A poor excuse for an ARPG. I'd excuse it for it's simplistic gameplay. But I draw the line when a developer's incompetence becomes part of the "difficulty"...A tedious and trite experience throughout...
We are so used to licenses full of novelties, beauties,... lots of things in fact that we forget what made us love video games one day. Maybe not for the youngest, of whom I am no longer a part ;). In short, for people like me, it's quite pleasant to rediscover forgotten sensations... So I like it.
Not entirely thrilled with the game. I was hoping for better, but this is just awful. Originally, I thought this game came out back when Silent Hill and Resident Evil started, and that was my excuse for the cruddy camera angles. Took me back to the early 2000s but this was a game made in 2019! The combat is horrible, and was so frustrating, that I uninstalled the game.
Rating 1/10
Do not recommend.
I played it for less then 5 min. The sound cuts out whever you do an action. The attack is delayed, and enemies are faster than you. Glitchy. Needs work.....
"Eternity" surprised me in many different ways. It is a fast, rewarding and fun action-adventure with fixed camera and a graphic design that reminds me of a Playstation 2 game in the most positive ways. Might it be wanted or not: The overall feeling of playing a retro adventure gives me a level of enjoyment that drags my mind into the game, forgetting all real-life around me. What comes to the more past-oriented gameplay is the presentation of the story, being told in no-voice, plain and short text elements, telling me all that I need to continie my adventure. During the game, you run as either an elven warrior or a viking warrior (you can only select them at the end, and its only a pseudo-option, because you need one or the other in certain situations), both with two weapons to chose from. There's no character customization, but levelling up is highly rewarding because you grow stronger. Levelling up the weapons on the other hand is a hard thing to do, because the components for crafting are extremely rare. Be aware that you'll visit the same locations over and over again to find that one door that opened through a story event. But - and I don't know why at all - all those re-visits are enjoyable as hell! As is the whole game, that was a nice, refreshing experience!
I thought I'd try this game out, and noticed it was on sale for about 2 dollars so I figured why not? Well,
Even if this game was free, stay away from this stinker. I promise you you're wasting your time on this one. even at 2 dollars, it's not worth it. I don't need to add to what has already been said about it. Just look at all the other massively negative reviews. Spare yourself the misery and avoid!
This game is not for me. The fixed camera angles make it hard for me to play it. The combat is a bit unwieldy for me, it's just not intuitive for me. I can't really get behind the story, i just don't care about a dam unicorn thing that makes elves immortal.
At least the graphics are nice. The game is challenging. The world/lore is interesting but is just not for me. The fact that it's awkward on the controller is what put me off this game.
If you think you like this sort of thing go for it.
Let's say magical world is interesting. BUT controls are worst I have ever had. This title is unplayable. If you like to suffer and feel pain, this title is for you.
Eternity: The Last Unicorn is a action fantasy RPG
You play a young Elf on quest to free the last Unicorn travel through vast locations and meet fantasy characters and killing some baddies on the way
not a bad game the game play is ok camera view it's not the best, especially in boss fights. nice puzzles.fairly difficult in a good way This is nice classic RPG
This is nice classic rpg with bosses, craft, multiple characters and a lot of lore. I'm really not sure why it is "mostly negative" and on the bottom of my steam library, I played it for few evenings and really liked it.
I'm a contrarian. I would not recommend this game for most people, but if you're an oddball like me you might find some fun here.
The high fantasy art style drew me in, it looks like a fairy tale. I like that. The graphics however remind me of a PS2 game, and the gameplay reminds me of a PS1 game where the industry is still trying to figure out 3D camera angles and controls. This will frustrate most modern gamers, but I kind of liked it. Maybe I'm a masochist. I also enjoyed Dino Crisis 3.
It's a short experience, and even then it started to get repetitive. I did enjoy myself though, it felt retro like 1997.
