Very fun little game! Art style is super cool and the narrative is interesting, fun core mechanic as well
Pros: The art style of the game is stunning. The gameplay is intuitive and fun with low pressure puzzles. The squirrels are cute.
Cons: Total time to play through the game is about 2-4 hours. The story leaves you wanting more. The price is steep for what you get in play-ability (HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING ON SALE).
I spent most of this game fluctuating between admiration for the beautiful forest and unease during the review of the night's footage (due to the stark colour palette and music changes). I kept expecting some kind of spooky twist. Overall, the plot really had me wanting more and the ending wasn't too satisfying. However, I did enjoy the short time I was immersed in this unique world.
Idk why it's so expensive for a few hours of gameplay, but I got it on sale and really enjoyed it. I hope there will be a second game; the story feels unfinished.
This was super cute and fun. I enjoy games like this where you have a forest job and there's an underlying sense of peril. Very good game, would love to see more like it.
This was a very cute game to experience.
the voice actor did a great job,
I loved the shifting colors,
And the style is so vibrant !!~
This was a cute, short game. It's a bit of a walking sim, which I love, where you set up cameras during the day, and at night, you track squirrels going around doing their business.
The visuals were very vibrant, the music was atmospheric, and the sound effects were all inspired by nature. Honestly, it played on my heart-strings and I loved every bit of it.
The controls were simple, though I sometimes switched to mouse when it came to pressing the tv buttons (play, pause, rewind, etc).
The story reminded me of other games I'd played, like Firewatch, for example, but I could play a million games like this, so this was a plus for me.
I recommend this game for those who like walking sims and zen-like games.
Beautiful art style carries the game.
Gameplay is really simple, but that works here, very chill 3h, the environmentalism theme is really on the nose here, but it doesn't feel like it's too hammered and the squirrels are cute.
Excellent game. I loved the puzzles and the story, would definitly go for a sandbox version if that were possible. The ending left some mystery but it was about the squirrels anyway.
It's a weird experience with cool gameplay ideas even though the plot is all over the place.
This game is nuts! In the most positive meaning of this word. Clever mechanic, captivating story and great gameplay. Absolutely worth the money even though it is quite short. Please make more games like this!
NUTS in many ways is just another walking simulator that draws heavy inspiration from Firewatch. However, Firewatch is a good template to emulate and NUTS has a few tricks up its sleeve to help it stand out from other games in its genre.
First of all, theere's the camera mechanic which both feels novel and well-implemented. Although the game is fairly short, clocking in at around three hours, the mechanic never grew stale keeps you engaged throughout.
Secondly, the art style, ambience, and lonely nature of the game lends itself to an utterly amazing ethereal, and at times even creepy, atmosphere.
Last but not least, and this might be a bit spoilery so look away if you want a completely untainted experience, the later parts of the game are a lot more surreal than one might expect, especially the ending, something which, in my opinion, lends itself really well to this type of game.
Either way, NUTS is truly a work born out of love and should not be overlooked despite it treading a lot of the same ground as some other walking sims.
solid gameplay, place cameras, find where the squirrels are coming from. it's exactly what i expected...
story wise still have to finish it, but looks promising...
its all about perspective
If you like abstract art this game is for you. This game also follows a story line that grows and grows along the way.
"this ancient place...
it's been here since forever, it'll outlive us all."
sometimes its just you and a bunch of little guys against the world!! even if it doesnt lead you anywhere
insanely good game,, changed my life i love you nina i love you forests i love you squirrels i love you endings that are not clear but so so beautifull
Not a bad game, but the story left me unsatisfied.
these nuts
If on sale for a few bucks... I can recommend, halfheartedly.
What others might be see as story I can only see as as excuse to give tasks to the player.
I am still not sure if I successfully finished the game or if it was a glitch. nothing was resolved, all the explanations for why the player has to do what he was told to... all pointless.
beautiful game best played blind and in 1 sitting
"dietz nuts!" (Vine boom) "what are those?" "these?" "dietz nuts (Vine boom), dietz and wattson, dietz nuts" (Vine boom) "those are nuts?" "dietz nuts arent nuts nuts, these are meat nuts" (Double vine boom) "those are meat nuts?" "meat nuts" "they're dietz nuts" (Vine boom) "can i get one of those?" “go ahead” "grab a handful of dietz nuts" (Vine boom) "yuh get a good grip in there" "hey chris, how dietz nuts taste?" (Vine boom) "are they delicious?" "what a fun snack" (while epicly sounds depressed) "dietz and watson" "dietz nuts are meat nuts!" (Vine boom)
Translation: Overall it's a good game, it's quite a chill game about taking photos of squirrels and nuts (acorns)
while its excellent, chapter 4 is terribly designed
The game is very pretty, in a sense, but the high contrast does sometimes make navigation and tracking difficult. The storyline itself could have been more intriguing, and the gameplay falls a little flat. On sale (as it is now) for $3 it's a wonderful purchase. Priced at the full $20 I would definitely skip.
this is the greatest deez game of all time
Very peaceful formulaic gameplay with light story but simple and sweet. Can be repetitive the game is short enough that it doesn't drag on.

SQUIRRRRRELS
Achievement Hunting Rating 5/5
Short but sweet, about 2-3 hours to beat. Surprisingly there is one achievement you might miss on the initial playthrough but easy to go back for it later.
Really not what I expected at all - for some reason I thought this was going to be a zany psych-horror-comedy about a researcher being driven mad by squirrels, and instead it's actually a rather serious environmentalist thriller. Basically a much better Firewatch in some ways. The puzzle elements are rather unique, as you have to place video cameras during the day and study the footage at night, essentially making this a very unconventional detective game. I can understand why some might consider this mechanic rather finicky, but as someone who had messed around with amateur audio editing in the past I found that element rather well done - you do need a sense of perfectionism.
To lightly touch upon a major spoiler, I can understand why some might be disappointed by the ending - I'm generally not a fan of open endings, especially in games which feature such deadpan social commentary as this - but I feel like it works here - the pro-conservation and anti-corruption themes are very much relevant right here, right now, a happy ending would be disingenuous and ruin the message of the game somewhat, while a bummer ending would just be fucking strange.
About performance issues - I did suffer a rather surprising FPS drop on the Steam Deck, which surprised me, but I'm not someone who really cares about that kinda stuff - it's just kinda rare, especially for an indie title. I wouldn't try to run this on a potato laptop.
Surprisingly engrossing,
