This shit changed my life 180 degrees, I have never played a visual novel as mysterious, ugly, and shocking like this one.
for the characters I'm giving a 10/10 because they were all writen pretty well
The ost is 8/10 but for the way the game is going, its going to be a 10/10 too because it makes you feel disturbed and odd.
Now, for design-wise its going to be 8/10, and yeah the design is very good but it isn't at the level of some other games that are absolute 10s.
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this game to anybody who is a beginner or has not played visual novels before, this is the perfect VN for beginners and it's only gonna take around 4/6 hours based on the average reading skill.
you finished reading..? PLAY THIS SHIT!
super disturbing, super cool but a bit much at times
Plain and simple, a rather grotesque VN, but one that has an odd beauty to it. Be warned that it goes pretty dark places, and even the AA version has depictions of SA that may be too much for some readers. HOWEVER, the overall message to take away from the story is quite beautiful, and it will stay within my mind for years to come. The score is fantastic in compliment with the CGs, and the backgrounds, while grotesque, are strangely beautiful in a way that makes me reminisce on Junji Ito. I heavily recommend it to anyone who can stomach it's contents, and would like to have their perspectives shifted.
>reach Ogais evil layer, where he created such disgusting creatures and experiments
>symbols that "make you dizzy to even look at"
>star of David
what were Nitroplus trying to say...?
disgusting and heartwrenching. the same bleakness you feel when you wake up in the morning and everything still has the sleek bite of frost across it, as it had the nights before. i think it is about sickness and isolation and empty meaning and wholeness within futility and the choices we have to keep us going outside the incomprehensible emptiness of inertia
A *lot* of VNs suffer from being, in one way or another, drawn out, overambitious and poorly-paced affairs. This one goes in the wonderfully opposite direction, and is just an extremely solid little story that achieves precisely what it sets out to do, without repetitiousness and wasting no time at all to get to the point, with absolutely no reaching for anything it doesn't grasp; it's honestly a breath of fresh air. Big recommend, though beware there's some weirdness with the patch/port here.
yeah Idk what I was thinking playing this game. I saw figures of Saya and thought she has a really cool design.
I saw the "sexual content" tag but I didn't expect SA. It's my first time playing anything like this and yeah nope never again why would u add that.
This game gave me nightmares. Plural. Multiple long, horrific nightmares across the few days I played this game. I don't think I've ever played a visual novel that has been this disturbing, and I mean that both positively and negatively.
The Song of Saya's story is really captivating from the very beginning- the concept of seeing literally everything as a gorey nightmare landscape except for one single person is really interesting, and I enjoy how it explores themes of narcissism and depravity- seeing Fuminori go down this dark path and completely understanding why he does what he does. He's the perfect blameless antagonist- someone doing undeniably evil things and yet basically anyone in his shoes would probably feel its the only way one could live in such an existence without resorting to suicide. The way his relationships with his friends slowly fall apart while they desperate try to help him was tragic and really realistic.
And I really enjoy Saya's characterization, you can tell in many ways she isn't human, and yet her understanding of love is so human that it ends up being her defining trait. I love the way that this story explores the idea of love in reproduction, framing it in this utilitarian way, that its a detriment to reproduction and yet perhaps the only thing that makes us human.
But then of course the game had to be tainted with all the pedo shit.
Like, seriously, why??? Why did Saya need to be built like a little girl??? Why all the pedophilia shit? Did she really need to look like that? She could have looked like anything! If there's some sort of actual artistic reason for it I did not pick up on it at all.
Its just confusing because a lot of the game seems like its meant to depict Fuminori as this horrible depraved monster- and yet there's like 3 scenes that are just "fanservice" or straight up sex scenes that seem to glorify the exact depraved shit the reader is supposed to hate Fuminori for doing.