I did in the end enjoy the game but it took me a while to come to that. The game is rather frustrating because its got so many bugs and crashes alot. Also no mater how much you level and upgrade you can die very quickly. The camera angles are terrible which doesn't help when your battling and it suddenly changes on you. Honestly this isn't a game i would recommend to anyone more due to the bugs than the actual game.
No one ever said elves are nice.
Elves are bad.

* SIGH * Lord, help me with this one... OK, where should I start? 1C. You know how it is about this publisher. The guys just don't have any self-respect. I mean, most of the publishers don't because... you know. Money. But this one? Let's just say that there's a good reason for "C" in their name to be pronounced as /ˈɛs/ instead of /ˈsiː/. I mean, the Cyrillic origins aside (because yes, it's a Russian company), this company is an ass. Always was (no, I did not forget StarForce DRM and crappy cutdown releases like Parkan with no music and Konung II with no voices), always will be. The guys are always ready to publish all sorts of crap as long as it means quick money. And... here it is. A crap. For quick money.
Long story short, what we have here is the cheapest Demon's Souls clone you can ever imagine. Seriously, it's so cheap that it's not even voiced. Even the intro in this game is just some basic visuals with subtitles. And no voice. I'm not trying to say that not having a big budget is the worst thing that can happen to the game, of course. A lot of brilliant games were made with close to no budget at all, but first – I want you to understand what you're dealing with since screenshots in Steam don't really look that bad (the game looks way worse in reality but I'll return to it a bit later), and second... Well, you know. It's yet another game that was ruined by developers' ambitions. Sure, Demon's Souls / Dark Souls series is not the most expensive thing out there and yet, aiming for something like that... with the budget of couple cup noodles and soda (fancy!)? With no experience whatsoever? Let's just say it was pretty obvious how it'll end since very beginning. And of course, 1ASS was there to publish it. Enjoy.
I can't... really say that the game was that bad on paper, though. Sure, the story is a joke and the atmosphere is kinda idiotic (at one point they're trying to do Norse mythology thing and tell you about gods and stuff like that, and then they drop Butt Stallion from Borderlands and “sexy” elves from Lineage), but gameplay-wise, it wasn't really that bad. On paper. We'll switch between two characters with different powers, we'll look for secrets, we'll create shortcuts, we'll acquire new powers, we'll level up, we'll update our weapons, etc. The problem is, all that feels absolutely terrible. Absolutely. Completely. Terrible. Even the most basic things like moving and fighting feel cheap. Playing this game is like playing one of those clunky cheap action games from PlayStation 2 era. Didn't feel that bad back in the days since pretty often we didn't really know better, but having a cheap PS2 game in 2019? It's like a very sophisticated way of torturing yourself. Ever felt like you're guilty of something and deserve punishing? Here's your way to pay for your sins.
It's not like there'll be a lot to do, though. The entire thing comes with only a few tiny little screens. The amount of time you'll need to finish this game will come from two things – grinding and confusion. You'll often need to grind for levels and materials (the game will force you to manually craft quest items now and then and you'll probably want to overpower your enemies like on early difficulties in Demon's Souls, due to the fact that enemies will be able to kill you from a couple of hits doesn't really go well with clunky controls, bugs and stuff like that that eliminate tactics as a thing), while the game will also never tell you where to go. Which, again, isn't that bad on paper (quest markers are for kids, lol), but in the end... well... let's just say that, like its publisher, this game can be an ass. For example, I've spent an hour trying to find an upgrade for my bow. A bloody hour! And then it turned out that I was supposed to return at the very beginning of the game and talk with the store owner there. How? Why?! Why should the old NPC I've met ages ago give me an upgrade now? Where's logic in that?! Unfortunately, that's how the exploration works here. You just re-visit the same few places and look at the every corner in hope something will happen. No logic involved. Should I say that it doesn't feel good?
