I started playing this game knowing what I was getting because I have it for the Nintendo switch and it's worse on there than on PC.
The developers had idea for the game butttt this game is extremely buggy. I've had to restart it a few times because during some of the scene's where I need to talk to people, the game will instead show us alone in our room. I've been playing this to try to get a perfect game for it and nobody has mentioned this yet from what i've seen but 3 of the steam achievements will never be shown as being completed.
So if you don't mind having to save and quit constantly because the game bugs out and your frozen in place, or having to quit the game entirely due to it not letting you continue.
Recommended with caveat:
-Really don't get your hopes up about this game. Looking at the store description, it's really easy to think it's more than it is. The touted "branching dialogue" really isn't there, and there are no major branches.
However, the touted bugginess of other reviews has been (mostly) taken care of; it's still a bit janky, but nothing major anymore. This game is essentially a visual novel with FMV scenes and a management sim element; if that's something that sounds like it's up your alley, you'll have a good time, and if not you'll hate it. Given the game's low price, if you're undecided I'd say go for it, as it's a low investment gamble.
Well, I did enjoy the first three and a half hours of this game... until I got into a gamebreaking bug where I can not advance no matter what I do. And the fact that there is only one save means you would have to restart the game all the way over again and hope you don't run into the same bug and.... yeah. Just not worth it at this point. Oh well. C'est la vie.
I don't usually review, but I can't let this one slide
The thing is, the story is great. The concept is fantastic. However, it's bugged to hell. With the sheer amount of bugs and glitches in the game, it's clear that they didn't play test it fully before it was released, which is unacceptable. Also, it's been 3 years since they released the game, so I don't think it's going to be fixed. It's up to you to decide if you want to pay $11 for this beautiful mess of a game.
The concept of this game is amazing, but the the bugs make it unplayable. I have 8.9 hours in the game. I must have started the game 4 or 5 times over the course of a couple years. Every time, I tried to avoid the bugs. And I failed. I want to play this so badly.
I'm considering watching a YouTube let's play of this instead of playing it. It looks like someone made it to the end of the game somehow.
The story is good, the characters are very good. If this was simply a visual novel style FMV it would be a great game. However, a list of bugs I encountered
Time frozen on random days, had to exit out to menu and go back into game to get time moving
Research progress resetting to zero and refusing to progress until I added someone new to it...I almost couldn't get one of the research unlocks because of this.
Bar unlocking when I hadn't bought it (I think because I bought everything but the bar at that stage), unable to get the task completion for this even when I did go through the motions to open the bar
This game is technically playable, for the price I bought it at I'm not mad about it. However, most of this stuff should have come out at play testing, the odd day freezing is one thing but I had like 4 or 5 in a single run freeze on me.
I found this game charming in its way of being done - there are numerous bugs but none that I came across were game breaking I just had to restart the game twice. Many of the other bugs I came across were graphical or the bug that leads to a time freeze so the mini-games can be done to save up resources.
I rather enjoyed playing through the game and actively hunted down to embrace being completionist.
I thought it would be longer than it was plotwise which lead to me finishing the game with everything you can buy in game and still 600k credits and 113% mental cohesion.
yes, it has numerous of bugs and errors even for even the basic actions. I've noticed that if I was using K&M controls and then changed to controller or vice-versa some things would just stop working
Would not recommend.
I knew the game would have some bugs going into it but the story sounded interesting. Unfortunately the the bugs were too much. Very unpolished. 2/10
Really great storytelling, but even now there still exists so many bugs in the game that haven't been fixed. Thankfully none of them stop you from progressing, but it can still break the game in some silly ways.
I don;t regret buying and spending my time with the game, but I do hope that one day the developers manage to fix all of the bugs in the game, and if they ever decide to make a new game then to do some proper testing before a official release as it looks insanely amateurish.
Great game, light mix of management, point and click, and fmv adventure. I hope they make another game like this and refine it more, but good god! The bugs in this game are insane! I know they fixed a lot of them but there w ere just points when I couldn't progress and had to restart the game just to move forward in the game. Definitely fun, buy it on a sale. Definitely worth it at 8 bux or less :)
Nice and intriguing story.
Definitely a game to try it out. An interesting approach to telling a story through one persons eyes. Nice progression through the game with a nice pace. Nice concept, amazing visual art and representation about our minds. Definitely enjoyed the banter between the 2 main characters!
Give it a go!
I've only played a few hours of the game, but I like the premise. The story looks promising and I can't wait to get to the end, very unique concept!
Fantastic game from a debut developer - a wonderful mix of inner-brain management sim, psychological medical thriller, first-person FMV recuperate-'em-up, tie collector, and more.
Like all of us, it's very much more than the sum of its lovingly-realised minigame parts, and it's a pleasure to spend a few hours (literally) inside the head of its recently-comatose protagonist, bringing all the systems online, tinkering with a surprisingly hefty research and recruitment tree, and diving into an increasingly moving and compelling live-action story.
