Writing so bad it's funny (fuck you Berkan you retard) but getting all the achievements (and continually coming back to earn the new ones added) is def one of the funniest things I've ever done. If you've got time to waste and friends to stream this game to, it can be stupidly fun. Cheers to the OWF team for making this game even more of a $h!tpost!
You f*cked up my face / 10
I bought this on sale a few years back for a dollar, and never played too far into because it was really bad. Given a few years, they managed to fix a lot of the levels to a playable state and made the gameplay line up with the cut-scenes better. The voice acting is rough, the story is stupid, but I found myself enjoying the new content.
I would consider this "The Room" of videogames
Hunt Down The Freeman is more of a fan fiction if you take the story from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, replace all the characters with original characters and add them to the Half-Life universe.
Is there any point in talking about this game, there are already a lot of videos on YouTube talking about how terrible this game is. Of course, the game now isn't as horrible as it was at launch, but it still doesn't fix the fact that they made more of a terrible game into one that's dumb and functional.
I still can't believe that the director of this game immediately got a job at Activision Blizzard.
In conclusion, better play Entropy: Zero 2 than this game!
An honest and serious opinion: in its current state (owf_developer build specifically) the jank is almost cleaned out and the gameplay loop is surprisingly fun. There's still of course the infamous writing, dialogue and voice acting, but at this point all of that became so much of a meme that you'd probably want to play HDTF just for that.
I love this game i don't get how people hate, the plot is great, the levels are fun, and the weapons are fun. I love how they take abit from MGSV's page because i like that game too
Incredible
You hunt down the Freeman, what else needs to be said.
i got HDTF when it was 50 cents on sale, and it's not worth even that. After years of fixes, the game is still a chore to get through, even if you're playing it ironically.
this game is overhated ngl i rate it a 8.5/10
You have my permission to cry.
even when drunk this game still stinks. feels like a cringey fanfic of mgs (particulary 5) set in the half-life continuity.
Please, im begging you don't buy this game it's worse than i thought...
What a waste of time and money to play this for any reason. Such unscrupulous design in levels and content and more, the indisputable worst game I've ever played.
LITERALLY, THIS IS
THE
BEST GAME EVER
THANK YOU ROYAL RUDIUS ENTERTAINMENT.

horrifying theory: this game is cannon
one of the best games from 2018
It’s fine.
Cheesy af storyline/voice acting, disjointed levels that make no sense and do not connect to each other in any way. Very flat plane level design with no real lasting rememberable locations. The desert level. The city 17 level. Easy AF on all difficulties. (Except for the final rebel levels and epilogue survival)
But otherwise, it’s fine.
Also Berkan pay your devs
6/10

it is a terrible game, but i love it.
You know, thanks to the owf team, i think that this mod is amazing. I did make a mistake of playing version without beta, but after i had to turn on god mode, i knew something was off, so i looked at betas and opned the beta "owf_staging_prep", which did fix those issues lead me to using cheat, overall i enjoyed the game very much, apart from few **minor** bugs i experienced due to how i play the game(aka messing around then softlocking myself). I havent had that much fun in a while with a half-life title. Thanks again to OWF team for fixing up freeman
Wonderful Meme game.
Slept On, FR
not suprised that the creator works for activision since they both like scamming people out of their wallets for botched creations like this
This is Hunt Down the Freeman, take your sensitive ass back to Entropy Zero
Think of the worst half life 2 mod you have ever played, now imagine they charged you any amount of money for that mod and they gave you a worse version of it. This isn't even an elitist take on Half Life and why this game sucks. This game does things no game should.
Awful ADS, they should have just removed it completely and have the hip fire be the only viable option. thank god that is useful still.
This game lacks any sense of challenge. most if not all enemies die in a few hits, sometimes youll run out of ammo, only because the dev had no idea how to space out ammo drops. You'll get an overabundance of ammo at times, and since you can only carry so much, the rest gets left behind and is useless. its not even challenging however, like I need to manage my ammo count. Because again, the enemies are insanely weak or do little damage. So the lack of ammo becomes annoying instead of difficult.
Also there are only a handful of things taken from HL2 that allow this to be called a half life spin off. Sound effects and the head crab zombies, thats it. Some other enemies apparently show up, but at that point who cares? The game plays like an absolute generic FPS, and the physics from HL is so meaningless that its in the way.
Also having to go prone to fit through vents? Its a HALF LIFE game. Let me just crouch, we have been playing HL2 for over a decade at the time of this games development. Like everybody would have been so happy if you copied the base HL2, even the dated graphics would have been better than this.
And again, this isn't being elitist or nit picky. I am all for trying new things even in HL! But so many things are just bad by any standard.
OH and the voice acting and cutscenes are horrendous. I get its a very very small project, but at that point, just do what half life does and NOT have any! it benefits the dev by not having to make cutscenes, and the players applaud you for just doing what HL does.
