Each of the Jiuquan possess supernatural powers, and each are a fountain of energy and life for the universe. In the War of the Three Tribes, the Beasts were defeated by the coalition of Humans and Gods. The tribe of the Beasts retreated to the Demon World and since then Gods, Demons and Men have lived in isolation. After the war, Shen Nong and the Jiuquan disappeared from the world, and as time flowed on… the legend of the Jiuquan was lost.
Yue Jinzhao and Yue Qi arrive in the West Side, searching for something they had lost -- what they will find instead is an ancient secret uncovered. Elsewhere, a gargantuan slumbering beast awakens in the sea -- soaring to the skies, and bewildered at the voice in its head.
In the martial world, factions struggle for control: True Martial Alliance, Risen Soul Saints, Hengdao Society and the demonic Piscis… who are the true masterminds behind the traps within traps, the devious plans and evil designs? Destinies will unfold and become undone, as sacrifices are made… in the celebration of life.
- [Dual Combat System]:features a fusion of real-time and turn-based dual combat modes, with both modes able to be freely selected by players.
- [Combat Formations]:adds more variety to enemy battles. In normal combat, players can control one character, and use formations to execute skills to break through enemy defense or deal damage. Players can go commands for such things as a focused attack, priority to heal, etc. There are also special modes such as aerial fights and ranged shooting.
- [Difficulty ]:Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties are available for selection. Hard difficulty will be available after the first playthrough. Players can also lower the difficulty during gameplay -- once the difficulty is lowered, it can not be changed. (Players who lower their difficulty can not challenge the Hard final boss in their first playthrough.)
- [Charged Attack]:features a new special attack system. Using MP accumulated during battle, players can use either “Technique,”“Harmony,”or “Slash” Charged Attacks and turn the tide of battle!
- [Surprise Attack]:players can surpised attack enemies during combat encounters. Players will deal surprise attack damage based on the difference between player and enemy levels. If the party leader is of a much higher level than the average level of the enemies, a surprise attacks can even be an instant victory, without going into battle.
- [Scenario Battles]:During scenario Boss fights, combat can occur directly after the cutscene ends, without switching modes or going into an encounter screen. This is a new storytelling mechanic introduced for the first time in the series.
- [Exploration Jumps]:Characters can freely explore the map, seeking out secret spots and paths. Maps and stages are larger and have more vertical space than ever before, with mysterious items waiting to be found. These items not only have special effects, but also increase player reputation, which can be used to exchange costumes and titles.
- [Weapon Transmogrify]:players can mold the appearance of their weapons to their desire. Players will be able to change the look of their weapon to another that they already have, while the basic stats of the weapon remain unaffected. As the weapons are shown in real-time in the game, players dictate not only the fashion, but also how their battles and skills look during combat.
- [Reputation]:awarded by completing quests from NPCs, items can be exchaged with different factions if the reputation requirements are met. Faction-specific items can be exchanged with especially high reputation.
- [Meridian System]:Each character in the game has 3 souls, with their own different attributes. Players can customize the characters by choosing different attributes in those souls. Each node selected has different effects, and special hidden effects may be found if the right nodes are selected.
- [Event Mini-games]:various mini-games are scattered throughout the game. Puzzles, traps and games can be played using character-specific stage skills. With the free exploration that the game world offers, players can discover hidden events, and possible even find secret items.
- [Stage Skills]:Each of the six main characters have their own “stage skills” that can be used. Players will need to utilize these skills to overcome certain puzzle and traps. Yue Jinzhao’s “Flight of Sword” allows players to fly over obstacles to reach places impossible to travel to otherwise.

The interpersonal relationships between companions are less ideal than in previous games, which is a good thing. But the gameplay is very bad and there is no strategy. I don't recommend playing it. I only recommend watching the video to catch up on the plot.
I would absolutely love to recommend this game, as it has many things of genuine value including a very interesting and compelling story.
However, as of this evening I have been hardlocked on my 25 hour playthrough in a late game area.
