Slipstream is a racing game inspired by the visuals, music, games and cars from the late 80s and early 90s. It's built on a custom game engine, with an authentic retro feel and unique graphics. The soundtrack, drawing from synthpop and jazz fusion influences, sets the tone for a race across a variety of exotic locations from all around the world, including cities, deserts, forests, mountains and beaches. Drifting and slipstreaming mechanics add depth to the driving gameplay, and the result is a challenging and exciting experience.

This game is definitely worth the full price, it’s fun vanilla and with mods.
Wow, what a game. Absolutely stellar all-around. For very old-school arcade racing, there isn't much else that can compete with this. Elegantly designed, but still fairly challenging, with a nice assortment of modes and vehicles to explore. Also the music is top-notch - it's among my favorite soundtracks that I've heard recently. It's got a unique setup where the entire soundtrack essentially plays as a playlist in the background, rather than having looping tracks tied to each course. It gives Slipstream a really elastic, easygoing feel to it. Also it has workshop support! Very cool! I can't wait to see what the dev does next.
Slipstream is a very good driving in a retro ambiant with lots of levels, few cars, very good soundtracks and great pixels graphics. I really enjoyed this game and played for hours!!! I highly recommend it!!! 💜💜💜
Just the feel i was looking for
Great little game, a bit too simple, but I love the graphics, feeling and music. I wish there was more of a single, long "campaign mode".
Not only the best of its sub-genre, Slipstream is shown* to make you 20% more attractive by playing.

A good game for people who like Outrun. This game plays a lot like Outrun, with the main mode being a long drive through a series of interconnected tracks, where you get to choose which one to go on next. You also have a rival on each track, something that was not in Outrun, each one evidently being some sort of reference to things that I don't get. I don't really see the purpose of them, since they're really easy to pass, and it seems nearly impossible to lose against them without the timer running out anyway. Unlike Outrun, this game also has more conventional modes like Grand Prix, where you race on 5 tracks, each for 4 laps. This was not in Outrun.
You have several cars to choose from, especially with the free DLC, while the original Outrun only had the single car to race. I'm not sure how different the cars really feel from each other, but some have more emphasis on acceleration, max speed, or handling. The graphics and music are great, like in Outrun, although the music sounds like retrowave or whatever it's called, unlike the soundtrack of Outrun, which does not. The tracks all have a nice and unique aesthetic, but they don't really seem that distinguishable from each other beyond looks. It's sort of just left turn, left turn, right turn. Though I guess it was like that in Outrun too. It also has this rewind feature where you can undo mistakes like crashes whenever you want, though there's a 5 second or so cooldown before you can use this again. I don't really get it, especially since this wasn't in Outrun, but I guess this was to make it more accessible to people who haven't played Outrun.
Unfortunately you don't own a woman riding with you, like in Outrun. So that's a point against it.
That's it. if you like Outrun, you should get this game. If you don't enjoy Outrun, I would not recommend this game.

This is the kind of game the deserves a standalone arcade machine. Drift, draft, dodge, and throttle steer your way to victory though themed, retro routes. Game has been well polished since initial release, and the workshop support adds plenty of fun cars and tracks
This game is pure vibes. When I the hang of the drifting and navigating, I just zoned out and enjoyed it

This is the most fun I've had with a racing game in a long while. I'm not a big racing game fan. Even less so with those pseudo 3D racing games. However I've always loved the aesthetics of them so I've given several of them a shot every now and then, including the classics in arcades. I've always struggled with controls of those games, in corners. Unlike modern racing game it's hard to judge and control the right speed as to no drift off track.
This game solved all issues with really well designed driving mechanics and not overly punishing consequences of fender benders. So not only does this game look fantastic, it plays really, really well. The drift mechanic is a blast and solves most Issues I've ever had with other games in this genre.
The tracks and cars are beautiful. The music is not bad, though some of the songs are IMO a bit too chill for a racing game.

