I bought this game for less then a buck but still can't recommend.
The game seems to be fun for the short duration, it has a certain vibe and weirdness about it that I like.
However during a certain point in the game I got sort of a game over screen.
When I tried to continue my save game the game crashes and it seems my save file is corrupt.
Looking on the forum this has been an issue ever since this game was released like 7 years ago by now and never was fixed by a developer.
No matter what the price is of a game, if there are still game breaking bugs that are never getting fixed I simply cannot recommend a game.
I am sorry to say I have requested a refund, hopefully the future games of this developer that I am going to play are less game breaking.
This game needs to fix way too many bugs for a 2017 game. It bugged once, got stuck once, then I got stuck in a crashing loop. I couldn't finish the game.
Other things it needs, a run button.
The dancing bottle is cool.
Poacha the rat is cool.
Not excellent graphics, but apt horror atmosphere. jumpscare present and well done. Undoubtedly the game is incomplete and there are some bugs within the setting, but it left me a good memory in general. My rating 7/10
Fariwalk: The Prelude is not strictly a game. It's an advertisement/demo for another game called "Fariwalk" that never made it to Steam (or even got completed, as far as I know). It's a common mistake when unfamiliar with Steam to launch demos/advertisements as full games on Steam instead of tagging them correctly as demos. Here's the instructions for putting a demo up on Steam, to demonstrate that there is a correct process for this, which hasn't been followed here:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos
While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace.
It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers.
In this case it's obviously more sinister, because the "developers" here are charging money for an advertisement for a non-existent game. I've done over 10,000 reviews on Steam and I have to say this is an entirely new attempt from amateur developers to fleece customers out of money for crap products.
As always, Steam reviews must be about the games, even if this advertisement isn't a game at all. The non-existent game this is advertising, "Fariwalk", was intended to be a lazy, low effort asset flip first person adventure game. To disguise the asset flip nature of the "game", the developer stripped textures and tried to use monochrome shading instead, basically a ripoff of the art style of Microsoft's successful puzzle platformer, "Limbo". Yeah, I know, from this we can see there's no limit to the intellectual bankruptcy of this amateur "developer".
From a technical perspective, this advertisement doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The advertisement features lazy untextured assets and visuals, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. The lack of textures is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game, although as I mentioned, I believe this is just a direct attempt to try hide the fact the assets are all flipped, and used without crediting the actual creators. You know, like photocopying someone else's homework and thoughtfully scribbling out their name at the top of the page so the teacher doesn't find out it's someone else's work.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the advertisement unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this advertisement below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Fariwalk: The Prelude is an advertisement, but the developer wants you to pay them $1 to experience this advertisement for a game that isn't even available. I can't begin to describe how disgusting it is to see Steam being abused like this, with an expectation that gamers should pay money for advertising... even worse, advertising for non-existent products.
And of course... that's not even the end of it. Despite not actually finishing the game, the "developer" routinely puts this crap on sale to continue to try scam gamers into paying money for their advert. What a sick joke.
Too slow😴
First off before I get into reviewing the game I had a tad bit of trouble with it. At first the game ran really well until I closed it out to take a break. The game refused to load and came up with an error message a half a dozen times, I tried to uninstall it and re install it but the problem was very persistent. It only fixed it self when I hit new game and start all over. If you do play this game I recommend playing it all the way through other wise you will have to start a new game each time.
Now to the review!
Back when the game first came out I watched a few youtubers play it and bought it a little while later. It did take me quite a long time to actually sit down and play it since I forgot I had it in my library.
The game itself is pretty short once you start figuring out where everything is however, I did find myself struggling with the flower puzzle because I honestly couldn't tell if I was resetting it or not.
Besides the art style I really liked the music and atmosphere of the game. There where a few instances where I found myself startled since I was not expecting things to jump out on me or the music to shift when certain characters appeared.
The game is worth a full one time play through since the map isn't very big or have to many objects to find. I did manage to get all the achievements at one go so I wont need to reload the game to get them, It was pretty enjoyable for the amount of time I put into it.