Like, we're they trying to say something and disturb the reader by showing these depraved moments, similar to something like Lolita? Did they just want to include horny moments? Is it both? Whatever it is, I don't like it. I don't like that it took this incredible beautiful and disturbing story and injected a bunch of Diddy shit into it for seemingly NO reason.
Its just gross. And frankly I don't feel comfortable supporting it. Like, this is clearly one of the best visual novels out there, and its so close to being a masterpiece of cosmic horror- and coming out of it I kind of regret playing it. Its so close to being perfect and I had to watch it lose its soul and be tainted. Fitting, given the subject matter of the game.
tldr: ryoko best girl, and fuminori is a diddy ahh blud
This game literally shallow hal for weird sex monsters who are also children.
This game is absolutely horrible and not worth your time.
The story isn't well written, all of the characters are too bland, and it has frequent rape scenes that are not important to the plot at all. It is very clearly a fetish game by how Saya looks so much younger than the main character, Fuminori, which he acknowledges but still proceeds to have sex with her each night. It was also irritating that the only good characters in this game acted so ignorant, it was hard to feel bad for them when one died because of that reason. The only good thing about this game is when it ends. I genuinely don't understand how people like this kind of stuff. Please do not buy this game, if you already have then you should refund it.
didn't expect the doctor to be an insane baddie
i loved this game sm i'll gatekeep it from my friends
Install the patch to play this game as the developers intended. They had to cut some important scenes in order to comply with Steam policies.
You're taken into the eyes of a character who after an accident has a surgery that affects his vision in an unexpected way. Everything he sees now is twisted into disgusting piles of flesh. Friends that he used to know are now nothing like what he used to know, from the voices to their appearance. His life is a living hell and death would be better than continuing living like that. However, before he decides to take his life, he meets a girl named Saya. She appears normally in his vision, voice and everything. To everyone else with normal vision, she is horrifying and drives most to madness from just the sight of her. This is their tragic love story and if this premise sounds interesting to you, you need to play it.
I went into this game blind and it was an amazing experience all around. From the storytelling, themes, all the way to the general atmosphere. The soundtrack is beautiful and the sound design was spot on. I can't recommend this game enough to Denpa fans.
Abandon humanity, all ye who read this.
The story wasn't particularly stellar, ironically, but I consider it won when I end up thinking about how it made me feel. It goes beyond good and evil characters, things just are, and Sakisaka Fuminori just wants to live a quiet life.
This was an interesting thought experiment on the depths of depravity. Though very clearly not many would be able to stomach it, luckily I'm not concerned by this.
One of the few cases where really careful consideration has to be had before delving in.
Beautiful yet dreadful, Saya no Uta is, simply, a guy simping for a rotting lasagna while everyone else wonders why he’s into a walking pile of roadkill and tries to get in the way of their love.
I wouldn't recommend this game, The Song of Saya is probably one of the most bland horror visual games i have played. The themes are just gore with no depth behind it. its still a decent game tho dont get me wrong 6/10.
holy peak but i wouldn't recommend to the faint of heart, despite the censorship there is still a part of an s/a scene, however you can choose whether or not to further censor/diminish the "grotesque scenes", which i would presume includes this scene in particular. but other than that this game is peak but i think you're weird if u buy the nsfw dlc
Good game but pls patch the issue with the audio
honestly i don't understand the hype that all this vn has on social media like tiktok, reddit...
yes saya has a cute character design, the base story is intriguing (fuminori's disease is really original) and the soundtrack is perfection... but that's literally all. it gets bad really fast, and it's also extremely short. a 5/10, at best... but it's okay, i guess
i would like to erase my memory entirely please thank you <3
i dont think i can in good conscience recommend anyone to play this game qwq
except if youre a fucked up lil freak then go for it <3
this game is good for intense horror lovers, it has the darkest themes ive ever saw and i couldn't even finish the game myself because of the creepy disturbing and horrifying visuals and just overall what happened. i am not a kind of person who enjoys these things but i thought to myself " a horror vs cant be THAT bad right?" I WAS SO WRONG ... it is bad but the story kept me interested. this game involves horrible things, murder and a persons insanity and MOSTLY sexual assault... i cannot stand with themes like these as it makes me uncomfortable, the main story was pretty good aside all of the weird shit happening. if you are sensitive like me do not play it like at all
this game was pretty good, I don't get the hate but it's intended for a mature audience js so yk.
imo its not worth the full price but if its on sale like it is rn just get it and try it out !
