Pleasant horror short story.
is Anita still single?
asking for a friend
Wonderful, short experience! You can definitely tell this was by the same developers as MiSide. Interesting plotline that isn't too cryptic but also doesn't reveal too much, leaving some details up to the player to decide. Definitely recommend!
This game is very short and doesn’t give you the full story, but that’s fine because I think that’s the point—it lets you fill in the gaps yourself, which makes it quite simple.
Unfortunately, in my first five minutes, I managed to walk through a door and fall into the void, but that’s just because I tried every possible gap.
Visually, the game is far from a graphical masterpiece, but I’ve always felt that games with this kind of aesthetic give me a stronger feeling than ones that aim for realism.
I wouldn’t really call this game horror—more like... weird? I’m not even sure how to describe it.
Even though it only lasts about an hour, I’d say it’s a good game overall. 7/10.
better than miside
Even though I got no-clipped into the darkness, this game is still decent for RM2(~0.5$) at discounted price. The game was short and the story's interesting(at least for me). 100% would smash that tall woman. I wish the game was scarier tho. Anyway, I have been stuck in the darkness for over 30 hours now, pls send help.
in middle of the game i literally no clipped to backrooms while streaming but besides that game is like early and more creepy version of miside. it has interesting story but there is no much to talk about since game is very very short (personally i like short games) but its good for a game that has 45 min to 1 hour playtime
long story short if you are searching for short horror game with good story i think you can give this game a try
Its not very scary but I really enjoyed the story.
.
3 minutes in and I fell through a door with no collision.
Actual review : game is really rough around. like. REALLY rough. it drops fps at the most random times and despite having over 150 fps at all times it still feels like it chugs.
However this game definitely had a lot of love put into it. Its fun, its interesting, its mysterious. If anything I wish the story was a little bit more easy to understand.
Not much to say, its just kinda, weird.
Some pretty cool concepts well executed here.
decent considering the price
it's fine. just fine
more along the lines of a walking simulator with jumpscares than anything substantial in terms of character writing or story, but it's at least above par compared to most of the shlock you find in that kind of genre.
paints itself as a "star-crossed lovers torn apart by their mistakes" sort of angle, but it really just plays out as "10 interdimensional wives and a bunch of meat-monsters wander around your house while you try to get some goddamn work done" more like.
will say though, if you don't get this on sale for less than $2 you are guaranteed being ripped off. barely played it an hour and i was already done, and even the store page says it won't last you longer than 2 hours. the model gallery is neat and there's a tiny bit of replayability but hardly enough to warrant full price
The machine introduced at the beginning, the one our protagonist is trying to activate, will already feel familiar to those who have played MiSide. Much like in that game, our task here is straightforward: we scour the house for objects such as batteries and water to piece together a machine that rips apart time and space, bringing our experiment to life. Since object-hunting in MiSide still feels a bit rough around the edges, it’s even more exasperating in this game. The lack of proper hints makes locating items a cumbersome experience that often ends up in furiously clicking on everything that even vaguely resembles something interactable. Though the game generally uses light to hint at your destination, it doesn’t explicitly tell you what to do, which can sometimes become a little frustrating.
The protagonist’s plodding pace intensifies the tedium, his movements are maddeningly slow. I assume this was intended to heighten the impact of the jump scares, which, surprisingly, succeed more often than not, but jump scares do not a good horror game make, and Umfend, while it introduces some rudimentary ideas that later promoted MiSide to relevancy, still lacks the distinctive quality that would set it apart from the sea of other indie horror games.
The story tries to combine romance and horror, but it doesn’t quite pull it off. The non-linear narrative explores why the ghost is so obsessed with the protagonist, urging him to remember what happened during the early stages of his experiments. While the concept shows potential, it falls short of being fully realized, albeit it proved to be a solid foundation for the creators to expand on.
The scares are executed in a decidedly uninspired fashion; the methods used to frighten are neither innovative nor surprising. Most elements, such as upside-down chairs stuck to the ceiling or sudden movements of grotesque figures have been done countless times before. Yet, the game compensates for this lack of creativity with its extraordinary sound design. The auditory elements imbue even the most tired tropes with a sense of tension that salvages the game from succumbing into utter mediocrity.
Visually, the game is quite unremarkable, though it does feature a pixelated mode that I found much more charming. Even so, I opted to play in the default mode, which, while far from aesthetically pleasing, suffices for what the game sets out to do. My only technical grievance lay with the resolution settings, which refused to cooperate, but beyond this issue, I encountered no major bugs. However, others have reportedly clipped through locked doors and fallen into the void, which then I managed to replicate, so be careful with that.
