Would not recommend, when you go the medium level, the game deliberately make your enemies have better card all the time, even if you try very hard to gain advantage, one simple tile would make you lose all the previous winnings
this has happened throughout my 19 hr of game play
You can buy this game if you don't mind losing, The AI feels quite rigged, it's so ridiculous. I don't understand the designers mindset. The resolution of the game is bad as well, can't even recognize my own flowers. Bought this game in order to practice, but it's only a waste of time. It's so sad.
very buggy program and unable to lock other levels. would not recommend at all. going to see how i can get my money back.
It's a good way to play mahjong against AI players, in my experience.
Pro: Best Mahjong game on steam so far - Con: The "you lose" sound is disgusting to many questions while navigating from one section to another. Cannot delete old saved scenarios. No explanation of the finer details - like what your flowers may or may not be worth, what it means to be a particular direction i.e., West. After the begin of turn dice roll how is the til pickup to a hand calculated. If I am ever going to play this game in real life. I am going to have to know this stuff. Still I enjoy it and opt out of the sound because the sounds are boring and distracting. The far end of the table for tiles played are hard to identify sometimes.
One of the rare real Mahjong games in steam.
The game would be better if no restriction in free play mode.
Fairly compact game of actual traditional Mahjong. Not the solitaire tile matching game so popular on every platform. I'm learning to play 'real' mahjong (IRL tiles, dice, etc.) and this game really helps. It doesn't have a literal tutorial so you need to get the basic rules from online or a book, but playing it helps you understand how to build hands and the get used to the flow of the game.
I'm not a huge fan of the money earning unlock system in this game. It smacks of the same sort of mechanics in moblie games. Not microtransactions but a repetitive play grind. If the the rewards were a bit more generous or the requirements for getting to new cities in the Championship mode were a little less huge...
Presentation is cutesy but fine. Game loads and plays quickly. I have not played multiplayer.
Two things to notice: First, the names given to the triplets and sequences are different from almost any source I've seen online or in a book. I'm familiar with these as chow, pung, kong, and mahjong. They are not called that in this game. Might be the difference in mandarin versus cantonese. Two the character tiles do not have numbers on them. Non-asian players may need to keep a pic of which characters correspond to which numbers until memorized, i.e. I play on a Mac in windowed mode and have a desktop sticky note showing a jpeg of numbered character tiles right next to the game.
Serviceable, attractive but basic mahjong game.
This game is broken, at least under the Taiwanese ruleset - it sometimes doesn't notice that a hand is winning.
1/5 stars. Let me explained why I think this game is bad and does not deserve your money:
1) This game have 3 "mode". One of them is "Free play". You would think that free play mean the player can set the rule. LOL NOPE! You are restricted to maximum 4 points in the beginning. You want to set 3 points to max? You need to "unlock" these by playing "Champion” and “PVP” mode. Which brings to the next point:
2) “Champion” mode is totally lame. Is like a single player game where you go around and beat like 9 bosses. But the AI for these “bosses” seem to be the same. So what makes a boss “difficult” ? They set victory condition rather than out right win the most money. So for example, one of the boss, you “win” by winning 3 rounds of self draw. If you cant do that in 30 minutes, you “loss”. What makes it worst is that for each bosses, you also need to earn “key” to challenge them. The first boss and the last 2 boss have no keys. To earn keys, you have to play against previous boss over and over to earn keys. Keys are given randomly when you win a round. But usually only if you score low points round. Funny thing about this lame system, I won a round with “13 aunties” 15 points. This bankrupted one of the AI and the match is over. You still have to come back again if you want to beat that same boss, because I didn’t “win by condition”. Lame and a waste of time.
3) PVP mode. Is not pvp. You don’t play against other players online. You just play against AI and win experience instead of money. You can than earn “coins” which is then used to unlock things like unlocking free mode condition or different colour tiles. Oh did I mention that you need to earn “gold” to challenge AI for experience? LOL what kind of lame design is this?
4) English translation is a nightmare. Is not even on par with an elementary ESL student.
5) There no rules or tutorials, so you have to google if you don’t know how to play
6) Bad resolution. Which usually doesn’t matter too much for indie games, but it does here. This is because you cant read the Enemy flower tiles due to bad resolution.
7) Bad game speed. Too much animation for a card game. I don’t need to see a tile get discarded. I would like to set the animation off so that I can only focus on the game itself.
8) Tick tack toe in champion mode is unskippable. Another lame design.
9) NO real PVP, no online mode. Lame
Conclusion:
There are many game developers these days for traditional mah-jong game. I do not feel this one lived up to my expectation. It feel like a really annoying RPG game, with very little reward. Free play mode should be unlocked at start.
Not worth it IMO.
A challenging real Mahjong game with walls. The bots you play against are good.

Hours of fun for friends and family.
