EDIT - I've changed the review to 'Recommended' now, after figuring out some ways of making the game a little easier (and I just completed the campaign as a result).
- Each time you visit a town, the save game icon appears along the bottom - USE IT!
- If you can recruit any of the units who do physical damage on one turn AND magic damage on their second - recruit them!
- The game is quite enjoyable when you don't feel like you're doomed from the start, although I did experience a weird bug where once I equipped some items, I couldn't remove them.
This game is absolutely brutal in terms of difficulty.
On Normal difficulty, I've had to restart 8 different playthroughs within 4 hours, because the game just keeps throwing impossible battles at me based on the stage I'm at - e.g. whilst all my characters are level 1, I'm thrown against level 3 enemies on a tile that wasn't even a battle tile (like a food tile for example).
I've tried different compositions and recently made it to have 6 level 5-6 characters, only to get to a new map and get my ass kicked on the first battle by 3 Elemental enemies that each seem to get two turns to attack all of my characters at once for over 40% of their damage (yup.....so i have to take 160% of my characters health as damage, and can't do anything at all to stop it).
Definitely feels like it wasn't tested enough by some players before being released.
Then again, I'm a glutton for punishment and I don't particularly mind getting my ass kicked to start with, so long as my playthroughs get longer and longer each time.
Will give this game a few more tries before I delete it for good based on it being impossible with too many of the RNG odds being stacked way against you.
Grim Wanderings is a game that is derived from the gameplay of Disciples 1 & 2. You have a map broken down into various destinations that you can visit to explore and grow your small party of characters. On this map you will have objectives to pursue and complete for some overarching mission. You have 5 races to play including Orcs, Humans, Elves, Undead, and Dwarves. There are also a lot of other non-playable races in the game too.
Probably what is most interesting about this game is its artstyle. The characters depicted here a very 'warped' feeling to them. I will note though that the spelling and grammar for the game could be a tad better. UI and presentation are very simple - you won't see the 'battles' like you would in Disciples, just the simple attack animation being played and the damage numbers of who has been hit.
The game was made first on Android devices before being ported over onto the PC. In generally the game works fine on either platform. You can play it for free on Android devices, although with advertisements; it might be worth checking out with your phone first to see if you might be interested in the game.
A worthy game to kill a little time with and not worth that much to buy.
At some point in gaming, it became fashionable to make needlessly difficult games. This is one such game. On normal difficulty, you will REGULARLY encounter opposition far and away more powerful than your group within the first couple of turns. Although you can sometimes survive such encounters, your game will then be crippled since the game uses food and gold to constrict your progress and recovering from such an encounter erodes your supply of both. Even if you do manage to overcome such an encounter, there are even more ridiculous encounters in store. It's only a matter of time before you encounter opposition against which you have ZERO chance. Easy mode is not noticeably easier. This game is not at all balanced. It seems as if it were programmed by a single person without the resources for any kind of play testing.
As a long time Disciples fan, I have to say I love this game :) The game has a lot of choices for unit customisation and several races and hero types. It does seem a bit too easy once you learn the game and level up your troops, and could use the HARD difficulty. I love the diversity of the same type hero for different races with subtle differences, makes the game fun :) If you are fan of Disciples 1&2, you will love this game, and at this price, it's a great deal! I have finished the game with all 4 hero types and all races but the orcs, and I got some fun 25 hours in the game before I can say I saw most of the content and moved on.
Easy mode? I constantly die on easy, it's feels like extreme hardcore mode. Probably because my back-row dies in 1 or 2 shots and I miss far, far more than 80% of my attacks. Constantly getting kicked in the nards is not my idea of a good time
Cheap version of Disciples II, minus the map. Instead you maneuver over a grid. Battles are very similar. LIked it.
Sometimes you get what you pay for. And this game is exactly that.
Poor graphics, poor interface, cryptic symbols that don't make sense.
Totally unenjoyable to play. Don't waste your time or money.
This game is a diamond in the rough.
Pros:
- The gameplay is fun overall
- Tons of replayability
- The map system is clever and works well
- The battle system is good, creature classes are relevant and strategic decisions matter. Battles feel balanced without being too easy or outright impossible.
- Resource management is a bit basic but relatively balanced and functional.
The overall game formula is great and well put together. That said, there are some Cons:
- The UI, as others have said, is very clunky.
- The graphics don't do the game justice. Game icons, map icons, portraits, everything would benefit from an overhaul. The portraits themselves are a mixed bag, they have great mood and are clever/fit the theme, however they are brought down by excessive photoshop-like effects and some are quite a bit better than others. The game icons and map icons are rather generic packs and this shows. They are also not obvious enough with regards to what they represent.
- The sound can be a bit better quality, however this is minor compared to the UI and graphics.
- It would be great to have even more unit and character progression, the cap seems to be reached rather quickly.
Overall I enjoy this game and I think it has great potential, certainly worth the money in its current state. If the UI and graphics are improved and some tweaks are made, this game could be amazing.

As soon I realized it does resemble Disciples 2: Rise of the Elves combat system (that I love and enjoy to play) I kept playing it... then I just hit some new content in the game and searched for some Guide...instead I found out, it is sold also on Steam.
I bought it right away (without putting it on my wishlist and waiting 22000 years till it drops below 50%, what I usually do)
On PC the visuals look even better (small 5" screen has its limitations after all) and the GUI is also better (touch screen has its limitations as well)
I can choose to play from 5 races (Undead, Elves, Human, Orcs, Demons) - Orcs being the new playable race (compared to D2)
What this game lacks in 2D or 3D world map (as you move in between squares -> like in chess) returns to player with extra thrill factor. Ecnounters can be anticipated, but never predicted.
You can save only in cities... so as a plyaer you perceive any risks with increased impact (like playing poker with matches versus with real money)
So despite my (not few) rage-quits... I still did return to latest save, tediously fought through the mostly same battles (some are randomized on the same square, some are not), and better prepare.
Better prepare (when you know your enemy):
re-arrange, change the equipment, use temporary potions (+ initiative, + damage, +resistance...)
and when you finally defaet the stronger enemy, the joy is overwhelming.
Visuals : very unique, atmosferic and fitting the world. Quite artistic and refreshing (in world where we try to make all look the same, this is something I embrace a lot!)
Random encounters: no matter how good your party is..you can enter a pyramid, one of your units is auto-killed and you are asked, ifyou want to play... if you refuse, you have to ressurect your unit + heal...if you join the game, you may lose -> the dead unit vanishes for good (cannot be ressurected) and other unit(s) get demoted + damaged (who played D2 or even D3, knows well how important is to have all units promoted as high as possible)
Extra feature compared to D2: you can develop (promote) units in different paths (while in D2, your path was hard-set by the buildings you bought in the castle). So as long you have enough money / food for the promotion, you can promote 3 archers in 3 different specializations (expanding the tactical possibilities)
Strongly advised to anyone, who likes challenge, has a thing for artistic paintings and did like Disciples 1, 2.
Cons:
typos, translation mistakes (minor), rage quits, additctiveness.
Very interesting graphics, game mechanics and all. Good game.
This game is actually pretty good.
There are two blaring cons that you can see straight away. First the UI isn't all that great and feels clonky. Secondly the art is extremely weird. Almost psychedelic in fact.
But if you look beyond that you can see a relatively cheap game that has amazing replayability, balanced gameplay and feaseable resource management.
Also, don't be fooled by there not being an undead mage. The undead archer is in fact the mage, just that characters are classified into warrior (if the attack the nearest enemy) mage (If they attack all enemy units) and archer (if they attack any unit)
