I was on the lookout for something similar to good, old GeneRally and this sort of fitted the bill, at least from the outside.
Contrary to some I beg to differ - it is not an unfinished game. Yes, it left early access all of a sudden after a long period of no updates but calling it unfinished is like calling your down syndrome brother an incomplete human being.
Street Heat is a bare bones game. It is a sum of absolute minimum, of what is needed to complete a game. There are no difficulty modes, you're not getting more than 4 cars and about 6 or 7 short tracks. There's only one tournament to play (one set of races, first to 20 points wins), so not a lot and for full asking price this is frankly a sad little racing joke.
And whoever on earth decided to call this soundtrack "masterful" clearly had no clue whatsoever. This is synthwave at its very basic, with not a single track making a mark, and what's worse - it's hard to even notice it in-game. Very bland.
It certainly has the artstyle going for it: monochromatic surroundings with only neon banners giving them a touch of colour. In contrast to bright cars and tracks this actually works pretty well.
The drift based racing model is competent too, although AI is very inconsistent - one time you'll be flying through to the finish line with the rest of the bunch really struggling to keep up, then next time you'll be getting bummed by AI on every turn and corner.
From technical perspective, it played without any issues on the Steam Deck.
Maybe for anything less than £2 based on available content and overall quality. But that's a big maybe. Otherwise don't even look at it.

According to Steam, I last played this for around an hour back in 2017 when this game was still in Early Access. On a whim I decided to revisit it, and all I gotta say is, I’m really disappointed. When I last played this, I felt that the concept was cool but it was lacking in content, and just needed something more; according to the discussions, I’m not the only one that felt that way.
Other than some bugfixes according to the patchnotes (although OneWay’s AI is just broken), version 0.6.7275.31597 (which is the current version as of me writing this) has two new maps and SLIGHTLY different car handling. Nothing else, no alternate game modes, no new cars, no career mode, nothing. Just quick play with bots, other people on the same screen, or literally no one online. My problem with that is, Street Heat feels nothing more than a proof of concept that you get bored with after maybe an hour tops. At least grinding the car unlocks & achievements only takes three total at most.
I literally searched out of curiosity, and Little Racers STREET is 2 bucks less than this game and will last you way longer; also, that game was actually finished before the developers stopped updating it. Just buy that game instead.

I liked the graphics and soundtrack. At first, the game was a little tricky, but when you learn the tactics, it would be fun. This is nice game to play with your friends!
Have to say that even in early access this game brings up so many good memories from the 90's good old car games like Slicks 'n slide. Dev's are active and listening to the community. Thumbs up for Astalo, keep it up!
Maybe im missing the point here. Played game for about 45 minutes. First couple of races crashed out but after about 5 races started winning. Ended up winning the championship by 11 points and looking at the lap times the ai where 3 seconds off the pace. So I obviously I was the yellow car as you cant select any others. When I won the championship nothing happened and I cant select a different car. The other most disappointing aspect for me was the framerate. I have a high end pc that plays the modern games without a problem but for me this game just isn't as smooth as you would expect it to be. Had a look online but nobody was playing. I love top down racing games but for me this is limited without enough content and could be improved in many areas. I am also a games developer and I think another key point has been missed here. If you make all ai cars with the same skill level the points get spread thoughout the 3 cars. If one of the cars was more dominant they would be a bigger threat to you in the championship. Hopefully this game improves and gives the player more to do in the future. I am going to give it a thumbs up with the hope it improves. The truth is unsure!
Excellent game from the beginning, and what a great music track.
Brings back the 80’s, when the music was great and the cars were quick.
Looking forward to final release, but even this beta gets under the skin from the start with its difficulty to master.
Need to use a controller, like one from xbox to have a chance in competition.
Well done for indie company and imho this has a massive potential.
We had a quick 20 minute two-player session and it's instantly clear there is huge amount of potential in this game. I'm hoping for more content to come, tracks, cars, maybe career etc, but what is there now is very solid and polished. It's pretty much a tournament mode, 4 on 4, against people or AI, locally or online.
Plan for the weekend: couple of beers with friends and this game on screen, gonna be a blast.
Nice racer with a great style. Difficulty is pretty brutal at start, but feels good once you get used to it.