Very ranty of a review and I never want to be rude. But this feels like a generic military black ops fps that was later shoehorned with a light half life coat of paint, but it turned out horrible because you didn't mix anything right.
I played up until I got lost the dockyards in my old account.. as Steam has the worst reviews, and the 1 hour long videos by those die-hard HL fans (You know which video I'm talking about) of this game aren't really helping either. So I decided to make my review...
Now, HDTF has some interesting ideas by going in Black Mesa as a new soldier, and fighting in that 7HR war as that soldier, finding new squadmates as you try to survive. But it's messy in those ideas and aren't executed well.
It starts with a pretty depressing intro, with young Mitchell and his brother's daddy dying, that brother taken away from him and drowning in guilt.. until he decides to join the force. Later.. In a clean-up operation for Black Mesa, Mitchell gets ambushed by Black Ops and kills him. I like the different outfits they have too. Makes me think there's a division in that force, if you ask me. If all this wasn't made in Source Filmmaker, that'd be great, because the graphics in the cutscenes are nothing like the ones in the game. I honestly don't think a intro like that could be replicated in HL2 fashion anyway without some liberties taken - or just make animated ones in-game. I mean, it's been done before..
After killing the Black Ops soldier, you get a knife and a nice looking Beretta pistol. Feels nice to use, if the sound could be better. Eventually you'll get a silenced MP5 which totally isn't the one from HL1, with a ridiculous 50-round clip (calling them mags is so boring... I'll read a magazine.. oh wait) and a grenade launcher, but it's okay to use nonetheless. The game itself is kind of.. ambitious, with the MP5's scope actually being 3D, and good animations for all weapons. Shame I have to suffer aggressive animations in games, but some look cool though!
Hell, you can prone. You can slide, Hell, you can even climb. and kind of more realistic sprinting. But these are somewhat.. flawed. Climbing doesn't feel like it works half the time and seems jarring and more immersive climbing animations like climbing ladders is.. good and mad. It's very jarring and slow, though. For example you'll prone to go under a table, but the game seems like it doesn't give you many opportunities to go prone against enemies, and sliding is kind nice but the Source Engine is pretty limiting on... everything really. They could've easily made this on another engine because there's not much you can do with Source..
After that, you get in a confrontation with a man. A orange suited man with a helmet that seems like him (sorry for playing the pronoun game). He then beats you, and this man might be that scientist who wears glasses.. and a ponytail, in case anyone forgot. He finishes you off, until you see..
The G-Man! (Whose name is only referenced by those fans or in the game files) "Black Messa" Jokes aside, I think the voice actors, especially the ones of Mitchell, did a good job.. except the voice of that president, so you blame the writers after the dockyards (or so I've seen). So he basically whisks you away to the 7HR war, (It's still unexplained how he can do that, by the way; To HL2's story is messy. Very messy.) And that's where bad things start to come.
This chapter has some things going on like your knife being found in a store, fighting bullet spongy green and red Combine foot soldiers (I think that's what they are) with an nice-looking M4 that also a 3D Scope and a grenade launcher and is good to use, but it doesn't feel that damaging on those enemies. I think that's intentional in a way. Anywhere else on anything that isn't Combine forces, (Like GMOD) that M4 does the job, and a big street map. HL2, as a whole was pretty linear and small in it's map design. The gunplay in HL2 wasn't great. There's like only one assault rifle that's actually good. But it at least it was easy to get around in the maps. HDTF's linear level was Black Mesa, and that's the first mission (not counting the tutorial).
and eventually you'll come across a turret in a balcony. You might think this is an objective; I don't blame you and no one else asks you to provide support either. You can just be at that turret and provide cover fire, but actually you don't need to - just move along. Either have this as a secret objective for some support or don't have it there. Similarly you can hold your position at the middle near some soldiers, but like before - move along. Either have it as a main objective or don't have it there. There's couple of interesting stuff like pitch black offices in a building where you need to use night vision like in Opposing Force, but there could've been a sequence before in Black Mesa which uses this, I'm sure Opposing Force had a couple of sequences like this too, and I haven't even played it.
Later on, the war's over. There's a timer. Seven hours is up. The Combine have won, the president's voice was very cringy and I'm sure his voice actor could do better.
And that was the first chapter.
Then we get on to a train. If you somehow know you need to get on top of it.. a minigun just appears out of thin air. And this is the only time you'll use this minigun - such a waste of a weapon. And then you'll jump on to a military Hummer as a part of a convoy. And honestly, this map fits in to GMOD territory. This isn't on rails and from the way how Mitchell holds the mounted turret suggests that this was supposed to be on rails. And then there's the fact that you can actually free roam around the area, Leave your Humvee and not follow the convoy.. without failing your mission or whatever. It feels unfinished in HL2 but you can fail missions - almost rarely. Later you get to a factory where a gas leak is happening and you get a wrench, but not in the part of the factory you're In. Even Mitchell couldn't believe that guy.
