It definitely has it's flaws when it comes to the writing but it is still good and pretty much everything else is excellent like the atmosphere and soundtrack.

Would recommend.

Despite the interesting premise and how it was suggested to me ofr how important the game is to the visual novel scene, this VN has such an abysmal writing that i won't even dignify it with a full review, that's how bad it was.

+ Great story, was really interesting
+ Great horror, but it's a VS so the horror is very much in imagining the way it all must feel for the characters
+ A bit over the top gory(flesh walls and stuff kinda make me laugh), and a bit bizarre at first
+ This version has no child rape or pedophilia, unlike the patched/original version, which is why it was changed for Steam probably.
+ Loved the music and ambiance of the game, huge plus for sound effects too
- The pictures/frames I wish were polished more as on the characters, while the characters are great I personally would prefer images with a lot less sketching left in the end result, this was better and worse in didferent images so I think they prob decided to put more effort into certain sprites.

- Patch includes: Rape of a minor(graphically explicit), rape of a lobotomised woman, with minor engaging in the rape with the MC. MC on minor graphically explicit sex scenes)
- As I said the patched is rancid, like I installed it as I figured I should have a good comparison since some people whined so much about it being separated, but I'm gonna be completely honest, the game is narrative wise 150% better without the scenes because it's honestly the story that matters, you already understand that he has abandoned all his morals and he is clearly OK with that despite that it worries him that Saya is clearly a minor. Now this is the part in most Japanese loli where it gets a bit creative right, so technically she is not HUMAN so there will be some arguments that she is not a minor or an adult, but I think we should not pretend or downright ignore the constant reinforcing the narrative drives of Saya, regardless of her other form, is presented as a pre-pubescent girl, and just fyi the MC is in his 20s which makes it even more cringe pedophilia fanservice. You also get to spare yourself of this completely useless rape scene of his previous friend where his loli gf lobotomises the woman to make her into the MCs sex slave. There was no narrative or character development here, except for making you hate the MC and Saya more. The game confirms her physical age in graphic sexual narrative where other characters comments on her body and her look.

The game can no longer be launched and the sound didn't work when I first opened the game. What kind of a remaster is this?

Because they're no mixed I'll tentatively give it a recommend, but It's a solid 6/10 at best. Very good music, the voice acting is pretty well done, and the atmosphere is sublime. The first ten minutes alone got me pumped with how well done everything came together.

But the characters aren't very interesting, the plot is a bit generic outside of the extremely fucked up bits, and all three endings were pretty unsatisfying. It's not a novel I'd ever be inclined to reread nor recommend to anyone outside of a very small, niche group who already knows exactly what they're going to get going in.

The Song of Saya/Saya No Uta is a disturbing game, which also has a pretty despicable protagonist. I recommend this to people who enjoy visual novels and wouldn't mind something a bit uncomfortable. The narrative was good but I wouldn't call it outstanding. I found one of the characters, Koji, to be frustrating or even a little oblivious. My highest praise goes to the music, loved the soundtrack.

I'm not really a fan of horror games, but I do like visual novels. To be fair, this one isn't that scary, though it does have great suspense every now and then. Accompanied by the OST, it gave me shivers. The story is well-paced and well-made the OST were bangers and the endings were heart-breaking yet beautiful.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the price I paid for. Although it was short, it was memorable. 9/10 :)

okay sooo this VN was good, soundtrack is amazing 10/10, endings were good also best one for me was when fuminori decided to go back how it was before, scene where fuminori is waiting for saya to come visit him but she didnt was heartbreaking and amazing, yoh character didnt do anything tbh i didnt like her.

A novel with an utterly beautiful love story, one of the best games in the genre... What I would say, if the main love interest in The Song of Saya wasn't a child.

