In the single-player game, your task is to field a team of robotic athletes in order to advance through a series of progressively more challenging leagues, earning as many coins as you can along the way. You can remotely control any of the bots on your team, or let them play on their own.
In the local-multiplayer game, 2-8 players choose up sides, with AI-controlled bots filling in the empty slots.
About the Engine
Generator is a specialized 2D game engine based on Evolutionary Robotics, a technique for the automated creation of simulated robots. The engine provides a C++ framework for generating populations of such robots and deploying them in a completed game. It also includes a heavily optimized, glitch-free physics module for simulating the environments in which the robots interact and evolve. Thetaball is the first game built on the Generator engine; more are planned. Some Thetaball Features
- A true physical (not statistical) simulation -- outcomes are determined not by "rolling dice" but by the actual physical interactions between players.
- Lifelike AI -- every bot is a distinct individual with its own unique style of play.
- Extensive single-player game -- earn coins, develop your team, and advance through the leagues.
- Exciting couch multiplayer with up to 8 players -- a great party game!
- Play with a gamepad or mouse.
- Bet on individual matches or buy in to a tournament.
- Slow motion replays.
- Ultra-smooth animation.
- Monitor your coins with a variety of financial reports.
- Dozens of practice drills.
- Physics-based procedural sound.

Best Sports Betting Simulator Ever! lol
Rocket League but it takes place in that laser hockey minigame from Wii Play
The controls feel weird at first, but thanks to the extensive training mode you can get comfortable with them pretty quick. I found mouse controls slightly easier but only because the gamepad layout options were limited. Some people complained about the harsh goalie contact penalty but imo it just serves to discourage walk-in goals and gives the game a more realistic feel when playing. Personally I enjoy the amount of statistics the game gives about each bot (including its genome, which I assume is a visual representation of its AI) and the sound design. The SFX are non-invasive and there's no music so you can put on whatever tunes you want in the background.
I only just got this game today but I'm sure I'll be playing it a lot in the future
Great game wish Tim hadn't died would have loved to see more from him.
you cant even imagine how much you can learn to hate a f***king bot
i cant stop playing because i want them to suffer
This game had me at Physics and AI.
To be entirely honest, I was a tad skeptical. I wasn't sure about it, and it seemed a tad wonky, but all in all its a load of fun. I play a lot of Rocket League, and this game certainly is up to par if not better. I felt myself really getting into it as if it were an actual sports game (and normally, I am not a sports fan).
Pros: Amazing physics engine, very pleased with it. A bit of a learning curve that isn't too much. TEAM MANAGEMENT (although limited, still a very good mechanic)
Cons: It isn't particularly user friendly at first, but once you spend some time navigating the UI, it starts to feel a bit more comfortable.
The AI is very interesting. All I can say is that I have a bot that keeps ramming the enemy goalie. Usually when the ball isn't even over there. Not because he's a bad AI, hes just an A-hole.
Ok. I love this more than I should. I'm not really a sportsball fan but this is a fun sportsball game.
We can haz online multiplayer with full human vs human tournament leagues?
Fun little game.
It's like a top down version of rocket league, good way to kill some time.
You can buy and sell bots which adds an element of team management, the bots learn over time. the gameplay is fun and look forward to what else can be added in the future.
The art design is minimalistic but done well, the gameplay is smooth.
Things Id like to see,
1, Allow defenders to "skate" or strafe side to side as they move backwards, similar to what guys in Ice hockey do, so you're able to zone attackers and control the center.
2, Ability to change the ammount of team players and half length for longer matches and the mercy rule should be an option.
Otherwise not to bad, keep it up.
