ГЕЙМПЛЕЙ
Ash of Gods — это история трех разных героев, столкнувшихся с древней напастью, считавшейся не более, чем мифом. Капитан Торн Бренин, охранник Ло Фенг, писец Хоппер Роули и многие другие еще не знают, что жнецы вернулись и намереваются утопить мир в крови, чтобы пробудить спящих богов.
Сюжет игры нелинеен и постоянно меняется в зависимости от выбора игрока, иногда приводя к смерти персонажей. Но даже смерть героя не станет концом игры. Напротив, повествование продолжается без героя, но учитывает его решения и последствия смерти в будущих событиях.
Боевая система в Ash of Gods — смесь традиционных пошаговых стратегий и геймплея коллекционных карточных игр. В начале ваша тактика будет зависеть от умений и классов персонажей, но по мере прохождения вы будете открывать и собирать карты, имеющие мощные заклинания, иногда способные полностью изменить ход боя.

Very, very good game, alot of txt, but you get to know the character and the world with it.
This game has bugs.
Ok, first, the obvious one, this is a Banner Saga (BS) knockoff. BUT, BS is a GREAT game, I love it, if it would be a decent knockoff, that would be strange, but still great. It is not.
Art, straight out from BS, great, beautiful. But character design ... similar, yet I miss colours. Animations, beautifull, yet rare and everything lacks the colour palet from BS. Dialogues are reasonable, but everytime someone else says something, they grunt, and it gets annoying REALLY quickly. Skills are less unique and therefore somewhat boring ... everything except backgrounds feels how BS could fail, but it didn't. Like how you can cross half a map and never get to trade, even when you clearly lack currency that keeps you alive.
But it would still be an ok game if not for bugs. Besides normal bugs, like once only available travel choice did nothing besides repetedly draining my morale, so I had to reload and got different event, or how inventory item assigment is kind of broken ...
traveling costs special currency that keeps you alive. Lose it and you will soon die. I tried to get trough hard part of the game many times, many ways, but everyone always died. Because game counted wrong. Longer your travel, more currency. But game might on longer routes stop you in the middle of the travel for an event, and forget that you already paid for the whole path, asking again for another half. This will drain your currency that keeps you alive really fast and there are not many options how to regain it, random events and no merchants like in BS, so ... I give up.
This is clearly a bug that is preventing me from playing the game the way it was intended to be played, it is not even bad, just buggy, unplayable.
Прошел с удовольствием. Игра лучше чем ожидал. Графика на 5, музыка на 5, сюжет на 5, сам геймплей на 4. Надеюсь в продолжении он будет более продуман.
The game starts well, teases a good story, but they failed to tie up all the plot threads at the end. Conclusion was distinctly unsatisfying. Characters are developed, conflicts established, then get utterly ignored in the final chapters. Does not live up to the legacy of Banner Saga. Not even close.
It very slow paced and boring
The story may be good. But combat system is totally retarded at this moment (the banner says they have new combat system, never seen old one, no idea). You start a 5vs5 fight, each character makes a move, 1 character per team, all's good. You kill 4 of those enemies, but enemy still makes a move after your character move with the same single char they have left, effectively making it having 5 moves in single turn.
edit: will try again later when the new combat version becomes available for me
A very good storytelling game with a gameplay quite similar to the one of the Banner Saga (which you should definitely try if you haven't yet). This one is harder though, more punishing (not in choices, but in gameplay), and has a very interesting aesthetic and story that will make you come back to its world and story even years after you've done it ; that's what it's done to me at least. If you're hesitating, don't, don't pass it up and give it a try.
The game did not save my progress after the first battle once you have access to the global map. I saw the saving icon. I have only one save (since playing on hard mode)
Although I'd probably recommend you get this game on sale, the team that have picked it up have done a great job making much more enjoyable of an experience, with a completely overhauled combat system. If you liked Banner Saga, think of this game as Banner Saga's little brother. It's rough around the edges, and the translation is clearly rough as well, but its been improved significantly. If it means anything, I played this game once, and quit almost immediately, but more recently I played and went through the entire game. 0 bugs, and a great experience overall. I only hope that the new team that have put so much effort into making this game better get the chance to make a true sequel, which I'm sure will be even better.