An excellent Hewlett-esque art style and a fab soundtrack round out a terrific package that makes the very best of an indie budget to produce something both ambitious and perfectly-sized, if you want to polish it all off in an evening.
The dev team have also proven very accessible and active after launch, with rapid patches speedily quashing bugs.
If you're up for something diverting, fun, interesting, and well put-together, Headspun is well worth taking for a spin - based on this, I'm very much looking forward to what Superstring do next!
Although I am ultimately reccommending this game, it should be known that IT HAS A LOT OF BUGS THAT CAN CAUSE YOU TO HAVE TO BACKTRACK. Sometimes upon opening and closing the tablet Ted will refuse to move. Sometimes the 'leave' option does not appear. Sometimes purchasing R&D projects freezes Ted in place. Usually saving and quitting fixes this but sometimes that isn't an option, and sometimes even after saving and restarting the game will jump around and teleport you somewhere. It's very confusing trying to figure out how much the game saved beforehand and the tablet isn't much help. Hopefully future updates will iron out these issues.
These criticisms aside, the game was a lot of fun. The story is relatable and full of heartache. The characters are interesting and I wish I'd had more time to get to know the staff. The game isn't very clear with how fast or slow time is progressing (you start around the beginning of January and end around the beginning of February).
Also: It might not be entirely obvious what kind of game this is from looking at the screenshots and reading the description. With the mention of lost memories (as well as the inclusion of FMV and Wales Interactive's track record of published games) you might think this game is similar to The Shapeshifting Detective, Contradiction, or even Her Story (not by Wales Interactive but has a robust 'memory retrieval' gameplay mechanic).
This is not the case.
This game is primarily a resource farming/ managing game similar to My Lovely Daughter or Frostpunk. Any mystery that is present takes a backseat. I imagine that there is probably 2 endings but I don't know for sure since there is only one save file.
I was hoping that there would be more involvement in the tracking down and retrieving of memories but I enjoyed the game nonetheless. Even though it fights so hard against being fun with all its bugs and glitches.
Totally recommend this game! Quirky and fun to play, unique gameplay and game mechanics, nice blend between 2d art and videos. Love the main characters design :D, they're cool, fun and interesting. Last but not least it's a very impressive one-man game, good job!
Thoroughly enjoying this exploration of the self and what it means to have a fit and healthy mind. Visually, the game radiates style and the FMV sections lend a sense of gravitas that compliments the more irreverent art direction and general gameplay tone nicely.
I did experience an initial visual bug at launch that was fixed within hours of release.
The game has been great ever since!
I'm enjoying this game, it's a really interesting concept! I've not seen a game that uses FMV in this way. It is cultishly retro, that for me is it's quirky charm and it should be judged on that basis. There are one or two bugs but it's a hell of a story. Thumbs up on the whole! Worth seeing through for the story reveals. Glad it's in my library.
+ music
+ story
- some awkward ui
- bit buggy
I really want to love this game, but it is not easy at the moment.
Plenty of bugs make it hard to play the game.
The first fix has bin dropped a day after release and made the videos play, but there is a lot of things, still.
If you want to give it a shot, use an controller - mouse does not work and you run into gamebreaking bugs if you do.
I recoment the game to the extend of waiting for an later time and you will enjoy it for sure.
The acters are great, the story is creative and the gameplay is fun.
I like the art-style and the sounds and music fit the scenario.
If it wouldn't be for the bugs - I would have had fun 4/10
Edit: My Review was written on 1st or 2nd of September 2019.
I notice that the Comunity Manager did reply to this and to be fair - that is the job of the Comunity-Manager. Sadly for this Review, I am not going to change my mind over it, just cause to the latest updates, since the game holds almost zero value of being played again. That said, I allready played through the game 5 times and not being willing to give it another shot.
I think that this game deserves good reviews as much as bad reviews, because it tells the truth.
I am not telling anyone to not buy the game NOW (whenever that is) I just wanted to prevent them from buying an Beta-Phase game. Sadly it happens to often these days, that Games get published without being ready, thanks to scedules or money-problems.
It is sad, but true that almost no game gets the high rank of 9/10 when freshly published.
I do not know if this is caused by the industry or if it is presure by the consumers or elsewhat, but it happens with almost every release.
Thanks to the conection to the web and harddrives in consoles, this trend even got bigger, giving someone an 60GB download for a game and an 12GB Update the day after release.
Yes, Computers work with plenty of different Graphik-Cards and ROMs and Motherboards.. still, this also happens on Consoles where one is like the other.
My review might be irrilevant by now, but it was the truth of the hour.
I only wanted to clearyfy that. - and also, I just spoke from my heart and did no correction on the text. English is not my born language, so please excuse my typos.
The concept's interesting and the story really seems like it's going somewhere good, but the game itself is buggy as F_U_C_K. Don't buy unless they bring out patches/bug fixes.
