HalfLight is a third-person mystery adventure game developed by UE4 setting in a fictional world of 1940s Taiwan.
The design of all the puzzles is based on logic and common sense for every player to understand the situation quickly and to have an immersive experience when solving puzzles. Even though the puzzles will become more challenging as the story develops, once you observe the environment in detail, you will always find the clues to break through these obstacles.
Something unspeakable, it always appears unexpectedly and charges at you. What is it looking for? Who is it? Try to interact with the environment and use items around you wisely. That is the key to escape from the chase of the ones hiding in shadows.
Explore and seek for the truth behind this mysterious world. Lots of photos and notes are scattered in every corner of HalfLight. Through gathering these photos and notes, you will figure out the whole story behind this mysterious world.
In order to bring the native and nostalgic view of 1940s Taiwan to players, the voiceover Taiwanese. Furthermore, there are nearly a thousand Taiwanese lines mixed with Japanese, to present the life and the culture in that certain period when Taiwan was occupied by Japan.

We are MATCHB, four university students from Taiwan with the full passion of playing and making video games. The idea of HalfLight came from our student graduation project, which even won the 1st prize in official Unreal Engine 4 Game Design Competition. Very good game, interesting cerebral story, only complaint would be sometimes the lighting is inconsistent making some rooms really hard to see. Absolutely worth playing
在《还愿》因夹带私货暴雷,引爆全网抵制,最后落得Steam下架之后,所有来自台湾的游戏,都会被国人玩家带着放大镜进行细节扫描,似乎已经默认台湾出的游戏都会夹带私货,尤其是带有时代背景的游戏,稍有一些带有争议的设定都会触动国人敏感的神经,直接给游戏扣上“辱华”的帽子。稍前发布的《廖添丁-稀代兇賊の最期》就因为游戏剧情是用日据还是日治的提法,以及不同语言版本中部分描述的不同,引发争议。
鉴于目前两岸日益紧张的关系,也多少会引起民众间的仇视和对立,虽然制作者和玩家都会有自己的政治立场,但还是让游戏归于游戏本身,游戏到底在表达什么,是否夹带了政治倾向,但就《夕生》这款游戏,还是不要那么急于盖棺定论。
《夕生》名字取自佛教中的“细微身”,有生命起源与干净灵魂之意,借以表达“对童年创伤的疗愈”的深层含义;夕生也是游戏中主角的名字,游戏剧情自始至终就是个找弟弟暮生的故事,在亦真亦幻的场景间寻找线索,最后算是比较圆满的结局,但现实并不会那么美好,制作者并不想让整体基调过于压抑,也可以视作对美好希望的憧憬;游戏的美术风格非常具有表现张力,有点介于泥塑和油画之间的质感,除了夕生一家是人形,其他出现的角色都是拟动物化的,主要分为蜗牛人和鸟人,用以体现阶级中弱势与强势的关系,并营造出一种诡异的恐怖氛围;游戏中大量采取了台湾民间的传统民俗元素,并通过实地考察老旧宅子,得以在游戏中进行还原,蓝绿的环境光源,也使得整个游戏场景呈现出独特的中式恐怖风格;游戏中全程使用台语配音,就为了能够原汁原味的表现40~50年代台湾的真实环境;谜题设计简单直白,通过直觉和试错就能完成,潜行部分做的较为随意,容错非常大,除了最后走房间入口那里首见容易死,其他地方基本不会失败,游戏时长也是踩在2小时的线上;作为恐怖游戏,更多是进行心理和环境的恐怖营造,没有jumpscare没有转角杀,玩的时候并没有觉得游戏本身是恐怖的,而是能够感同身受当时身处白色恐怖期间普通民众的无助和绝望……
而针对游戏有辱华的争议点,个人觉得有些捕风捉影,对号入座了
1、 为什么没简体中文?
游戏曾在摩点由国内发行Indievent发起众筹失败(在台的众筹是由制作组自己发起),Indievent也就是因发行《还愿》被吊销营业执照的上海橘喵信息科技有限公司,简中是因为有国内发行商而添加,在之前多次访谈中在讲到语言版本计划中并没有提过简中,而且自游戏发行后,制作组已经没有任何新的动态和更新
2、 反派为什么说普通话,穿中山装?
制作组在各种场合都明确说明了游戏的历史背景是40~50年代的台湾,也就是从日占到国民党白色恐怖期间,大量国民党军人以及家属来到台湾,作为“外省人”自然说的不是台语,与其说影射的是大陆更像是在内涵国民党吧,制作组也多次讲过其创作动机,也可以佐证
《夕生》由来自台湾雲林科技大学数位媒体设计系的四位学生的毕业之作,因参加首届UE4台湾创意设计大赛夺得头奖,也曾应邀来上海担任演讲嘉宾,在玩家的鼓励下,主要是有了奖金,开始了完整游戏的创作。开弓没有回头箭,游戏的开发远比预想的困难,时间也比预想的要长很多,随着对游戏期待度的提升,制作品质也在不断提高,美术设计更是改了好几版,原定2019年3月发布也延到了2020年的4月1日才得以最终上市,期间艰辛也只有他们四人自知。而在发布游戏后,在全网几乎没有了制作组的任何新动态,Steam评论区来自大陆玩家的恶评也没有做过一次回应,看来《夕生》的开发已经让制作组的热情消耗殆尽,在早期的访谈中也曾说过,制作游戏并非是他们首选,也许他们已经找到新的方向,祝好运吧!