If not just watch a youtube video and you basically got the same experience.
gg , bye
Very mixed feelings about this game but i would say give it a try, it does a good job on showing how a situation can change a person. i personally didn't really find it disturbing? It might be just me but if you play it just for the horror i would find a different game, if you play it for the psychological aspect its a pretty good
Very good story, but def not for everybody. If you're familiar with Urobuchi, you should know what you're getting into.
I love the story of this, but it's disturbing and there are a lot of disgusting visuals.
an interesting story, but i wouldn't recommend this game for everyone to play. there are many triggering topics. please use discretion if you want to play!
beautiful atmosphere/soundtrack/visuals
I expected a lot worse in the gore-department. Good game though.
Best love story ever.
Wish i had an eldritch abomination gf.
Still looking around :c
沙耶ちゃんのすぺありぶぺろぺろしたい。。。ぺろぺろぺろぺろ
Iconic eroge of all time. Interesting plot and leaves you thinking long after the game is finished. The ost is fire and the voiced audio from Fuminori's pov was genuinely horrifying and sent shivers up my spine. Seeing Fuminori slowly descend into a terrible human being as time goes on had me pulling hairs, truly a game about perspective. I woulda kms-ed if I was him but I guess world domination is another solution to this problem.
this game is great. truly a masterpiece totally recomended. may not be for everyone though. still one of the greatest experiences i've had
A wholesome story about a guy planning ski-trips with his classmates.
Jokes aside, as everyone else already mentioned, this game can be quite disturbing and gory at times, but under all that depravity there's something beautiful to be found. Also if you like good music get this. Recommended for fans of Fate/Zero or Urobuchis works in general.
Grotesque, horrific, appalling, yet also a hint of beautiful love in this cosmic madness. Definitely has content can be seen as highly problematic, but in a world where art has to conform to certain established moral ideas and rules, this novel doesn't pull any punches in showing the horrifc lengths the human psyche can go to when put under pressure. So in that sense, it can be seen as a breath of fresh air for those whose minds are not totally averse to the mentally disturbing things humans lock away, only to spring forth in times of high anguish. Highly disturbing, yet also beautiful. And what is beauty, but the perception of the holder?
Good story, I love how it doesn't follow any ethnic rules, just delivers a creepy and ''disturbing'' atmosphere that can have good impact on you.
Disturbing game, yet the ost makes some parts of it totally worth it
I got f#cking traumatized reading this story… if you are thinking about reading it good luck, thats all I can say because this is som extra Jeffrey Dahmer type shit…. But I would recommend it:D
This Visual Novel has such an interesting concept,it does body horror nicely (although not seen much) and the story kept me engaged throughout the entire thing except for some moments that had me highly uncomfortable,i really did enjoy this.but i will say there is a small trigger warning: there is SA,so just be warned if that will make you uncomfortable because it should made me feel that way. Other than that, this game is solid for being originally released in 2003.
I recommend this game for its length, concept and tone. It is relatively short for a visual novel and that is one of its greatest strengths, it does not waste time with any fluff and you are immediately thrust into the story. I cannot talk really at all about the story as I think it is best experienced blind. I did play the uncensored patch version of the game, which for some may cross lines you would be uncomfortable with and while such scenes enhance your negative feelings towards certain characters, I do not believe it is absolutely necessary to experience them as you will feel plenty negative towards them already.
It definitely has it's flaws when it comes to the writing but it is still good and pretty much everything else is excellent like the atmosphere and soundtrack.