I don't think I will ever finish this game because of that, not for a good number of years. My experience has been heavily soured. I already have Sword and Fairy 7 and Gujian 3, which are actually not riddled with jank and bugs.
It feels quite dated, but it still kept my attention long enough to enjoy it.
I'm recommending this to people who are extremely non-picky when it comes to a games quality.
And no everyone, Yue Qi's design doesn't look like Hestia.
She's missing the most important part of Hestia's character, the chest.
4/5 the story is good, but there is a huge bug in steam version:
Dragon-dodge part - it keeps repeating the QTE scene, and you can't even progress the game, until you restart the game couples of time, which is really fucked-up.
The map system is truly a disaster, especially in World Core.
Did some things good. Did some things bad. Overall I have to kind of agree with the reviewer who said it is a broken mess that should be avoided at all costs... but if you are a fan of the series, chinese lore/mythology or language, go for it. After doing some research, I realized the nice thing about the series is they are all set in the same world at different time frames.
Good:
Chinese mythology, very different than western mythology.
Tried to do something similar to breath of fire, where different leaders could do different things in the field. Unfortunately, they waited until you were 75% of the way thru the game to tell you what all of them even do. Also the mechanist puzzles were far too simple even the optional one.
DO click the little flashing dots in the top left, they give dialogue scenes that give more background. Of course, it would be nice if said scenes were consistent whether they took 1 click to progress to the next line of dialogue, or 15. Totally random from what I can tell.
Multiple battle songs.
Starts off really good.
Probably my favorite thing about the game is how the characters work things out. They realize when things don't add up, when they are being lied to, and how they work out the possible truths. Ignoring the omniscient view a player has, they did a GREAT job of certain characters only knowing what they would know at a particular time. This is something that many many games fail miserably at.
Bad:
Switched to "just finish it" mode fairly early on. On the road to the nomad village, you use Jinzhoa to fly over a swarm of monsters. But you can't go back using the same method, so I started missing observation points. This, in combination with the lack of stone mushrooms, made me stop trying to be a completionist and just try to beat the game, not wanting to go too far out of the way for side quests anymore. While I recognize these things aren't missable and I could go back, I felt railroaded as it was a long time before I COULD go back.
Maps do not match up with where you're walking. A GOOD thing about the map is there are places not marked out that you can walk, feels like old NES games where you could walk thru the wall into the black area to find hidden treasure. Except that EVERYWHERE in this game is a black area you can walk thru to find nothing. Nothing at all. But then other places the minimap is super zoomed in or something, doesn't match up with where the walls are, etc. Seems like an awful big oversight... did anyone playtest this game before release??
Translation is a crap job. Not talking about cultural differences, I'm talking about things that 1) I could tell were mistranslated despite my limited mandarin, and 2) completely the wrong line like one character saying "so and so was added to the party." Obviously wrong stuff. Also, NO translation offered at all for the anime cut scenes or writing. Just... have a native speaker proofread your translation guys. I would imagine there are people who would volunteer even. Maybe that's the problem, they got a volunteer translator...?
Ok, so let me get this straight... we're going to send the old blind guy across the crumbling bridge to pull a lever to keep the temple from coming down on our heads? AND he's gonna take his time about it. Anyone else could have got there and back before he was halfway across... but nobody else wants to die today, nevermind that we're all about to die. K, sure why not, DRAMA!
The one lady doesn't actually like anyone in the party, yet she's happy to let them bum rides off her everywhere and even let's them "borrow her car"??? Now the game is just starting not to make any sense.
So the reason we did all this is because a giant fish felt bad about killing some people when it turned into a bird, so it decided to kill EVEN MORE PEOPLE to save those it had killed, and to prevent that, we had to kill slightly fewer people, but still more than we were going to save in the first place. Right.
I love a good story guys, but seriously ease up on the cutscenes. More anime, less dialogue scenes. Oh and actually translate the anime scenes.
It's actually kind of funny how you get a quest to collect 10 stone mushrooms like your 3rd quest, then don't find the monster that drops stone mushrooms until you're level 50.
