If you like spreadsheets and cars, this is it.
Very detailed game with a dedicated developer.
great game, although it might not be for most people due to its complexity
This is possibly the most in depth and polished industry simulator ever created. The attention to detail is incredible and shows how passionate this developer is. The stock market aspect of the game alone is miles ahead of anything else and this is a game about making cars so that should tell you how much work and attention to detail this developer put into this game. I haven't been this addicted to a game in years.
Probably what the Automation campaign will never be
Great game, but can crash out of nowhere, leaving you feeling sad and empty :,(
This is a nice fun game. It takes a few hours of repeated attempts and tutorials to start successfully in the game. But its worth the effort and its quite detailed card company simulation
That's an easy yes!
This game is pretty great if you're into management games. It's really got everything you could want in an auto-company-management-sim. I'm absolutely this games core demographic, and I've bounced off it's peers covering this industry, but this one keeps me coming back. I can tell this game was a labor of love. And yes, the menu system is retro, but navigating is simple and becomes second nature very quickly. For me the menus even a bit nostalgic.
What's more amazing is Eric. I've peeked around on reddit and the forums and he is incredibly transparent and active in communicating with the community around his game and tycoon/sim games in general. For a game he started making over a decade ago he's still very active and supporting it today while working on his next project. 10/10. This guy deserves your money, and the game is absolutely worth every penny.
Best car tycoon game on the market
Really fun. I wish there were more games like this.
One of the best spreadsheet simulators in the game industry, played it for quite a lot of hours now and I'm still enjoying every single bit of it. Looking forward for further improvements to this already good game, I'll highly recommend it.
Like my dreadful job, this game is all about sheets, but for some reason I like it.
Great Car Company Sim!
A lot of good things have already been said here, so I won't repeat all of them. Is the game flashy? No. Will the graphics knock your socks off? No. Will you spend hours designing vehicles, getting the sliders just right, marketing it to a target audience, and strategically plan your dominance as a global car company (including taking over your competition!)? YES!
Here's the great thing about Gear City: you can put in as much micromanaging as you want or as little as you want. In general, I like to make more strategic decisions, so I let the AI run most of the company, and with Gear City, you can do that! Once I got the company established, and I was doing decently well, I just turned on "Auto Sell" and "Auto Produce" and "Auto Market". Voi la! I put some effort into designing the vehicles I want (and opening dealerships), and the AI takes care of the rest.
In fact, the AI is so good at it that I went from wobbling under somewhat profitable to all of a sudden making a boat load of cash! The AI knows how to optimize selling and producing, let me tell you! It wasn't very long into the game that I began making over $1 billion per month! Later in the game, I was regularly making $3+ billion per month, and I won an award saying I had finally made it to the same level as international car companies like Toyota, GM, et al.
It's challenging and fun. If you like sim-games, you'll like this one . . . . if you have a (at least somewhat) passion for cars.
This is a very small developer run by (mostly) one guy: Eric B. in the U.S. Show some support for indies like this and buy the game!
It's very addictive. Min-maxing the different sliders and attempting to optimize different vehicles for different demographics is incredible fun.

My only complaints would be that some of the automation controls aren't automated enough. Factory output declines over time and you occasionally need to refurbish them. That's great, but after pressing the "refurbish" button, production isn't optimized and you have to go factory by factory, production line by production line, pressing a single button each time to recalculate car output. Simple things like this should have more automation. Also, as your company grows, lists of parts and engines become gargantuan-ly long. I wish there was some feature to group different parts & vehicles (into folders) so that it reduces the clutter.
It can be hard at times like when you are starting off or when trying to grow bigger. I found that redoing your whole line car every 7 to 10 years is what needed to grow. it fun i often had to stop and put my business thinking cap on and treat like a real business. Never skimp on the research teams or you will make poor items,
quite good
One of the few games out there that actually does economics well. Spreadsheet simulator 10/10
No graphically great, however this is a fantastic game once you understand it. played it for 40 hours in 4 days now and im hooked. if you like economics this is for you
I've had this game for a long time and seem to dabble at playing it occasionally. Its not because I don't like the game, as I find this to be one of the better management simulations available. The truth is that it is a bit of what I'd call a spreadsheet game where there isn't a lot of dynamic movement or action. However, for those who enjoy a game that forces them to think and plan, this is a well thought out and detailed simulation that puts you in charge of a automobile manufacturing company.
For me that makes it a perfect game to while away an hour or two, even when I know a full game takes many more.
Good game!
If your willing to learn the game it's deep and addictive! enjoy this one.
This game is the perfect example of "just because you can do something, does not mean you should." What I mean by this is that the dev(s) that put this game together should never have published this game with this UI. Sure, the UI is clean, and reasonably well organized, and I realize this game was made on a budget. Unfortunately the UI gets in the way of what could be a really good car building/selling game. Innumerable clicks, lack of scaling, and the inexplicable omission of hotkeys really kills this game, since so much of the gameplay loop is tweaking various production and price settings. This UI would have been bad in the 90s. I just can't overstate this.
