Genuinely one of my favorite horror games. Obtuse in the right ways, and really dedicated to scaring you to death without overdoing it. Go in on this one completely blind if you can.
Robert Eggers' Half-Life 2
Gorgeous
Folk-Horror, not too extreme but very immersive and gripping. And the visuals, the art style are truly unique. If Kafkaesque was a game. One of the most interesting and best games I've played.
Отличная игра, необычная
Рисовка делает ее очень атмосферной, вместе с историей\окружением.
Игра кажется жуткой в некоторых моментах
В целом, есть ощущение, схожие с ощущениями от Мора (Pathologic 2) и Amnesia
В моем прохождении не было багов. Кроме одного - после закрытия игры она не закрывалась (приходилось через стим\диспетчер задач закрывать)
А вообще - игра про то, как мы спасаем бедную козочку
yes
Worth the price i paid for it. I might just not be that into these super european horrors. Wasn't that scary, exploration and looking for clues and keys was OK but man do you move slow!
Somewhat satisfying ending.
Amazing game, originally saw it from a YouTuber, now decided to play myself. Loved the experience, the story, the characters. The style is very unique and memorable. One thing - fighting in the game is barely manageable, so it makes sense to run from everyone all the time.
Stunning in its presentation - gripping from start to finish. If folk horror ticks one of your boxes, it's a must own.
the game is that one unforgettable encounter we all experience.
Mundaun is an amazing experience. The art style is gorgeous. It's based off a real village in Switzerland which makes the story more intruiging. I was hooked for every hour over the course of the game. It takes about 7 hours to beat, but the gameplay reinvents itself every hour. It doesn't get boring. I highly recommend it if you like the art, dark fantasies or the Swiss Alps.
Great story and atmosphere, distinct visuals.
Slow burn but a very intriguing narrative with genuinely scary moments. Big fan of the hand drawn pencil art. The art style fits the game’s theme perfectly. There's about 60,000 people on earth that don’t need the subtitles, but the Romansh language adds to the lore and immersiveness.
8.8/10
Mundaun is the kind of indie game that wipes the floor with triple-A games and their fancy graphics. Here you have unique hand-drawn, pencil textures, very basic animations, a tight world-design, clunky combat and enemies that are mostly annoying rather than scary. And yet I have thoroughly enjoyed every second in this world, and will remember these memorable characters and story for a long time!
It presents a rich, immersive and dream-like experience in a Swiss-inspired world. It's mostly a linear journey but there's just enough exploration in here to keep things interesting. I really liked the story and its characters and it's just horror enough to keep things on edge but never crosses into overly disturbing territory or makes you afraid to see what's around the next corner. In fact, I couldn't wait to see what comes next, as every scene, interaction or transition is filled with atmosphere, amazing sound design and music.
Do not skip this one! It's memorable, special and clearly made with love.
First and foremost, Mundaun is a beautiful game. Some parts of it are absolutely gorgeous. Another thing I loved was that the game doesn't hold your hand and relates essential information subtly, without breaking immersion.
Some of the gameplay mechanics, including combat, were not well fleshed out. Also, I enjoyed the first half more, with its slower and more laid back pace. The final stretch felt more linear, even rushed, and while the ending brought the drama's arc to a close, I found it lacking of the power and the finesse of preceding chapters of the story.
A solid recommendation, especially when on sale; Mundaun is a mesmerizing experience.
Incredibly immersive!
Cozy walking sim with some spooky parts, has a fantastic story with a Unique art style, some pretty nice music, and the voice acting added alot to the setting. Also i was surprised to see that there were multiple endings to get which was a nice touch.
A wonderful, picturesque and quaint game with a rustic charme and a mystical story about the past, morality and religion. Passionately designed with hand-drawn textures, haunting music, eerie scenes and beautiful vistas. This game is fantastic.
