Europe, beginning of the XIX century. Born from the ashes of the Ancient-Regime, the new French Empire is putting the old continent on fire, spreading the seeds of the Revolution.
Napoleon Bonaparte, inflicting several humiliating defeats to his enemies, has shown how ineffective the old tactics have been against him, forcing the other European powers to renovate their approach.

Fun! Wait for sale though
It's a bit more like chess and rock, paper, scissors than a typical wargame. Fun if you have some time to spare and a few extra dollars.
Love the tactics. Have enjoyed playing through the campaign. It took me many times to win Leipzig on Very Hard mode.
Great game!!
FIelds of Glory 2 or other hex based (3D) games with larger maps are much better. This game mechanic is quite unrealistic.
Great Fun game. New-ish to Napoleonics and enjoying the cut and thrust
Based on the Mixed Reviews I almost did not buy this, I but am GLAD I DID!!
To put it Bluntly, I have played almost all Waterloo and other Napoleonic PC games and have been an avid wargamer since the 1980s and a miniature war gamer since the 1990'.
I have played everything Napoleonic from board games to miniatures to PC games.
The best thing about this game is its FUN.
The zones versus hexes is a refreshing change and I love it.
It adds an extra element of strategy and tactics as depending on the terrain in combination
with the different zones and what occupies them makes for a very in depth challenge.
Even on the Easy setting, although I easily won Austerlitz, Jena, Wargram, Aspern Essling, Freidland, I have been stuck on Borodino.
I have tried several times and just cannot take all 3 Objectives.
Fun but challenging.
In addition to zones versus nexes, having unit graphics consisting of soldiers instead of counters
is much more appealing.
The music and sound is great and the maps are accurate.
For example, at Borodino you can easily see the Bagration Fletches, Great Redoubt, etc.
Towns can catch fire and Borodino really gave me a sense of 2 army's pummeling each other into exhaustion.
This game is also more accurate in how units react and rout, etc. than silly Nap. Total War.
Units retreat and also "Cascade Retreat" which is like a domino effect aka the French Rout at Waterloo.
Cavalry charges are exciting but just like the real thing you have to fight the urge to keep on going and hacking away.
Only negative so far for me, is the campaign is just a series of historical battles in chronological order.
But thats FINE! Because it provides such a great and easy to understand history lesson on the battles.
The real acid test for me will be Waterloo, since I know and have fought that battle more than any other.
BUY IT!
A great look at war in a troubled time. Glory without the gore.
the game is broken. ive now met 5 other players all suffering from a game breaking bug. the aretillery is stuck on marching all the time.
this game went from my fav game to my uninstalled list. please look up the artillery clitch before purches.
So sad, this game is childs play with a small map genaric units and absolutly no real campaign. its a bunch of unrelated battles that can be played individualy. dont get this its a wast of your money even on sale. if you want a puzzle game, which this is go get yourself a rubix cube and have more variation. why bother to name the units when they are all exactly the same? i dont even mean there are diffrent types of infintry, or that each nations is the diffrent they all have the same factors except for some generic bonuses you give at the begaining of every battle to any random unit you want to, and there not earned there a set amount. a little more effort and this could have been a good game, but no thanks again for a half /// product that looks like somebody got board designing it half way through. unless you want a puzzle game dressed up in era uniforms closer to paper rock scisors then a real war game. if thats what you want have fun.
Really like this game. Ok, it's a theme I enjoy so I'm gonna be interested from the get go .... but it's fun. It's a challenge and you can try out a range of strategies which feel like you have a sense of controlling the action. It's not a realistic simulation, it's not even a semi-accurate simulation but it is a good game. If you like the theme or the genre - give it a go.
shockingly poor historically and game mechanisms about as realistic as drughts or chequers would be
Really nice to have a good turn based strategy set in the era. I am really enjoying it so far.
Limit of one unit per field coupled with asymetric fields and small maps creates a feeling of advancing along hells highway. You can't withdraw with your cavalry, you can't advance with your infantry, your own units block one another, your flank stuck cause your units can't enter a hill that your own artillery is occupying and your artillery can't withdraw cause your infantry is advancing. Whole gameplay feels mighty awkward because of that.
wow what a disapointment this game has terrible grahicsfor 20 dollars game is not worth it i have a good graghics card game plays like 2d grahics real small maps and units you can hardly tell what side purchased this game and asked for refund after 20 min of play game is horrible
Very buggy. Game will not take commands. Locks on autosaving.
I don't advise buying it.
Nothing is getting fixed.
Could be a good game but not like this.
version 1.5
Update:
The game needs patches and improvements.
A lot of weirdly named units and things like that.
A.I. needs finetuning too.
But the creators basically have no patch in the works anymore...
Regretfully without forthcoming patches and overhauls i'm going to have to change my positive review to a negative one.
------
Temporary review (game yet to be finished):
A fun light Napoleonic Wargame. Ideal to waste away time, tackle in between heavier stuff or simply after a long day's work.
It integrates some fun visuals with the core elements of Napoleonic warfare namely 'combined arms' (infantry - cavalry - artillery) and the interactions. The other unit type are 'Marshals' (basically leadership units)
Overall a good romp for a Napoleonic fan.
However a few negatives:
1) No unit growth throughout the campaign.
2) As of yet I did not encounter a lot of my favourite units like the Old Guard etc.
3) Starts in 1805, so no Italy or the likes.
4) Scenarios maintain some of the feel of the battle but only in an abstract way.
A bit more 'chrome' needs to be added to up the ante for this one. And the campaign needs some more options to make it worth playing more than once.
so far a good game reminds me of the old Talonsoft games enjoyable to play low key not hard to figure out the playing
Its not Scourge of War. If thats a good or a bad thing depends on what you are looking for.
This is more simple and also more elegant. On the one hand almost a bit too casual, but on the other hand it captures the orderly and disciplined warfare of the period because of this.
With only a handful of units and a simple modifier system for combat and movement, it is easy to learn. However, the number of these modifiers and movement principles accumulates, and together they create a depth that is quite interesting. It is challenging and requires some thought.
Sound and visuals are both very crisp and neat.
There seems to be a few bugs, and its too early to comment on the AI.
I will update this review once Ive spent some more time with the game, and hopefully a patch has been pushed.
If you think you would enjoy this kind of game, you probably will. But again, prepare for some bugs and odd behavior.
A ok game with alot of content.
Decent strategy game with low learning curve features in game play. March to Glory has a adequate single player campaign with what seems to be good game replay. It also has multiplayer but im no fan of multiplayer (hehe).
I can see myself playing this regularly! Two thumbs up!
