The steam version censored A LOOOOOTTT. Despite the heavy censorship tho, the story is still very engaging, some of the situations were difficult to stomach and so screwed up, its a harsh read. The story, while good, was too short to properly develop everything it needs too, i finished it in around 4.... and a half hours? but maybe thats because so much has been cut from censorship
A really nice game to start in psychological horror, one of my favorite games to play if it comes to this genre, the only bad thing about the game is that is too short. In 3 hours you can get the 3 finals with not everything at the 100% but if you want to complete the game will be 6 or 7.
A masterpiece
First visual novel I ever played and it was masterpiece 10/10
Story 10/10
Atmosphere 10/10
Characters 10/10
Soundtrack 11/10 really awesome
MUST BUY
A favorite 10/10 horror of mine, my cute eldritch horror can not be this cute!!!! I've read it three times and still love it. the Lovecraft inspired horror was done very well. it's very short much like a Lovecraft story, the characters have little to no progression in their arcs but it's helps with what the story is trying to emulate the writing style and themes and it doesn't try to overstay it's welcome.
if you don't like loli's and gore then this isn't for you, if you can overlook one over the other and enjoy horror then it is worth reading
There are multiple gore censorship options if it's to much for you. there is a H-patch for the lewd scenes but it is not needed if you don't care for it, though they do add to the grossness of the experience
粪作👍吹神作的脑子里只有粪👍作为猎奇ntr爱好者应该挺不错,所以我觉得挺好看的👍
i know its stupid to say this for a japanese vn like this one but i actually didn't expect some pedo shit going on in here. I mean, it looks interesting and all (its the reason i got this game in the first place), but come on...hearing the words "I would like to put it in me. its okay" or some shit from a minor is the last thing we need to hear from the ever so popularised media... Come on guys, do we really need to normalise peadophilia now?
i sound like a facebook mom, i know...but i feel there has to be less of GUYS THIS IS A CLASSIC. THIS NEEDS TO BE PROMOTED BECAUSE THE STORY IS SO GOOD. LETS JUST IGNORE THAT SMALL PART WHEN THE PROTAGONIST FUCKED A CHILD.
is Saya the original Alice?
im going to Saya
ATTENTION:
i played with nsfw patch. dont do it . its not neccessery to plot . you can play without it and assume what "happend"
this game made me repulsive. made me anguish. i never felt like this before in any game or any media i consumed . and i LOVE feel unique emotions. BUT ... at what cost ...
this game is short you can finish it under 4 hour. but its not really a game because only on 2 section of game you can choose a dialogue. there is 6 character on this game and half of it are just there for serving other characters plot.
the cgs and art is good. and nsfw scene just made me felt hollow and disgusted inside . while the arts are great but only saya herself has memorable charecter design.
the music and sounds while is not memorable but its really suitable for this game. it fills you with dread anxious and fear. like a worm crawling in your body. it was the best part of the game for me.
as for the plot itself ... its hard to judge.. its clear as the day it also call as a bloody nsfw game. some people found a deep meaning out of this. while i can understand why people say such a thing but i disagree with it. maybe becuse i felt disgusted as i said before. its not a game a normal person can enjoy. hell if anyone said i "enjoyed this game " i will never consider this person normal. and it comes from a abnormal person(me). but the plot was engaging . i wanted to know what happens next while i was felt disgusted. so its a positive in my opnion.
IN CONCOLUSION:
song of saya is a visual novel game that gives you unique feeling that you have never experinced it before. but all of those feeling are negative except the feeling of engagment. i did not enjoyed the game. infact it made me disgusted. never has a game made me disugsted the way saya did and i thanksful for this unique feeling. but i NEVER recommend this to any of my freind or any normal person. if you can sit all through of this bile experience then do it. you never get such a experience from any other games.
in the end i must say with all bad things. the doctor Ryoku was a hot lady. i love mad girls. now that im writting this review i must say it would be good the doctor had any nsfw cgs. . HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA
ah ... i hate myself
thank you for reading my review hope it helps your decision.
fucked up but very poetic. im aware its probably the author's barely disguised fetish, i suggest reading this with an open mind. its an experience for sure. 6.7/10
TW: SA and ped0 :( (and also spoilers, idgaf)
Went into the game blind (my mistake tbf) and yea... Didn't expect the protag to be this unbearably HORRENDOUS and a ped0.... The premise was interesting but the creators really wanted to be EVEN MORE EDGY than that. It really feels like a bunch of 15yo wrote this. I HATE IT SO MUCH when games are using SA and pdf related things as shock value, that doesn't add ANYTHING to the plot AND are s*xualised. It is shameful, of poor taste, disgusting... It is just horrendous. It's also a big problem with japanese games for some reasons, and even more with VN.
