I really wanted to like this game but the puzzles is sometimes hard to understand. But my breaking point is where I can't rotate the lines they want you to turn and it stands NOWHERE what to press. I tried every key on my keyboard for with no result.
A cute little escape room game filled with magic and mayhem! A lot of classic point-and-click logic to work through with an inventive story and fun graphics. While the interface and click windows can be clumsy, its a fun little adventure with the best friend a gal can have - a talking book!
“Tower of Beatrice” is a fantasy-themed and humorous escape-adventure-puzzle game, revolving around a magical book that you’re initially sent to steal, only to find out that the book has a will of her own and locks you up in her tower. The goal is to escape the tower by solving puzzles on each floor on the way down, accompanied by mocking commentaries of the Beatrice-book that you continue to carry. On the technical side the game is far from perfect, graphics feel a bit clunky and it’s difficult to spot active areas. Puzzles are not exactly trivial and the game offers only limited hints, but if you beat them your perseverance will be rewarded by quite a funny plot twist. The price for the game is quite favorable, well worth the fun you will have if you like this type of games.
I really wanted to like this game but it's just terrible. The puzzles which that's all there is....are just stupid. Really stupid. It suffers from design although the presentation is very good. It tries to interact with you with a little story. It's a series of escape rooms but as usual that puzzlews are just obtuse and bad and it often is hard to figure out what to click on. There are hints to rectify this but they pretty much give things away.
A THINKING KIND OF GAME
The Tower of Beatrice is an Escape the Room Adventure and one incredibly entertaining game. A game btw, that I had to use actual thought processes to solve the not-so-obvious puzzles that would help me escape the clutches of a sarcastic witch named Beatrice. Surely Beatrice has placed a spell on someone because this game is too good to be true, and YES, this was an instant purchase for me!
Who's Beatrice? That's a good question! All I know is that she's an arrogant Witch with a great sense of humor and she lived at the top of a terrifying Tower and nobody has seen her for years. I mistakenly fell for one of her bewitching tricks and now I am at the top of the witch's tower trying to escape while she taunts my every move!
The goal is to search the room for inventory items and ingredients that you will need to make various potions, solve tricky puzzles, and fix things that have been broken for years...all while trying to outwit Beatrice who seems to be testing you at times rather than taunting you. Where's Beatrice, you may ask? Well, she somehow managed to cast a spell that placed her inside a Potions & Spellbook, a book you will definitely need if you want to escape!
If you get stuck, you can click on the Question Mark in the Top Left Corner. This will show you all areas of interest by placing question marks on them but it will never tell you where to look...you have to THINK your way out! If you click on a specific Question Mark, you will get a more specific hint, but again, this game is designed to make you think about how to escape as if you were actually locked in Beatrice's Tower. Beatrice is never going to tell you what to do, so if you don't like to problem-solve, you probably won't like this game!
Eventually, you will be armed with your Spellbook, as well as a Cauldron to mix various potions. You will have to decide which potion or spell is needed for each situation and most of the "spells" require mixing them in a specific order. I did have a little bit of difficulty at times, clicking on inventory items to use them, sometimes I had to click 2-3 times before they could be picked up (wait until the box they sit in turns white) but other than that, I had no issues and the graphics were set to "fantastic" on the settings page.
I highly recommend this game...but then again, I'm probably still under Beatrice's spell!
The Tower of Beatrice was a fun but occasionally frustrating puzzle adventure game.
The game leans more towards the point-and-click style than the exploration focused games like Myst. Most of the puzzle areas are fairly contained, and using objects from your inventory is key. Most of the puzzles were good, but I occasionally hit some that utterly baffled me. I needed a guide for those, because I was never going to guess that.
The setting and plot were amusing backdrops for the adventure. I enjoyed the surreal characters you meet along the way, and the final room made me laugh. Overall I enjoyed my time traversing the tower, but I recommend being willing ot check a guide if you get stumped.
I enjoyed the game after I found both a text an a YouTube walkthrough. If there are enough clues available to solve the puzzles, I couldn't find them, so I had to rely on the walkthrough. But the walkthroughs weren't always enough since they left out parts which I then had to figure out for myself.
With all of this said, I enjoyed passing the time with this game.
It was ok, but I would still not recommend this game. Half the issues could be solved with a better translation and interface. The other half is non-intuitive puzzle design.
Cute looking game with some good and some bad puzzles.
Interface is clumsy, especially in the inventory (lower part of the screen). I had to click at the bottom half of items for it to register as a correct click.
I did like the puzzles at the start, but halfway through room 3 (out of 6) I got really annoyed at these weird chalkboard 'puzzles' in that room and how bad the UI was when trying to interact with certain objects. It's also the first room where I encountered a bug causing me to miss an important clue for the next puzzle.
Can anyone explain to me the logic behind these chalkboard puzzles? Especially the yellow one. I really don't see it.
While each room doesn't necessarily take too much time to complete, there is no save option and there are no checkpoints. The game remembers the room you're in, but not the progress you've made.
A mixed bag with issues.
Unless you have time to spare, do not get it. It is one of those "you can only save at certain points. If you get out before that, then you lose all your work".
Which means that if you HAVE to go, because you are supposed to be at a certain place, or have more urgent business, tough luck.
