The Pirin Saga
The concept of the game was inspired and based on texts and drawings of a young talented Swiss writer, Sebastiano B. Brocchi who wrote a new elegant fantasy saga called "Pirin." great story
One huge flaw immediately jumps to your face: illegibility,
Texts use a strenuous typeface, some kind of Blackletter.
Texts are displayed directly over background, without speech balloons or banderoles.
Often with minimal contrast.
And it's a very talkative title.
A second huge flaw soon jumps to your leg and starts humping it: emptiness.
Long, long, long, long, long rooms full of nothing to walk through.
Stacked on top of each other, along with lifeless transitional staircases.
That's not a point n' click any more.
That's a bloody walking simulator.
The naive, almost tacky art is attractive; it titillates my curiosity.
The interface is classically good, with all the features I would expect.
Too bad the game got crippled twice.
This is a good point and click game, like an old quests from Daedalic. I remember got it long ago on some deep sale and compare to time what i spend playing this was a steal. Here you will get good story, nice music and pretty pictures, some puzzles and a lot of reading, but you don't need combine items in inventory or try all combinations on hot spots as items will use automaticly in correct place when you find them, thats why maybe you can finish this game without walkthrough. I can give it 8/10 stars, so if you like this genre you should try Eselmir and the five magical gifts.
Only reason somebody would like this is if they really dig this story/world or the book that it is based on. This is basically amateurish fan fiction. I couldn't really get into it. Also I did not detect a hint of humor in this game, which if fairly common in point and click adventures.
So the book author did the story, dialogues and drawings for this game. Not my Cup of tea. there are literally hundreds of better point and click adventure games to play.
Solid story and lore, the art is quite beautiful and detailed, and the characters/peoples kept my attention. It wasn't as smooth a point and click game as I like, movement was some annoying when you kept having to revisit places for clues, but any game that goes 5 hours without my stopping on my 1st play through? I really like it overall. Great genre game, glad I found it.
I really enjoyed Eselmir and the Five Magical Gifts. A lovingly crafted adventure in every detail—from its rich characters and world to the hand-painted aesthetic. A nice point-and-click surprise hidden in the Steam Store.
It took me a while to like the game. In the beginning i found it slow starting (long walks and long conversations). But gradually i was caught by the story and I liked it more and more.It is a great game and fantastic story. .. Definitively worth while of playing. Only remark i have is tht end chapter 4 and chapter 5 people should save their game regularly as I had a few game crashes when clicking by accident outside the game window or sometimes a click whilst something else was busy. Also the stealth game at end of chapter 4 is tricky ... never could finish this section after numerous tries. I guess it depends on power/quickness of the hardware/CPU/GPU. I bypassed this using the debug as explained in the community. Besides that .. it is fantastic game and one of the better ones i played.
The game is very beautiful, with an equally beautiful story and artistry to match.

Οχι, δέν πρόκειται γιά πραγματικό "Fatal Error" αλλά γιά τήν "προσπάθεια τού Μάγου νά σέ κοροιδέψει (!!!)", σύμφωνα μέ τά λεγόμενα τού κατασκευαστή... Τό "αστειάκι" θά μπορούσε νά λειτουργήσει (έστω...) άν χρειαζόταν ένα μόνο κλίκ γιά νά επανέρθει τό παιχνίδι στή φυσιολογική του ροή, αλλά στήν προκειμένη περίπτωση χρειάζονται καμιά δεκαριά!

• Κουραστικό καί βαρετό.

Resolution is too small. Graphics are mildly interesting but could use some major improvement. Too much walking. Too much "I think wordiness in prose makes a fantasy world good". In-game text is hard to read. I didn't even make it that far into the game before I had to quit.
Just brilliant...playing this game was like reading a great book....yes theres a lot of reading but its interesting and you get drawn into the game...you can skip thru the dialogues but whats the point of playing this gorgeous game if you do that...the puzzles are not too hard but not easy either...the art work is straight out of a fantasy book and lovely to look at...it was one of those games..for me anyway that i didnt want to end..28 hours it took to complete the game and i loved every minute of it
This one was great. Loved the world the story was set in, loved the story, loved the characters, loved the background lore. A 90/100 effort.

