Warning: Asset Flip!
Hidden Object - Food is a Unity Asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", BoogyGames Studios, took the Hidden Object Game Template Unity Store tutorial/demo/game asset pack from the real developers, Puppeteer, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work.
It gets worse... "Hidden Object Game Template" has also been shamelessly dumped on Steam by other asset flippers apart from BoogyGames Studios:
- "Find This!", asset flipped by For Kids
Take a look for yourself... it's exactly the same game!
BoogyGames Studios has shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:
- "Weapon and Armor: Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
- "Loot Collection: Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
- "Food Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
- "Color By Number - Pixel Draw" = Pixel Art: Color By Number developed by Moana Studio
- "Pixel Art Monster - Color By Number" = Pixel Art: Color By Number developed by Moana Studio
- "Rainbow Duck" = Switch The Gravity developed by App Advisory
[*] "Case Simulator Weapons and Armors" = Yet Another Case Opener developed by NeraQuam
The products that result from asset flips aren't "real" games. They lack depth and content, because they're just simplistic copies of demos or tutorials. In this case, "Hidden Object Game Template" is just a template/tutorial for making simple hidden object/match puzzles, and doesn't have any merit as a proper, fully fledged PC game, so this copy+paste/reskin of it can't be recommended.
Asset flips don't involve any professional game development. Sure, sometimes they may change a few cosmetic things, swap out different assets etc, but at heart it's functionally identical to the asset they're ripping off.
Asset flips like this are harmful to the gaming industry and to Steam because they reduce the visibility that sincerely made indie games should have, and make it harder for gamers to find real games from genuine developers.
Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from BoogyGames Studios.
Find two peases.
This game sucks! Just a screen fill of items and told to find one (or two) of an item... and that's it, over and over again... no plot, no other modes, just one thing. Not engaging at all.
just stupid
Hidden Object - Food is not even worth the 0.49 cents it is on sale for. At best, it should be one of those free game apps that displays ads between levels - if it even had levels, which it doesn't. I do not recommend it.
The root problem is that there is only one mode, timed, and very briefly timed at that. It is meant to be played in speedy sessions just to rack up a higher score that it does not keep track of. There are three difficulty modes that give you instructions like "Find 2 coffees." 2 Coffees? Does that mean cup of coffee? Does that mean coffee beans? Well, just wait a few seconds because the game vibrates the objects you are looking for if you aren't moving quickly enough - and there is no way to turn that cheaty feature off.
Next object ... find 3 bones. BONES? Bones aren't food for humans last time I checked. And, for some reason, these bones are about 1/3rd the size of all the other objects on the screen. Why? I seriously think they are meant to be game stoppers.
There is an icons option which just shows you a picture of the object to find instead of the words. The objects will get progressively smaller, but this still doesn't pose much of a challenge until the game starts asking you to find hummingbird bones every third object. Yum! Better wash that down with an entire bucket of water and then you can have a jellyfish for dessert.
Hidden Object - Food, how well do you know your foods?
Our verdict: Unworthy
Find out why in our full game review.
This game costs pennies and that is about what it is worth.
It is a boring, monotonous, repetitive game.
Kinda fun at first but quickly gets boring
This was amusing to play for a few moments. It helped me train my observation skills of finding objects. This is especially good for waking up! It gets harder as you go along, but pause let's me see everything...so in order to have a challenge = don't pause, unless you have to. Thanks for making a skilled challenge to hone our skills! :)
Cheap little pointless time waster.
Pros:
1. Nice graphics.
2. Interesting concept for HO game.
3. Cheap price.
Cons:
1. No high score table. What is the point of playing if you can't track getting better at it?
2. No way to turn off sound effects. Music can be turned off, but not effects.
3. Hints can't be turned off.
Would recommend, for the price anyway, except for lack of high score tracking. Pointless without it.
I know this is a very cheap game, but it's just not worth it.
The gameplay is you being told to find some food in a big pile of food - sometimes it's only one piece, other times it's more - while a timer counts down.
If you find the item(-s) before the timer reaches zero, you get to find a new item.
Slowly, the big pile of food, where you have to locate your items, grows in size, while each item in the pile also gets smaller.
There are three difficulty levels and a mode where you see the item you need to find, instead of the written name.
When the timer reaches zero, the game is over and that's it. No high score, no achievements, no nothing. Just start over and do the exact same thing again.
Even Pac Man had more variation in the gameplay, though the food you ate in that game didn't look as inviting as in this one.