The battle system... it's a lot like FF13 in several ways, but less refined. Wasn't a fan of FF13's system. I like that it can be round based, which is important to be able to PAUSE things when you have kids.
Cutscenes are not pausable, and not skipable past the first 10 seconds.
Controller didn't work, curser would not sticky to the options. Had to use mouse to click, mouse pointer would jump randomly to the commands during battle sometimes when I was trying to click a different mode.
Combat far too easy... you can seriously play the entire game with "Focus on Regeneration" and "Auto-battle" and just be there for the cut scenes. If you wanted to make a visual novel where all you have to do is click, you should just have done that.
The "Meridian" system gives the illusion that you have some control over how your character develops, but once you reach the end game (if not sooner), that illusion is entirely dispelled, nothing you did there led to any different possible result. It's a bit disappointing really. Basically every lvl 55 character on is going to have the same exact stats in every playthrough. Should have expanded on it.
OMG stop messing with my party composition. Just let me equip everyone. It's so annoying when I'm out shopping, and I know I'm getting these people back in my party, but I can't equip them because I've only got 1 person in the party! Maybe it breaks immersion, but it's a quality of life thing.
Oddly enough, I found the Luo and the demon guy to be the most relatable/believable characters in the game. I get the impression the demon in particular is supposed to be relatively unrelatable, being immortal and viewing the world/passage of time differently than humans/mortals, but his stances on things I feel like are well explained. Xiu and Shifang just annoy me, only use Xiu in party for her exceptional healing capabilities.
It's not a terrible RPG. Overall, I don't want to strongly recommend it, unless you just like chinese language games. I'm not sure this is the best version, or maybe just didn't port well to PC.
The time has come for me to check out the third big Chinese rpg franchise, Chinese Paladin, which is originally called The Legend of Sword and Fairy, and it seems the developers also started to prefer this name. The newest one got released last year, but I decided to go with the cheaper option, even though this game has some negative reputation, with some considering it the worst in the franchise. Nonetheless I decided to go with it, and I am glad I did.
It did take some to get used to, because there are some weird design decisions. First, even though movement is done via WASD, in order to control the camera, you have to hold down a mouse button, which means basically all the time when you’re moving to somewhere. Movement is also very slow, and there’s no sprint, which makes walking around the areas take a lot of time. We also have the ability to jump, but it’s very janky and devoid of any physics resembling reality. Needless to say, there are some platforming sections in the game, though I have to admit, I enjoyed finding certain optional collectibles hidden on rooftops and high places.
The combat resembles JRPGs. The battles are separate from the normal gameplay – when you run into an enemy, the game puts your characters and the enemies in an arena, and there you use various abilities and items during the fight. The system isn’t turn based though, instead everyone individually are on cooldown, and otherwise the battle happens in real time. It was confusing at first, and it didn’t help that the game doesn’t have a good tutorial system. You get a bunch of help screens (that you can’t even access during combat) that explains the basics, and that’s it. It takes trial and error to figure things out which makes the early game quite difficult. I started on Easy, and still got wiped a few times at the beginning. Later, when I got the hang of it I would’ve tried ramping up the difficulty, but sadly, you can’t change it during a playthrough.
The other major part of the game are cutscenes, of which there are a lot. I am not bothered by this, and seeing how the other Chinese games I played were similar in this regard, I pretty much expect it at this point. Same with the game being mostly linear. There are multiple areas, and you can fast travel between them, but the only reason to do so is to do sidequests. I didn’t see this, and the many cutscenes as a problem, because I think the story and writing are the main strengths of the game.
The world is mostly Wuxia (low fantasy) in style, with most of the main characters being martial artists, and martial art sects being an important part of the story, but there are many Xianxia (high fantasy) elements with nonhuman civilizations, demons, powerful spells, and a final threat that I can only describe as ’mythological in scale’. Cultivation is a concept that also comes up here, and referenced many time in the story. The idea is that characters build up their Qi (vital energy part of any living thing) with various meditative or mystical techniques to become more powerful. It’s not just humans who can do this, for example, demons can gain intelligence with cultivation, or the ability to take up human form.