Doesn't look good either. I mean, come on, guys! Even though this game is using the Unreal engine, it didn't allow me to go higher than 1920x1080. I mean... 1080p... in 2009... Seriously? Like... seriously? A lot of us already have 8K TVs and yet... there's a game... on Unreal Engine... that won't let you to go higher than Full HD? Good God y'all... Even though design here is not that bad and I even liked a couple of monsters (like that forest guardian... dude or funny turtles, for example), the game still looks like a crap. I've already said that this game can feel a lot like a cheap action from PS2 times, but guess what? It can look that way too. Would like to say that it sounds that way too, but honestly, aside from some crappy music that will remind you of all those f2p farming games from mobiles, there's pretty much no sound here. Make sure to log in to Spotify (not a sponsor, lol) before starting this game. Otherwise you risk getting bored long before you'll reach the first dungeon. If we can call something that small a dungeon.,,
So, here's the question – do you really need the Demon's Souls downgraded to PS2 level by some inexperienced guys who barely knew how to work with the Unreal Engine and were ready to work for food? In my opinion, the only possible answer to that question is no. Even with 90% off, this game still doesn't worth your time. It's cheap, it's clunky and it's extremely noobish. Even the other cheap games from 1C, like Devil's Hunt, for example, begin to look like bloody masterpieces in comparison with this monstrosity. You know how sometimes the kids are like "Mommy, mommy! Buy me that cool-looking superheroes toy set!" and mom's like "We have one at home!" And naturally, what they have at home is a bloody Sense of Right Alliance (you google it - you won't be able to unsee it). Eternity: The Last Unicorn is that exact kind of situation. You ask your mom for Demon's Souls Remastered and what you get is... this. A rip-off toy set... with Shrek pretending to be a superhero... because some greedy companies out there don't really care about you and your kids. Seriously, guys, do yourself a favor and play something else. Remember – you only have one life. Don't be like me and don't waste it on such a cheap crap from 1C's library of agony despair. Dixi.
Great Game and after recent update even better!!
Haven't played much but will certainly play it more now.
I do recommend this game.
The lore in the game is quite entertaining and the story is well driven and engaging.
I like the story idea. However, the controls are awkward and the view jumps every few feet. I've had to redo sections soooooo many times to get through an area it makes me want to pull my hair out. Sad, as the concept is fun. Game play, not so much.
Literally the worst game i have ever attempted to play on numerous occasions. The controls and camera angles are like nothing i have ever experienced and would never like to experience again..
The game has nice visual but feels extremely bland
It's difficulty due to lack of camera controls and bad controls in general I'm ok with dying when it's my fault but not when it's because I can't see my character properly, not to say that you don't need to evade enemies attack and counter properly but again the controls are pretty bad and no camera controls at all
There is no voice acting which is not an issue for me but worth mentioning
I thought I would like this game because I like fantasy but this game just lacks on so many areas that I can't enjoy it, such a shame :(
I asked for a refund
TL:DR:
Recommended if you don't mind clunky old school games.Pros:
- Challenging
- Decent graphics
- Interesting world/lore
Cons:
- Some oddly placed checkpoints
- Bugs
- Meh crafting system
- Can skip some cutscenes but not others. Some really need a fast forward option for text
- Repetitive enemies and music
- Fixed camera doesn't really work for this type of game
[*]Achievements might be bugged
Closing Thoughts:
I know I listed a lot of cons so it would make more sense to not recommend the game. However, I actually enjoyed myself for the most part. The cons were mostly annoyances and odd design decisions. It mostly felt like playing an old PS2 hack and slash RPG. I think it could have worked a lot better with a standard 3rd person camera or overhead like Badlur's Gate: Dark Alliance. I would play a sequel with the issues addressed.
Note on achievements: I played via my Steam Link so I'm not sure if that caused an issue but I didn't get a single achievement. I don't really care about them but if you do, it might be worth looking into before you play.
”An Unique Tales of Action RPG that could have done better.”
The era of classic action RPG is always fascinating and brings memories when I used to play on consoles. Eternity: The Last Unicorn is an attempt to bring those feeling back to players, developed by Void Studios from Brazil and published by 1C Entertainment.