In summary, should you play Umfend? The answer is yes, but only if you grab it on sale for a dollar. At full price, Umfend doesn’t quite deliver enough to warrant the investment, given its roughly 40-minute runtime. Fans of MiSide will likely appreciate exploring the foundation established here, though it’s best to view Umfend as a conceptual prototype rather than a standalone experience.

This game inspired by miside's producers I can say this even look at games details. So I like it but game is s0 short. I waiting more lengt games.
Having played both MiSide and Umfend, I think I can see some connections between these two games (even though they are not connected in any shape or form) and I believe that this was made before MiSide so that makes sense. I don't know what I would have thought if I played Umfend and then MiSide but I enjoyed playing it. It has some "horror" aspects but its a story based game. Definitely give this game a try.
absolutely worth a try if you enjoyed miside
Words can't describe how depressed I am after finishing this game
I'm not really sure if Umfend is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself.
This is pushed on Steam by serial Russian shovelware pushers, Volens Nolens Games/QuiQuoPro/Nedo Studio. These guys do nothing but copy premade game templates and game tutorials, fill out a few things/stamp out basic levels using the construction kit templates, slap on an asset flipped set of sprites/assets, and dump them on Steam and into cheap nasty shovelware game bundles as cash grabs. Trying to get paid for someone else's game templates, assets... at best, this is shovelware, at worst, it's a scam/cash grab.
It's also worth noting some of Volens Nolens shell accounts like "QuiQuoPro" were banned from Steam for trading card farming and manipulation... just to make sure you know where this game comes from, which will help you understand what it is, and why therefore you should not want to buy it. Because reviews are about the game, not the shady developers behind it. Let's go into why this is an awful game.
Umfend is a simple first person puzzle aventure game kitbashed together with Unity, with some very poor quality assets, very clunky sluggish controls, practically zero polish, and it's only about an hour long. Which is amazing considering the price, but not quite so amazing when you consider who the "developer" is.
There's a vague and pointless "plot" about a "glass sphere" breaking, which is a weird way to describe a "ho hum the supernatural happened and now there's ghosts" plotline. So you explore a basic, badly slapped together "house" thing and do some puzzles... it's a major yawnfest, and the clumsy, minimum viable product technical implementation makes the whole experience thoroughly unpleasant.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?
Umfend is relatively cheap at $10 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
It's important to note that, despite this being such a low quality product, there's a number of positive reviews that all appeared immediately after the game launched, from suspiciously inactive Steam accounts that have reviewed almost no other games apart from this, all in Russian or broken English. Take the review score of this game with a grain of salt.
An hour or two hour long horror experience for only 79 cents! Like a ton of other people, I got it after playing Miside. It was fun, I liked the weird stuff a lot.
Good game, had some issues with bugs that greatly extended the playtime because there’s no checkpoints so we had to entirely restart.
Note: don’t run into any locked doors, you’ll fall into the void.
i played this because i really enjoyed miside and was curious to other things they have made. some of the things in this game reminds me of miside, especially the beginning. the beginning of this game is kinda like the beginning of the chapter "im in the game?" in miside. this game shows that they have improved a lot but their potential to make a really good game like miside was always there. for 79 cents this is an amazing game
great horror romance story 👍
Nice short game, atmosphere works great.
Great game. It is very similar to MiSide and it takes aroun 1h to complete. It has some easter eggs and collectables. Def worth it! <3333
got it it for 0.79 very good like it alot
(Fix door plis)
actually played it months before miside, came back to see lot of reviews mentioning miside yet i still haven't finished miside by the time i'm writing this review.
also for honest review, it's alright for short horror game about crazy girlfriend.
I bought it because there was a reference to the character Anita in Miside.
That little goblin thing that runs around on the floor gave me a heart attack. 10/10 would let the goblin run at me again.
very short to complete (even finding all collectables), but still a great bite sized horror romance story. Definitely has the same eerie horror as MiSide if that's why you are checking this out.
After playing MiSide I wanted to know more about the developer and came upon Umfend. I really wish I would of played this game years ago. It is a treat to play and I highly recommend it!
The game is little rough as the entire progression isn't always clear or smooth. And you can find areas where you fall off the map which requires you to back out to the main menu. It was wild to see how far AIHASTO has come from this to MiSide. Overall wanted to get it to support the devs while the new MiSide content is being developed. Worth it on a sale for a bizarre experience but could be frustrating at full price.