The story begins with a seemingly accidental meeting between some of the protagonists. They team up to track down a cult that reportedly kidnaps people. It seems straightforward enough, but as we progress with the story, and meet up with the other characters, it becomes apparent that things are much more complicated. There are six main characters, and they are all interesting and well written, with great dynamic between them. They all have their own problems, goals, secrets, join the team for their own reasons, and get plenty of character development by the time we reach the end of this complex, emotional and epic story. The side characters are also memorable, interesting and help breathe life into the world.
The English text was allright, with the exception of the intro, which was a hilarious disaster. Some typos and missing lines here and there, and sometimes the subtitles disappeared too fast, but I had no problem following the story. We do have a journal, which helped too. The game has a few animated cutscenes for important moments in the story. These didn’t have subtitles, but they are mostly action scenes, so it wasn’t an issue.
Graphically the game basically looks like a late PS2 game. I don’t really care about fidelity if the style is good, and it is fine here. The locations look good and have nice atmosphere despite the low poly count. The dawn and dusk lighting looked particularly pretty. The character models are also decent and the costumes are nice. The only thing that’s really weak are the animations. They are fine during combat, but the dialogue animations are very rigid, minimal and repeat all the time. The facial animations are quite limited too, and in the case of random NPCs, are actually non-existent. What makes the talking scenes good despite this, is the voice acting, which is outstanding. The voice actors breathe life into the characters and basically hard carry the cutscenes.
Speaking of audio, the music is also excellent, full of catchy or emotional ambient pieces. I also appreciate that you can listen to any song from the main menu. I encountered a few bugs during the playthrough, like flashing textures and falling through the floor, but luckily only rarely. In the latter case, the game mercifully warps you back to the level.
Even though the game has its fair share of technological and design issues, it makes up for it with the fantastic story, great characters and writing. It was the kind of story that occupied my mind even when I wasn’t playing the game, and for days after finishing it. I can’t easily recommend this game because of its issues, but for me it was quite the experience.

Have you guys ever played older video games and just laugh and enjoy the weirdness of it? There were plenty of cons, but the six main characters, as well as minor characters, and story overpowered all of that. I just finished the game and it's definitely going to stay with me for a long time. The main characters were thrown between three groups of individuals and got caught up in a huge mess. It was hard to tell who would end up as the ultimate enemy.
The biggest warning I want to give to anyone, who is interested in this game, is that some poems were NOT translated, because it's like an ancient kind of poem and words. It's not easy to translate it all at the same time, so I guess the translators decided to leave them out, which is quite unfortunate. But I was able to look up sources to translate them and I'm happy in the end. XD
Well I've played this game 3 times at all 3 difficulty levels, all before the steam version was released. Bought this for keepsake and to play at leisure. I love the characters and storyline despite what others say. I like that the characters don't gell all at first and then slowly come together, it makes it more real. Also, finally the hero(es) has flaws, not all are super likable which should be the case. The storyline is complex but its great for a change to the usual chinese paladin storylines (I've played every series since DOS). Battle system is still sort of turn-based and you can't switch the character to control midway but its still an improvement from the old turn based one. I do wish there is an option to skip the minigames though, like the dragon one is damn difficult at the highest level. S&F 7 has that so its great for repeat plays where you don't want to keep solving the same puzzles so it should be an option. This is one of my favourite in the series, I like it more than the popular S&F 4 actually.
finally decided to give this game a try since it was in my library for a long time and Chinese Paladin 7 came out recently.
Well, it's as bad as the reviews say. So far I have not gotten far enough into the story to comment on it, but I really wanted to drop the game 0.3 hrs in actually. Decided to get slightly more familiarized with the game before commenting
The bad:
- UI/UX: Whoever designed the tutorial/onboarding system should be fired. I have not seen such a poorly designed tutorial system since... I don't know when, because that's how long ago it has been. Don't even know if I've actually played a game with a tutorial (or lack thereof) that is this bad.
