Описание

Computer Tycoon is a grand strategy and business management hybrid about Computer Evolution and starting your own company in the 70s. Lead the research race until 2034, create the best hardware and operating system, take care of your infrastructure handle your marketing, lead your team of experts, find video game gems to promote them on your platforms, conquer the global market and become literally immortal!

HERE IS THE ROADMAP OF THE GAME!

DISCORD

Computer Tycoon is different from other building/tycoon games because it has a "grand strategy game" aspect. You will control your "computer empire" by viewing a world map and managing resources. You won't build a park or railways, and you won't arrange furniture in offices, instead of these you will analyze the market and find ways to be profitable, reinvest in research, and push out your opponents from the business.

Unlike other games, here you will see your opponents' products and their pricing, which will compete with yours on a simulated market. While Computer Tycoon is not as deep as GearCity it is definitely more complex than most of the modern Tycoon games today. This means that the game has a steeper learning curve, but on the Beginner difficulty level (especially by turning off opponents) you can have a Sandbox-like experience as well.

Start your adventure in the 70s as a small business somewhere in the world. Learn more about hardware and software inventions that were the first steps to our current modern world, and get a taste of what is waiting for us in the future. Find the classic video games and help a new culture to be born.

In Computer Tycoon the decisions you make during development really matter. Take advantage of the technology, upgrade and design combinations! Does your product need more computing capacity or should you focus more on features, low price, or prestige? Maybe change to portable computers or develop more easy-to-use Operating Systems? These decisions will have a major impact on the success of your company.

Smartly expand your corporation into multiple countries, and build more offices, factories, laboratories, and other required facilities. Poor countries have cheaper labor, but richer countries will give you more educated engineers.

Having the best product isn't enough. Finding the right partner and managers is as important as a good product. Balance your budget well between development, production, marketing, and expansion.

You can win the game by becoming a monopoly or reaching the technological singularity if you are fast enough - but living through 60 years of computer history is let alone a victory!

very fun and complex strategy game. worth the money and would be a good investment if you are interested in computer science and business! but it is very hard to start up and not be in debt immediately so if you ever get a positive income save for future purposes

Dev seems to be pretty open in regards to how the development is progressing and this is the main reason why I chose to buy the game. It does seem to be right up my alley as I enjoy this type of games and I'm awaiting the full release.

For a game made by a single person this is extremely impressive, in scope and complexity.
At first it can be a bit daunting (it can be pretty difficult at times), but as soon as you get used to everything it has an addicting gameplay-loop.
I think it deserves much more recognition than it has at the moment.
Well done, good sir.

While I have historically enjoyed this game, that enjoyment has come very lucky rounds where I haven't gone bankrupt in the first couple years of the game. Its fun when you dominate the market and get to build new features, exploring the different ideas for processors and computer components, but it absolutely sucks in the early game. Even if you breakthrough the 70's, there's always a chance you make one computer that simply doesn't make the cut, and if that happens then god help your company. Loans, at least in my experience, are a pointless exercise that almost taunt you if you find yourself in a significant pickle. You're over running your budget and are in the red by -$500,000 every month or so? The max you can get as a loan is $30,000,000, so good luck.

Is that realistic? Sure, plenty of computer businesses have failed in that time. Is it fun? No.

This game has a great concept and is quite unique but I can't help but feel that there is a lot of missed opportunity here.

I know that scope creep can kill small titles but I think the scope would benefit from being expanded here.
Some features that felt like they should have been in the game:
-Being able to release multiple models in the same category. You can do it but it will bankrupt you. There is no reason a company can't create a low, medium and high end PC but in this game it will tank your company.
-Being able to choose your start point, why can't I start my company in 1992?
-I think having multiple categories for companies would make more sense. As it stands, every company is creating every component and software for their computers. Even Apple only started doing that recently in real life. Generally there are chip companies that create CPU/GPU, OEMs that create the rest of the components and package everything together and software companies that make the OS. I think maybe the game should allow you to have the option to focus on just one category if you want or all three.
-The AI would be more interesting if you could choose from several personalities. For example at the start of the game you could choose a focus or strategy for them so you know what to expect. It would be interesting to have a company that focuses on high end only, etc.

Overall the game does something unique and it is well detailed. It feels like a passion project and I love it for that. But I also think that if the developer hires some more people and expands the scope for the sequel, it will be a much better game overall.

Actually a great idea for a game. It takes quite long to understand the game in the first place. Once you're done with the tutorial the game is more or less just repetitive. The design is also not homogenic, meaning the various dialogs are not matched by design and look and feel. Its a pity, cause this game could be fun. There are also tons of options missing in the game to make it more interesting, like stock market options etc. Try for yourself.

curious how the game develops. Positive review due to early access version.

Ok I am playing the discordbranch right now:
++ I love that you can now assign points to the ceo at the start of the game.
- I find it a bit annoying that when the game is paused and then I "press A to set 1LP and close" or click the OK button. The game automatically starts playing again.

More feedback later...

It's later now :)

Ok, I have played a session on the historical map, difficulty level engineer, believing this has replaced the "normal" difficulty level. I have reached the singularity in the year 1991. Wich was unexpected since the start of everything was felt very slow.
I mostly played with one factory site that was completely leveled up in the end. The whole game I played with one Logistic building that was completely leveled up in the end. Also 6 completely leveled up research centres. During the whole game I never got any other managers, Just Doc Emmet Brown (Back to the Future) and I gave the ceo 70 in logistics and the other stats I dont remember cause I only used the ceo for logistics.