These kinds of "takes" on those sensitive subjects are very dangerous, I'm becoming more and more convinced that they help teenagers get groomed or just be ok with those horrible narratives... Don't buy this game, it's not worth your time nor your mental health.
Incredible sound, music, and world design. It'll always be one of the best tbh
It good. Good story, good characters and good everything. I wish they added more for the game tho.
Good VN but there are better ones out there, theres 3 endings and the whole game is way more about reading than making choices, which i dont think is a bad thing but i think its something good to know. The psychological horror is honestly great, not like ''omg this changed my view of life!!'' its more like you just get weirded out by someones action in the game most of the times.
I dont think its true when people say the R18 DLC is like super important to the lore, i dont think its like needed at all to get the lore, and if youre curious just search it on google instead of getting the DLC.
I read song of saya at a young age, coming back to it many years later I did not realise how grotesque and fucked up it truly was. Gen Urobuchi truly is a genius and this is one of his many masterpieces
I finished this game on Christmas day at 7:40 in the morning ngl, this game has changed the way i see things. it's a really good game-the art is amazing, and the music is pretty good, especially toward the end.
This is a censored version of the game which does harm to the plot. PLEASE find a patch or an uncensored version for your better experience.
Beautiful art and scenery, amazing story and all around a good time.
I didn't know what to expect but i really liked what i got, especially the dark themes. The only part i didn't like is how the story had to stop halfway to deliver a ton of exposition but its not a big deal.
Saya No Uta is one of the few visual novels that truly had me invested from beginning to end. An unforgettable vn that combines psychological horror with a gripping storyline quite well. The sound effects in this game are chilling and added a whole new layer of immersion, giving me goosebumps at some points. The atmosphere, music, and art all come together to create a truly unique experience. If you're a fan of dark narratives, you should def check it out!
The story is undeniably fascinating, weaving themes of love, sacrifice, and the perception of reality. It’s the kind of tale that makes you question your own morals and worldview, offering no easy answers, but rewarding those who engage with it. It’s not just interesting to read – it’s impossible to look away from.
The music and sound design are standout features, perfectly complementing the atmosphere. At times, the soundtrack lulls you into a sense of fragile calm, only to suddenly jolt you with chilling, otherworldly tones that leave you on edge. The audio creates an immersive experience, heightening both the beauty and the terror of Saya’s world.
And then there’s Saya herself. Her character is unforgettable – enigmatic, innocent, and deeply haunting. Her presence elevates the story into something extraordinary. LOVE TO SAYA! She’s the heart of the narrative, and her relationship with the protagonist is one of the most unique and thought-provoking aspects of the game.
Overall, Saya no Uta is a masterpiece of visual storytelling, blending elements of horror and romance in a way few stories dare. It’s a must-read for fans of the genre who are ready to experience something both beautiful and terrifying.
Saya has a fantastic premise and some great moments of horror, but those good moments are only a tiny fraction of the novel. I found the majority of the visual novel to be incredibly underwhelming. Often, it feels like the story happens with no incentive for me to care or be afraid. Sure, I am reading these horrific acts, but they do not mean much to me. More moments were needed to capture Fuminori's mindset and downfall without being shallowly written in comical extremities. The best approach this story could have taken was to make you feel trapped and isolated for a while. After this buildup, the depraved violence would be the payoff. Instead, the novel keeps throwing these scenes to the point that you are completely desensitized. The Lovecraftian elements were also underwhelming. Some moments capture Lovecraftian monster horror well, but again, it is so minuscule. Saya's few good scenes do not make up for a lackluster and inefficient story.
Pretty cool story until it’s actually just disgusting
The only good thing that I got from this game is the knowledge to stay the f away from every person who likes this shןt
This game is awesome, probably the best horror piece of fiction I've ever seen, thank You gen the butcher for this Masterclass.