Considering this is a franchise with such a long history, meaning this company should be very experienced in designing games, there really is no excuse for the info explosion tutorials at the start (and lack of reminders for the point system when you first level -- maybe I missed it but it took me until level 5 to realize it existed). By 2015 no RPG game company should be making the mistakes this game made in UX/UI decisions, so it's not even a "this game didn't age well" problem.
- Movement: Movement is a pain. Characters move very slowly and the map is big, and they have no way to sprint through the map. Camera is clunky as heck, and should have an option to be locked/auto adjusting. Overall just very unenjoyable.
- Battle system: Battles are extremely unenjoyable. I never liked the FF13 ATB system (which is why I never finished the game), and the system in this game is far worse. Too much elementals going on with each character instead of a fixed specialization, too much clicking, AI is too dumb in selecting attacks vs enemy weaknesses, the UI sucks... overall it's just too much and too messy. I ended up just grinding to a level where I can set AI auto-attack for the entire battle and occasionally adjust the command to heals if needed. Just not fun at all and way too time consuming. Even actual autobattlers have more interesting battle system since they take less time per battle.
- Vapid environmental design: Map is big but as mentioned, movement/camera is such a hassle and unpleasant that exploration feels like a chore. I think it would have been less annoying for me if I could use a controller, but this game was designed so poorly (too complex) that I gave up on trying to use steam controller settings.
The ok:
- compared to Chinese Paladin 5 & the prequel, background music is less irritating. It's not great, but it's not bad either.
- voice acting is fine for most people
The good:
[*]
EDIT 7 hrs later: I have not reached point to really understand the plot, but I decided anyway I cannot agree with others who claim the plot is good because the dialogues are just too cringe. The plot scenes are super slow in pacing, and both romantic pairings are SUPER CRINGE. I don't think I can continue playing long enough to be honest, some of the dialogues are just too cringe to sit through.
Overall, I knew this installment was a disappointment, but I did not know the extent of how bad it was.
Years ago I loaded up this game, went in, and found the game to be completely unplayable because of the way that the movement and camera work. If, for example, you press the up arrow to go forward, you will go forward, but if you change the camera angle, pressing up no longer makes you go forward. Character movement controls appear to be set based on map position rather than the player's camera and I cannot stress just how much this one detail makes the game an absolute nightmare to navigate.
I just loaded the game up again after a few years to see if I would change my mind: nope, still the same BS with absolutely no way to change things as far as I can tell. Won't be playing this again. It's a pity because I never got to experience anything about the story, but these quality of life details matter and adapting to a system like this is simply not something that I have the time or energy to do, especially when there are so many good games with player-focused controls out there.
This series is my all-time favorite games when I was a teenager, and I've played and finished every single one of them aside from 6.
I bought 6 when it was first released in 2015 on another client on my old laptop, but it was too laggy to play so I stopped playing.
Just a few days ago I found out that Stream has this game and I immediately bought it and played.
I just finished the game so I think I should write a positive review to support my all-time favorite game series.
First of all, I saw someone said in their review that you cannot play this game in Chinese language, and that's completely FALSE.
My whole play through was entirely in Chinese and it went flawless.
Secondly, I really like some of the characters' development.
Characters' personality changes are not abrupt and make sense, at least to me for the most part.
For example, Qi changes from relying heavily on Jinzhao to being able to make her own decision, Mingxu changes from disliking everyone to becoming friends with them.
I'm personally really happy to see these changes throughout the storyline.
Thirdly, I'm really happy to see that characters can finally jump!!
I believe that this is the first game in this series that your characters can jump, and I love those jumping puzzles.
Last but not the least, music and a lot of the loading screen art are beautiful and amazing.
I think that's like the No.1 reason why I love this series so much.
The music and art are so relatable to me and obviously there's also the nostalgia factor to me.
Overall, I do think it's worth my time and effort to get and play this game, and I do recommend to anyone who's interested in this series but not sure about this specific one.
I'm looking forward to play the next one in this series that is supposed to be released within this year!