I like the puzzles. I like thinking about it. I do not like when solving a problem takes time and I have other things to do.
Developers, newsflash! We do NOT have all the time in the world. Your game IS NOT a priority in our lives. If we cannot get out when we want or need to, and resume when we come back, then we resent wasting our time.
I wish Steam had a better rating system than thumbs up or down because this game falls somewhat in the middle. I really did not enjoy it, but it wasn't so bad that I would down-vote it and hurt its reputation. The positive is that it has a wide variety of puzzles, many of which are not immediately intuitive, so some puzzle-goers may really enjoy it. That said, the puzzles and controls were buggy for me (playing on PC), so I'd have to click on things many times before items would select properly- and this happened constantly. The result was I just felt tired of clicking and really frustrated at never knowing whether errors in puzzles were user error vs. game error. I also did not enjoy the disconnect between maturity of the narrative & atmosphere and the puzzles. The dialogue and environment are clearly for young children, but the but the puzzle solutions are not. The result was a game that just did not flow well and with which I just couldn't make myself care or engage. The game wasn't for me, but if what bothered me about it are details that won't faze you, then you may really enjoy it, which is why I'm still sticking with the thumbs up.
Very fun and unique take on escape the room puzzles. In this game, an interesting story with wonderfully funny dialog has been added instead of random, standalone rooms. Beatrice had me laughing numerous times lol. I liked the puzzles- which weren't too hard- and the cryptic hint system. Perfect for someone who wants only a gentle nudge in the right direction. I saw another reviewer say its a hidden object game- it really isn't. True, there were ingredients scattered around that you have to pick up for spells, but it's normally only one item and there's no laundry list like in HOGs. One thing to note I thought was a little strange, there's no way to save that I found, but you can restart each chapter/room from the start menu. So, I recommend stopping after you've advanced to a new room but haven't done anything yet.
Overall, I loved it! Wish it were longer! (My bad if I missed the save option!)
More challenging and satisfying than it first seems. A good puzzler with somewhat immature narrative. A few slight bugs (puzzles you've solved continue to react to you for a while, then stop), but nothing that interferes with play. Has a decidedly dated feel to it, but the fun is in solving the puzzles. We did resort to a walkthrough, though it seems like you could solve all of them without one if you were persistent.
Clever puzzles, pretty art, no time pressure, complete game easily done in one sitting, and it has achievements: this game hits all the pluses for me. :)

The game is wonderful, complicated in some instances, but fun all the same, some minor differences to note between the switch and the steam edition. The Switch edition seems to have grammatical errors I have not noticed in the Steam version.
The world's first audiobook is butthurt. Why? Because not only is it sentient, it recognizes that youare a formidable opponent, capable of escaping its beloved tower by progressing from the top down. And folks--this is a pre-elevator world we're dealing with here.
The Good:
- Each room in the tower is self-contained and has a series of puzzles you have to solve in order to progress.
- Each room has its own musical theme. The music fits well and doesn't get annoying even though you hear the same track on each floor.
- Interesting and unique art style.
- A decent amount of challenge here.
The Neutral:
- Unlike many HOGs/adventure games, you can continue to interact with zones that do not have more tasks to complete.
The Bad:
- The English translations are really hit or miss. You'll get the general idea of what they're trying to say.
- The save system works on a per-room basis. If you progress through a room by 50% and decide you want to quit, you will NOT pick up where you left off.
Pro Tips:
- Experimentation is key when it comes to understanding how certain puzzles operate, or understanding the hints for solving the puzzles for that matter.
[*]If you cannot figure out how to progress, you've probably over looked something.
If you play adventure games (especially HOGs), then this game will be somewhat familiar to you, and you'll likely enjoy it. Ultimately, I would say it's worth the base price ($6) and was a fun experience.
It's an OK point-and-click/hidden object game, maybe get it on discount. The dialog is somewhat tongue in cheek, and so far the puzzles aren't too difficult.
I can somewhat recommend this game.
The graphics are nice and there are a few nice puzzles in there. On the most part the puzzles are on the easy side and the game is short. The weirdest thing being that at some points the puzzles get obtuse and it is not at all clear to the player what to do next. There is no real story to speak of.
If you want to get a short fun escape room like diversion take this game. If you want something which takes longer than a few hours and can be played for in multiple long sessions then this is not the right thing.

The humour and writing is very good, and the game as a whole is beautiful and entertaining.
There were a couple of places where I wish there'd been more explanation for what to do - not in the sense of hints, but in the sense of actual game mechanics. A lot of things were intuitive, some weren't; I had a lot more fun after the first room or two simply because of knowing "how to". It's tricky with this genre, though.
On the up side, when I did have those "aha!" moments, it was very rewarding, which is a big part of puzzle-escape games like this! Overall, thumbs up - give this one a try!
For me the value of this game lies in the challenge of the puzzles, increasing in difficulty as you progress through 6 levels.
Hidden objects, alchemy, and complicated puzzle combinations kept me entertained, amused and perplexed many times.
In my opinion, a well made unique point and click game worth the price.
Nice game. Not the best in its genre, but still nice.
Some puzzles where quite hard, but it's solely possible to beat it without side help)