6/10
I think this is a cool atmospheric game. It's very formulaic in terms of exploration and puzzles. But a cool ride nonetheless. I was enjoying it a lot at the beginning but as the game progressed and I realised it was just more of the same I was a bit less excited to continue. A bit buggy. Many instances of getting stuck because all interactions stopped working. Cool mystery with some horror. Combat is very bare bones and underdeveloped. Drags on way too long for how "simple" it is. Was kind of hoping for some kind of boss at the end. Almost like some crazy eerie Swiss folklore.Good slow burn
Fell through the map halfway through the game and couldn't get to my last checkpoint for some reason, so I'm leaving behind this bad review. Also, the game sucks, so there's that.
I was really invested in the what was going on. Nice and spooky. Would have worked just as well without any enemies though, I found them mildly annoying more than anything else.
you sure can learn a lotta interesting stuff when you stop to talk to goats!
Extremely beautiful and immersive. Also surprisingly scary at times. The controls can be a little janky, and some of the deaths can be a little unfair, but otherwise it’s a great game.
Note for steam deck users: this game chugs the battery and can really only be played smoothly on the lowest quality settings and limiting framerate to 40 fps. If you do that, it runs perfectly.
Not baaa-d, this game is just bleat-iful! Goatally awesome!

Final Verdict
Of all vaguely non-euclidean, occasionally surrealist, hand-drawn investigative folk-horror crime games where you bumble about in proto-swiss-challet cabins. This is, at the very least, top three.
A Swiss Alps survival folk horror with a unique pencil shaded aesthetic. Delightfully creepy and surreal. Ten out of ten talking goats!
Don't read what this game is about. Go into it blind.
Buggy, clunky, ending i got has logical fallacy. Game is pretty i guess
This is a fun little walking simulator, with a nice pencil colored art style. While it's hard for me to classify it completely as "horror" there was definitely one moment which gave me a startle.
I'd say it's got a pretty nice ambiance, taking place in the Swiss mountains. Though, the story often verges into a bit of absurdist surrealism, which makes the tone a bit unusual at times.
The game is short too. You can easily finish this in a day.
Mundaun is an interesting game carried primarily by its art style and atmosphere. The hand drawn but still 3D style of the game ensures it will be a memorable experience and really helps it create a fantastic atmosphere. The developers love of the game's setting is clear as well. The feeling of being in the mountains is captured well and small touches like a chair lift that rattles at the appropriate time over pylons adds a lot to the game. The story of the game is decent though it won't stick with me for too long. The biggest issue with the game is the enemies and combat. It's never clear whether is really focused on stealth, combat, or another approach however none of these ideas are satisfying or even fully functional. Still, I'd recommend grabbing this game on a sale just to experience what makes it unique because those aspects are genuinely worth experiencing.
World War Weird
Mundaun is a celebration of the unusual, perfectly combining just the right quantities of mystery, intrigue and fear to concoct a cocktail that is unlike anything you've ever tried before. None of its ingredients, nor the emotions they evoke upon the player, are overpowering to the extent that they dilute the others, and rarely have I played a game where I am regularly unable to predict - even guess - what will happen next.
The game mostly involves exploring one of the three decent-sized areas of the map, using NPC conversations, environmental storytelling, and occasional combat to help you complete each objective in your journal that, in turn, helps to clarify the fateful actions your grandpa took decades ago in the war that eventually led to his mysterious demise.
The visual aesthetic of the game is as unusual as it is captivating, and it doesn't change from the opening bus ride until you reach one of the five endings. This charcoal drawing effect may take some getting used to at first, but you soon realise that it's absolutely perfect, as it gives the player the constant feeling that they're not quite in reality, heightening their sense of unease, and adding an extra angle to the occasionally-injected moments of horror that the game loves to throw at you from time to time.
The endings themselves are perhaps the only criticism I have for this work of art, for the simple reason that including the "multiple endings based on your decisions throughout the game" trope felt unnecessary and superfluous. It doesn't go over the top with it - five possible endings based on two or three decisions during gameplay - but the ending that I, along with most other people, got, would have been perfectly fitting by itself.