Had this in my game library for a long time (years) mainly because I had read how the weird turn-order favoured squads with as few characters as possible. So 1 strong character, does better than a squad of 6 average ones. Which I really didn't like the sound of, so I left the game sitting untouched. Then I heard about the "new" v2 revised combat system, which sounded much better, so I installed and gave it a go. I nearly gave up after 30 minutes as the controls are very un-intuitive. But I gave it another go and got the hang of it. Then there is a stage where Lo Pheng goes through a tunnel and the fight the other side I just found impossible. I don't think its been very well optimised for the new combat mechanics. I tried a few times, but got nowhere, then realised that the game is not actually that much "fun" to play and I wondered why I was bothering. Disjointed campaign, meaningless text choices. Its a shame because the art style, etc is really nice, but once you hit a road block there is nowhere to go, so that was the end for me. Obviously takes its cue from the Banner Saga, and that is the better alternative.
Fascinating narrative and world, cool gameplay, developer is still supporting the game and pushing updates.
I enjoyed this game very much, despite it problems. Characters are interesting and their story is well told, world is new and interesting and I liked rotoscoping animation.
Difficulty is all over the place, which is probably my biggest issue with this game. On higher difficulty level battles very from extremely easy to literally impossible (at least that is my experience, maybe I just suck at the game). I have seen there was a balance update so I'll probably give it another go and see if that changed.
Overall game is very immersive and has some replay value. It is an interesting idea that was (mostly) properly developed and I was happy to support developers and had a good time with this game.
Great game that feels a lot like Banner Sage. Not as punishing along the way, but is very story rich. If you aren't paying attention to every bit of dialogue you might miss out on the best ending. Combat is fun and gets more satisfying the further you get. It isn't difficult but dialogue choices can be if you aren't paying attention.
One such example is when 1 single choice killed off so many characters in the story, purely caused by a choice 8 hours ago. But despite that I still felt i got a somewhat satisfying ending and enjoyed myself throughout.
So I'm 10 hours in and if you enjoy a good judgment day story where things only get darker this game wont disappoint, the combats pretty straight forward but what you're really buying this game for is the amazing story and sound track, shit does NOT disappoint. I promise
So, after the combat changes, this went from cock and ball torture, to an actual enjoyable experience !
Like, this game is now a truly underrated gem, and i'm dying for more lore !

Look, I got this a while ago and bounced right off of it. When I saw that it was majorly updated, I checked it out again. The update is a huge improvement to the actual combat and gameplay. I've had fun playing through the fights. The art and animations are great.
HOWEVER, I'm 50 years old. I have been a gamer for a very long time. This has to be the most poorly written game I have played. Sometimes it makes sense. Most often it does not. Interacting with NPCs is completely bewildering. You have dialogue options, you pick one, and then it seems like you are talking about something else entirely. Feels really bad when you lose reputation with one of your companions when you have absolutely no idea why. I started clicking through all the dialogue without bothering to read it, and then questioned why I kept playing at all.
Sorry to say this since I do like the game but just play Banner Saga. The combat here is just as good as Banner Saga for a period, but I'm playing on the standard mode and it just becomes increasingly easy. Also, the cutscenes and dialogues with your characters in Banner Saga were a highlight, in this you will just be skipping through most of the dialogue because the dialogue is usually just confusing and pointless. I mean confusing literally, as this game seems to be translated from another language into English very poorly in some places, to the point you will say seemingly innocuous things to your party members and they will lose loyalty to you because they are insulted. There is a lot of word salad that means nothing, and a lot of references to in game lore that seems like total meaningless filler that adds no color to the world. Also the framing of the story through multiple characters moving through different parts of the world with different missions is a fine one which each has its own challenges and interesting characters, but in this every leg of the story except the Thorn leg will be so easy that it will just feel boring in combat and outside of combat as I mentioned before, the dialogue will either be nonsense or boring so there is no real character development. At first I thought the main character was just a jerk, which was cool, but as the rest of the game closed down around me, I realized it was just poor translation. If you have played Banner Saga and are desperate for another one, this game is for you. If you have not, you owe it to yourself to play Banner Saga first because it's probably cheaper and definitely superior.