---------------------------------------------------------
Folktale comes to Life
Eternity presents the unique setting based on Nordic Mythology. When the first elves reached the Reign of Alfheim, they received four sacred unicorns from guardian of nature, Marea. The unicorns brought purity, balance, and immortality to elves, but everything was not last long. The unicorns disappeared by some kind of witchcraft as only one last unicorn survived, but suffered by curse and damaged horn. You played as young elf named Aurehen, tasked by Makala to find the way to dispel curse of last unicorn. You will later meet Bior as another playerable character. Eternity is a story of both heroes, one who restore the balance and one who fight for his missing brothers.
The game brings you to realm of Vanaheim, each area you visit has architecture inspired by Nordic elements and lore page is interesting to read. I personally like hard-drawn cutscenes which gives sense of folktale. However, the game lacks narrative voice which is a missed opportunity and transition between lines is unnecessary long. While the duo protagonists (elf and Viking) can potentially create engaging story, it fails to developer character relationship along with other NPCs due to few interaction and disconnection.
---------------------------------------------------------
Two Heroes, Two Tastes Combat
Eternity features old-school hack’n slash combat with fixed camera angles on each section. You explore the area and solving puzzle to gain access to next main area. Each area has tons of hidden items and chests. Some can be accessed by new weapons, ability, or another character. The game has light RPG system, you gain experience point from killing enemies. Each level will automatically increase stats (power, resistance, attack speed, etc.) of current character (up to max lv.50), meaning there is no option to choose individual skills or attribute for player. You also collect materials to craft consumable and key item. Red crystal shards from destroying prop and fallen enemies are used as trading currency and upgrade main weapons. Overall, it’s pretty much straightforward and doesn’t offer complexity.
Same as combat, you attack with light or heavy attack which is slightly slower, but stronger. You can perform dodge in direction which give you invulnerable frame to incoming attack. Both characters also gain access to secondary weapons (Skadian Bow for Aurehen and Tyr Sword for Bios). They serve purpose as key item and weapon against shielded enemies in late game.
---------------------------------------------------------
Obscure in Designs
The game has some elements like Dark Soul series (Boss UI, campfire save point, respawn enemies), but the design is more like Onimusha series (and other PS2 fixed-camera games). Although, the concept of Eternity is promising, the execution is done poorly. Aside from stiff animation, most attack patterns are hard to read and always come up with instant animation. Everytime, you get hit; character will be stun locked for few seconds. This becomes major problem when you face multiple enemies which are 90% of fight. Moreover, fixed cameras are placed in strange places and close to ground level (or zoom-out way too far), meaning you barely see another side in depth and clear distance between player and enemies. Fighting in tight corridor can be very frustrating especially on late game where you face shielded enemies. Hitting shield or environment will flinch player and make player vulnerable for next stun lock. The conflict between designs result unforgiving deaths and best strategy is to spam dodge and attack until you win the fight.
Eternity also has difficult spikes. Some are fairly challenged and fun, but some are really terrible due to inconsistent hibox and sloppy animation. Bad telegraphed attacks and overpowered damage are things that shouldn’t excuse as challenge. I have to force myself grinding for more levels to gain enough resistance and attack speed. It kinda throws me off when inconsistence makes story less engaging.
---------------------------------------------------------
Sounds
Soundtrack delivers strong feeling of classic fantasy theme and fit well to Nordic element especially finale part. It’s mixed between calm, mysterious, and powerful. The downside is sound design which is generic and character’s battlecry can get repetitive and annoying.
---------------------------------------------------------
Graphics & Performance
Eternity runs on Unreal Engine 4 which is features high quality rendering and post-processing effects. I personally don’t take graphics as serious topic. Some angles show beautiful scene, but some environments look floaty and lack proper casting shadow. Surprisingly, performance is solid (Intel i5-3450, 8GB RAM, GTX 1050Ti 4GB VRAM on highest settings) as I experience no crash or game-breaking bug. However, the game lacks of key binding option of keyboard and mouse at release. Some players might find it more uncomfortable with default keys.
