A really nice game. The world and the story is great and the graphics and the characters are well made. The voices are nice and the the overall ambience is really nice. There is no HOS in this game so its rather a puzzle game but its still pretty nice. The bonus gives insight about what happend before which is pretty nice. I can highly recommend it
It's not a bad game! A little dated, and it's more of a point-and-click adventure vs a true HOG. The hint system is the best I've seen in a HOG. Typically you need to use hint multiple times to get a clear answer, this one gives you a multi-part hint in one shot (e.g. go backward 3 spots and use this item here). Some of the artwork is pretty nice, no lags while playing. Definitely worth it if you're looking for some relaxing fun.
Please note: In the main game I did find a bug that another player mentioned, but you can skip the puzzle. It's the one where you move the mirrors with arrows, and it's very late game. After it crashed I simply waited for the skip to charge and used it. No problem, finished the game just fine.
Pretty decent for what it is. The graphics are lovely, although quite noticeably old in the cutscenes. The puzzles are varied in both type and difficulty. Also, even though this game looks like a typical HOG, there are no hidden object scenes.
I was impressed by this game's attention to detail particularly in the beginning, although it does feel rushed later on. All the journal articles are voiced, which I don't think I've ever seen in this genre before. You can also find extra letters/documents all over the game, and there are tons of hotspots for the protag to comment on. The bonus chapter is also surprisingly long and in-depth.
The story is... very cliché, which I guess is pretty typical for the genre, but still, this one feels more so. Some of the protag's lines near the beginning seem to oddly foreshadow a twist that I knew would never happen, but the story would've been more interesting if it had. And in general, the writing is poor, as if the writers memorized "show, don't tell" backwards. Also, I'm not a big fan of Eveline, the protagonist, who I find insufferably flowery. The protagonist in the bonus chapter is much better imo.
I also really hated some of the sound effects in this game. The music is fine... I mean certain one- or two-second sound effects that would play continuously on a tight loop and irritated me so much that I would remove my headphones in certain scenes. I've rarely had this problem with other games before...
This game is rather... Laggy... Mind you, I have a decent PC... But this game just has a delay on multiple actions.
There are also some bugs... Like the game crashes on the Snake mirror puzzle. No matter what you do... IT WILL CRASH! So do yourself a favor and SKIP IT... Or you can no longer play the game!
There are also NO H.O. scenes. At all... So you find stuff and use 'em... That's all.
Story is not bad... There might be questions but its's a H.O.G. so I will forgive it...
I can't finish the Bonus game because it just stops dead in its tracks and I am unable to find anymore items or what to do. Even the "Hint Dragon" has no idea what to do... So that was it for me I suppose.
'S not bad... Just prepare for the laggyness. Yep.
:D
No HOP scenes, but nice visuals, good VA, and lengthy w a bonus chapter
I likes this fairy tale hidden object adventure game. I can't say it was the most COMPELLING story, but I did enjoy that it was a guy in distress instead of a damsel. You go through a big massive odyssey to save your catboifriend. The art was great, the journey she went on was great. The lore of the world was actually surprisingly deep for a game of this type.
Game has a game breaking bug and devs don't seem to care
I didn't like that when you get toward the end the mirror puzzle boots me off and the skip won't work
I was really enjoying the game until the bug that made it crash. I'm used to that kind of bug in HO games, usually it's not a huge deal, except in this one... it didn't save. So I'd have to start all over. Until that's fixed, not recommended.
Skip this one. It's quite old, so some of the quality-of-life is missing. (At least it has a map!) There are no hidden object scenes, just a lot of finding things to unlock other things on other screens. There's a bug with a very late puzzle that hard crashes the main game, forcing a skip. There's no achievements or cards. There's an extra story / game, but that's pretty much it.
Great story telling with lots of detail throughout. Even the main ending didn't simply cut off with one sentence like these HOGs usually do. The games and puzzles were interesting and enjoyable. The artwork was great. Good length of 5 hours. A great value if you find it on sale.
Forest Legends: The Call of Love CE is such an unusual adventure puzzle game. I don't remember any HOS. it is written like a famous old fairy tale. It is not a short, syrupy-sweet romance game. Make sure you play the bonus game because it brings you full circle to the beginning. You travel by foot, by boat, and go underwater. You meet many characters along your long quest that help you, and you help them. You find and collect needed items as your explore, repair, and problem solve. The imagination put into the characters is impressive. You make a lot of potions as you progress throughout your adventure.
