show some growth and skill.
And another thing - when you get to *that* point, what you are told is completely true. Proceed with cautious...
Great balance of being approachable while still encouraging a "real" clear.
Excellent indie shmup with really good gameplay, pixel art and music. The chaining is reminiscent of DoDonPachi, with some unique twists that come later in the game. The story goes into some interesting places and has some fun meta-elements. The more I play this game, the more fun I have. I wish the game rewarded the player with some extra challenging content if they managed to get a 1CC, I like it when shmups recognize skilled players and reward them with even more challenge. Highly recommended.
Fun game, great soundtrack
coming back to it in 2024, yep. still one of my favorite games of all time
Never knew getting an achievement could be so good.
Play this, then if you have the mindset for puzzles, play void stranger.
This game raises some questions to me regarding artistic intent versus player experience. To make the point to veteran players who've also beaten the game, I've now played through the campaign three times. Thati said, the music makes me want to give it a 4th go.
evangelion if it was good