I also had a frustrating experience with the ladder at the docks. I think I died a couple of or just dying and the Dockyard was the last straw for me. I really couldn't find my way around, and I felt like I was playing GMOD with the way how these three maps were. I was lost.
And I'm gonna stop here. I've heard the story gets worse, but the actors did a great job, so I blame the writers, but HDTF proves to be just bad and confusing in it's level design and in failing it's potential. If you want to play a better HL2, try and download HL2 Overcharged. It's a lot more better and fun with a similar Beretta I mentioned and challenging features like weapon limits. It's good despite what people say. And those two youtubers who think that vanilla HL2 was great when I think it isn't great. It's good. It has bad gunplay, messy story but it's alright when it's vanilla. See what I mean about die-hard HL2 vanilla fans in general? Yeah..
THEY WEREN'T LYING, THIS GAME IS ASS !!
A very bad paid Half-Life mod, but it's also unintentionally-hilarious and has earned its place in the history of Half-Life the same way the CD-i games did for Zelda.
i think this game is mid at best
Wish i didnt refund it
This is possibly one of the worst Half-Life mods I have ever played, and having to spend money makes it ten times worse. I don't recommend it if you are looking for half-life mods. Just play Entropy Zero 1 and 2; they are free and ten times better.
Yopoi fucka uppa mah facea
Hunt Down The Skibidi 6 Siege
It's not good. Why do I recommend it? Simple, if you're interested in game design/theory/production- this game is a perfect example of things NOT working well.
Doing a good job means being aware of why things don't work and what that looks like.
10/10 don't be this game.
Unlike what was reviewed by other users of the community and in totally respect of their opinions, personally, I find it a very well made game that gives a different style and point of view to the entire Half-Life saga and, as a fan of it, I congratulate the developers for this small contribution to a series of video games that have become a masterpiece! ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED GAME
Half life but if it was acoustic.
no words
You fucked up my face!
This game is my guilty pleasure.
When I bought this game, it was merely to install it for some assets and textures for my works in Garry's Mod, however I was not expecting for the 2022 build to be such an improvement from 2018. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to others who are willing to try it as I had lots of fun playing this game thoroughly. I give a toast to the developers for their work in this game and I hope the reputation of this game can change from what it originally was years ago.
Fuck Berkan.
Crap.
This mod is great
(not a joke)
YOU KNEW IT WAS ADAM ALL ALONG!
direct message to the Developers: of how the game used to originally look and play out with levels this is way better yes there are still some clunky moments but hey at this point it's tradition for the game but that's an extremely minor the fact that you put some Giggles mostly good game Concepts and the fact that you left some original levels from the old days to the new one all I'll say developers good job and you're welcome for me playing your game
I'm honestly surprised how much I like this game. And judging by the achievements, it wasn't supposed to be taken super serious. Gameplay was a breath of fresh air compared to legit Half-Life and Valve titles. I honestly would not mind a sequel. Sure its no Entropy Zero but its actually worthy title and not bad over all.
This is the best game ive ever played!
It really expands on opposing force hu adding Berkan! Berkan came out of the game and started dancing it was amazing! So play this game!
hunt down the freeman was honestly alright. there were several points that got me stuck because i had zero idea what i was supposed to do, but not nearly as bad as i assume it would have been on release (based on “The Seven Hour Chore” on youtube).
i like how it made me solve puzzles with the combine energy orb at the end despite the fact that i was never introduced to them beforehand. also the bandaid fix for the captain roosevelt death scene where mitchell fucks up the furnaces for no explicable reason (although this is understandable when you inherit a shitty story from the previous team)
overall, i wouldnt say its terribleness is anything special. i enjoyed myself, and the worst part was probably the story, which made me feel like i was just being dragged around by the game while i watched things happen to mitchell. half the time i didnt even know what was going on. in half life 2, i at least had an idea of what i was fighting for or where i wanted to go. in hl2 its mostly go from point A to point B on the way to fuck up shit at point C. in hunt down the freeman its go from point A to point B where you dilly dally before going to point C that you didnt know existed to do something you didnt know mitchell wanted to do.
honestly, the gameplay was pretty fun, and the cutscenes are glorious in their own way. hunt down the freeman is ten bucks and its a fine purchase for that much.
I had fun:
* Escaping the hospital
* Killing Combine in Alaska
* Killing rebels in Black Mesa East
* Killing rebels and zombies in Ravenholm
* Murdering gunships & Combine for Nick to land his helicopter
* Watching Mitch say “You fucked up my face”
* Watching G-Man screw over Mitch
Most of the stuff between New Mexico and California was kind of boring, though.
Listen to what everyone says, this game fucking sucks