You have:
-map that lets you jump to locations, shows where you are and where an action can be taken
-a baby dragon gives you hints
-skip button
-a full strategy guide
-nice journal that the main character narrates, and it collects clues
bonuses: bonus game, wallpapers, music (not DL), and mini books you can read by topic of their fairy tale history (like the beginning of the world), concept art
The drawing and artwork is amazing, even within the journal and pages that you collect throughout the game.
Glitches?
1. Only one mini game glitched for me. It was the mirror puzzle by the gate. I took a picture of it for reference. If I tried to click on it, the game shut down. I was able to use the skip button and move on.
2. Also. one of the potions: The game froze in between each ingredient. So I forced a shut down each time, restarted the game (rinse, repeat) until I finished the potion. Then all was well.
Full disclosure: I paid a $1.37 USD for this on sale. And for that price I got quite the adventure. You play as a star-crossed lover accompanied by her wee dragon. Can you solve all the puzzles and find your true love? My only complaint is that this isn't a HOG. It's a fetch quest with a lot of mini games mixed in. And a lot of potion making. But overall, it's really well done. Recommended!
Got this in a HOG bundle but this isn't really a HOG. More an inventory puzzle kinda game if you're into that stuff. Cute environment but it's not what I was looking for :(
A beautifully drawn fairy tale adventure. (Note: It's a casual adventure game but not a hidden object game)
Pros:
- Lovely, detailed artwork
- the music is fine
- fairy tale setting with a few steam punk elements and some dry humor Easter eggs
- alchemy
- a bonus chapter, which is actually good
- easy puzzles
Cons:
- One puzzles cannot be solved (the game crashes). It has to be skipped.
- bad voice-over
- the story is a bit lame
- No Steam achievements or trading cards
All in all, I can recommend this game to casual gamers.
Not a hidden object game at all, just a point and click adventure. Crashes at a certain minigame and the only way to get past it is to skip the game, so don't think you can finish the game with zero skips. I bought the game back in June and only got around to playing it this last couple weeks, so unable to get a refund, but at least I only spent $4 (although not worth it).
I was enjoying this game got near the end on a puzzle that has mirrors that need to be moved with arrows every time I tried to do this puzzle I got kicked out of the game and the skip button doesn't work.
Very enjoyable - a high quality casual point and click adventure.
Note: This game does NOT have hidden object scenes.
Pros:
-Lovely artwork and traditional fairy tale type setting
-Music (never overwhelms the game, and fits the various settings)
-Puzzles (mostly easy, but some take a bit of thought)
-Characters / protagonist (not especially deep characters, although the father is surprisingly complex, though a minor player; but the key characters are likeable, and the protagonist is intelligent)
-An entertaining Bonus Chapter
Cons:
-One bug in one of the final puzzles that has been known to devs for 1.5 years and remains unresolved
(not a major issue, since there aren't Steam achievements, and the puzzle can be Skipped; still annoying)
[The devs do respond to people who run into this bug; however, it's still happening as of July 23, 2019]
- No Steam achievements or trading cards (and trading cards for this game would be nice!)
Final: Definitely recommended. The one bug didn't break the game, and this is a lovely, immersive game!
In Forest Legends: The Call of Love you play the human Eveline as she sets out to rescue her captured lover...who is a giant cat man who sounds like Puss in Boots from Shrek. Loved the story and world building in this game. However, towards the end the story gets extremely rushed and the way the ending was done felt a little unsatisfying to me. Despite this I really enjoyed Forest Legends and would recommend it to fans of point and click puzzle games.
Short version: 70%
Forest Legends is a rather long casual adventure game about two star-crossed lovers from different worlds. Its breath-taking graphics go well with the format and the fantasy setting, but those who expected it to be a hidden object game will be disappointed.
Long version:
Forest Legends: The Call of Love is a casual point ‘n’ click set in an average magical kingdom with a standard plot premise: our heroine, Eveline, is desperately trying to save her kidnapped love, who is shunned both by her family and his race, a civilisation of werecats. In true casual adventure fashion, she achieves this by travelling through a set of usual fantasy locations and whipping up a dozen potions along the way.
This also forebodes the gameplay, which never goes beyond the most basic adventure item hunt, with the occasional conventional puzzles almost being a breath of fresh air. At least thanks to the nice map system, there is only mild backtracking and dead time.
Despite this simplicity, the story continuously keeps going through constant voiced narration and cut-scenes. This effort shows that a lot of production value went into Call of Love, although it is even more visible by looking at the gorgeous art, the biggest selling pont of this game.