If you like games where you explore and don't have to put to much effort into it do give this one a try. It definitely has its charms even though some of the mini games got a tad frustrating.
plays like a broken demo
Spooky atmosphere, ok puzzles - wish I could recommend. But there's several game-breaking bugs that just ruin all progress and any enjoyment. For example, there's a cup shuffle game that if you lose is considered a game over and attempting to continue will either crash the game or bug the "quest" progress preventing you from retrying the cup shuffle.
It's amazing and I love it but there's a game breaking bug when you go back to the yard that destroys your saved game and I think the full game isn't being made. Sad :( but good game
Well, the game was interesting to play but no guide at all and if you fail on some mission, then there is a bug that can't you progress on this mission. I know they are a small indie team but the game needs to be improved. Also, most of the models in the game are has no texture. i think the devs made the 3d models instead of buying some pre-made assets. good job devs!
my score is 5/10 for this game because i could not finish the game cause of the bug but thumbs up!
Very unique surreal horror game. Took me around 2 hours to 100%. I recommend it and hope for a sequel.
Horror atmospheric game
Was thrilled to see a game of this style and darkness...so far what Ive seen is very nice, can't wait to dive in.
I really don't want to thumb down this game, frankly, it's one of the better indie products of its genre with a very unique feel, but I just can't recommend it before its major technical issue gets fixed - the frequent crashes that corrupt your save file and consequently make you redo everything you've already done.
As you can see, I have five hours playtime on record, however, about four of them were spent doing the same thing, over and over again, since I had to restart the game every time it crashed. The actual content of the game requires roughly one and a half hour to be fully experienced. With that said, this is a short game, which I have no problem with considering it was developed by a small team and it's reasonably priced, but the regular crashing and the buggy saving mechanism just made the whole experience excessively tedious and completely ruined my positive first impression of it.
If you're really into atmospheric "walking-sims", I do think you should try it out and you would probably find it interesting, but I suggest you wait until it gets a couple more updates to avoid frustration and your time being unnecessarily wasted.
Apparently the devs plan to release a series of episodic sequels of Fariwalk in early 2018, as far as I'm concerned, I hope they could do a little more playtest before putting their products on the market. Nevertheless, with technique issues aside, I do like the artstyle, the world design, the atmosphere, the ambient sound, and the occasional spookiness of Fariwalk, and I'm looking forward to the future works by AIHASTO. But as for now, I think I'll have to leave this big ugly thumb down here, sorry.
I find this game fun and enjoyable, reminding me of surrealistic exploring games like Yume nikki or The Path.
The world of the game is interesting to explore, finding nice scenery and good ambience/music.
A bit counterintuitive side quest introduce us to an intriguing cast of characters, and i hope we'l get to know more about them in next chapter.
Honestly, my playthrough was a bit tiresome because of losing progress due to bugs. But i was interested enough to play through the game in multiple tries, because i wanted to know how it will end.
Also i hope there'll be an option to remove or reduce the amount of head bobbing, it was a bit nauseating.
Great find for the price, its definitely got the creepy horror element to it.
Especially if your playing Fariwalk for the first time.
But if you are less into horror its also got the story, visuals, and simulation aspects of a well made game.
They did have a few glitches, but they have patched them!
And if your having trouble with cutting the tree you have to swing the sword By swiping to the left and right!
Ran into this issue myself and thought it was the glitch everyone was talking about.
Dont worry about not being able to interact with certain Objects before you reach the Forest,
Youll get to it. Tried to say that wihtout spoilers!

Quick Info
Fariwalk is just one of those strange games that you will randomly find on the Steam store. It builds an air of surreal creepiness beautifully by limiting the player’s vision. While it might not have the most cohesive story, that doesn’t hurt this experience too much as what is given is enough to at least give the player some concept of what they’re doing while not killing the strange vibe. There are a few bugs, but that is not unexpected in a two dollar title. This game is a gem to stumble upon. It’s weird and creepy and thoroughly unexplained. I hope that the developer actually makes more games in this world in the future, as they said would be doing, because this is just brilliantly different. Go give it a try, it will definitely be an enjoyable play.