---------------------------------------------------------
Verdict
Eternity has a lot of potential settings and concept to be a great fun indie action RPG. It has some memorable scenes and fights, but most of times I get frustrated by combat design, unreliable enemies, and camera placement. It feels cheap more than fair difficulty when I compared to similar games. Eternity still needs a lot of reworks and polishing to improve overall issues. It’s not game designed for casual player or people who want to only enjoy storytelling. Even though, you are hardcore players, I can’t recommend at full price. It’s better to try on deep sale or balanced version.

CAUTION: This is a difficult game. Please understand that this has a Dark Souls Lite style gameplay and it is frustrating and difficult by design. You're playing on hard mode.
While there are a few kinks that need to be worked out, this game is absolutely gorgeous and a lot of fun for the more hardcore gamers. It pays tribute to the old fixed camera style which is good and bad. You'll find the switching between cameras can throw off your movement sometimes. It's not a game breaker, but it can be rough. With that said, this was a rewarding experience. Progress was tough sometimes and there wasn't a quest tracker. Knowing where to go next sometimes takes some serious exploring. And you die. A lot.
The RPG aspect of Eternity is strangely absent. I notice that I've been leveling up but I don't see any indication of stat increases and there's no points to spend on new skills or abilities. There is a crafting system that is mostly use to craft quest items but if you farm enough, you can make useful +damage or +regeneration runes.
It's hard. It's unforgiving. But it's worth it. If you're a Souls veteran, you'll feel at home in this indie treasure.
What could have been a decent Dark Souls style limited-resource survival action RPG instead turns out to be one clunky, quiet, and uninteresting game. I'm not the best when it comes to games of this type but I tried, I really did. It wasn't even an hour before I gave up in the second area not so much from the difficulty but the lack of strive to push forward. Nothing about this game makes me *want* to play it more.
The stiff and awkward controls coupled with the static camera and often small spaces make it hard to dodge enemy attacks. On top of that, enemies in the second area hit for half of the health bar and then explode. That seems to be a bit too much of a difficulty spike, like giving a middle finger to the player.
The music and sound effects are bland to the point where I didn't even notice them when I first started playing. The quiet harp and string instruments don't provide any gravitas to the situations.
As an added insult to injury, it doesn't look like Unreal Engine 4 at all; a late build of UE3 maybe. I had everything turned up to the max and it looked like only half the strength of what the engine is capable of.
Just about the only drawing point would be the lore, which is what attracted me to play it, only to find out that it's barely there. A shallow story, with no direct mission objective, and I don't care anymore.
If there were a future update that could allow for better controls that aren't so half-baked, or just any improvement overall, then I might play it again. But for now, you can keep your Dark Souls style games, I don't want any part of them.
Not so polished as other recent titles but definetively intriguing. Fixed camera does give exploring a different taste. Combat is satisfying and fun in spite of sometimes feeling / looking clunky. What I like the most so far is the 1990-2000 adventure game atmosphere, where you, like, have to craft something out of something to get somewhere. There are hints of secrets to be found, dark-souls-like doors that "won't open from this side" (how come???) and stuff. So far, so good.
Update: loved the crypt entrance puzzle. Made me pull out a sheet of paper and take notes for the first time in a long time. It's simple, but elegant.
I like the journal entries and tidbits of lore that are dished out in loading screens and certain items. Makes me pause once in a while to read and take in the background story.
The dual character system seems asymetrical - the guy Bior was only playable for a short section and lorewise seems less important then the elf girl. So far only she's fought bosses too (four and counting). Maybe he's meant to be a sidekick?
Combat sometimes becomes unfair due to weird clipping and invisible walls. But it does require some study of the enemies' behavior and now I see why it's been labeled as a "souls lite".
For the price it's being sold for, I still think it deserves a chance.