A few text formatting issues here and there
While I respect the other reviewers here who love this game, I cannot agree with them. This game is more a walking simulator than anything else, and the graphics look pretty tacky on my screen, even using the same resolution the dev webpage lists (1024x768) . Movement is unbelievably slow and clunky, to the point where I found myself spending 90% of my time double clicking to walk/run the protagonist about the unnecessarily large and empty locales, looking for the scattered interactive objects. An adventure game should not be this arduous to play! I really wanted to be able to like this game, because I like supporting independent devs and the lore is supposedly fantastic. I just can't do it. I'll be returning this now.
Tried to like it but didn't manage it... Respect for the guy behind it but it demands too much reading (in-game but also from the novel) and it's too slow paced (too many things to examine without a specific direction given or maybe I just didn't find it because I have no idea about the in-world history). Also the graphics didn't manage to capture me like others said. They're nicely drawn for a single picture maybe, but not as a moving background. There's also no angle, no camera position... Don't know, I tried hard but didn't manage to like it. I have finished around 40 point-and-click games so far (and I didn't like all of them) and this is just the 3rd that I quit without finishing it (the others being Dracula Origin and The Moment of Silence in case it matters)
This is a beautiful game with a really deep story that pulls you in. While I could not find the books in English, I believe it is based on a series of books/stories, so it is quite obvious when playing that the story is written by someone who knows how to do it well.
The graphics are handdrawn and quite vibrant, the characters (Eselmir particularly) are complex with their own backgrounds, and their relationships with each other. Like the good old golden adventure games, it has a good playtime - it took me 15 hours, and that's considering I read fast and sometimes skip a text quick.
Like other commentors mentioned, it is a heavy reading based game - however, you need to read not just for lore and depth of story but actually to remember how to solve certain puzzles or answer some questions. The puzzles are not crazy difficult, like some classic adventures, but still good enough to tickle your brains.
One thing I was disappointed with was that Eselmir didn't have full voice - maybe just in the English version? It would have been even a more memorable game with the main character's voice (remember Monkey Island series).
Still, what affected me most in this game to encourage me to write this comment is the depth of the story. I probably learned more life lessons and wisdom from this 15 hour game than would take years otherwise.
Should definitely be in your library if you value stories!
PS: In the duel in chapter 5, don't despair!
Eselmir and the five magical gifts has a rich story, many ineresting characters, and some beautiful scenes.
I loved playing the game it was reminiscent of playing some of my favorite classic Point & Click Aventure games (like Kings Quest or Legend of Kyrandia). My biggest issues with the game are more in it's dynamics and interface. There's very few actual things you can click on. When you right click to cycle through available actions it will only show things you can actually do. You basically can't try to do anything or look at anything they don't want you to look at. In most other Point and Click Adventure games I've played you can cycle through all your actions and try all of them even if they don't give any useful results. I feel like that's a better system as this game feels more like you are just clicking through their story as opposed to making actual discoveries and decisions. It's also difficult to explore the terrains as some places give you arrows to let you know ou can walk in that direction and some don't. If it's an area that doesn't give an arrow it's not always obvious that you are able to walk to other areas.
The other issue (also related to the dynamics and interface) is the invenory/item system. You can't try and use an item wherever you want. If you can use it you can only right click through the available interactive spots on the screen and if you are supposed to use that item it will show up. This takes out a lot of the fun of thinking about how you can solve problems. If you complete all the dialogues than anytime you need to use an inventory item it will just show up in the available actions. This isn't preferable since it again takes away that sense of problem solving and discovery. I believe there were only one or two things which you actually had to look at the item to interact with it in some way.
I really wish that there was more freedom to explore the map and world on your own but instead you are largely locked into very specific places and don't have the option to go anywhere except where it is directing you. Currently there's very little available to help you figure out where things you've missed are such as all the toads, journal pages, or invisible beings. For example somewhere I missed at least one invisisble being but I can't figure out where. I interacted with everyting I could multiple times and tried going to every available location I could find... where was the missed being? No, clue, and once you near the end of the game you have to give back your lens and can't go back out of Lothriel (sp?) so you can't go back and collect anything you've missed.
The other thing I disliked is the dialogue. The stories are interesting but, many of the dialogues are TOO LONG. More than one conversation took a good 15-20 minutes just to finish a single dialogue with a single character. This might be okay if i happens once for a major story plot but it's like every other character has a very long story to get through. Eventually, as much as I wanted to read story elements and nderstand all the little things I just gave up and started fast clicking though all the dialogues. In this game it doesn't really matter because you will be led to wherever you have to go and won't need to worry about remembering anything since dialogue options are automatic and items are auomatically chosen for you when right clicking through available actions if you can use them. The detailed story was fun at first but eventually felt more burdensome and unecessary to move through the game. Also some of the dialogue is a little strange. I think it was written in Italian first than translated to English which most of the time in the game is fine but someimes reads in odd ways or it feels like the dialogue doesn't match with the character so much.