Chinese Paladin is a great RPG series with a strong focus on storytelling. The game is honestly more like a visual novel than a RPG. If you are looking for a traditional Western RPG experience, like Skyrim, this is not the game for you. The graphics is outdated (think PS2), level design is sloppy, gameplay is repeatative, battle mechanic is horrible. If you shorten the game to a single level, you would have thought this came out of a Global Game Jam 48 hours hackathon.
But that's okay. Fans of Chinese Paladin knows that you are not here for the game, but for the story. You "walk through" the level to experience ancient Chinese mythological world to continue watching the next cutscene. It's like watching a TV series, but you get to experience some of it, having control to check out some of the environment. In fact, Chinese Paladin 1 and Chinese Paladin 3 had both been adopt to TV series, that's how good the story is.
Steam by default launch the game in English mode, and honestly, it don't feel right. Even with the translation, I have no clue what they are referring to. But after switching it to Chinese, wow, it is deep. You better have a fundamental understanding of Chinese mythology and the "wuxia" universe else you would be completely lost. But if you are a big fan of Jinyong's novel / TV series, then you will be a big fan and very appreciative that Chinese developer actually put in an effort to create this (as oppose to the thouhsands of money making MMORPG clones out there that add no artistic value to the industry).
I'm not sure I have much else to say that has not already been said, but if you want to read the same thing again, I'm happy to oblige.
Starting with the cons: The character movement is very stiff, which can make traversing jumps/ getting secrets difficult. It can get glitchy, which was funny sometimes, and incredibly frustrating at others. These issues made me question at the beginning if I should have bought the game (I enjoyed it a lot more as I went on). The combat is difficult to get down at first, mostly, I think, due to the tutorial being not much more than a written explanation of every feature all at once, that you only see right at the beginning. After getting it down it was pretty simple and repetitive, though I found myself controlling my healer a lot at the beginning, before my characters were beefed up enough that it didn't matter if she healed a bit late. There was also a lot less combat, and even less walking and exploring than there were cut-scenes, which was both a con and a pro, since, though I enjoy good gameplay, I mostly play games for the story and music anyway.
That brings me to the biggest pro. The game has a complex and moving story. It moves rather slowly at times, and takes a lot of turns. Some people might be put off by the slow pace of the story, or the amount of subplots, but I found it rather refreshing. This was one of the things I appreciated about the original Legend of Sword and Fairy; which flowed on for a while, and for the majority of the game seemed more about the lives and hopes of the characters themselves than the dark plot being revealed through the journey. The characters of Sword and Fairy 6 were complex as well, and the "bad guy" of the story is hard to pinpoint, and even then they are not exactly a "Dark Lord" stereotype. I also enjoyed a lot of the music (though you may want to adjust the music and sound effect settings to get the balance you want; I found the battle effects to be overpowering at first). There are some more epic, battley sounding pieces, but I particularly enjoyed the games selection of slower, sadder, more mystical and brooding pieces. Like I said in the cons section, the game is more about the story than the gameplay. There are noticeable more cut-scenes than battles and walking. If you are looking for a game that features unlimited exploration or refined gameplay then this might not suit your taste. But if you're looking for a good story with some challenge and gameplay to tie things together or break up the story then this game is well worth the 20USD. Admittedly the game held extra appeal for me, since I'm learning Mandarin, and trying to engage in Chinese culture, but I don't think that bias clouded this review too much. ;)
OK I will give a recommendation for this game.
Good music and amazing story if you have enough patience to go.
However you may feel hard to finish mini-game or some requests due to poor game optimization(although publishers made their best). This maybe understandable by those who get accustomed to CPFSs for its well-known difficultity but clearly not all(FF13 outperforms this).
Wish to see improved English translation(they can do better).
I give 7/10 for this game.Wish to see new product from softstar in the future.
I picked this game up on a whim (and the price) and was completely overwhelmed by the experience I got. I wasn't familiar at all with the Chinese Paladin: Sword and Fairy series before this, but now I'm hoping that the publishers release the other games in the series in English as well.
