By far one of the best games ive ever had the pleasure to play. what a beautiful art style and innovative game play mode.
It's a very interesting game. After intially trying it and stumbling around unsure why I'm not getting into it, I put it aside for later for a long time. I tried to get into again several times, and failed. And this made me seriously think because I was fairly knowlegeable about the setting, and couldn't help but appreciate the wonderful visuals, and there didn't seem to be anything about it that rubbed me the wrong way ideologically. And what I realized was that I was having trouble with the game because it expected me to - and not terribly often - read through a short case file summary carefully.
It wasn't the game, it was me. I was trying to play a rather excellent game of being a judge, one that even allows you to be a grossly corrupt and incompetent judge who doesn't even read the case files, and excell at it without, you know, reading a paragraph of text here and there.
So, once I forced myself to do some very basic reading, the game gripped me and I ended up revisinting figures and events of the french revolution on the side, and thinking about life, the universe and what it all means more than I did in years. It's really a cool, worthwhile game and I hope the commendable effort and dedication that went into making it was worth it for the wonderful people who decided that this was what they wanted to do.
I like this game, but I think it tries to do too much and the story drags on a little too much. Some mechanics from Acts 2 & 3 are clunky and a little frustrating to work with.
i really tried to like it, the devs really tried to make this work.but nah the story is so boring and unbilievable.the gameplay gets repetitive.
in the early game u have this system of restricted choices as a judge which makes so much sense and is cool, the same system gets so childish and cheesy after midgame whcih makes u forced to do stuff for no reason.
anyway 90% of the choices are just a delusion because u choose what the devs wanted or u die, funny right?
if there is no other game to play and if it is on a 90% sale play it but i still dont promise you'd enjoy it sadly.
The first three hours are really enjoyable; then the game starts becoming very technical and hard to follow without spending an unreasonable amount of energy. So, not suggested for some relax, although perfect for some critical thinking inspiration

We. The revolution is a game where you play as a judge in the end of the French kingdom dawn of the French Republic during the opening act of the French revolution. You will have to judge and attempt to garner support from different political factions to ensure you keep your head on your body.
While not the longest story, a gem of political subterfuge in one of the most chaotic and intricate periods of history is a welcome change for history fans. We. The revolution exemplifies the political arena and power vacuums of the early revolution and the implications of what the population dealt with with rabid changes.
We. The revolution is a fantastic game that shows how a man will attempt to save his family in one of the worst periods in history. All while attempting to bring justice in an era of personal discretion due to being pre napoleonic code.
Highly recommended for people interested in French history and the politics during the time of the revolution and the social mobility outcome that comes with it.
Good game...
We. The Revolution was a game that I didn't have high expectations going into but actually genuinely enjoyed. That isn't to say there are bad parts of the game, the entire Act 3 being focused on a pretty bad battle system that was not enjoyable when compared to the actually entertaining judge system was bad, it made the game less enjoyable and had it not had it, I would likely recommend this a lot more. However, it does, but it doesn't make it a bad game. The judge gameplay was fun, balancing the various interests of Paris and working with intrigue to strike your enemies before they strike you is a great way to tell the story of the French Revolution in a entertaining and surprisingly educational way. Do I feel like they should've developed it more? Yes, more focus should've went into it. But I would still have to recommend this on a good sale, it is worth a play if you can get it for half off.
Illusion of choice, plot is railroaded regardless of choices in who you save or execute.
Spoilers: Your actions will always betray you and your family will always fall apart. Story is good until about the second or third time your son's murderer is changed; and then the story plummets off a cliff when *gasp* it's your brother!

I recommend it for the story, but be warned it DOES get dark, there are mentions of various forms of Assault to put it mildly, but outside of those cases that you must preside over, there's some actually interesting moral conundrums at times, do you spare a baker refusing to sell bread because he wants to make sure his family can eat with a famine going around, EVEN IF that baker might have caused families to starve. The game play is rather minimal with the only thing that seems to have any meaningful pressure behind it being the persuasion/speech mini games and the "Map of Paris" strategy board. It's largely a political intrigue kind of game, it talks of grand conspiracies, betrayals, scandals, cheats and liars, you must even become a liar at times...you must even potentially send innocents to their doom at times...all so the mobs won't send you to the axe. Your opponents will cross lines, target your character in ways that might genuinely leave you upset and wondering what they actually respect and value or have they all been forced to plod along the entire time, following the machinations of destiny? What lines won't they cross to get their way? It's very gossip heavy, and my ONLY complaint is that...i wish we had the opportunity to have this game as like a Detroit Becomes Human or The Wolf Among Us style game. This would be AMAZING if it was allowed to blend the rather limited game play it has with those kinds of games and visceral story telling. I'm saving the last part of my review for once i finish the game as some say things about the game that if i can confirm...would impact my feelings about the game for sure.

Full of grammatical typos and errors, I'd say the writing feels AI generated but then again this was made in 2019 and AI doesn't make grammatical errors. So I'm just gonna say the writing is pretty poor. It's cringe and theater-esque, which does not work in a serious game about revolution and making choices. The gameplay feels disjointed and confused in what it wants to be, there's like 6 minigames wrapped up into a sloppy package.
Overall this game fails to engage with the player in any meaningful way, and it's a pretty boring experience all around. It'd be a light pass at $4.99, but for $19.99, it's a crying shame.
While I appreciate the attention to detail & world building that went into the game, the core gameplay loop is unsatisfying and the story is not compelling enough to save it. I only played this game for an hour - I could not dedicate more of my time to it than that. The process of selecting questions in the trial is rudimentary and barely intuitive, a significant downgrade from the courtroom experience of something like a Phoenix Wright. The graphics are great, and the art style is sharp and compelling. I think this game is, at best, super mid & terrifyingly boring otherwise.
There's a lot to like about this - It has a promising setting and I love the fact that you are forced to make judicial decisions based more on not wanting to get murdered on your way home than what seems right or true.
Then in the last third the game turns into a barely-playable turn based strategy, and then it's not actually about the revolution at all but a singular antagonist's personal grudges. Weak!
I have absolutely no idea what is happening but I recognize that's a me problem.
This game is short, sweet, and fun to play through.
Will say that the lack of story decisions does hold it back, but the gameplay is still fun and worth buying the game.