(I know I don't have much time at all on the game while writing this review, but I've only just been able to buy it. I've known about it for a while before this.)
Honestly? This game rocks. If you want unique puzzles, cool aesthetics, and a powerful story, pick this game up. It's underrated as all heck and I recommend it for anyone looking to experience something new.
Just ignore the negative reviews, it's been bombed by CCP folks who don't agree with the whole "China war crimes are bad" thing.
A really enjoyable game with some unique puzzles and scenery. There really wasn't a second I was playing that I wasn't fully engrossed in what was happening or where the story would turn next. The gameplay is mostly just walking around and interacting with the world, but the world being as interesting as it is and the story being unique definitely make up for that to me.
As the other reviews say, the negative reviews are just CCP nerds upset because the game points out Chinese war crimes not being a good thing
This is by far one of the most beautiful games i've played in a few years. It's kinda short but has a lovely athmosphere, yet creepy af. Would recommend at any cost
Edit: Nominated for Game of the year
The story is set up in the end of WWII when Taiwan was taken back by Chinese nationalist government from Japan, and the nationalist government had done some atrocities to Taiwanese called the 228 event. It is a interesting experience to hear Taiwanese, Japanese , and mandarin all in one game. Overall, it is an interesting little game (pretty short) with unique style of art. IT is worth note that the game was originally a student project. Just ignore the negative reviews in Chinese as most of them are ignorant CCP trolls crying why Taiwanese speaking Japanese.
I found this game from the YouTube channel called Penguinz0 or MoistCritikal. I loved the game, great story and unique puzzles.

Good game, with a great story. With original puzzles that I have never seen before. Would recommend!
The concept is great. The art is fantastic.
Though there's some bugs near the end which is disappointing.
Hope this can be fixed.
EDIT: I've played the second time to get all the documents and photos in order to get the true ending. THERE'S A TRUE ENDING PEOPLE! I'm actually amazed by the story and how it was totally different without seeing the true ending. The gaming experience could improve a bit, but the story and how it was revealed was perfect.
Nice short game, atmospheric, abstract, slightly spooky
There is puzzle solving, short stealth sections, exploration
Story is about finding your brother who has gone exploring and has been kidnapped by monsters
I like the Story so far, it's interesting and the design is nice.
There seem to be some little bugs. I can't continue right now unless with a restart I guess but the devs said in the forum that they'll work on it.
Maybe give it a chance in some days.