I also really didn't care for he fighting system. It's a bar with a green area in the middle and red on the sides with a whie icon that moves from side to side, you need to hit the button when the icon is in the green in order o be sucessful. It's used too man times and is very annoying. I would have preferred some type of combat interface like you would find in something Quest for Glory or any other RPG with combat components. This made the combat portions tedious and boring.
Overall, I still enjoyed the game quite a bit and would probably play it again in the future but I don't know if it has as much replay value as old Sierra Point & Clicks have for me. I think it has potential if they ever decide to make some type of series out of the game assuming they work on more succint dialogue and an updated interface that's easier to work with.
A fabulous game. There is quite a bit of reading to do, but the story is so interesting and engaging that that is not a problem. The puzzles are all doable, but the best (for me) was that you could slow the fights down to a reasonable level.
Towards the end of the game, I found I was going more and more slowly, as I did not want to finsh it!
Definitely recommended for all adventure game lovers.
I loved playing this game. Very in-depth story that draws you in, and a truly epic adventure! A little going back and forth, a couple of little bugs (I recommend saving using different slots so you can go back and reload - it doesn't happen very often at all, though, and no disrespect to the devs, they seem active in the forums, and they've done a great job). I loved reading every book, hearing every story, solving every puzzle and riddle (I love games that make me take notes!) ... A well-spent 20 hours — you may take less if you don't read through everything, but I recommend taking it all in, as everything you read and every story you hear is used or at least comes up later.
Wow, this game is awesome! At first I was a bit sceptical cause its look is something one has to get used to, it feels rushed and sketchy, and I didn't expect much. But I was so wrong! :D The story is fantastic and really well presented, and it must have been so much effort to realise a game of this scale, there's more to be seen and done and read than in some AAAs :D I'm totally flashed and can't recommend it enough!
edit: I've just seen that others encountered several technical issues. For me the experience was 90% satisfying, only towards the end there occured some crashes. As with all games the rule is: SAVE OFTEN! ;-)
This game needs more reviews! I thought this game was excellent and incredibly well worth the game price and my time.
I wasn't familiar with the books this was based on, so it was completely new to me. I fell in love with this intricately fleshed out world and its wide variety of characters and landscapes in which your character travels. It is just beautiful. This game is for story lovers and people who like reading. The stories and characters intersect and matter as you progress. The story was well told and uplifting. I was left after about 25 hours of gameplay feeling thoughtful and happy and wishing for another chapter in this lovely world.
The game has a nice feature in that only items useful to a task will show up to be used when you r-click on an action item or person. This eliminates the "I'm lost and so I willl throw every item in my inventory, no matter how ridiculous, at the problem."
Manual saves!
There are a few timed click maneuvers for the battle scenes. Click so the target hits in the green zone kind of thing. When it gets fast, I figured out when to click after a few tries (click before it gets to green so by the time the click registers you hit!). But if you miss in battle, your beloved goddess will come and allow you to try again or to skip. If you hate these games, know that all you need to do is get through your one-time training and then the skip option becomes available for future battles that lie ahead.
Speaking of training, the only "glitch" I had was trying to exit my training before completing it. I got locked up and had to hard close and re-enter the game. Know that when you start training, you're just going to have to do the three rounds in one go. If I can do it with my lackluster dex skills, almost anyone can!
I highly recommend this game and hope adventure lovers will give this game a chance.
Eselmir and the Five Magical Gifts is splendid. Its story telling and world building are really beyond the quality and quanity you might expect. The art style is ripped straight out of a story book and is very fun to look at.
On top of all that, the puzzles are fun and a decent challange. Very rarely did I have to consult a walk through.
While there are some technical issues, the devs seem to be answering questions and help with troubleshooting here on steam. So I am very willing to forgive some of the bugs. They helped me within 24 hours with an issue, and I was super thankful!
Overall, this is a great game for people who love lore and story telling. The only warning I might give, beyond technical issues, is this game involves a lot of reading. Both dialogue text and in game lore books. So if your not very much into reading you might not like this game much. If you like reading, or don't mind it, I think you'll find a lot to love here.