Overall the game is similar in format to many JRPGs, with the twist of being well rooted in a Chinese Heroic Fantasy / "Wuxia" setting. The systems in the game are adequate, and the combat took a little bit of getting used to, but it was servicable.
The graphics feel a little dated, and the animations repetitive in the many, many, many cutscenes in the game, but none of this really detracted from my enjoyment of the game.
What truly won me over was the music (the game has one of the best soundtracks I've had the pleasure to discover) and the storyline. Translation hiccups aside, the story was well written, and each of the game's 6 main characters were given enough time (and space) to discover themselves, undergo change and learn from their adventures.
There's plenty to enjoy in the game, and those who are tired of the usual fantasy tropes will find a very different story waiting for them here.
Given the sheer amount of enjoyment I've had, and at the price it was going for, I strongly recommend the game to people who are looking for something new for their RPG fix.
A sloppy, technically-challenged game that is ultimately redeemed by its quality story and the sheer uniqueness of being one of a very small number of English-translated Chinese RPGs. (Note that this is a preliminary review. I have spent six hours with Sword and Fairy 6 so far. I'll update the review to give my final thoughts when I finish it, or earlier if I hit major issues that are worth mentioning.)
Sword and Fairy 6 is a fairly conventional RPG, mechanically. It follows a typical town, exploration/dungeon, repeat structure. One thing I find interesting is the ability to freely jump. This makes town navigation a lot more interesting than most RPGs thanks to the ability to jump onto roofs and run pretty much anywhere. There are lookout points in difficult-to-reach locations scattered throughout each area that even reward that sort of experimentation. On the flip side, the freedom you have to move anywhere also means it's very easy to hit the edge of an area or even fall through the void at the bottom (which conveniently just resets you to nearby solid ground).
Combat involves controlling a single character while the rest do their own thing, which can be influenced with tactical options on the left and by the skills selected. Each character has two sets of skills, each generally useful for a different situation. For example, one character has one skillset that focuses on DPS and one that focuses on buffs. It feels fairly sloppy to me since you don't really have fine control over everything your characters do. The best tactic is seems to be to manually control the character whose abilities are the most important for that particular situation (like healing or drawing aggro) and hope that everyone else behaves competently. There are also bonuses for defeating all of the enemies within a specified amount of time. I am unsure whether it's simply impossible early in the game or if there's some aspect to the combat that I do not understand, but not once have I managed to get the bonus.
The story is interesting. It starts off with some convenient meetings between characters who are all working towards a fairly simple goal, but it quickly becomes apparent that there's much more going on. Everyone is plagued with their own problems, doubts, and secrets, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. I'm being fairly vague to avoid spoilers, but I do find it neat how some twists are immediately obvious yet others are carefully laid-out yet never telegraphed. The voice acting seems great, not that I can understand much of it.
The localization is mediocre. The introductory video is by far the worst of it - I'm pretty sure it was machine-translated. But the in-game dialogue, while definitely wooden and sloppy (incorrect tenses, odd sentence construction, stray markup tags) is understandable.
The tutorials fare worse by some explaining some aspects but never really divulging why they matter, leaving you to flounder until you realize things through trial and error. The boss of the first dungeon is definitely a wake-up call that demonstrates why provoke, an ability simply mentioned in passing in the tutorial, is a key tool. And lots of things are never explained at all. For instance, NPCs sometimes respond differently (or even not at all) to different characters. If you've clicked on one who has the talk icon but they turned and didn't say anything, it's because they will only respond to a different character. I still do not understand the way the quest board in each town works. Sometimes quests that I cannot take appear on it, yet other quests never appear. It's weird and, again, never explained.
Another problem is the performance. Sword and Fairy 6 simply does not run very well, and looks nowhere near as good as its requirements would suggest. I have a GTX 1080 and the game stutters regularly. Not constantly, but it hitches every minute or two. The art style is fairly nice but areas look quite blocky and are often monochromatic. Animations are extremely stiff and repetitive - I hope you like seeing Yue Jinzhao do a facepalm, because he's going to be doing it a lot and in the exact same way every time.