Would recommend.
Ow the edge.
Despite the interesting premise and how it was suggested to me ofr how important the game is to the visual novel scene, this VN has such an abysmal writing that i won't even dignify it with a full review, that's how bad it was.
--100% recommend the STEAM VERSION only
+ Great story, was really interesting
+ Great horror, but it's a VS so the horror is very much in imagining the way it all must feel for the characters
+ A bit over the top gory(flesh walls and stuff kinda make me laugh), and a bit bizarre at first
+ This version has no child rape or pedophilia, unlike the patched/original version, which is why it was changed for Steam probably.
+ Loved the music and ambiance of the game, huge plus for sound effects too
- The pictures/frames I wish were polished more as on the characters, while the characters are great I personally would prefer images with a lot less sketching left in the end result, this was better and worse in didferent images so I think they prob decided to put more effort into certain sprites.
Please do not read more from here on out as this is gross.¨
- Patch includes: Rape of a minor(graphically explicit), rape of a lobotomised woman, with minor engaging in the rape with the MC. MC on minor graphically explicit sex scenes)
- As I said the patched is rancid, like I installed it as I figured I should have a good comparison since some people whined so much about it being separated, but I'm gonna be completely honest, the game is narrative wise 150% better without the scenes because it's honestly the story that matters, you already understand that he has abandoned all his morals and he is clearly OK with that despite that it worries him that Saya is clearly a minor. Now this is the part in most Japanese loli where it gets a bit creative right, so technically she is not HUMAN so there will be some arguments that she is not a minor or an adult, but I think we should not pretend or downright ignore the constant reinforcing the narrative drives of Saya, regardless of her other form, is presented as a pre-pubescent girl, and just fyi the MC is in his 20s which makes it even more cringe pedophilia fanservice. You also get to spare yourself of this completely useless rape scene of his previous friend where his loli gf lobotomises the woman to make her into the MCs sex slave. There was no narrative or character development here, except for making you hate the MC and Saya more. The game confirms her physical age in graphic sexual narrative where other characters comments on her body and her look.
The game can no longer be launched and the sound didn't work when I first opened the game. What kind of a remaster is this?
Because they're no mixed I'll tentatively give it a recommend, but It's a solid 6/10 at best. Very good music, the voice acting is pretty well done, and the atmosphere is sublime. The first ten minutes alone got me pumped with how well done everything came together.
But the characters aren't very interesting, the plot is a bit generic outside of the extremely fucked up bits, and all three endings were pretty unsatisfying. It's not a novel I'd ever be inclined to reread nor recommend to anyone outside of a very small, niche group who already knows exactly what they're going to get going in.
The Song of Saya/Saya No Uta is a disturbing game, which also has a pretty despicable protagonist. I recommend this to people who enjoy visual novels and wouldn't mind something a bit uncomfortable. The narrative was good but I wouldn't call it outstanding. I found one of the characters, Koji, to be frustrating or even a little oblivious. My highest praise goes to the music, loved the soundtrack.
overall 7/10 because the story kind of falls off at some points. but soundtrack alone makes this a 100 out of 10
I'm not really a fan of horror games, but I do like visual novels. To be fair, this one isn't that scary, though it does have great suspense every now and then. Accompanied by the OST, it gave me shivers. The story is well-paced and well-made the OST were bangers and the endings were heart-breaking yet beautiful.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the price I paid for. Although it was short, it was memorable. 9/10 :)
Such a beautifully grotesque visual novel. With a lot of commentary on what it means to have free will.
Are we a product of our soul or merely a product of environment destiny.
okay sooo this VN was good, soundtrack is amazing 10/10, endings were good also best one for me was when fuminori decided to go back how it was before, scene where fuminori is waiting for saya to come visit him but she didnt was heartbreaking and amazing, yoh character didnt do anything tbh i didnt like her.
overall VN was good i would give it 7/10.
good game
soundtrack amazing
everyone schizo