Some may also criticise the game's combat mechanics, aiming and "firing" your weapons feeling cumbersome and unintuitive. However, I didn't mind that approach, as it reinforced upon me the notion that I'm just an ordinary guy trying to figure out what on Earth is going on around here. Furthermore, with combat only being a minor element of the game (indeed it can be avoided altogether as demonstrated by the pacifist Steam achievement), this minor gripe holds little traction.
Don't let either of these minor points put you off though, as the art style, audio, exploration, continuous mild unease, creative gameplay elements and well-written story are more than enough to make Mundaun a worthy purchase.
The beginning of Mundaun felt slow and heavy—its sparse landscapes and plodding pace seemed to signal a walking simulator with little to offer. But everything changed the moment I received the paper airplane from the girl, Flurina. Suddenly, the game opened up, pulling me into its surreal, haunting world. I found myself playing until 3 a.m., not because it was terrifying, but because of its dreamlike alpine atmosphere. This isn’t horror; it’s a surreal, artistic journey through hand-drawn mountain vistas, where the urge to take screenshots often overtakes any sense of fear. There’s an artist’s hand at work here, evident in every charcoal sketch and pencil stroke.
Mundaun is the passion project of Swiss developer Michel Ziegler, who single-handedly crafted the game over several years. Every texture is meticulously hand-drawn with charcoal and pencil, giving the world a deeply personal and hauntingly tactile quality. Its artistic direction and atmospheric storytelling certainly put it in the same conversation as Annapurna's catalog of thoughtful, visually distinctive games.
Culturally, Mundaun is steeped in Swiss folklore and alpine mythology, drawing heavily from the rural traditions and eerie, remote settings of the Swiss Alps. The game's eerie pastoral landscapes and surreal narrative elements evoke works like David Lynch's Twin Peaks or the novels of Franz Kafka, where the ordinary is infused with unsettling, dreamlike qualities. There’s also a touch of classic European horror cinema, with echoes of German Expressionist films like Nosferatu, where shadows and silence are as much a character as the people within the story.
The talking goat head brings to mind the dark humor and surrealism of films by Emir Kusturica, while the game’s meditative pacing and reflective atmosphere could remind players of Andrei Tarkovsky’s films, like Nostalgia or The Sacrifice. The combat, awkward and dreamlike, feels almost intentional in its clumsiness, mirroring the sense of helplessness found in works like Kafka’s The Trial, where characters struggle against unseen forces beyond their control. Or Russian novelist Leonid Andreyev with his symbolism and expressionism as well.
The combat, involving awkward pitchforks, feels clumsy, almost as if you’re fighting in a dream. But you forgive it, because the world itself is so meticulously crafted. Snow-covered peaks, creeping fog, hanging nooses—they all beg to be captured in a frame. Ghostly reflections shimmer on the lake’s surface, while sinister old men lurk in the distance, their silhouettes tinged with menace. And yet, it’s hard not to laugh when driving the truck through these surreal landscapes—it reminded me of Far Cry (ha-ha, yeap), with its janky speed and off-kilter perspective.
Mundaun is a strange, beautiful experience. It's a piece of folk art, rooted in a specific cultural heritage yet offering universal themes of fear, exploration, and human fragility. Its hand-drawn visuals, steeped in tradition, expand beyond the confines of horror to create a deeply immersive, surreal journey that lingers long after the final screen fades to black.
Very well crafted with clever ideas and great scenario.
Not too long, reminded me the experience I had with Kona or Firewatch
Very pertty game 10/10
8/10 - Mesmerising hand-drawn art and strong atmosphere made me forget about combat flaws. Definitely worth checking out
The sketch book art style absolutely makes Mundaun. Beyond it being visually unique, it feels essential to building the creepy atmosphere found here. The narrative is a weird take on atoning for the crimes of the past. For the most part I enjoyed it, but the game doesn’t quite stick the landing. If you want a game that wouldn’t feel too out place from an A24 film, Mundaun feels like a great choice.