One of the best racing games ive ever played. If the dev had left it alone it wouldve been good enough, but he came back and kept adding to what became this masterpiece masterpiece
I should have reviewed this much sooner, but the final patch is out so I think now is still a good time.
Slipstream is a simple game. You have cars, drifting, drafting, racers, traffic, and a rewind mechanic. Drifting works on a brake to drift system that requires you to release the gas before you hit the brake. Drifts need to be started early on many corners with most cars, especially if you're avoiding traffic. Drafting doesn't immediately give you a speed boost, but rather gives you a large boost after you build up enough to spell "slipstream" in the bottom right of your screen. Rewind is a resource that needs to be managed to ensure it's available when you need it most. All of it feels polished and smooth. It's not braindead, but it's definitely not complex either. Everything comes down to getting a better feel for it.
There are 6 gamemodes, from a career mode (with an optional upgrade system between races) to the classic grand tour mode, and even a battle royale mode that eliminates racers after every stage. The music is wonderful, with plenty of synthwave tracks composed by effoharkay. There are 8 cars (3 of which were added in the Blue Hour free DLC) and 20 stages/tracks (5 of which were added by Blue Hour).
Now that the game has had its last update, the developer has left further content creation up to the community. The latest patch has added both a suite of modding tools for creators and workshop support for mod distribution. There's not much available at the time of writing, but I'm sure there will be plenty of additional cars and tracks on the workshop in a few months.
Great 80s style arcade racer. Plenty of content and different challenges to complete. Definitely worth the modest price. Reinstalling it now to play the final update from the dev and mess around with the new modding tools.
With the Final Major Update to the game i want to personally say thank you ansdor for creating such a masterpiece of a game this is a true spiritual successor to Sega's Outrun thanks again and good luck with your future projects.

Visually good retro graphics giving great sense of speed.
Fun arcade style racer with a healthy amount of content for the price. This is a game I keep reaching back for, excellent to play in small bursts. The soundtrack bangs, the art is awesome, and there's plenty of silly drifting. The dev released a free dlc, be sure to claim it and get more cars/tracks, and just recently implemented modding tools and steam workshop support. There's never been a better time to grab it, and they're still committed to fixing new bugs. Absolutely worth a try, I love seeing small projects like this succeed.
A chill racing game with a great soundtrack. It's fun to to drift and looks great so I give it a recommend.
Awesome 2.5D racing game that draws from those nostalgic arcade games. Genuinely feels like a game you would find as a full arcade system. almost makes me want to build a custom cabinet myself. Extremely recommend
Probably the best Outrun-clone I've ever played. It's really challenging until you get used to it and then its simultaneously relaxing and thrilling to play. Also its graphically perfect which I think is important for such a simple game to play.
The two problems I would like to point out are: the game feels pretty bad to play on controller IMO, the handling on the cars does not feel tuned for joystick control at all. It felt a lot better when I switched to controlling the game with my keyboard instead. The other problem is that the cars are maybe balanced but the game doesn't reward you for trying to drive the harder ones, particularly the Lynx, and in fact it moreso punishes you as handling is king and top speed is the least important stat. I consider this a nitpick though, the Lynx and Aurora can be very fun to drive as a personal challenge still but you drive them at a disadvantage and if you want to crush this game the Epsilon is the S tier car.
All nitpicks aside though I'd say if you think that this game looks fun to play you will probably like playing it. Great casual arcade racer.
I did not like it, the drifting doesn't feel as good as in video. the cars do not have depth, is is difficult to estimate distance and the arrow in the bottom is borderline useless. And there is no map whice is a downer in my book. the game is very biautiful, but not useful. If there was a couple more frames, maybe it would be better but i dunno. It feels like there is something missing to the gameplay. Plus the characters in this game have no personnality and are boring as hell. It is a little bit dumb that you need to read in a game that fast. (voice acting plus more depth would be nice) The music is cool tho. the maps feel all the same and the cars too. And finally, sometimes, it is too damn fast. I do not look in the bottom of my screen personaly, so maybe a hint around the screen to indicate the speed would do the trick, like wind passing by, the music become more intense or the drifting cloud becoming on fire or something. Overall, pretty good, but there are some issues.
Very fun to play game if you miss the good old arcade racers. The option to give it the VHS-look combined with the awesome music really do catch the music vibe of the last century. Awesome!
