When three NYU students kill themselves one after the other, nobody thinks that a sinister force is at work. Nobody but fledgling medium Rosa Blackwell and her new spirit guide Joey Mallone. It's trial by fire as they set these troubled spirits to rest.

This game was so frustrating. The characters were unlikeable, the plot was illogical, and it's very short, with an abrupt and unsatisfying ending. The puzzles were completely insane logic, like, sure, I'll just go back to the psychiatric hospital to steal some diuretic pills so that I can drug my neighbor's dog into needing to pee so I can take it to a ghost girl who likes dogs, because that will convince the ghost girl that she's dead. Obviously. Who wouldn't think "now where can I steal some diuretic pills?" when trying to figure out how to convince a ghost girl she's dead? Several puzzles required you to go back into a location immediately after the game had just made you leave that location, because nothing makes me think 'I should keep investigating this location" like the game removing me from said location.
I love point and click adventure games, I've played dozens of the classics, I've enjoyed a few other Wadjet Eye games, and I do not understand why this game has a reviews rating of "very positive". It'll only take you two hours to play but there are so many better things you could do with those two hours.
A well-made point-and-click with highs and lows. On the better side, the music and graphics were nice and atmospheric, and the story was intriguing with some very well-written character moments. This narrative has me hooked, and I'm excited for the next games in the series. The commentary gave me a deeper appreciation for how much work goes into these types of games, and improved the quality of the work overall.
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the puzzles as much. At best they were serviceable, and at worst stupidly obtuse. The worst offender was when I went into a victim's dorm room to investigate her belongings and interrogate her roommate. At one point I thought I knew what I had to do but (without giving it away) there was no option given for me to do it. So I left the room, thinking I'd come back later with new knowledge, but leaving the room prompted my companion to tell me to go back in there and try again. So I did. Again, found nothing. Again, left the room. And again, my companion INSISTS that I'm just missing something and should go back in. Rinse and repeat several times until I give in and look up a walkthrough, and lo and behold I was right the first time, I needed to go all the way back to my own apartment and choose a specific dialogue option with my companion, then go back to the investigation in order to solve the puzzle. The game straight-up gaslit me into thinking I had everything I needed right there in that room. None of the other puzzles are quite that comically bad/misleading, but many are still too obtuse in a very 'adventure game' way.
So I'd say the game is worth your time if you like point-and-clicks, and I loved it in the end. This genre tends to scratch a specific itch and this one does that very well (most of the time...)
Amazingly written game. It is short but sweet, and I really like how the puzzles are done, and the entire notepad kind of questioning thing, gives really good detective vibes. Finished it in two days, and had a blast with it. Will totally reccomend it!
I absolutely love all these classic style adventures I keep discovering! This one’s another delightful throwback to the golden age of point ‘n’ click, pixel-art games, and as someone who grew up with classics like Monkey Island and Broken Sword, I found it to be a refreshing and nostalgic experience.
The story is engaging enough, blending mystery, humor, and heartfelt moments, with a socially awkward journalist as the protagonist, who, I have to admit, was not easy for me to identify with at first, but slowly and surely, she grew on me.
The graphics are simple, nothing fancy, with a kind of jazzy soundtrack that adds an atmospheric touch. Sure, the voice acting is occasionally uneven, but still, it breathes life into the characters.
Puzzles are mostly straightforward, focusing on combining clues and dialogue rather than obscure logic, so they won’t be much of a challenge for veteran adventure gamers. Pity that it’s extremely short, but at least this length keeps the pacing tight and leaves you eager for more.
For fans of old-school adventures, The Blackwell Legacy is a love letter to the genre: modern enough to be accessible but classic in its soul. It’s a great start to a series, and I can’t wait to play the sequels!
I'm just going to write the same review for all the Blackwell games....Please PLEASE play this whole series you will not regret it. I legitimately cannot pick a favorite I love these games and ghosts.
♦ 100% Completion Review ♦
Outline:
▪ The Blackwell Legacy is an old Adventure game. It was a pet project made in the early 2000s in AGS (Adventure Games Studio) and it shows. It's not that there's naught to like in the game, but it is pretty janky, short, often annoying, and rough around the edges.