Really, was it neccessary? To create a game with such a good story, incredibly satisfying and atmospheric music, nice art just to spoil everything with pedophilic desires of the creators? I can look past sexualized rape since I expected it from an eroge horror. But I cannot be content with a child having inappropriate moments with the MC. It isn't meant to be a representation of CSA, Saya enrourages all these scenes and no one suffers from it. When she and the MC lie naked together, take a bath, have sex every day (it's stated in the game), whe she kisses him. Saya doesn't have a mind of a child but looks like one, has a voice of one. The MC points it out several times.

I heard excuses like "It's made to show MC's twisted nature and add to psychological horror" or "Saya isn't human so she isn't a real child". It's still a game that sexualizes a kid. And I don't think that any excuse for it will make it justifiable. Are we deadass calling this a masterpiece?

its a good story!! i dont typically enjoy reading bc of low attention span but this vn had me hooked from start to finish. it's not something i can just recommend to anyone, but if you like darker stories then this one is for you :)

Saya no Uta is a very short read, I'd suggest curling up somewhere and reading it in one shot.
Plotwise it's super solid, reminded me of The Twilight Zone but with more scary. Do note that despite what people say, horrorwise it's not actually that gruesome. There's only a handful of scenes like that, the overall fear comes from the implications of everything. There's one specific allegory used about 75% into the book that really makes you wonder wtf is going on in that world. It's one of those stories that sets up a truly disturbing world but leaves everything to the viewer's imagination. The pacing is very well done, and nothing really drags on longer than absolutely necessary. Also the ending is legitimately amazing, soooo yeah. Would recommend if you're into this kind of thing.
NOTE: This version is only kinda censored. This version only cuts out the super explicit parts, and leaves in the buildup/aftermath section. There are a few CGs that show a character's breasts in full detail despite this, so be warned of that. Unfortunately though these scenes are all integral to the plot despite how uncomfortable they are. There's only four in total, I think, and they're only in the first 40-ish% of the VN. After that fourth one it locks in on the plot. I would still recommend this censored version, because while things do happen they're done with just enough briefness to really let their depravity linger in your head without going over-the-top and detracting from the experience.
8/10 VN. It's a short get-in-get-out story that you WILL NOT forget any time soon after reading, and if you can deal with the nsfw then absolutely go for reading.

As someone notoriously averse to reading, with a low attention span, this VN had me hooked through it's entirety.

There wasn't a single moment in the story where I didn't look forward to reading more and finding out more about the story. I don't know if I can truly call it an objective masterpiece (even though in my heart it is), but I can tell this is the type of story I won't forget for a long time, and I believe that's a beautiful thing when it comes to fiction.

If you're a fan of taboo, rather fucked up and dark stories, I truly recommend this, otherwise, it's probably best to stay away, this game is very unapologetic. Best played with the patch too so you get the full experience. (though it increases the shock factor further, remember it's fiction!)

The OST is also absolutely phenomenal and really augments everything happening within the game, I can see myself listening to it outside the game.

Overall, my enjoyment of this was a 10/10.

It's undeniably a fetish game but I appreciated the honesty with which Urobuchi Gen puts his mind on display for all of us to gawk at. I prefer that kind of no-nonsense approach especially in times like these and when you compare it to similar visual novels that are far less self aware and yet far more pretentious. Soundtrack is also really good. Surprised of all the reviewers talking about the "abominable beauty" in this game, I guess we all have our own little mrgirl Cuties moments every now and then. I still recommend it in the end, make sure to definitely pay for the patch with your own money so you can get the Full Experience as Gen-sama intended it.

An interesting VN, I really liked how fast it got into the meat of things where other VNs have you wait an hour until anything interesting happens. If I were to play it again I'd probably play it without the patch as the H scenes made me more uncomfortable than anything, then again that is the purpose of the game.

Unfortunately, the game has a bug that makes it impossible to hear any sound if bitrate/sampling is higher than 16bit/48Khz. This can be adjusted in Windows sounds settings as long as your hardware supports lower bitrates, which mine did not. Thankfully I had a backup headset but otherwise I would have had to play without sound. This seems unforgivable considering the bug has been reported for the first time as early as 5 years ago. This is not an indie VN I downloaded from a shady Japanese website that requires me to switch my locale to Japanese, this is the "windows 10 remaster" and I expect it to run on modern high-resolution audio hardware.