Ultimately, despite the technical issues and general feeling of sloppiness that pervades many aspects of the game, I am enjoying my time with it and do recommend it. Sword and Fairy 6 is far from the best RPG you can play on PC, but it's still a fascinating journey through a fairly foreign (to Western eyes) world.
Beautiful music, Good graphic, Nice story, Awesome character, and a Special gameplay. Price is too cheap for this game. Need more Chinese RPG game like that on steam, I will buy all.
70k rupiah is too cheap for it's content. Nice story, dialogue, it's like watching movie/theater. Also nice music, 3d, 2d movies, nice combat. some warning: boss will trash you at normal difficulty, requires grinding(glorification of hard work?)
The bad/improve able:
-no controller support even though game design is very console ish
-audio inconsistencies, rough transitions, poor balancing between music, voice, sfx, highly uneven voice loudness
-some bugs(stuck on trees etc had to load game)
-some missing translations & typos, but still bearable
-stiff movement/jump animation, directional walking problem
Dev, contact me if you need my audio service. I hope you update this game and keep making better wuxia RPG for us, thank you!
Not a fan, I feel like developers are trying to combine too many things into one game, and it falls short at the end. The gameplay is no longer click and go like the previous series, you utilize AWSD to move around, yet you have to constantly change the view of the camera with the right mouse button to avoid running into walls.
The combat system is very messy on the eye, a lot of things are happening at the same time, and you have to quickly select a skill to use on the target while the NPCs are attacking you continously.
The menu is a mess too, and the tutorial pages is too messy to understand. For the loots inside houses, you can't even tell if you can loot the item or not because there's no special indications like a glow to indicate what you can and cannot loot. You pretty much have to go into all the rooms, and try clicking on everything. Meanwhile, because the camera view is a mess, and you have to akwardly jump around and running into furnitures inside these small buildings, it's really a pain in the ass to even go inside the buildings.
The short animation in between scenes are very long, and you cannot speed it up. The slow dialogues is also the same for "...." team chat. Every once in awhile you can click on "...." and your teammates will have a conversation, and there's absolutely no way to speed it up, so it takes over a minutes to read one line. It's horrible. I also don't like how the animations are, there are no expressions on the characters, their mouth moves ever so slightly to indicate they are indeed talking/whispering, but that's it. It's uncomfortable to watch them talk, like you can hear the emotions from the voice actors, but the characters are absolutely emotionless. Seriously. I got really motion sick after trying it out for 20 minutes. The camera moves way too much, and it's not fun.
I don't recommend this game.
Good:
1. Story. Despite some rough translations, the plot overall is easy to understand and interesting to follow along.
2. Music. BGM in this game is AMAZING. Probably one of the best out there. Good BGM makes gameplay experience so much more enjoyable.
3. Price. Only 12 USD, you cant complain much with this price tag. This game is not meant to be compared to triple A games.
Bad:
1. Graphics and Optimization. Seriously, this game has so much potential of becoming a beautiful game, but they failed. Even with a decently good PC, sometimes I struggled to get decent frame rates.
2. Translation. I would admit I laughed a few times to some really dumb translation mistakes. I mean, how hard could it be?
Good
+Cheap Price
+Good And Long Story
+A way to learn and polish my chinese
+English Sub
Bad
-Unity Engine Game
-Final Fantasy 13 gameplay
-No way to switch languange to chinese
-Not As Good As Previous work (Chinese Paladin 5 & 5 presequel)
-bad joke, the game have an invisible wall when you nearly clearing the game.(bug)
Neutral
=30 Fps (i expect nothing less from Unity engine)
=No Controller Support (every chinese paladin game are built for pc player)
=Cutscene and sub are too fast to follow (if you are not native chinese then you will struggle a lot)
=Game is built for chinese audience in mind (if you are not into chinese fantasy you will hate it)
=there is a dual version in mianland china but we get the first version only.
Overall
do not buy this, the game prevent you from completing the game since there is an invicible wall. EXAMPLE BELOW.Be caution when buying this. i have almost complete the game but instead stuck here.(edited 20-11-17)