The game is very interesting, it's clear that the developers tried their best, but I have one request: fix the door. UwU
Alpha version of MiSide
Came from Miside. Really good game. Short and concise, actually spooked me a bit too.
Played this after Miside and was impressed with story even tho it was short. Main menu was awesome too i honestly play it in the backround just to listen to it. Starting wire lips and eco hole next. Also love the umfend doll in miside.
While short and simple. It is well executed. I did fall out of the map about 5 minutes in cause i just walked through a closed door. but other than that it was good. The story is typical "lost your memory" stuff and you piece it together as you go. found all the collectables on my first play through. Nice little "horror" game, more of a horror vibe.
Only problem is that the beginning chapter is a bit confusing to navigate around, and you can fall through the last room on the hallway. The rest is very good. Game is pretty scary, but the story is what makes me love this game. And a lot of ideas in this game are used in Miside, which is pretty cool to see.
Eh, slow walking, would have liked to play more but the mouse smoothing makes literally everything you interact with and look at tedious. I missed a few moments that i think are supposed to bring up tension or dread due to this smoothing issue. I would love to fully experience the game, though while i could deal with just the slow walking or the smoothing, I cannot deal with both at the same time. If the dev or a clever player figures out how to disable the smoothing issue, I will rewrite this review for the actual story as the game play will be functional enough to make it through.
The gameplay is confusing at times despite the lighting indication, unlocking all the item give you all the lore but i don't think there's a alternative ending like other AIHASTO games, for the price it's worth it.
It's where the weird chibi figure in Miside came from, if you like that game you should play this one, to see what their game looks like in the past.
I liked "Mita" game and bought several...
And this thing is trying to be something smart, but all the smart just misses me...
Didn't see anything it it.
can't save the game, so many small bugs which force restart on the entire game (falling to the void), the guy you play as is a slow walker, ugly gf; no wonder why the game is listed as horror
I just love it a romantic-horror game (perfect)
Confusing. I have to say the best works from AIHASTO are WireLips and Miside, try those instead which are REALLYY GOOD. This was one of his first works on steam, So I have nothing to say as he improved really much.
I didn’t get anything from this, but I could feel his creativity during some parts
Anyway I give it a positive, get it on discount
A melancholic little horror piece in which you hunt down spooky ghost gf so she'll stop breaking the Lego replica of the lab from Half-Life lab you're building in your garage. Honestly, I thought the premise was much more interesting than the execution in this one. There's a sad and lonely type of vibe going on as you gradually uncover why this anime girl keeps hiding your things and turning the lights off in your bungalow, but ultimately I think the game isn't polished enough to justify its price point, given the many more-impressive sub-£10 horror games on Steam. There are jumpscares but they're very gentle, and the entities don't really come across as hostile, so if you're looking to be scared this might not be the right place. A couple of times something interesting happens never to be explained or repeated - shout out to the super-long arm retracting from the garage doorway, or the pseudo-minigame where you prepare chunks of weird meat for a skinless goblin creature to eat. The environment isn't very large, with the majority of the action taking place within the boundaries of the protagonist's house and garden, although right at the end there's also a classroom to visit. I think claustrophobic horror can be effective, but the entities were a bit too cutesy and I never felt like I was under any real threat. I don't think any of them can actually harm you so there's no reason not to run straight towards them - in fact, you usually have to if you want to progress. Talking of progress, on a couple of occasions I had to return to a location I'd already visited to trigger an event or transition after I didn't stand in exactly the right spot the first time. I didn't mind the narrative itself (tfw no gf because science got her) but I think it deserved a better game than "find the small objects in your house to trigger the next safe-scary jumpscare and then be teleported into the next room with the lights off". That isn't a criticism of the genre - some of my favourite games are on-rails experiences and horror-themed walking sims - but the game actually began to feel repetitive by the end despite its short length. It wasn't until I finally got out of the house and into the school area at the end that the story began to have any emotional impact and by then I was starting to view the girl as a pest rather than someone I wanted to pursue. Overall a thumbs sideways type of game for me.
A very cool and well done horror game. There were a few jumpscares but the most ones were very predictable, which isnt bad. The whole horror was mostly the weird and eerie feelinig. The style of the game was really cool and well made and the story was really nice. I liked it through and through. Its full price is a bit much, considering it took me about an hour of playing it. Id say it worth around 5 bucks. But still very nice and very well made. I can highly recommend it