Came here from an old RagnarRox video.
Delightful little game. Really suits fans of folk horror with its interesting designs and the balance between the whimsy of walking around the beautiful mountain air and the dread and horror lingering under it is struck well. Incredible art design and I very much enjoyed my time in Switzerland.
The main criticism is a lot of goals and puzzles are not well telegraphed and can be infuriating when something super minor with no indication at all, is a major part of a puzzle.
Self proclaimed horror game, but it`s more than that:
It has a design style like no other.
It has an environment/scenery very unusual for any kind of game.
It has masterpiece sound ambient.
It is funny and invites player to explore.
Definitely a gem hidden in the Steam Store, give it a try.
I rly enjoyed the art and the overall atmosphere of the game. It was a gripping story and i never got bored. The combat can be abit annoying at first , but you eventually learn how to avoid it , and it gets easier as the game goes on. loved all the puzzle aspects and connecting all the dots.
This game might be the perfect version of a walking sim. It's got a great story, it oozes atmosphere, and there's actual gameplay both in the form of combat/stealth as well as good puzzles. In addition to this the game has fairly large areas to explore but it guides the player quite well towards forward progression. This is done in obvious ways through lines of dialogue and on screen tips and also in more subtle ways like placing an excess of spare keys and visual contrast in the areas of the game to help navigate. The game also has many convivence features like good checkpoints, faster travel mechanisms (along with workarounds in case you leave your vehicle behind or get stuck). Even the fact that the game tracks every save as a separate file is great for exploring the multiple endings!
On the negative side I've only got a few critiques. I felt that the story's pacing got a bit stagnant towards the end of the 2nd act in to the 3rd, though it was never bad it just got a bit of a slog where it has you running back and forth across large areas. I also found the bee segment to be more frustrating than clever or immersive. While I immediately knew how to combat this enemy I died several times due to the janky item usage in the game. It would have ruined the immersion but some sort of visual indicator for your cooldown would have been so nice. Aside from that one segment the combat is well tuned, it's doable to fight enemies but clearly not the best option, especially if you're playing on hard mode where one pitchfork is likely to only last long enough to take out one enemy. The driving mechanics were fun albeit comically janky, which did take me out of the more serious tone the rest of the game is going for but it's overall a net positive.
Very much worth checking out if you're looking for a heavily story driven game that's a nice slow burn.
This is an EXCELLENT game to play in autumn/winter. The atmosphere is immaculate and it is incredibly unique.
short and simple. nothing crazy in terms of horror. puzzles pretty simple. story interesting. "combat" isn't really there, you mostly just try to ignore the enemies. the handdrawn graphics are pretty cool. i like that you can drive a car, helps speed things up.
this is actually one of the best games i have ever played. it's unique in its one way not only artistically but also the gameplay, the storytelling and every tiny little detail is perfectly set. thank you for creating this game, i enjoyed every second of it.
One of the best indie/horror games I ever played.
The art is cool and the story is interesting, but the combat/ stealth sucks balls. You shouldn't even bother putting stuff like that in the game if it's going to be so poorly done. It's detrimental to the experience.
A little janky, but very charming. Carried hard by it's well done and unique visuals, definitely worth checking out.
Adieu Flurina
It was a fun adventure, loved the artstyle and the puzzles weren't too bad.
The kinda game you sink right into. I absolutely loved it.
There's something meditative about it. You don't feel rushed, or like you're plodding around aimlessly. You can pretty much explore this Swiss village at your leisure. Soaking in the wee cultural touches you've never seen before. Picking up clues to what's happening here and there.
Such a unique look with all hand drawn textures, and that off-white colour palette. Everybody speaking beautiful Romansh. Unsettling imagery paced just right. Man, this would have absolutely been my 2021 GOTY if I'd played it at release.