I barely read any of the game update notifications, I thought I will notice them when I notice them. So I approached it like I have been playing it for some time now. wick is the strategy of:"rushing personal computers without falling behind too much on the other stuff".

The changes that have been made are very noticeable.
++ First of all. some of the AI competitors are leaps and bounds ahead when you start the game. I Find this very enjoyable because now you have a goal to work to. In the past you could just rush your research. And once you're ahead of the competition, they were never able to catch-up and you have pretty much beaten the game. This is still the case but now you really have to fight for it. At least this is how I have experienced it.

++ Logistics is now a lot more realistic when it comes to implementing a distribution network in a country. It take some amount of time for each logisticpoint to take effect. To put it simply. You can not any longer switch, increase and decrease the amount of logisticpoints assigned to a country on the fly. This means that in the beginning it really takes a while before you are serving a lot of countries. This means that you no longer have to rush the increase of production and buy a lot of sites in the beginning. I was able to play a relative large period in the beginning with just one factory, due to the slow buildup of demand. This made it possible for me to increase research and start the catch-up game.

++ I also played a bit with the ceo negotiating stuff. I thought I could have some influence and see if it would be significant if I gifted the worse competitor some of my old technology but way better then their current technology. I worked, the company started growing and the competition between the other companies increased.

+ The PP slider now gives dynamic feedback and is readable from the upper right corner. So it's more easy and pleasant to compare PP with the demand and set the right amount.

+ It's fun to see the AI taking risks or maybe it's just dumb AI not knowing what to research. But to see the competitors trying to stay relevant by maxing out ♥♥♥♥ and designing computers with loudnessfactor 20/20 is hilarious :D

+/(-) The parts list when designing hardware has changed. But it feels incomplete, in some cases obsolete parts are presented instead of new parts, wich then can be found in the complete list. And it feels it auto-excluded stuff in some cases. Maybe the game deemed them obsolete but did not gave any alternative option so some lists felt emptier compared with the old version of the game. But it clearly needs more work and the Dev is clearly working on it. It just needs more time so I dont mind that it is not working 100% yet.

- Why do a lot of competitors just come and ask me for ♥♥♥♥, who do they think they are. It feels weird that they think they can extort me or something. I just kept refusing it time after time. Somewhere around the year 1988 they started to sabotage my company, but I just sued them and some went to jail. I was already market leader for many years by that time so I had no concern about money. Anyway it would be nice that if they didn't start like this. Maybe other less well doing companies can ask you for cooperating to be the "fan favourite underdog fighting against the big giants" And the better doing companies could show of more that they don't fear you by giving you some ancient tech if you decide not to start working with other companies. You know, bribing me instead of asking for millions of money at the start of your game. It comes across as weak and not having any confidence when they ask for my help. That is just how it feels to me, not intimidating at all.

-- Research is still broken and overpowered, once ahead the competition is never gonna catch-up again. I don't know why but they are unable to reallocate resources to start being competitive again. At least that is how it feels to me. ***I did play on the normal difficulty. So maybe I have to start a harder playthrough and will notice some difference?***

This game is fantastic, I am not sure but I think this is the most detailed micromanaging computer design tycoon game there is. And I think that it is not easy to develop this whole thing. All the options and history of computertech that you experience when playing through the game is really nice and feels complete.

GAME IDEA: I would like to play like Intel, Nvidia, Amd, Ati, Corsair or any other partsector specific company. I tried it in the past. but I always have to wait until I have reached the PC tech level so I can start a Challenge run with selling only GPU's for example. It, would be nice to be able to start with the parts option.

I gotta go now I will continue this later... I hope this was helpful, I have never wrote a review before.

The game initially presents a steep learning curve that might frustrate newcomers. The first few bankruptcies are a rite of passage, but once you grasp the mechanics, the game reveals its depth and charm. The difficulty curve is well-designed, offering a range of challenges for both newcomers and experienced players. The easiest setting provides a relaxed experience, while higher difficulties demand careful planning and strategic decision-making.

The content in Computer Tycoon is vast and impressive. There are countless technologies to research, components to develop, and markets to conquer. Upgrading your company and expanding into new areas keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting.

My main criticisms are twofold. First, the "start-up" phase can feel relatively short. Once you establish a successful strategy, you can quickly become a dominant player in the market, which might diminish the feeling of building a company from scratch. Second, and relatedly, once you've played enough to master the game's intricacies, achieving a monopoly becomes almost inevitable. In the later stages, the lack of competition can lead to a sense of stagnation, where there are few meaningful challenges left to overcome.

Overall, Computer Tycoon is a fantastic strategy game that offers a deep and rewarding experience. If you're a fan of business simulations or the history of computing, I highly recommend giving this game a try. Just be aware that the endgame might leave you wanting more.

I really enjoyed this game! Purchased this after reading a negative review, to which the dev replied honestly which I respected. A game like this will never be perfect for anyone- is there too much detail for a beginner that doesn't know much about computers, maybe. Is there not enough detail for those that have built dozens of computers, probably. But what I found was that after a couple of initial playthroughs, you can get to grips with the mechanics of the game and have a great time. I learned a lot about the history of computers and how things developed

Some things could do with changing, like the economy system not being rigid (I only played the historical map so not sure if others change). Also maybe not calling the lowest economic tier countries 'poverty' lol.

Personal highlight is having DDR6 RAM in 2004 because I did a very research heavy playthrough.

Ultimately look forward to doing more runs with increased difficulty :)