DO NOT play this game if you were expecting any lovecraftian horror. It tries, but is botched so badly. The game explains way too much. No questions left unanswered.

just know this, there are a total of *2* choices in the game, and 3 endings. thats it.

An incredible and very unique experience at every ending! Writing, visuals and soundtrack are great and help you inmerse yourself just perfectly. Although the game is really short, with only three endings everything about the story ties up very nicely. A must play for anyone who's into psychological horror.

I thoroughly enjoyed most of the game's musical atmosphere, with its free-flowing guitar compositions and an evocative sense of confusion and being lost. The story is excellent overall. While the game is relatively short, I took my time to savor the music and appreciate the exceptionally well-written text. Without a doubt, this game will be remembered for a long time within the visual novel genre. I can confidently call it a classic.

Short and sweet, I can understand why this is a classic VN, as it accomplishes at being an amazing horror.

Beautiful and garish, beautifully garish with blood and love.

Its assets being limited is what makes it even more effective, as there's no real moment of shock value graphicness, and well not much graphicness at all. What you can't see is whats most horrifying of all. So yeah, cool game

10/10 psychological horror game, the only way i can describe this game is that one south park episode where the main characters wrote that disgusting and sickening book that was apparently a masterpiece.

The steam version censored A LOOOOOTTT. Despite the heavy censorship tho, the story is still very engaging, some of the situations were difficult to stomach and so screwed up, its a harsh read. The story, while good, was too short to properly develop everything it needs too, i finished it in around 4.... and a half hours? but maybe thats because so much has been cut from censorship

A really nice game to start in psychological horror, one of my favorite games to play if it comes to this genre, the only bad thing about the game is that is too short. In 3 hours you can get the 3 finals with not everything at the 100% but if you want to complete the game will be 6 or 7.

Best hate-the-protagonist simulator available.

There's good reason this is considered one of the best visual novels, it definitely made me feel a certain way. The art is great, the writing is very good, and the soundtrack is hands down the absolute best part of the whole package.

Be sure to get the 18+ patch on JAST if you want to question your sanity that extra mile.

A favorite 10/10 horror of mine, my cute eldritch horror can not be this cute!!!! I've read it three times and still love it. the Lovecraft inspired horror was done very well. it's very short much like a Lovecraft story, the characters have little to no progression in their arcs but it's helps with what the story is trying to emulate the writing style and themes and it doesn't try to overstay it's welcome.
if you don't like loli's and gore then this isn't for you, if you can overlook one over the other and enjoy horror then it is worth reading
There are multiple gore censorship options if it's to much for you. there is a H-patch for the lewd scenes but it is not needed if you don't care for it, though they do add to the grossness of the experience

this game made me repulsive. made me anguish. i never felt like this before in any game or any media i consumed . and i LOVE feel unique emotions. BUT ... at what cost ...

this game is short you can finish it under 4 hour. but its not really a game because only on 2 section of game you can choose a dialogue. there is 6 character on this game and half of it are just there for serving other characters plot.

the cgs and art is good. and nsfw scene just made me felt hollow and disgusted inside . while the arts are great but only saya herself has memorable charecter design.

the music and sounds while is not memorable but its really suitable for this game. it fills you with dread anxious and fear. like a worm crawling in your body. it was the best part of the game for me.

as for the plot itself ... its hard to judge.. its clear as the day it also call as a bloody nsfw game. some people found a deep meaning out of this. while i can understand why people say such a thing but i disagree with it. maybe becuse i felt disgusted as i said before. its not a game a normal person can enjoy. hell if anyone said i "enjoyed this game " i will never consider this person normal. and it comes from a abnormal person(me). but the plot was engaging . i wanted to know what happens next while i was felt disgusted. so its a positive in my opnion.