Graphics: 9/10 (while it's from 2003, the drawnings are gorgeous)
Plot: 9.5/10 (the plot is insane, but one of the 2 main routes is disapointing)
Characters: 9/10 (the characters are really good but I hate fuminori (he's really great tho))
Ost: 10/10 (the song of Saya, I Can Hear it in my Dreams, it won't let me alone)
Overall: 9.4
Not sure how I feel about some of the darker scenes, but the atmosphere is unmatched.
played the whole thing a while ago, decided to play the censored version here on steam.
without a doubt, the censored version is leagues better, cutting out the useless moaning noises and uncomfortable descriptions of intercourse that spanned for what felt like hours in the uncensored version. some quite pointless, overly sexualised shots of characters (most notably Yoh) were still there, but werent at all too detrimental to the whole story. as ambiguous as the 'song of saya'/final ending was, it still felt like the most interesting and right one to end the story on. great visual novel that i would have loved more if i hadn't played the original, purely just because of the eroge category of it, which is less noticeable with the directors cut. would recommend, and definitely worth playing again some day. :)
Edgy. Short. Interesting. The price tag is a bit steep, but I know they worked hard on this. If this goes on sale, yes, but to satisfy a curiosity because of the internet or word of mouth.... Wait. Love you all and Merry Christmas.
While I only got one of the endings, I would absolutely recommend this title. It was a wonderfully unnerving game that made me cringe in the best way!
A Short and "sweet" story about a man and his love to the forbidden.
Explores themes like isolationism, the human condition and multiple perspectives.
While the story is good, there are some problems, one of them is how cliché what happened to certain(s) character(s) in that house, it should've been done differently and we should've been given a perspective on how Fuminori and his friends were before the accident.
I would not say that it is very special game, but it does it's job really well. From the scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 9 out of my impressions and general feeling about the flow and story of the game. Definitely recommend playing it.
me likey (one of the best psycholgical horrors ive ever read. not very long, but incredibly worth it to play.)
This was a trip to say the least overall would i say i enjoyed this VN kinda though i found it to be bland in some places , would i replay this nope this will stay in the corner of my desktop forever more
Some positives for me I really enjoyed the music , also found the best friend and surgeon to be the best characters in this VN,
MC was extremely unlikable for me and with the fast pace his love for saya felt very fake for me felt more like a obsession with a shit load of mind break on top of that,
The nsfw scenes were extremely uncomfortable and not in a horror way but in the yucky area
Now for saya she was very interesting but she lacks something that i currently cant place
but the mc drags her down bad they just don't have any chemistry so the emotions even when bad shit happens to them just aren't there
Really feels like this was the rough draft and not the final product overall just pretty meh for me didn't really feel anything one way or the other (this is with the patch)
with all that said if your into darker VNs with gore , cool music and a semi intriguing plot this would be a good start
classic and all-time favorite. its subject matter makes it extremely difficult to recommend, but if you can stomach it, this is some of the best horror you'll ever read. the sense of atmosphere it creates is unmatched.
this game is such a beautiful work of fiction i teared up at the end, i know the game is widely known for its so called child-like character saya and that the main character is sexual with her, it is an eroge but i find it wrong. as the steam version has cut out all of the sexual scenes i think this is such a beautiful work of fiction, the writing and the characters too, i loved the ending more than anything i love eldrich horror in general but this was also just beautiful, and intense, i fully recommend it 8/10
On paper, this starts out really well, sort of thriller of "holy shit I see flesh vision everywhere i'm bonkers!!" and cool sound effects for flesh speech, and then you get to meet Saya
I should've guessed, considering how this game's uncensored version is banned from Europe, that this would be abysmal dogsh*t but frankly nobody can realistically fathom how bad it really gets
This absurd parody of Parasite Eve (a book with nearly the same themes) is a pale mockery of an actually good work of fiction, this is just the writer's extremely, EXTREMELY poorly disguised fetish, banned in Europe for CP, it feels like you've unironically lost 50% of the game with how they talk about doing it every day for a week and they cut to the next day, the dad killing his family, the suicide and the r*pe stay in this """censored""" version, cause realistically, if you actually boiled this down to what it is without the gruesome stuff, you'd have 30 minutes of reading in what is already 2-3 hours
The wikipedia article for this game does a better job at story telling than this ever will and lets you skip on everything that you shouldn't even remotely think spending a single coin on so go read it if this actually interests you
I'll give credit where credits due, the concept of "how far would you go for love" would have been really cool if it had been anyone BUT Saya and that it didn't have the god awful.. extra gruesome stuff sprinkled on top, this is just nonce heaven "greatest visual novel ever published" bahahaha bro i'm blowing my brains out
Beyond the realm of hilariously bad beyond the first 10 minutes of what it could've been, reaching the level of "the writer should be publically shamed" instead
Crowned "Worst VN I've ever had the misfortune of reading"
It's so joever
i really need to stop taking recommendations from the clock app. specifically from self-proclaimed "neets." because. ohmygod. what. the fuck. was that. what was that!!!
As a fan of horror and this being my first visual novel I gotta say I greatly enjoyed it.