I never rested, never was close to running out of any resources, had ~30k gold I couldn't even use at the end of the game. Itemization is nearly pointless, every item is +1 attack or +2 energy, amounts of these resources that do not matter at all. In the early game there are some items that really pair well with certain characters that help you get over the initial difficulty hump, but given how little deviation there is in the game (a lot of paths, but roughly the same amounts of progression) the difficulty and itemization could have been better tuned.
I beat the whole game and the only fight I ever had to retry was in the beginning of the game, I would recommend anyone looking for a challenge explore the hardest difficulty as the base difficulty will make roughly the last half of the game feel like filler. One fight auto-injures every member of your fighting team and I beat the rest of the game with them injured anyway. I didn't even use magic at the end to challenge myself and it was still pointless. Also, you can tell not a ton of thought went into the character kits as every character's final tier of perks is just energy and health upgrades.
This game doesn't have any challenging battles (that I fought in, there are a bunch of different branches to the story), nor does the translation and general quality of the writing make it a compelling story. I would say there are some elements of the game that show promise, but they were all lifted from Banner Saga, so no points for that.
TLDR; not challenging, hard to understand the plot, just play banner saga.
I got suckered in by the cool art and the period the game is set in, but otherwise, not really an enjoyable experience.
With the new changes, the tutorial doesn't work and no achievements.
I'd wait until an update.
Just came here to say there is some seriously, SERIOUSLY good writing in this gem. There is a Ton of dialogue and story background to get through before you get to the combat, but the story is soooo damn good so far. If you appreciate well written, gripping storylines and fantastic lore - check this one out. I actually decided to play AOG: Redemption prior to AOG: The Way because I wanted to be introduced to the world, lore, characters and mechanics before playing the later game that focuses more on tactical combat and card collecting. Made the right choice because now I need to know what happens next!! 😅
must play if you liked banner saga. way better depth and storytelling. needs more sequels.
The comparisons to the Banner Saga are definitely justified and as someone who loved the Banner Saga I can confidently say I really liked this game as well. The world ending premise and the lore in AOG is in my opinion even better than the Banner Saga. However, AOG is definitely Janky. The Banner Saga is much more polished, has better combat and while i do prefer the world ending premise in AOG I still think the story in the Banner Saga is better. The combat is very average in AOG and the game has its fair share of bugs. Nothing too drastic but enough to get annoyed about. Personally, I don't think the translation is as bad as people make it out to be. It could be better but I rarely noticed it. I have seen some complaints saying that choices don't matter and I could NOT disagree more. I've had two very different playthroughs and the difference in the story was not only a lot, it occurred relatively early in the story all because I got into a fight and had to escape town.
Ash of Gods is a janky Banner Saga clone that is still able to have its own identity. It feels like a spiritual successor (even if it's technically not) to the Banner Saga and I think it is worth your time.
Ash of Gods: Redemption is a turn-based RPG that combines tactical combat and CCG elements.
Storyline is constantly evolving in response to players choices. Soundtrack, visual style and gameplay is really good.
I can recommended this game for fans of this genre.
For a game to get a second life is rare. For a game that gets a second life that has a great amount of excellent work put into it is unbelievable! Thanks to the current team for making the game extremely enjoyable to play and worth every penny.
Love the world building in this game. Few games can suck me in with their setting and story, but Ash of Gods did it for me. Recommended.
What a HUGE improvement. The major update has turned this into such a good tactical combat game. I went from 5 hours played with multiple restarts and frustration to nearly 15 hours played nonstop. It was hard to stop playing long enough to type this review. Really nice job devs.
Personally, I strongly dislike the game's design: it is way too dependent on random events and random decisions being guessed correctly to reliably complete it. As in, without using a third party guide to the many decision paths, you will inevitably die before the end and need to restart from the beginning; this is not due to skill or logic but simply choosing the wrong path at one of the many crossroads. It is a shame because the writing and the game play engine for battles is very good, similar to highly rated The Banner Saga.
Fun game with good story!
Game is a lot of fun now, the changes they made really improved it in many ways. Its great they took the tme and effort to do this, worth supporting for that imo.

Boring gameplay mechanics, fighting mechanics are terrible, choices don't seem to matter that much, the huge map does not really invite you to explore it. Very few enemy classes. Items seem a bit useless. It lacks the depth of other similar games like The Banner Saga for example.
For 5-6 euros it's ok. But i feel like that is as much as i would pay for a game like this.
A bit disappointed really...