IN CONCOLUSION:

song of saya is a visual novel game that gives you unique feeling that you have never experinced it before. but all of those feeling are negative except the feeling of engagment. i did not enjoyed the game. infact it made me disgusted. never has a game made me disugsted the way saya did and i thanksful for this unique feeling. but i NEVER recommend this to any of my freind or any normal person. if you can sit all through of this bile experience then do it. you never get such a experience from any other games.

in the end i must say with all bad things. the doctor Ryoku was a hot lady. i love mad girls. now that im writting this review i must say it would be good the doctor had any nsfw cgs. . HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA

Went into the game blind (my mistake tbf) and yea... Didn't expect the protag to be this unbearably HORRENDOUS and a ped0.... The premise was interesting but the creators really wanted to be EVEN MORE EDGY than that. It really feels like a bunch of 15yo wrote this. I HATE IT SO MUCH when games are using SA and pdf related things as shock value, that doesn't add ANYTHING to the plot AND are s*xualised. It is shameful, of poor taste, disgusting... It is just horrendous. It's also a big problem with japanese games for some reasons, and even more with VN.
These kinds of "takes" on those sensitive subjects are very dangerous, I'm becoming more and more convinced that they help teenagers get groomed or just be ok with those horrible narratives... Don't buy this game, it's not worth your time nor your mental health.

Good VN but there are better ones out there, theres 3 endings and the whole game is way more about reading than making choices, which i dont think is a bad thing but i think its something good to know. The psychological horror is honestly great, not like ''omg this changed my view of life!!'' its more like you just get weirded out by someones action in the game most of the times.

I dont think its true when people say the R18 DLC is like super important to the lore, i dont think its like needed at all to get the lore, and if youre curious just search it on google instead of getting the DLC.

I read song of saya at a young age, coming back to it many years later I did not realise how grotesque and fucked up it truly was. Gen Urobuchi truly is a genius and this is one of his many masterpieces

I finished this game on Christmas day at 7:40 in the morning ngl, this game has changed the way i see things. it's a really good game-the art is amazing, and the music is pretty good, especially toward the end.

This is a censored version of the game which does harm to the plot. PLEASE find a patch or an uncensored version for your better experience.

Beautiful art and scenery, amazing story and all around a good time.

I didn't know what to expect but i really liked what i got, especially the dark themes. The only part i didn't like is how the story had to stop halfway to deliver a ton of exposition but its not a big deal.

Saya No Uta is one of the few visual novels that truly had me invested from beginning to end. An unforgettable vn that combines psychological horror with a gripping storyline quite well. The sound effects in this game are chilling and added a whole new layer of immersion, giving me goosebumps at some points. Saya has a fantastic premise and some great moments of horror, but those good moments are only a tiny fraction of the novel. I found the majority of the visual novel to be incredibly underwhelming. Often, it feels like the story happens with no incentive for me to care or be afraid. Sure, I am reading these horrific acts, but they do not mean much to me. More moments were needed to capture Fuminori's mindset and downfall without being shallowly written in comical extremities. The best approach this story could have taken was to make you feel trapped and isolated for a while. After this buildup, the depraved violence would be the payoff. Instead, the novel keeps throwing these scenes to the point that you are completely desensitized. The Lovecraftian elements were also underwhelming. Some moments capture Lovecraftian monster horror well, but again, it is so minuscule. Saya's few good scenes do not make up for a lackluster and inefficient story.

This game is awesome, probably the best horror piece of fiction I've ever seen, thank You gen the butcher for this Masterclass.

Graphics: 9/10 (while it's from 2003, the drawnings are gorgeous)

Plot: 9.5/10 (the plot is insane, but one of the 2 main routes is disapointing)

Characters: 9/10 (the characters are really good but I hate fuminori (he's really great tho))

Ost: 10/10 (the song of Saya, I Can Hear it in my Dreams, it won't let me alone)

Overall: 9.4