It was disturbing and grotesque. my only problem being that
-there are some distasteful depictions of sensitive topics-
I understand why these scenes were included but it felt like it breached the territory of horror into just disgusting degenerate fan-service. If the characters were drawn more tactfully during their incredibly vulnerable state or just not drawn at all I would love this game. (Granted that might just be an era of the time)
Umm yeah , so our mc here is hooking up with a schizophrenia monster girl and slowly losing his sanity day by day 😉
Can't even say that I enjoy it at all , but story is writed well .
For me Ms. Ryoko is the best character
7.5/10
Quick read with some pretty disturbing stuff, i'd say buy it, read for almost 2 hours, refund it, buy it again, read the next almost 2 hours, and repeat until your done. Took be 6 and a half hours to read but i left my game running and took some breaks you could probably finish it in 6 hours. Worth the read for sure tho.
I just finished all three endings and honestly I'm a bit let down. It wasn't that I didn't get it, it was just so "flat" and simple that I didn't feel a thing, like I barely remember the names of the two main characters and it's not even been a full day since I finished it. It's not about anything sensitive, just something like "so that's how it is, huh".
Maybe I hyped it up too much in my head, so when I finished it I was disappointed.
don't get the +18 patch, enjoy the steam version. It's way better.
one of the best and most disturbing horror vn u can find. art style is gorgeous and has an amazing soundtrack. voice acting is also extremely good. if ur a fan of eldritch / body horror this game is for u!
"But I am worried! We haven't used any contracepton." Is where i stopped
Wow, truly a wholesome love story with an eldritch being!1!1
Well didn't expect that. Never played too many visuel novels, but damn they didn't hold back.
Played the restoration patch btw.
"All it needs.. is to be loved by just one person in the whole desert. All it needs is to be told how pretty dandelions are."
здесь происходит неоднократный секс с маленькой девочкой. определенно лайк
Me at the beginning: "oh I'm a horror fan, this won't shock me at all"
Me later: " :O "
7/10 I was revolted and want to see what the other playthroughs do, but the story was meh and had some holes. I would not recommend this game to a friend, namely because most of my friends would be repulsed shortly into the VN.
Don't let any reviews dissuade you from understanding that this will be too much to handle for a lot of audiences. They have a disclaimer at the beginning, but seriously: if you have any sensitivities or things you cannot experience, you probably should not play this (or heavily screen it/ have a friend screen it for triggers).
Oh and for anyone that stumbles into learning about the "censored" vs "uncensored" versions - don't sweat it, censored is more than enough if you're in it for the horror.
Gen Urobuchi is one of my favorite authors of all time. Known for being the co-writer of Madoka Magica, I knew surely this had to be at least decent - and it is! More than decent, I think.
When the story is played through the lens of Fuminori, a lot of the things he does made me very uncomfortable. Fuminori is a very gross and depraved man, and I do not like him. However, I think that was the point— for you to feel disgusted by him and what he does. Same with Saya. They are not meant to be good people, and they are not meant to be redeemable. And I think that is what I liked so much about it.
Of course, this is why a lot of people are completely turned away by it, and that is okay! To a lot of people it is seen as shock content for the sake of shock content. But I think that the way that Urobuchi and the rest of the staff handled it added to the story in a way. It added to the feeling of shock and disgust and wipes away the last shreds of hope that Fuminori may not be fully gone yet.
The soundtrack is very beautifully composed. It adds a lot to that feeling of uneasiness. Saya no Uta could be put into many genres; horror and romance for example. But I don't think that either of those would be a good descriptor for it. It is something entirely of it's own. It is a dive into the mind of a man who has lost everything.
It was ok, I think it's a little overrated but that might be because this VN is a complete 180 to the one I read right before this.
I think some of the scenes are just for shock value and don't really add anything. I feel really unsatisfied with all the endings. Most VNs can give me extreme anxiety when it comes to choices, but I literally didn't feel anything upon playing, other than disappointment that a certain character dies. I tried so hard to like this game, but I just really didn't enjoy my time playing and felt like I had to finish because I spent money on the game. From what I've read this was written by Gen Urobuchi during a tough time in his life, so the entirety of the game is a vent/cry for help from him. That would be cool if it wasn't so bad though LOL
I completed all the ends in like 6 hours so play the game if you like short horror novels/games but overall, the game is mid and overrated.
I didn't play with the JAST USA patch, I don't know if that took away from my experience at all. I did like one aspect of the game, and that was the characterization of Ryoko. Shes a complex character and was written wonderfully in my opinion.
Just because I didn't like the game doesn't mean the game is bad. This is my opinion simply, don't take my opinion as fact and play the game for yourself. You may love the game.