Gameplay:
▪ It is your standard Adventure game fare. Point here, click there, solves puzzles. It's overall fairly plain and intuitive. I never really felt particularly challenged or puzzled except for one or two points in which the mechanics, or rather controls, of the game weren't clear. The game uses a note-based deduction system which is cool but wholly under utilised.
Story:
▪ As revealed in the outline this isn't a game for big expectations. There isn't so much a story as there is contextualisation for what is going on. Meeting the characters and so on is fine enough, but don't expect an actual story to sink your teeth into.
Characters & Writing:
▪ I think it's clear, especially after listening to the developer's commentary that a good deal of thought went in the writing. However, as the developer would admit, mistakes were made in his early learning period. The characters and the writing are one part serviceable, one part interesting, and one part tonally weird and off-putting.
Visuals:
▪ It's something of a mixed bag. All serviceable graphics. Some more pleasant or interesting that others.
Music & Sound:
▪ Easily one of the biggest drawbacks of the game is the sound. The music is just awful in every way. The pieces are unpleasant compositions, they're levelled very poorly (I hope you like kick drums!), they are on another planet tonally speaking to the scenes they're used in, and they're mixed so high in the output with no way to adjust the level. It's hard to make out a lot of dialogue because you have this obnoxious, bizarre music blasting at you. Some very strange choices here.
Also the dialogue is very rough around the edges. Not only in delivery but in recording and production.
Achievements:
▪ Half progression, half meta goals. Fine enough. I will add that one involves replaying the game with the developer commentary. Something that would be very annoying typically, but it's such a short game that it's no big deal and listening to the commentary was actually quite entertaining.
Verdict:
▪ This was a small AGS game from what feels like a life or two ago. So it's hard to criticise it all that much. I tend to be pretty generous with my positive reviews. Even games that have rubbed me up the wrong way I'll often give a positive review if there's some redeeming quality. My conception is that if I consider the title to be in the top 50% of games of its genre, I'll give it a thumbs up. This game is not that, which is why I've chosen to give it a negative review.
I bought the entire Blackwell series in a bundle and intend to play them all through. There must be something more to enjoy if they ran on for five games in total. If when I get to the end of the series I consider the series to be in the top 50% as a complete experience, I will leave an edit and change this to a positive review to compel others to give it a try.
It's a good time. You play a medium who helps ghosts. Short game, great story, incredible music. I got a lot of game play just listening to the music.
I recommend because the story is good and the characters are well designed; one somehow develops a relationship with them. However, the music on each scene is loud and not fitting (not bad music, just not fitting and sometimes so loud that you can hardly hear the voices). You cannot mute the music so one of the few places were you can get some peace in your head is at the elevator's hall at Rosangela's flat. I am a fan of Blackwell series so, I recommend the game nonetheless.
A good story, well told
Pretty good, although a little shorter than I was expecting. Voice acting was of below average quality, but the dialogue is otherwise fine. I didn't end up having to look for a guide at any point but still found the puzzles challenging and satisfying, especially since very little of it is about using objects on other objects, its mostly about talking to be people and collecting clues which gives it a nice Mystery feel.
Excellent

Interesting, melancholy little story. Good characters, many of them jerks, which feeds into themes of alienation hurting others because you yourself are hurt. Would've liked more settings, like a windowed option and a click-to-progress-dialogue (instead of the default auto-progress-dialogue) option.
First entry in the Blackwell series. Legacy is a short game at around 2 hours and the puzzles are solved by either talking or combining clues. It is a breeze difficulty wise. The story, characters and voice acting are great, but there are only a few locations to visit. A short n’ sweet old school point and click that really opens up as the series continues in 4 additional games.
Loved it, and I'm hungry for more! I like the pixelated artstyle and the atmosphere it gives. The narrations of the characters are also okay, and I prefer most point and click games to have voice acting.
8/10
Medium hard short detective title with a charming story
While not my first in the genre, it's definitely the first older one I've played. It's very 90s-esque, but in a charming kind of way, from the way the buildings look, to the music that accompanies each scene. Really enjoyed the bite-sized adventure angle of it. Feels like you're reading a detective-novel series.
Something I didn't expect was how funny it would be, both with the writing and voice acting. Definitely let out an audible snort here and there.
Definitely recommend checking out if you're either into the point-and-click genre and just looking for a cool, spooky detective story.
Excellent story and series.
Blackwell TV series when?
I have the Blackwell parody games.
